High-resolution DAC

If you haven't yet discovered high-resolution music, the nova220SE is bound to be an eye-opening starting point. The built-in ESS Sabre digital-to-analog converter is well-regarded in the audiophile community for its ability to reveal all the details in digital high-res files — up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. The DAC even upsamples CD-quality files as well as MP3s, to make them sound their absolute best. ESS Technology's Hyperstream Modulator eliminates the timing errors associated with digital conversion, known as jitter, for clean, accurate playback of all your digital music.

Peachtree Audio Nova 220SE integrated amplifier

The nova220SE's glowing vaccuum tube buffer adds warmth to digital music.

Add a little warmth

Nothing warms the hearts of true-blue audiophiles like a glowing vacuum tube. And nothing is better at warming up digital music than the nova220SE's triode tube buffer. When you engage it, you'll see it light up blue through the front panel window and hear how it softens the edges of digital tunes for a more analog sound. If the tube sound doesn't do it for you, switch it off and run the amp in pure solid state mode.

Innovative amplifier design

The nova220SE offers chest-thumping power by combining discrete Class A preamps with a Class D power amplifier. Peachtree borrowed the preamp design from their flagship Grand Series. It delivers a balanced signal to the power amp to ensure purity and accuracy. The power amp is highly efficient, eliminating the need for noisy fans or bulky heat sinks. Once you hear how effortlessly the nova220SE drives your speakers, you'll understand why Peachtree Audio has quickly become a respected audio innovator.

Best in show

Most amplifiers are pretty utilitarian when it comes to their appearance. That's a nice way of saying they aren't much to look at. But the nova220SE is simply gorgeous. From the engraving on the aluminum front panel to the high-gloss wood cabinet, this amp oozes luxury and style. The glowing blue lights of the power and source indicators, as well as the engaged tube buffer, are sure to bring a smile to anyone looking for more aesthetic value than most audio gear can deliver.

Peachtree Audio nova220SE

Stan from Columbia, MO on 9/13/2017

This integrated amp is wonderful. It has pushed PSB Stratus gold I and Dynaudio Excited X36 and now Paradigm prestige 85f. I've been very pleased with build quality. Harmonics are there no matter what the class A and AB snobs might say. I've heard through hours of critical listening. Peachtree will stay in my garden!

Pros: Streaming versatility. Power without heat dissipation. Slick looks. Build quality.

Cons: No I pod dock.

Not worth it

Fantastic amp

Daniel from Oklahoma City, OK on 3/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the Peachtree D5 speakers a little over a year ago, and have been using a NAD C510 all-digital preamp and a hand-me-down Anthem 100wch power amplifier. I was always good with the sound, but never really overjoyed. This past week, I replaced the electronics with a Peachtree nova220SE integrated amp, and could not be happier. This unit gives me the flexibility I need, including an analog input for vinyl when I feel like it. The D5 speakers have never sounded so open and warm - what a great match the engineers at Peachtree have made. There is enough power to make loud volume possible without ever pushing the amp, but the sound a low levels is equally inviting.

Pros: power to spare all the inputs I need attractive design

Cons: Cant think of any yet - just had this a few days.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

peachtree nova 220se has proven perfect vehicle to deliver music through all the formats i use - vinyl - cd - digital - 220se resides in my listening room - i use alternative vehicles to deliver music throughout my home - an educated listener but not an audio aficionado i surprisingly moved thru set up to listen with confidence and ease- inputs outputs are clearly designated the controls obvious - slight panic came when looking for a switch to activate the tube as it in done only thru the remote control - i do not like choices when listening however it is very obvious what i prefer to listen to thru the tube as opposed to without it - i do not expect too much from my digital collection it exists for archive and entertainment throughout the house the 220se has it all close to sit down listen worthy and some definitely sit down worthy albeit a volume adjust now and then - cd collection which i play throughout home as well in the listening room sounds wonderful - vinyl dedicated to listening room only wonderfully what i wished for -

Pros: consistently produces spacial sound field at low - medium - high volume delivers exquisite sound from phonograph - cd player - hard drive tube option takes edge off recordings coming in too bright

Cons: wish for a coax output

Unbelieveable!! Buy three and use Crutchfield

Reginamp from New York on 8/31/2015

I had to write a review this morning listening. I have Energy A5+2 speakers, which are very nice, and I have NEVER heard them sound this good. I am in the process of copying all my CDs to a Mac Mini and running JRiver as a player and it is just incredible. The only thing there is the music. We are both long-time listeners and lovers of music (audiophiles, but not obsessed), live outside of NYC and listen to a lot of live music. This is a truly beautiful amp. True, true to and not at all cold or edgy. I have and entire new music collection! And Crutchfield has been wonderful. We had to return our first one because it quit (they said this is the first Peachtree return they ever had) anyhow, seamless process. Thanks Crutchfield and enjoy your new amp reader ;)

Super Clean Sound

J.S. from Goshen, New York on 2/8/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Super clean amp. Really simple to use. It's everything you want in one tight package. You can put the darn thing anywhere. It's class d amp doesn't produce heat. The tube is real nice at softening the sound to a degree. I have it hooked up to a multitude of source device's from my tv, bluray/cd player. Even bought peahtree's high quality Bluetooth receiver. It's DAC is very high quality. And it is rediculously powerful. You really won't be able to turn it up more than a quarter of the way with out the high tones making your ears bleed. Which its one of my gripes about this thing. I have full range speakers that can go deep. If I turn it up to get more Bass ,the high tones are to much. Really could use some tone controls here. Musically, This amp excedes expectation when listening to jazz and anything that clarity would make a difference. Let me tell you can hear every word on my television . But with different genres of music and different source devices that all sound different and you could benefit from tone control adjustments. The other thing I really do not like is that it only comes in black with the gray face plate which makes it not so attractive.

Pros: Superpowerful, does not produce heat or require much space, super simple to operate, excellent DAC that makes even Bluetooth sound good with a multitude of Jack's in the back .

Cons: No tone control and not very attractive

nova220SE rules supreme

David from Indianapolis, IN on 12/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a pair of KEF LS50's and read that they were notoriously demanding for power. Those are already expensive so ran through both a Nova 65SE and 125SE in my attempt to save money. The speakers lacked punch with the 65SE, very unimpressive sounding and a complete waste of those speakers. The 125SE had enough power, but I thought I'd try out the 220SE after reading reviews. It's never a bad thing having excess capability, as well as something that you won't outgrow. This product doesn't disappoint. The extreme amount of power allows the LS50's to sound perfect, and I'm not even remotely pushing the Amp. I still haven't exceeded half its volume which already fills the entire house like a concert. This has everything I wanted in a high-end Amp such as the raw power, subwoofer out, and HQ DAC to hook directly to my PC. Moving onto looks, this is where it really separates from the lower models. It has a gorgeous aluminum faceplate with engraved logo. Even the remote had an aluminum plate, I did not expect that but a very nice touch. It really gives it a classy sophisticated look. Even if this had the same power rating, I'd have likely spent an extra hundred just for the more refined look. For an extra 500, if you can afford it I'd highly encourage going with the 220SE. I think this would do wonders on a Floorstanding Tower speaker with integrated subs for Stereo playback.

Pros: Powerful, stunning look, capability

Cons: Price; warranty length

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Anyone thinking of moving from a multi channel pre-pro system or a better two channel system should consider this unit. Its DAC makes streaming music a dream and for your TV, sound is great--though I think you need to have two good speakers. Set up is a breeze and it works with my harmony remote!

Pros: lots of power for speakers option for a subwoofer easy set up and great sound from DAC two month return policy from crutch field took my worries away great service from C.

Cons: little expensive needs to have a phono out set up

Peachtree Audio nova220SE

Mike from New York on 8/13/2014

I purchased this integrated amplifier/DAC in May 2014 to use with a Logitech Touch (squeezebox streamer) and PSB Imagine T2 Tower. I like it a lot, but right now it's on its way back to Peachtree to fix a failed pot in the volume control that was making noise. So apparently some design or quality issues, not at all what you'd expect at this price point. And the return via FedEx GROUND is a nice touch Peachtree.

Pros: Great sound. Warranty covers parts failing.

Cons: Parts fail.

Integrated Amplifier

Overview: The Peachtree Audio Nova 220SE combines a high-performance, high-resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a class-A preamplifier with built-in tube buffer, a high-quality headphone amplifier, and a strong yet flexible, power amplifier that is capable of driving virtually any loudspeaker with ease and authority. The Nova 220SE offers digital and analog inputs, including a USB input for your computer.

220W x 2Ch Amplifier: Peachtree amplifiers are rated "all channels driven from 20Hz to 20kHz (full bandwidth of human hearing) to provide real world power ratings. Featuring a rock-solid amplifier that delivers up to 220 watts per channel (8Ω) or 350 watts per channel (4Ω), the Nova 220SE has power to spare. The amp in the Nova 2200SE is twice as energy efficient as traditional amplifier technologies, leaving no need for expensive heatsinks or noisy fans that add unnecessary bulk and cost. Whether you enjoy your music at low volumes or want to feel every note, the Nova 220SE provides the power and headroom needed to appreciate your music's full dynamic range.

24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The Nova 200SE has a built-in 24-bit/192kHz upsampling DAC. Using ESS Technology's patented Hyperstream Modulator, the DAC in the Nova 220SE is capable of 100% jitter rejection for maximum fidelity. Any digital source, from an old CD player to a computer to a streamer such as Sonos or AppleTV, can be instantly upgraded. Even compressed audio files sound shockingly good when run through the Peachtree's DAC, so you can maximize the fun of streaming music from Pandora or concerts on YouTube. Lossless "studio master" 24-bit files can be played back with sound quality above and beyond standard CD-Audio.

Class A Preamp: The Nova 220SE's discrete Class A preamp reproduces clearer micro-detail, decay and texture, which makes listening to your favorite music even more immersive. Because every signal is routed through the preamp it is a critical part of the signal path. The Nova 220SE benefits from trickle down technology by using the discrete Class A preamp stage found in Peachtree's top-of-the-line Grand Series. The preamp delivers a balanced signal to the internal amplifier for the highest quality possible.

Tube Buffer: The Nova 220SE includes Peachtree's signature triode tube buffer to soften bright recordings and create a more natural sound. The tube buffer can be engaged or bypassed on the fly with a simple button press on the included remote control, allowing you to listen in either pure solid state or tube mode. A Russian 6N1P military tube (6922 variant) specifically chosen for its consistent reliability is installed and will provide years (average 10,000 hours) of enjoyment. The tube is user replaceable and replacements are readily available.

Headphone Amp: More than just a headphone jack, the Nova 220SE includes a dedicated headphone amp to deliver 10x more power than what you get out of your smartphone or computer. Delivering over 1,000mW of power, ultra low distortion, and low output impedance - your headphones will sound better than ever.

Aluminum Front-Panel w/ Tube Window: The front panel is crafted from thick 6mm brushed aluminum with engraved logos and input labels so they'll never wear off. A glass window gives a view of the triode tube, which is illuminated by a blue LED when engaged.

Audio Connections

24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB Input: The Nova 220SE has a 24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB (type-B) input to connect your computer (Windows or Mac). The unit's USB type-B connection will take digital audio content from your computer and send it to the internal DAC of the Nova 220SE via I2S configuration. Using the Nova 220SE, you can take a pure digital audio signal from iTunes, Windows Media, Front Row, or any other music management system on your computer before it goes through a sound card. Just hook up a 2.0 USB cable between your computer and the Nova 220SE's USB type-B port; no sound card is required. The Nova 220SE can decode MP3, MP44, WMA, FLAC, AIFF, WAV, and Apple lossless codecs; with resolutions of 16-bit/44.1kHz, 16-bit/48kHz, 24-bit/88kHz, 24-bit/96kHz, 24-bit/176kHz, and 24-bit/192kHz.

Note: USB Driver CD-ROM included for Windows. Not additional USB driver needed for Mac.

Analog Input: The Nova 220SE if fitted with a single stereo analog RCA input for connecting an external audio source, such as your CD player or Tape deck.

Digital Audio Inputs: The Nova 220SE is equipped with two optical (24-bit/96kHz) and one coaxial (24-bit/192kHz) digital inputs for connecting external digital audio sources such as your Blu-ray/ DVD player or cable/satellite box.

Pre-Out: The stereo RCA preamp-outputs allow you to use an external amplifier with the Nova 220SE; they also provide connections for a powered subwoofer.

Speaker Terminals: The unit's binding-post speaker terminals are clearly marked red-positive and black-negative for proper polarity connections. The amplifier's binding-post speaker terminals will accommodate bare wire (up to 10AWG), banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, and spade-connectors.

Headphone Output: The Peachtree Audio Nova 220SE utilizes a front-panel, 1/4" headphone input which mutes the speakers when headphones are plugged in.

Remote Control

IR Remote: The Nova 220SE comes supplied with an IR remote control which is easy to use. The remote control offers the same functions as the Nova 220's front-panel controls, plus adds a mute button. The remote is powered by two "AAA" batteries (not supplied). The remote control IR sensor is located in the center of the Nova 220SE's front-panel.

12V Trigger: The integrated amplifier's 12-volt trigger output (3.5mm) enables power on/off control of another component with a 12V trigger input (3.5mm).

USB Charging Port: There is a rear-panel USB (type-A) charging port to connect and charge (5V/0.5A) your USB-enabled smartphone or tablet. This USB port does not offer audio playback.
