Innovative design, innovative sound

There's nothing ordinary about the Definitive Technology Cube. This portable Bluetooth speaker system's attractive, minimalist design suits just about any décor. And its compact shape lets it fit easily into the corner of a countertop or bookshelf. Best of all, it treats you to sound that's surprisingly rich and involving for a speaker so compact.

Definitive Technology Cube

The Cube features a total of six built-in speakers in a “Tri-Polar” configuration. The left and right side each feature a pair of 1-1/4" mid/high-frequency drivers, set at a 90-degree angle to one another to create a wide soundfield and increase the sense of stereo separation. An upward-firing 1-1/4" driver and 5-1/4" woofer add a sense of height and reinforce the bass frequencies. All the drivers together — supported by built-in amplifiers and advanced digital processing — deliver full, spacious stereo sound that most compact powered speakers can only dream of.

High-quality Bluetooth audio

The Cube uses aptX® audio coding, an advanced form of Bluetooth that allows higher-fidelity sound with compatible Bluetooth devices. It's backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth, too. So you can wirelessly stream music from just about any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other portable device and still enjoy outstanding sound.

Play it anywhere indoors or out

You can power the Cube with regular household AC, but this speaker also has a built-in lithium ion battery. When you want to take the party outside or into another room, just unplug the power cord and carry the Cube with you. The system can deliver up to 8 hours of high-fidelity sound, fully charged.

Product Highlights:

  • Bluetooth aptX® technology for high-fidelity streaming with compatible devices
  • wireless range: 33 feet
  • six drivers in a Tri-Polar array — left and right pairs of angled 1-1/4" drivers, plus one upward-firing 1-1/4" and 5-1/4" woofer

  • 7-1/2"W x 7-3/4"H x 7-1/2"D

Impressive bass and sound quality

Joeyig from San Jose CA on 6/11/2015

Battery life is amazing, the bass can make the house shake, this is my first truly high end audio system and I'm blown away. Battery lasts over 8 hours for me. Great for parties, can charge phone with battery and it's super easy to set up. To get the most out of it put it in a corner of the room it is great

Pros: Battery Life sound quality material quality bass nfc pair volume

Cons: Size, but not complaining

This speaker was easy to set up and sounds amazing. Best sound for the price! I've tried other portable units and returned them because the sound was not great. I read all the reviews on this one and decided to go for it. It's not as portable as many but the sound is deep and rich and really the best for the size and price.

Pros: sound, style, easy to set up

Cons: Portability

Sounds great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Definitive Technology products are always good, and this one is no exception. I have a surround sound system in one room from them, a pair of speakers in another room and now one from them I can take with me. Set up is easy to connect with a bluetooth product, it's pretty easy to move around (there's a "handle" but I like to use the handle and still put a hand on the bottom to secure it better as when you hold it with just the handle it is at about a 45 degree angle), and it sounds really good. I haven't tested how long the battery lasts yet so that's why I didn't rate the battery life.

Pros: Sounds great, looks cool.

Cons: Just a little bulky to move around but worth it for the sound quality. Hardly a con...

Excellent Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been quite a fan of music my whole life.. I had searched quite some time for a portable Bluetooth speaker for outside activities and by my pool.. I'm very particular of my sound so I veiwed and demo'd several different setups.. It came down to two different set-ups.. UE Boom and Bowers and Wilkins.. One ran around $200 and the other upwards of $800.. This Is quite the jump in price.. I listen to all types of music.. R&B, hip-hop, dub-step, rock, metal, classical, folk and bluegrass.. The UE couldn't keep up with my selections to my standards.. I clearly wasn't going to pay the $800 for BW so I needed a alternative.. In walked the Definative Technolegy Cube.. Handles everything you throw at it.. The low end with the 5 inch Woofer is so dynamic that it keeps up with all types of music Flawlessly.. Which intern requires less volume which means more battery life.. And all for around $250. I am pleased every day with my purchase..

Pros: Amazing sound, satisfactory low end bass, easy connect ability and long battery life.. Price! You won't find better Bluetooth speaker for the Money..

Cons: Haven't yet come upon any cons.. I'm quite smitten with this Cube..

Was looking for a portable Bluetooth speaker system in the house for exercise on treadmill, bedroom listening and this unit is great. Nice full sound, easy link with iPhone music catalog. Very pleased.

Pros: Great multidirectional sound. Full high and low range.

Cons: Mildly heavy but very well built.

Impressive sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is bigger than I was expecting but the base output is also more than I expected. The higher tones could use more clarity but I shouldn't expect hifi sound from a portable blootooth. Overall I am very pleased with the performance.

Pros: AptX

Cons: Size as for ease of portability.

Pros: It's great....

Cons: None.

Def Cubism

Poppajee from Arkansas on 1/16/2015

A stlyish looking and simple device to use. Has a clean full sound all the way up to full volume - which is not to say you'd be able to have a house party with it. Perfect for bedroom or home office size space. A little bit bigger sound can be had for the same money with the Def Tech Inclines, but they're a stationary item and do not have blue tooth. Both beg for a remote but are good deals at the under 3c price point. All said the Cube is highly recommendable one piece portable blue tooth speaker system.

Nice BIG sound from a tiny cube!

Paw Paw from Orange, Tx on 12/26/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cube is smaller than I expected, but the sound is very full. While you won't experience great stereo separation, cube placement can help extend channel separation and bolster bass response. With volume all the way up, there was very little audible distortion, but that max volume fell just a little short of being enough (still very loud though). Bluetooth pairing was easy with multiple devices, and sound quality was very good. Portability around the house was easy, battery life was very good (I usually have the cube plugged in though), and sound quality doesn't seem impaired when on battery. Overall, easily the best Bluetooth speaker of a dozen that I have sampled. Fit and finish were very good as well (attractive silver and black).

Pros: Very nice sound quality, Bluetooth very convenient, and easy to move around the house.

Cons: While still very loud, the maximum volume still left a little to be desired to rock out. Portable, but with limits (you aren't going to fly with this cube).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you want a room filling sound, this is the portable speaker for you. Tone and clarity are far above expectations, wireless range is impressive and the technology is user friendly. It's a little heavy/bulky to make it conveniently portable, but it fits in a backpack easily and sounds better than many budget home systems.

Pros: Battery life is impressive. Low tone reproduction is solid. Simple to connect and use. High volume with minimal (almost imperceptible) distortion.

Cons: Large (for a portable device).

Pros: Compact, excellent sound quality.

Cons: None so far

Very Impressive

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Impressive speaker. Definitive has done it again. Easy pairing with any Bluetooth device. The kicker was the stereo mini-jack input which allows for use of my high def music player with the speaker. It can get loud with no noticeable distortion. Excellent bass - adjustments may be necessary from the input device if it seems too bottom heavy.

Pros: Sound quality, portability, ease of use.

Cons: None noted so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After deciding to purchase a bluetooth speaker I made the trip to the local bestbuy to audition speakers available. Having read many of the reviews online, I was leaning towards the klipsch model. But after hearing this unit I was not impressed by its sound quality compared to a dr. dre model of the same price. Also both these speakers do not have built in battery charging capability. Being familiar with Definitive Tech products I went out on a limb and bought the D-cube sight unheard. THIS THING ROCKS! It has a lithium ion battery onboard with its own charger, apt-x technology and plays about 7 hours on one charge. All this as the same price as the other models that don't have the charging capability. Also this unit has NFC capability making connection very easy. A great choice for any situation that requires good crisp, clear, loud music with superior base.

Pros: great sound small package

Cons: high price but you get what you pay for

Small Package, Big Sound

MANIKENZ from NYC on 4/22/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm incredibly impressed with both Def Tech as a company and now the Cube. After going into a local store and listening to the Cube I was immediately struck by the clarity and quality of sound the little box was able to produce. It was much cleaner than the competing small audio boxes around it. I could not have predicted how much better it would sound at home. In the store I felt it lacked some low end, but that the clarity and separation made up for it. Once set up in the house I shocked at quality of the subs. From the other room there is no way one would guess that the Cube is the size of a toaster. I really can't say enough about the size to audio ratio, it's simply stunning. Lastly, the portability is also an incredible feature. To be able to unplug the box and carry it into other rooms (and particularly onto my roof) and not worry about the battery dying any time soon is killer. Also the fact that there are no disposable batteries to deal with is awesome. In summary, if you're in the market for a small, portable, and high quality speaker system, I have no reservations in recommending the Cube.

Pros: Size Sound Quality Portability Rechargeable battery Easy Set Up

Cons: High price point, but you get what you pay for in this case.

Cube Design: Definitive Technology's Cube tabletop Bluetooth loudspeaker makes a strong visual impression with its bold, minimalist compact shape that easily tucks into the corner of your kitchen counter, bookshelf, or credenza.

Tri-Polar Speaker Technology: Combining built-in amplifiers, digital signal processing, bass-reflex enclosure, and speaker components in a "Tri-Polar" configuration, the Cube is able to produce impressive bass and spacious imaging. Tri-polar Technology employs speakers on two sides and on the top of the enclosure in a "Tri-Polar" configuration. Two left and right 1.25" mid/high-frequency speakers, at a 90° angle to each other on opposite sides of the cabinet, create a much wider soundstage with a greater sense of stereo separation. The top mounted drivers include a 5.25" midbass woofer and a 1.25" mid/high-frequency driver that fire upward. These speakers add powerful bass and a sense of image height.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming w/ AptX: The Definitive Technology Cube supports Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, laptop/computer, etc.. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device.  The Cube employs AptX audio coding technology for lossless, audiophile-quality streaming with compatible AptX-compatible phones. You can even control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause) from the Cube speaker.Advanced music navigation and song/artist information will still be handled by your Bluetooth-enabled device.

Simple Pairing: The Cube pairs wirelessly and effortlessly with Bluetooth enabled devices with a single press of a button. Bluetooth-enabled devices (like Android) that have Near Field Communication (NFC) are even easier to pair with; simply touch the device to the Cube and they're paired. Once paired, the Cube will automatically re-connect to your device when within range (up to 33').

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Definitive Technology Cube.

Auxiliary Input: The Cube Bluetooth speaker is also fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input to connect virtually any non-Bluetooth portable audio device with a headphone output.

USB Charging Port: The Definitive Technology Cube features a USB (type-A) port used to charge your smartphone or other USB-enabled portable audio device. You can choose to power your device using either AC or battery power. However, charging with battery power will reduce battery life. If batteries are already weak, the USB connection will not charge your device. This USB port does not support audio playback.

Rechargeable Battery + AC Power: AC household current powers the Cube, but it also has a built-in rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. While plugged in to AC power, the Cube charges the internal Li-ion power pack (takes approximately 3 hours to acquire a full charge). When you want to take the wireless speaker to another room of your house, simply unplug the power cord and carry it anywhere you want full-fidelity sound for up to 8 hours of battery-powered listening (at moderate listening levels).

Carry Handle: A handy notch on the back of the Cube makes it easy to pick up and move.
