Overview: The Definitive Technology Mythos Four tower
loudspeaker combines the elegant look of a curved, hand-polished aircraft-grade
aluminum enclosure with state-of-the-art engineering technology that delivers
high-quality sound with a wide dynamic soundstage, pinpoint imaging, and superb
realism. Packed into these thin towers are proprietary damping technologies that
ensure total rigidity, D'Appolito Driver Arrays in narrow polystone baffles
(voice-matched with whole Mythos line for easy mix-and-match system building),
Definitive's exclusive planar technology pressure driven bass radiators to
enhance low frequency response, and sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley Crossover
Networks to more perfectly blend the drivers into a sonically seamless audio
Speaker Array: The Definitive Technology Mythos Four tower
loudspeaker contains a D'Appolito array consisting of two high-definition 4-1/2
inch midrange drivers surrounding a 1-inch dome tweeter housed in a sealed
enclosure. The Mythos Four also features two 4-1/2 inch high-definition bass
drivers that are pressure-coupled to two 4-1/2 inch planar low-bass radiators
for a total bass radiating surface greater than that of a single 8 inch
conventional woofer. The result is exceptional bass extension and power. The
loudspeakers active drivers feature die cast Aluminum baskets, mono-polymer
cones, and finite element analysis optimized magnet structures for clear low
distortion life-like sound. The tower loudspeaker utilizes a 1-inch pure
aluminum dome tweeter with an acoustically contoured faceplate for excellent
high frequency extension, detail, and smoothness. The bass roll-off of the
Mythos Four is smooth and controlled, allowing it to seamlessly blend with a
powered subwoofer, such as Definitive's SuperCubes, for audiophile-grade home
Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Network: The sophisticated
Linkwitz-Riley crossover network design used in the Mythos Four tower
loudspeakers equalize the drivers for linear phase and frequency response
to more perfectly blend the drivers into a sonically seamless audio environment.
Break-In Period: The Mythos Four will sound good right out
of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of
playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period
allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open
midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Extruded Aluminum Enclosure: The Mythos Four enclosure is
hand-polished gloss-black aircraft-grade extruded aluminum with proprietary
damping technologies that ensure total rigidity. All components are mounted on a
resonance-free PolyStone baffle. These construction technologies along with
state-of-the-art drivers and tweeter serve to deliver high-quality sound with a
wide soundstage, pinpoint imaging, high dynamic impact, and superb realism.
Binding Posts: The Mythos Four is equipped with a pair of
gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Tempered-Glass Base: The Mythos Four tower loudspeakers feature a tempered glass base that include carpet spikes
and rubber feet for stability on any type of floor surface.
Applications: The Definitive Technology Mythos Four can be used as a
front main or rear/side surround speaker.
- Front: When used as front left and right speakers, the Mythos
tower loudspeakers can be placed right next to your flat-panel TV with
excellent results or may be separated by a distance greater the width of the
TV. The speakers may be angled in toward the listening position or left
parallel with each other.
- Surround: When used as rear or side surround speaker, the Mythos
tower loudspeakers may be located on the side or behind the listeners. When
used on the sides, take care never to locate the speakers forward of the
listeners. If the speakers are placed on the rear wall, it is suggested that
they be positioned fairly wide apart if possible.
