Add the excitement of deep, rumbling bass to your home theater with Definitive's ProSub 800. A front-mounted 8" woofer works together with a pressure-coupled low bass radiator on the bottom of the enclosure to produce hard-hitting bass. The combined output of this pair is comparable to that of a traditional 10" woofer, but with greater speed, musicality, and control. The woofer is encased in an incredibly rigid basket engineered to hold the massive magnet structure and large voice coil in absolute alignment. And the non-resonant cabinet uses multiple internal bracings to make sure that you hear clean bass without sound-muddying vibrations.
A 300-watt amplifier and advanced crossover ensure accurate bass response. The continuously variable low-pass crossover allows you to precisely control the frequencies that your subwoofer handles. And the built-in high-pass crossover is a nice touch: it prevents your main speakers from overloading with low frequencies if you hook them up through the subwoofer's speaker-level outputs. A side volume control makes adjustments fast and easy, so you can seamlessly blend the ProSub 800 in with the rest of your system.

Love this sub makes my 2.6 magma pans sound out of this world thanks definitive technology and thanks crutchfields
Replaced a Definitive Pro 600 sub and was surprised at the bass improvement. I'm using this sub in a small viewing area so it's perfect for the room.
I was pretty shocked at how small this sub was on arrival. My Crutchfield rep recommended it so I didn't even really bother to investigate other than seeing that it was rated well, as I don't know a lot about subwoofers. I'm using it with a Marantz SR6011, 2 ELAC Uni-Fi UF5 floor speakers, an ELAC center speaker and some ceiling speakers. On initial setup, I was very disappointed. I ran a single sub cable to the unit and cranked everything up. There was some bass but nothing that made me go 'wow'. On the back of the sub there were several more inputs so I looked up their manual online and read through it. Turns out, running the front ELAC speakers as a pass-through on the sub did the trick. Now the sub handles all the super low frequencies and I can dial in the lows, but it does not suck the bass from the ELAC Uni-F5s like it seemed to do when running as a single input. I turned it on for my friend the other day and they mentioned there wasn't much low end...I walked over to the ProSub, turned the volume up a bit and the floor starting rocking. They were amazed. The room I'm using it in is a self contained media room, 13 x 24. I could probably use a 'bit' more bass, but I don't really need it if I'm being honest.
Pros: surprisingly bassy, can dial in just the right amount of bass, single input or pass-through mode
Cons: probably not best sub for music
I bought his to go with my main stereo speakers. I have some Klipsch towers that already produce really goos sound. So I was after a reasonably priced unit that would actually make a difference. This unit does round out the sound, I may have gotten the 1000 unit to really add more punch, but this unit performs well.
Pros: Good performance for the price.
Bought this unit to replace a 10 inch Infinity that died at 2.5 years. Excellent build quality. This thing really pounds for its size! Much smaller cabinet then the PS410 i had. Actually a 8 inch speaker, don't let that fool you. clean crisp and booms after a Calibrating session with receiver. Marantz 1403. Deep water horizon explosions really boom! Volume on the side is a nice touch. plays clean with Music also. Only issue I would note is it is not great for a wood floor, it will actually hop across the floor when you have the volume up for a Movie! May hate to return for that, but I like to play movies loud once and a while. Other wise excellent unit.
Pros: Excellent build quality!
Cons: Pounds so much it will hop arcoss a wood floor. Rug not an issue
Sounds great, love that the sound comes out in two different ways. Only thing I don't like is that the sound control on the left becuase its not numbered
Pros: Sounds amazing
Cons: Control on left is hard to read
I purchased this from Crutchfield without having had a chance to audition it - and it's an unqualified success. Plenty of punch, impact on a mostly-movies home theater set up (Marantz receiver, Orb Audio speakers, OPPO 4K disc player, XBOX One and Apple & Roku steamers). It is replacing a Hsu Research sub, big sucker with 14hz response and plenty of power. So right off, it is no Hsu. But with careful placement, volume control and spending some time tuning it after Audyssey software had its chance, this is a perfectly functional performer. It really is musical and has startling impact for its size, and placement helped a ton with extension. My wife is happier with me for the cabinet/form factor/color, and I feel like I'm not missing anything - and I play *loud*, due to hearing problems from my time in the service. I doubt anyone who purchases this will have any complaints if they are mindful of its lack of individual adjustability (only volume here, folks) and its placement in their listening area. I am considering purchasing a second one to replace the rather moderate sub that came with the speakers I use (7.2 set up, not all "Dolby UP" sound yet). Anyone taking the time to read this will do well to get this as their primary, or fourth, subwoofer.
Pros: Sound; Form Factor; Color (anything that lightens up so much black in modern systems)
Cons: MAYBE the lack of controls other than volume
I am using this sub for a computer/receiver setup in a 120 square foot room. It has incredible bass for its small size, and sounds especially nice when situated in a corner. The 300 watt amplifier is more than enough, and I have set the gain at a little less than halfway to keep from overpowering the sound from my Klipsch Pro Media bookshelf speakers. The sub was easy to wire, and has a high powered pass-through, which I needed because my receiver is pretty old and doesn't have an LFE connection. The computer is high end workstation located in another room, and uses a Delta 192 Audiophile primary sound card and lossless file rates for music, so I'm used to pretty good sound quality, all things considered; the ProSub 800 inline with the Klipsch bookshelf speakers hasn't negatively impacted the sound quality in any way. The 20Hz low end of this sub is incredible.
Pros: small size, high power, high level speaker connectors for old receivers, excellent low range response, wonderful sound quality, great price
Cons: one of the little rubber pads likes to fall off when moved
Great no complaints, easy set up,it is just what my 7.2 sound system needed
Great product and excellent customer service.
Bought this subwoofer to go along with my new denon AVR. The only thing i can say about the ProSub 800 was WOW!... .....tHIS sub is small enough to hide and/or great to show off in your living room. . The main purpose of this sub is to give you deep bass that you expect from a top notch company.. IT DOES... I have a polk sub and don't get me wrong but this out perform the polk.... Both music and movies i can really hear the difference. I have a medium size living room. I purchase this sub at the ''scratch & dent'' price and believe me you won't regret it. I'm real pleased with my purchase and after or nearly 10 yrs of being a customer, you won't go wrong. Thank you Mr. Crutchfield......
Just received DT ProSub 800. At first when I unpacked the unit I thought it might be too small for my family room (18 x 20 w/ cathedral ceiling). My mistake. Though smaller than my previous sub it fills the room wonderfully. Nice match w/ my PSB Image 5T floor standing speakers. Usual excellent Crutchfield service - quick delivery and excellent customer service. Great unit, I highly recommend.
Pros: Excellent bass clarity - deep and rich
Excellent sound, deep bass, great addition to my home theatre system!
Very pleased with the quality and performance of this sub. Great output for a relatively small footprint.
Pros: Size Quality Performance
Just got this sub. Am using it just for music and I am blown away. Unit hooked up to a Denon power amp through monster cable and y adaptor. Once volume set on sub all controlled by amp. Perfectly in phase with pair of alpha 50 infinity tower speakers. I noticed immediate changes in sound deeper bass and drum clearer mids and highs crisp vocals. You can pound the bass or not and you get tight awesome bottom in all your music from Bach to rock live recording or studio there is no wrong. Music lovers buy this sub.
Pros: All killer no filler
Cons: None whatsoever
BETTER FOR MOVIES THAN MUSIC
This is a great sub. It adds a perfect amount of bass for my system. I have Polk MC80s and a Denon AVR receiver. I only use it for music. I have an open concept home and I can fee the bass throughout the house. I have the sub in my living room and the bass makes the glasses in my cabinet clink together. It's fantastic. I love the white color, too. The first one I ordered had a rattle, but Crutchfield sent me a new one with no issue. Crutchfield is the best, and I'd recommend this product.
Pros: Color Quality Volume control
Did not know what we were missing until I got this sub. Very easy to hook up and major difference in sound. A must have.
Quality product in an aesthetically pleasing form, plenty of bass output for our needs that can be easily adjusted to provide more or less using the dial on the side.
I bought this and paired it with the Definitive Technology Mythos SSA 42 sound bar. For purposes of how this sounds, the room it is in is open concept into the kitchen and has two story ceilings. Even with the large room, the ProSub 800 produced really great rumblings, especially for example at the beginning of Star Wars: The Force Awakens during the first battle scene and when the space ship is landing. This to me is its best functionality. For music, it is less good. The bass is more punchy and less sustained. For example, I was hoping the bass notes would be sharp and sustained but was disappointed when listening to Sail by AWOLNATION - they felt like they kind of disappeared. Overall, great sub.
This sub does exactly what I need for my surround sound in my living room. I have it paired with infinity in ceiling speakers and they sound great together. I love that this speaker came in white and blends in nicely with my home.
We like it! Haven't had it for very long, and haven't really blasted it yet, but for day to day we like the subtle bottom that it adds!!
Question: How did they get away with not including a phase selector switch somewhere on the unit? That's a must for any sub.
Pros: Seems like a decent sub but not without phase selection
Cons: No Phase Selector Switch
The product came defective or there are no parts and service center in Puerto Rico!
This 8" sub is superior to the 10" sub it replaced. In fact it's superior to the last two 10" subs I've owned, both of which were top name brands. Better lows and much cleaner. Unbelievable in spite of it's size. Love it!!!
Pros: Small size, awesome sound
Great product ... performed better than expected. Who would have thought an 8 inch woofer would sound so good.
Love this sub woofer. Nice thumping bass when volume is up & just the right sound when it's down.
Pros: Nice thumping bass when volume is up & just the right sound when it's down. Good size.
Excellent sound and very easy hook up.
Needed a subwoofer with size constraint based on location in living room and with sufficient power. This SW does the job nicely. Really like the volume control on the upper side of the unit.
Pros: Good power and balance
Cons: None to describe.
It worked, it produced bass, looks great however it's only for carpet applications or if you're placing it on a throw rug. It bounced all over my floors unfortunately. I gave it 4 stars because it's compact, sounds great but you can't remove the feet and use it in any other application.
Excellent subwoofer! It has a small footprint, looks good and most importantly sounds excellent. Tight, well-controlled and ample bass!
Pros: great sound small footprint attractive styling
An outstanding subwoofer for the price. My family room and kitchen are together and this unit is able to fill both rooms with deep base sound. Asked my Crutchfield consultant (Cooper) if one was enough and he said yes. He was right. Easy access to volume control on the side of the unit. One wire connection to the amp/receiver. Very pleased. Got one for my basement too. Definitely recommend.
Pros: Provides plenty of bass response in larger areas.
I listen to a lot of 5.1 music (DVD-Audio) and high resolution music files (PCM 24/96) in a dedicated but small listening room (~14'x12'). This DT pro sub 800 is perfect, with a deep, rich tone and chest-vibrating pressure (when I need chest-vibrating pressure). At my normal listening levels, is has a great low frequency response and higher volumes, there is zero distortion. Everything sounds natural - the bass is significant but not overpowering to the rest of the speakers (mix of Definitive Technology and Proficient Audio). I wouldn't put this sub in a "great room" but for smaller rooms, it's marvelous.
Pros: Great sound in a small footprint; color options; volume control on the side.
Cons: Trial and error to find the right cross-over frequency settings.
Just got this sub installed but the performance so far has been excellent. Very balanced bass and great presence in the overall home theatre, and is a bit smaller in size due the 8" size of the woofer speaker. White finish is also great for when the home decorator (wife) is involved in the decision.
Pros: Great sound, very nice visual design and finish.
Cons: None so far.
So far so good...only in place for about a month. Have not really tested its capabilities to fullest yet but has added a very smooth sounding low end to my other infinity speakers in 5.1 system. Seems to round out the bottom very nicely and major improvement over last sub which was small, old and just shot . More compact than I expected but that is a plus for me. As usual Crutchfield Sales and Service terrific...
Pros: Smooth clean low end Compact Crutchfield sales and service Convenient volume control
Cons: None so far
This sub is an excellent value, comparing favorably to other subs that I own from Velodyne, PSB, etc., that cost much more. I bought it for my wife's desktop system to complement the Def Tech Incline speakers (which are awesome, btw, but are discontinued ;-( I love how this sub has the sub volume control within easy reach so that the volume can be adjusted. The only downside is that the user manual wasn't very thorough, but hey, it's a subwoofer, how much instruction do you need?
Pros: Great value for the money! Nice sound. Excellent for a desktop system. The sub volume control is easy to reach.
Cons: The only downside is that the user manual wasn't very well done, but hey, it's a subwoofer, how much instruction do you need?
Overall good for the price
This sub is powerful, easy to set up, fits in a smalllish space. I chose it for the low frequencies ( down to 20 hz) because I wanted the health benefits from the frequency of 20 hz to come up from the wood floors. Health benefits from specific frequencies can be perused online under Rife frequencies.
Pros: Power, frequency range, a moderate size.
Great Product! Plug & Play! Crutchfield service is top notch.
Pros: Easy to set up. My Denon A/V receiver picked it up right away.
Nice sub, looks slick. Great low end to compliment the B&W bookshelf speakers.
Pros: The bass! And the looks / design and easy connection.
Cons: Wants to "walk" on smooth surfaces playing music with lots o bass.
I purchased this sub to go along with two Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800's. The sub provides plenty of power and looks great in white. Paired with the speakers if gives a nice full sound at a great price.
Pros: Design, Price, Sound
My 10+ year old Cerwin Vega sub finally died. I talked to Cooper and he suggested the ProSub800. I use this system mostly for watching TV & movies. The room is ~28' x 20' with 10' ceilings, and mostly carpeted. As the sub is almost hidden at the side of a sofa, I ordered from the "scratch & dent" section and the package arrived on time. I was a bit concerned, as the box looked like it had been towed behind the delivery truck. But - when I opened the box, the packaging was all intact, and the sub itself was scratch-free and dent-free. Even though I had measured everything prior to purchasing, I was surprised how small the unit was compared to my old one, and concerned that the unit would not give me the "ooomph" I was used to. But - it took only a few minutes of listening to convince me otherwise. Great depth that fills the room without any distortion or harshness.
Pros: Sounds great - nice depth; Compact; Looks good; Volume control on the side easy to adjust.
Cons: None so far.
Although I have a highly regarded brand of electostatic floor standing speakers, I felt at times like I wasn't getting enough base so, with some Crutchfield consulting, I purchased the Def Tech Pro Sub 800. Strictly for music. I have accomplished my goal and now my listening is more enjoyable with the underlying deep base of this sub. I am not an audiophile so I'll dispense with the numbers. It just sounds good! At above 25% volume I can now play without Tone Enhancement to more fully realize the immense clarity of the mid and upper ranges of my speakers and still have very adequate base.
Pros: Everything I expected.
I previously have had Klipsch subs yet every 3 years or so I have to replace them because the amp or crossover fails. When my Klipsch KSW 10 failed, I purchased this Definitive Technology Sub and love it. The bass comes thorough very well without being "muddy".
Pros: Clean Bass that comes through very balanced at all volume levels!
very nice unit. My living room is about 24 x 36 with 10 ft ceilings. it fills the room. Takes a little adjustment, because I have hard wood floors, this thing will actually walk across the room it's hitting so hard.
These subs are incredible. DEEP DEEP pure bass
Pros: Low end rumbles
I was a little worried this sub would be too small being only 8 inches. The Crutchfield adviser I spoke too assured me "it has some thump". I am very pleased with my decision to trust his advice. It is a great addition to my theater room sound system. Highly Recommended!
Pros: Excellent and very clean base.
I'm planning on building a 5.1 home theater system and so far I think this sub will be suitable for my current apartment, next A/V receiver.
Pros: So far it meets my power punch level and budget. So far so good.
Cons: Nothing to report yet.
My tastes generally run toward clean crisp sound rather than a ton of bass but for movies and even for certain types of music this little guy can't be beat. Very impressed with the depth it adds to films in a compact size and price.
Pros: Plenty of power and clarity. It will fill a good size room with no problem.
Cons: I bought a scratch and dent and the information on the back plate is upside down. No issue but it is funny that they actually manufactured it that way.
Just purchased this Sub to replace a Polk PSW111 which I would rate 1 star for reliability as the amp kept breaking. I guess you get what you pay for. Anyway, so far so good with the DA Prosub 800. Nice smooth bass. Fills the room which is about 15' x 20'. In fact the bass is so powerful that I had to move it off my bookshelf as it was causing the objects on the other shelves to vibrate and rattle. This was at only a 40% setting. The down firing driver requires some placement consideration since the bass can get transmitted through the floor. Overall very happy with the purchase so far. I took off one star because it does not have a phase shifter swith.
I exchanged a Polk PSW-111 for this and I could not be happier, soooooo worth the extra money. You can see by the spec that the frequency range is a lot lower than the Polk and it is incredibly evident. As someone who listens to a lot of electronic music with deep bass lines this was important to me and totally changed the listening experience. I also listen to jazz, funk, and rock and it also handles those genres incredibly well delivering tight bass that can be heard and felt. For every genre of music the bass is very full, tight, and pleasing. Bass lines are punchy and articulate even at lower volumes. The mid to low volume performance of this sub is another place it shines. It produces clear bass and does not have to be turned way up to do so. I should also mention that my listening area is fairly small at about 20 x 15. That being said I feel as though it would be ample even for a space quite a bit larger unless you are trying to shake your foundation/blow your windows out. I'm sure there are nicer subs but they also probably cost quite a bit more. As far as bang for your buck this sub comes highly recommended, worth every penny.
Pros: Full range. Tight articulate bass even at lower volumes.
Cons: For the price, none.
This is only my second subwoofer. It doesn't have any shortcomings that I am aware of. It fits (barely) inside my media console (wife didn't want to see it). It sounds great. It is capable of being felt and can penetrate sound-proofed walls at high volumes but we generally don't listen to it that loud. No distortion. Does a great job complimenting our sound bar (Definitive XTR-SSA3).
Pros: Size, sounds great
Excellent bass and sound for size. great instructions, easy setup.
Pros: Great size, quality construction. Excellent sound/lows for size
Cons: none so far
I inherited a pair of KEF Q70 speakers, they have remarkable clarity. Unfortunately, by themselves they lacked commanding bottom. I listened to several subs from Polk, KEF and Definitive. The ProSub 800 was perfect. I am able to adjust the crossover point and volume and it sounds great. I had zero issues, and it has been a blast tweaking the two settings. I originally intended to set it up with the pre-amp out into the sub. In the end, it sounds better by taking the amplified speaker output into the sub, then back out to the speakers. There is still some low end coming from the KEF's, but the sub-woofer is producing 80% of the boom. I'm really happy with my new Sub, and recommend it highly.
Pros: Great clean boom, plenty of adjust ability. Nice price point.
Cons: none so far.
Excellent, clean bass that you can feel. I was a little skeptic about the SUB800's ability to produce usable deep bass, but I am most impressed. No, it does not produce the thundering bass that would make action films pop in even the largest of media rooms. It does however match up very well with my Polk Audio RCi in-walls in my family room: a 23' L X 18' W X 21' H room. Sits almost invisibly behind a side near a corner to the right of the FR speaker and produces tight, clean base. I have yet to over drive it. My main concern was to keep the modern, sleek, mid-century decor in my home, and this was a very nice compromise between size, aesthetic, and performance.
Pros: Appearance, value, sound, auto on / standby function, build quality
Cons: A little pricey
My initial goal was to find something small enough that could hide away in a cabinet (wife's wish), but still have enough oomph to be close to or better than the Klipsch Synergy 10" it was replacing. I tried Velodyne first (Impact 10) and wasn't impressed, it was just as boomy as the Synergy. I tried a Polk second (PSW111) and it lacked the power and depth I was looking for. I have always been impressed with my Definitive Tech center channel and after a lot of review I decided to give the ProSub 800 a try and I have been very, very impressed with the results. Sound is much more tight and precise than the Klipsch and somehow this 8" sub gets just as low as the 10" Synergy does. I have been equally impressed with Crutchfield, I ordered the ProSub 800 under the Scrath and Dent and when the first one showed up I had a feeling I was in for trouble. Upon opening the box it looked like someone threw a party on top of the sub, foot print on the speaker grill, pieces rattling around on the inside... after plugging it in there was no sound. Crutchfield replaced it very quickly and the second that showed up was in outstanding condition and works like a charm.
Pros: Sound is superb, I thought the SuperCube 2000 was going to be what I needed, but this is absolutely perfect for my needs.
Cons: The white fabric speaker cover can get dirty easy... but it's white what do you expect just wash your hands and you'll be fine.
This sub replaced a DCM 10" sub that is about 11 years old. The old one works well but this ProSub 800 is killer. Its range is wider and when placed in a corner it really shines. If your hesitant to get an 8" sub as I was DONT BE. This sub rivals any 10" sub I have herd. I still have to break this sub in but it sounds incredible out of the box as long as you set it up properly. I have it paired with the promonitor 2000 center and 1000 surrounds up front. My rears are smaller speakers. I also purchased this as a scratch and dent. Hardly! The original box only had a couple minor scratches on it. If you want to pay extra money for a box in perfect order the go for it but the scratch and dent deal is the best. The sub inside the box is in perfect condition. Just get this sub and be happy.
Pros: Simply Great!
Highly recommended by the Crutchfield representative. Worth every penny. I really like it, a lot.
Pros: When we first hooked it up, had the volume turned up and thought that we were having an earthquake. Puts out a lot of sound for an eight inch driver. Nice small foot print.
Bought this sub to replace 12" Polk that was taking up too much space. Very good sound; however, inadequate replacement for 12" Polk. For an 8" sub it does produce very good bass. I returned it and kept the Polk.
Pros: Good bass; good shape (footprint).
Cons: Bounces on hardwood floor; price; does not produce like a 12" sub.
I bought this sub to add to the two channel setup of Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 speakers. This is a great little subwoofer that matches the ProMoniter speakers. The sub adds the right amount of bass to the little bookshelf speakers. If you are looking to add some high quality bass to a small speaker system, these will do it for you.
Pros: Small, good bass quality for the size of the subwoofer.
Cons: I little expensive, but worth it.
I am impressed with the amount of bass from this small sub. Fills the room when listening at moderate volumes. Gets boomy pretty quickly at louder volumes.
Pros: Relatively small, sounds great at moderate volumes
Cons: Gets boomy pretty fast in movies at loud volumes
I bought 2 Mythos Six and a Seven along w/ a ProSub 800 for center, side & sub speakers for a new Samsung plasma and although they're still new to me, I really like the sound of the outer speakers. The Sub is a little bit "all there or not" but the Mythos' are all great...look and sound terrific.
Pros: Nice look, compact
Cons: For TV, the bass is sometimes very loud and boomy and on other shows/movies, its virtually silent. I've played with settings and EQ but can't seem to get it right...they are brand new & just set, so I've not found my preferences yet...I'm sure it will work out eventually...
Almost everything we listen to demands a good bass in order to give it substance. Without the ground bass line in music it seems anemic. Every action movie has a great deal of work for a good bass speaker. Imagine an explosion without the bass to emphasize the depth of its sound. Yet the bass in music should be relatively unobtrusive so we can hear the melodic line of that music. The Def Tech does just that. The bass line is smooth and punchy and if you listen for it exclusively you will definitely hear it. But if you listen to the melodic line you know it is there but it doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of the melody. I've had a couple of bass speakers, both powered and not, and this is definitely the best I've heard. With a lower level of 20 hertz it is somewhat below the ability of the ear to pick up so it is more felt than heard, which in some movies is what you want. I'm definitely sold on this bass and would recommend it to anyone who wants a smooth performer.
Pros: smooth yet punchy when needed
Cons: Can't think of anything bad about this speaker
Easy setup. Fills the room with strong bass sound from small unit - with volume set at 50%. Located in a large combo Family and Kitchen Room. Adds viewing enjoyment to movies and TV shows in 5.1 Dolby.
Excellent choice. Setup was very quick and the sound is incredible.
Pros: Sound, Look
My Morel sub (two 9" woofers at 125watts) was a very good sub. Retailed for double the price of this pro 800. One of the woofers bit the dust. I thought I'd need another $800+ sub. The pro 800 was suggested for my some what smaller room. Turned on the avengers and set the sub a little below half, I was blown away. It's crisp and accurate, it's got the right amount of boom and punch but delivers it so smoothly, like bass butter. I knew def tech could make a sub but I honestly didn't expect this quality from an entry level sub at this price point. When I buy a house with a dedicated theater room I will probably buy another and run two 800s or a super cube. Given the 3 year warranty and quality this has been the best sub i have bought in this price range. I think an upgrade could be had at $600 but unles you have the space to fill you won't need to spend more or look else where. This sub is outstanding, period. Running a denon 1913 receiver.
Pros: Amazing sound for a very small foot print. A great value in the world of subs. Def tech does not disappoint.
Cons: Would like to see 18hz for this price. Will distort at very high levels, you'd pay $1000 to get past this in any sub.
I had a free Polk Audio subwoofer that was the victim of a power surge. I was very satisfied with the level of output it had, and is sounded nice in my living room with my Polk Surroundbar 50. I mostly used it for video games and home theater. I replaced it with this product, and the difference is dramatic. The room now fills with low-end sound, but it never feels intrusive. There are sounds in my video games that I never new existed. It has been a revelation. While I am sad about losing my first sub, this is just magnificent
Pros: Great room filling sound, never obtrusive
Cons: Slightly larger than some
Definitive has always delevered a excellant prodcut and this sub is a perfect example of their quility.
Pros: Easy to place due to its compact size, yet powerfull preformance.
great sub for the price
Pros: compact size,good features
Phenomenal sub. Compact and light. This makes a tremendous addition to my soundbar installation. The convenient gain knob makes tuning to your taste easy.
Pros: Size, cost, clean bass
Cons: None so far.
first off i had an infinity ps210 for 3 years. worked fine for about a year then nothing but problems with the amp. crutchfield worked with me the whole time to make it right. 2 new amps, replaced the whole unit but still the same problems. was going to replace it with the ps212 but mathew at crutchfield suggested the pro sub 800. glad he did. it looked small when i got it out of the box, but the bass coming out of the 8in sub sounds awesome. thanks again mathew and everyone at crutchfield for years of great service and support.
I've had this sub for about 2 years -- initially was in living room paired with Def Tech SM350s and CLR2002 center -- very good for music, tight bass, blended well with the other DefTechs -- but bottomed out occasionally with movie sound effects, and had some difficulty filling the room evenly. Replaced it with the ProSub1000 and moved it to the bedroom -- is excellent in a small room where typically not high volumes. The stated frequency response is a bit of a push, doesn't go that low.
Upon delivery of the sub, I was shocked and concerned with the size of the box it came in. I was thinking, how can a unit this small give the results I am looking for? (It replaced a Yamaha unit that was twice the size.) Installation and set up was a breeze using the Audyssey mike that came with my Onkyo SR 706 home theatre receiver. The size of our viewing area is 15' X 20'. The results are that this unit provides ample, distortion-free bass that changed the whole tv viewing or music experience. It is quite responsive to movie segments that require wall thumping sound. But on the other hand, it is not so overpowering that you cannot hear the finer nuances in the soundtrack. Bottom line is that you will not be disappointed in this unit.
I owned an Infinity PS210 subwoofer and initially I believed it was sufficient but after watching some of the Transformers movie, I knew I was not getting the lows that were possible with a subwoofer. I did a lot of research and figured what I was missing was something that went down to 20 hz (the Infinity is rated at 27 hz). I purchased the Prosub 800 (rated at 20 Hz) and another sub ($600). The $600 sub had a nicer sound; smoother with music and if you turned it up, it could literally shake the walls during explosive movie scenes. It was the "better" performing sub, but I decided to keep the Prosub 800 because 1) it's less expensive 2) the Prosub was right there sonically. It didn't sound as good as the other, but it did sound very good. Music was tight and movies scenes came alive (the walls didn't shake, but that's probably a good thing). It had none of the boominess of the Infinity PS210 3) the Prosub is tiny. Rather than have a small water heater like the $600 sub in my living room), I have the Prosub totally out of sight. Great when you have the wife factor. Given how good the Prosub 800 sounds, I imagine the 1000 and Supercubes only improve on the movie and music listening experience.

Passive Radiator Design: The ProSub 800 features a 300-watt (RMS) amplifier driving a high-excursion 8-inch front-mounted direct-radiating woofer that is pressure-coupled to an 8-inch low-bass passive radiator on the bottom of the enclosure. The net radiating area of the ProSub 800 is 27% greater than a single 10 inch woofer but with better speed, pitch definition, and control.
PowerField Technology Amplifier: The ProSub 800 incorporates Definitive's proprietary PowerField technology, by which the amplifier is specifically engineered in conjunction with the driver for optimum load matching and power transfer characteristics. The Definitive ProSub 800 powered subwoofer incorporates a unique, patented, digitally-coupled infinite power source amplifier with a high-current direct coupled power supply and discrete MOSFET output devices to ensure perfect high-definition resolution and reproduction of the most dynamic program material and demanding sub-bass transients. Construction quality is absolutely state-of-the-art, with only the highest quality components used including mil-spec glass epoxy circuit boards and precision resistors and capacitors for many years of faultless superior performance.
High-Definition Subwoofer: The powerful, high-definition 8" polymer subwoofer driver is specifically engineered by Definitive Technology to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest subsonic frequencies (20-150Hz), with superior transient response. The special ultra-stiff, low-mass cone (for super-fast transient response) is joined to a specially formulated surround and long-throw voice coil and spider. The ultra-rigid basket is engineered to hold the woofer's massive magnet structure and large voice coil in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coil is made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for increased power handling.
Non-Resonant Cabinet: The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important energy from the system. The Definitive Technology ProSub 800 powered subwoofer utilizes a monocoque cabinet, which has been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of pure sonic reproduction. Monocoque means that the cabinet is of a unitized construction where all panels are permanently joined together into one solid structure. The cabinet walls themselves are high-density medite fused together by space-age polymer adhesives. The front and rear baffles are extra thick and the cabinet, itself, incorporates multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity.
Protection Circuits: The Definitive Technology ProSub 800 features two protection circuits that ensure that the subwoofer can never be overdriven.
Integrated/Adjustable Feet: The ProSub 800 features four integrated feet with rubber tips so you can place it securely and safely on your home's floor. Each foot's height is adjustable to help you place the powered sub on an uneven surface.
Placement: The Definitive Technology powered subwoofer has been designed to operate at frequencies generally below 150 Hz. Because low-frequency information in this range essentially is non-directional, your subwoofer can be located anywhere in your listening room that is most convenient. Also the continuously variable low-pass filter operate at a very fast roll-off, ensuring great performance wherever you place the subwoofer. There are, however, some general rules that you should bear in mind when locating the powered sub.
Subwoofer Controls: A complete array of controls allows the ProSub 800 to be perfectly integrated with any stereo or multi-channel audio system, and tuned for optimum performance in any room.
Volume Control: The ProSub 800 features a convenient front-side-mounted volume control that makes adjustments fast and easy. This precision level control allows you to perfectly adjust the volume of the subwoofer to match your system and room as well as to fulfill your own personal sonic preferences.
Variable Low-Pass Crossover: The Definitive Technology ProSub 800 powered subwoofer has a continuously adjustable low-pass filter control which allows you to choose a roll-off of from 40 to 150 Hz for the high end of the subwoofer. This unique "dual stage" roll-off (24dB/oct) is extremely steep which ensures perfect blending with your main speakers as well as eliminating unwanted midrange from the subwoofer. This is especially important because it gives you much greater flexibility in placing your subwoofer in your room without being able to hear where it is located.
Auto Turn-On Circuit: The powered subwoofer has a special power circuit which automatically turns the powered subwoofer on when a signal is fed to the loudspeaker and turns it off when there is no signal present. There is also a manual on-off switch on the rear-panel.
LED Indicator: The red LED on the back panel of the powered subwoofer will light up when a signal is sensed and the amplifier turns on. It will automatically turn off with the powered subwoofer, a little while after the signal is discontinued.
Line-Level & Speaker-Level Connections: The Definitive Technology ProSub 800 powered subwoofer has a complete range of inputs and outputs to allow easy and effective hookup to any system. The ProSub 800 has a separate direct-in LFE low-level input. Speaker level inputs are provided in case you do not have a subwoofer output.
LFE Input: The Definitive Technology powered subwoofer has a low-level direct LFE input for Dolby Digital soundtracks, which bypasses the crossover network. If you are connecting the subwoofer to an AV receiver without a dedicated subwoofer or LFE preamp output, but does features a stereo RCA output, you will need to use a stereo RCA cable along with an RCA Y-adapter.
Note: When using the LFE input with a receiver that has an internal x-over you should set the x-over on the sub to 150Hz.
Speaker Level In: The Speaker Level inputs (binding posts) are designed to be used on receivers or amplifiers that do not incorporate any RCA type subwoofer outputs. If your receiver is equipped with an RCA type subwoofer outputs, these speaker level inputs should not be utilized.
Speaker Level Output:The ProSub 800 also features speaker level outputs (binding posts), so you can connect your front (main speakers) through the powered subwoofer. The ProSub 800 has a built-in speaker level high-pass crossover preset at 80 Hz (6dB/oct).

Small, high-performance sound.[ PATRICK Jun 04, 2017 ]
DT is not good about publishing performance specs but these were on sale with 60 day return option and shipping included so I rolled the dice because of Crutchfield's customer service.[ Frank May 27, 2017 ]
I thought this subwoofer was at the optimal price vs. performance point for my needs. Sure, there are better units at a much higher price (outside of my budget), but it would be of no use without a complete replacement of the rest of my system.[ Larry May 03, 2017 ]

I purchased a complete Definitive Technology surround sound speaker set a year ago and I couldn't be happier. The sound quality is amazing even in a very large open floor plan. I'm getting an additional sub (though not needed at all!) to simply make my system even more amazing. Keep up the great work, Crutchfield![ Kristopher Nov 09, 2016 ]
I chose this Definitive Technology ProSub 800 to complement my Definitive Technology stereo pair in my office. I am not looking for bone rattling base but expect to enjoy the benefit of freeing up the main amplifier to drive the stereo pair.[ H Nov 07, 2016 ]
Estimated best value for my limited placement space.[ Russ Oct 27, 2016 ]
I originally chose this subwoofer because it offered multiple wiring options and because it did not have a rear firing port, which I don't care for. The Prosub 800 has made a huge difference in the sound of my stereo and also has a small footprint in the room. I could not pass up getting a second one when the Prosub 800 went on sale again.[ William W. Oct 20, 2016 ]
Balance between performance and size constraints. Big SWs are great, but not necessarily work with room decor or significant others expectations. This SW allows me to make it disappear.[ Michael Oct 05, 2016 ]

Highly positive online reviews from owners of this unit. Also important that this unit is white to blend in with look of my living room.[ Olaf Aug 09, 2016 ]
This is the third Definitive Technology 800 I have purchased from Crutchfield. The first was for my home theater room, I paired the second with my in-ceiling speakers in the living area. Surprising power & clarity from such a compact unit. The one I ordered today will go with a Yamaha soundbar that I have in the family room. I hooked up one of the ones I bought previously, and it complimented the soundbar very nicely. A great unit![ KEN Jul 31, 2016 ]
rated very high for the price and look good in white[ Chris Jul 14, 2016 ]
Greg, I searched for quite some time and ended up with this one. Don't be fooled by its compact size....this puppy delivers clear bass sound that will shake the floor and windows and hopefully deliver the thumping you desire. For regular TV viewing, I leave the volume dial on the side just past 1/2 way, and I am quite pleased. It is quite easy to adjust to your liking for movies. VERY HANDY.[ Allen B. Aug 10, 2015 ]
I would say no, I have had mine cranked all the way up and though it shakes the walls it's not thumping in your chest. I'd look at SVS subwoofers in piano white.[ JASON Aug 09, 2015 ]
If you are looking for a big thump, this is probably not a good choice unless youbdo 2. I had to have white and it suited my needs, but only due to the color. I alphabet other Def white speakers and I wish there were more white choices. I think DefTech has larger subs, I would go with those if you are looking for thump. These have great sound but don't give you that chest pounding.[ kyle Aug 08, 2015 ]
Greg- Look no further. I have the Definitive Tech. Sub. hooked up to my Samsung 60" HDTV and I absolutely love it. I had to back off on the sub woofer volume as it was rattling the windows. It's been installed for 2 years and I haven't had one issue with it. I don't think you will be disappointed. Pull the trigger. GVN[ GARY Aug 08, 2015 ]
The prosub 800 is great and delivers tasty base for my music system. If you are really looking for serious base for your home theater, I would look to the prosub 1000. I'm very happy with it for my music and it does have n adjustment for output, but if you really want to feel it, you may be better served with a different unit.Good Luck, BIll[ Bill Aug 08, 2015 ]
