Wonderfully Balanced Headphones
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
The NAD VISO HP50 is easily one of the best sounding headphones out there, especially for the price. It is extremely neutral and balanced, with a hint of warmness. Bass is punchy and extends very well into the sub-bass frequencies. Mids are smooth, not as forward as other headphones, allowing them to blend well into the music. Vocals sound very natural as a result of this. Treble has just the right amount of energy and clarity, lending a sense of airiness without being fatiguing. Overall, these are some of the best sounding closed back headphones on the market, and if I rated them based solely on sound they would be a clear 5 stars. However, I took off one star because of its design, build, and comfort. Design is obviously subjective, but I am not a fan of the looks of the HP50. Next to my beautiful Sennheiser Momentum M2, they just look plain awkward. The headband makes a square shape when it's on your head that cannot be called attractive. Build is mostly of plastic and the earpads are not very supple. The headphones are so light that they feel very cheap. I also had problems with comfort/seal, as the earpads were not deep enough to seal around the angle of my jaw (I don't have the biggest head). Noise reduction took a hit because of this sealing problem as well. Despite these problems, the sound quality is amazing enough to warrant a 4 star rating. I would definitely recommend trying these out if you're looking for a great sounding closed back headphone.
Pros: Sound quality
Cons: Design, comfort, noise reduction
