NAD VISO HP50
Over-the-ear headphones with in-line remote and microphone (White)
Our take on the NAD VISO HP50 by Crutchfield's David Brown
Great sound through innovation
Warm, open sound and premium construction are the hallmarks of the NAD VISO HP50 (shown in Black).
Every headphone has its own unique sound. But you rarely hear about headphones sounding like speakers. That's because a key ingredient is missing: the room. That was the driving force behind the development of the NAD VISO HP50 headphones. NAD and Paul Barton, founder of sister company PSB, worked together to come up with a pair of closed-back headphones that have a more open-air sound. The result? The HP50 have been universally raved about for sound that's natural, warm, and open, particularly for a closed-back headphone at this price.
Bringing back the sound of the room
The VISO HP50 headphones employ NAD's innovative RoomFeel™ technology. Its purpose is to simulate the sound of speakers in a room. After all, music is mixed and mastered in the studio using speakers. The sound of the room itself is a part of the listening experience as crafted by the artist and producer. RoomFeel is about delivering that experience as truthfully as possible. Through clever configuration of the drivers and acoustic chambers, the HP50 headphones are able to achieve this feat without the use of digital signal processing, for an organic sound that's inviting and smooth. Plus, you still get the benefit of noise isolation that's inherent to a closed-back, over-the-ear design.
Great looks, long-lasting comfort
The smart design of these headphones doesn't end with RoomFeel. Brushed metal and leather appointments give the VISO HP50 a sleek and elegant look. Soft earpads will keep you listening for long periods. Plus they're lightweight for commuting and travel.
Remote and mic for iPhone®
Two cables are included with the VISO HP50: one straight cable and one with a built-in remote and microphone. Use it with your Apple® device to control music playback and adjust the volume, or to make hands-free calls with your iPhone. The cable can plug into either earcup — a nice touch of flexibility for those times when you need it.
Praise for the NAD VISO HP50 from Sound & Vision
"This was an easy review to write; the NAD Viso HP50 sounds as smooth as silk, with excellent detail retrieval, a big soundstage, and bass with the perfect balance of speed and low-end oomph. ...the Viso HP50 demonstrates how good a $299 full-size headphone can be."
— From Steve Guttenberg's review in Sound & Vision, June, 2014

Product arrived in good condition, the sound quality is very good thru all types of music. Only the bass is lacking when listening to rock or heavy metal. They are also comfortable on your head for a good amount of time. Overall the NAD VISO HP 50 is a very good product, would recommend to others.

Why did you buy this?
At the time, some of the lowest distortion, highest fidelity portable headphones available. Still excellent, but OPPO PM-3 and Meze 99 probably surpass them. [ JOSEPH Mar 14, 2017 ]
I have a NAD amp and cd player which I really like so I want to try their headphones. Good reports from previous buyers also had a positive impact. [ al Mar 11, 2017 ]

I liked the sound quality ofva receiver i just bought, a NAD. I expected it to exceed my expectations as the receiver did. The reviews were very good. I have a high end Bose headphones, but the mids could be better. So i cant wait to hear the NADs [ Michael Nov 14, 2016 ]

1 question already asked
i continue to use the cable that NAD provided with the cans and continue to be amazed by the detail I hear and the soundstage that I hear it over. Before you throw a lot of cash at a 'high-quality' replacement cable (which usually is crazy expensive) you take a look at the body of thought and research that says that there's little difference in the sound you'll hear between a $50 or a $5,000 cable. If you're still thinking of putting out some serious coin, be sure to do some real close comparison listening between your NAD cable and whatever else you're looking at. [ Jamboree Feb 22, 2016 ]
Check out the SpeakEasy cable from V-Moda for a microphone and iOS controls... if you don't need controls and mic, then any 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable will do. [ JOSEPH Feb 22, 2016 ]
It's a standard cable so there are dozens of high quality ones available. Amazon is a good place to start. [ MICHAEL Feb 22, 2016 ]
