Spacious, open sound

The original Bowers & Wilkins C5 in-ear headphones were widely acclaimed for their sound quality. Never one to rest on its laurels, B&W developed a new driver for their C5 Series 2 headphones, for sound that's more wide open and detailed, with more powerful bass response. The Mirco Porous filter on the end of each earpiece gives these headphones a distinctive look in addition to their role in delivering spacious, natural sound.

Remote and mic for Apple® devices

The C5 Series 2 headphones come with two miniplug cables: one straight cable, and one with a built-in remote and microphone. The three-button remote offers track and volume control for your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod®. The microphone lets you take hands-free calls with your iPhone. Sounds awesome. Takes some playing around to get a comfortable fit. The highs do not fatigue my listening experience, and the sound remains well balanced. They are a very good option when I'm not utilizing my Focal over the ear cans.

Sounds awesome. Takes some playing around to get a comfortable fit. The highs do not fatigue my listening experience, and the sound remains well balanced. They are a very good option when I'm not utilizing my Focal over the ear cans.

Pros: Clean and well rounded sound

Cons: Take the time to get the perfect fit for best results

Good fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are very good quality earbuds. It is difficult for me to find earbuds that fit and stay in place. The loop design works for me. It didn't get 5 stars because they could use a little more bass.

Pros: Good fitting earbuds

Cons: Needs more bass.

Great sound!

Richard from New Orleans, LA on 1/7/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These earbuds sound better than any I've used previously. I got them to replace some Bose earbuds that had "disappeared under mysterious circumstances." I'd planned to get another pair of Bose, but decided to spend a little more money to try out the B&Ws. I'm very glad I did. Their clarity and range seem far superior to the Bose. The design is unusual with respect to how it fits in one's ears (as was the Bose, for that matter), but I found it easy to get used to.

Pros: dynamic range clarity fit

Cons: none

These are very smooth sounding IEM's Base nice and prominent. It can get a little bit overwhelming if you into heavy Rap and EDM. On all other music. You will get that smooth B&W sound. It can handle most music that others at this price point can't. I have a pair of Focal Sphere's and when I use my amp. The distortions come comes through. These are my go earbuds when I want to use something very portable. Such as when I am out and about and sitting down having some lunch. Don't want to look to pretentious with bring out the big guns. These are my second pair and would give them 5 stars if the bass could handle a little more rap.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are well constructed and "bright" as others described, however I did not find them significantly better than much less expensive in-ear buds. I have used them with various sources to be certain, even using bass boost to see if these could deliver more. The cables are quite thin and as such far easier to tangle into tighter knots than others. Overall they were pretty disappointing and hardly worth the expense, nor what I expected from the reviews. I used a hair dryer to straighten out the cable kinks. I would not use the reference "in-ear headphones" as there is no comparison to the bass capacity of tried and true studio headphones.

Pros: Apparently well constructed. Ear-loop design does help hold in place.

Cons: Not much better than less expensive buds. Thin cables tangle easily. Time consuming to lock ear loops into place.

I have tried many others ear buds but I have to say these are the best pair I could find under $250. Few others even come close. The build quality is great and the sound is powerful with strong but not over done bass.

Pros: Stays in almost any ear type securely Excellent, powerful sound Sound mostly doesn't leak

Cons: Ears might be sore after spending more than an hour with them on but not too much

B&W delivers again

StephenT from Illinois on 1/7/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once again Bowers & Wilkins proves their worth. Coming off of a previous pair of quality in ear Klipsch buds I had high expectations. B&W shattered them. Bringing in perfect comfort (when paired w foam inserts) and an extremely full sound all around. Punishing these ear buds through constant travel and hours upon hours of music I find myself here writing this review over 13 months after purchase still very satisfied. These ear buds may not be high end studio quality but for $175 it will be hard to find something that will outperform and provide with optimal comfort. Had the mesh peice pop off of back of left bud, no sound damage, super glued a month ago. No problems since.

Pros: Amazing balance of sound Durable Mic sensitivity

Cons: Mesh peice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have compared the wifi man 600 earbuds to these and found the sound quality to be clear in the bass range which I like for classical music. I am also a big fan of the cord in the ear as I never have to be concerned about the ear but falling out and the variations in size are enough for everyone. I also feel the sound has some dispersion or more air to it compared to the 600. I also like the phone answering and speaking feature you included which the 600 did not have. The volume has to be somewhat louder with these than the 600 but that is small technical difference. Overall I think for my tastes they are perfect.

Pros: 1. very good overall sound with good bass qualities and clear crisp vocals. 2.inner ear holder for me the winner.

Cons: Maybe the caliber of the cable could be slightly heavier like the 600 to prevent any wear and tear.

top notch

While these ear buds are designed for use with Apple iPhone products I find them as an excellent choice for my HTC ONE M9. The M9 has audiophile capable 24 bit play back so you really need your buds to be top notch and the C5 s2's fit that need perfectly.

Pros: Build quality, tight bass.

Cons: None yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

OMG, after having the earbuds that come with my iphone, ipod, etc, its amazing how much better sound quality and fit & comfort with a $200 bud. These are by far THE best in ear phones I have ever heard! I just recently returned the Sennheiser IE60s, which are by far no comparison!!!!!!!!!!! These really rock for $179! even better, I used my bonus pts and got em even cheaper, SWEET DEAL! do yourself a favor, don't bother with all the rest, THESE ARE WHAT YOU NEED, no need to spend any more $$$. Now, I must return to loving my music again! LOL

Pros: the best buds for under $200, and at least 3x over too ! excellent fit and noise cancelling! deep tight bass, but lots of clear midrange and highs!

Cons: nothing!!!!!!!!! Just buy these right now!

C5 series 2

Bill from Springfield IL on 3/6/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I also own the initial C5 earphones which are exceptional in their own right, however the redesigned 9.5 mm series 2 speakers are beyond my expectations. For the price these are some of best sounding in-ear earphones I've owned. They look exactly like version one so I won't bore you with the design, fit, and appeal all of which are superb. Now the sound. I could not believe the improvement over version one. The highs are crystal clear with no distortion, the mids are excellent with unreal efficiency. On to the bass/lows. In a word awesome. Even at high volume there is no distortion. The bass goes very very low and the finish is solid with no roll off. I dare say that it is almost as if you have a subwoofer in your head. These have to be some of the best balanced sounding in-ear buds I've had the pleasure of listening to. Some find these to be rather uncomfortable but with a little adjusting they should be fine. As with all B&W products the build quality is near perfect, they will sustain some abuse, in the gym workout they hold their own. The cord strain relief is great and they do not get tangled easily. I have ear buds from Klipsch, Polk Audio, Monster, Logitech. The Klipsch X10i are the only ones that come close to the B&W in sound and comfort but they are also nearly twice the cost than the B&W C5.I was very impressed with the soundstage the longer I listened to them. Anyway, you be the judge, everyone's listening taste is different. I believe that you will be was.

Pros: Design, sound, and price. If you decide on these give them around 24 hours to break in. I just plugged them in to my ipod, turned the volume up about half way and then walked away for a day or so, then I did some serious listening and only then I could rate them. The sound only gets better the longer you play them.

Cons: I don't have many cons. In my opinion the only con I can think of would be the case. I can live with that since they are in my ears more than the case they come in

Excellent in-ear earphones

ddelu from Florida on 11/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had the privilege of user a number of different in-ear earphones and so far, I like the fit, finish and sound of the C5 Series 2 phones. I've had no problem with their unique method of keeping them secure and the sound is what I prefer: some bass that's not overwhelming and highs that are not irritating. Good mids fill in the space between. I've compared these to another well known brand costing over $500 and these, in my opinion, sound much better.

Pros: Well made, comfortable fit, good overall sound

Cons: Should include a wider range of earpieces to get a better seal and better bass.

Best headphones I owned

Jesus from Huntington, NY on 11/16/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Best by far worth the money. I've had every companies headphones monster shure klipsch Bose. This product is better than bose. Klipsch the x11i was close but pricier.

Pros: It feels like I have a subwoofer in my ear.

Cons: My ears bleed if you listen at top volume. You also can't hear your wife for 24-48 hours so it may also be a pro

Possibly the best in ear for the price

Purplegold from California on 11/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sounds are very well balanced without anything being over the top. Although, it would have been nice to bump up the vocals just a tad. It can get drowned out with some of the instruments, but not that big of a problem. At this point, I am nitpicking. Please, I beg you, do not consider buying these if you are listening to anything less than 256kbps. You will definitely notice the low compression rates. Your better off using the stock headphones if that's the case. These in ears will bring a new listening dimension to your music. The clarity will bring out the different instruments that you never thought were there before. These in ears are on the warm side with good bass to enhance the track and not muddy it up like other in ears. Comfort level is the only negative I have say about these. Your ears can hurt if worn for a while. It will differ for everyone. I believe that my ears are on the avg. side. But there are times where I have to play with it so that it gets a good seal and make sure it doesn't fall out. There have been times where I feel the earphones start to slip out while running. And other times, it just stays in perfectly. You definitely have to play around with it for sure. These are a great substitute for the P7's if you don't want to carry those behemoths around. Only the Bose IEM2i are more comfortable and lighter than these. I guess you can't always have it all. I also like the crescent shaped case that accompany these. Nice and small

Pros: Excellent highs, mids & lows Not heavy at all Elegant in design

Cons: Can be uncomfortable to wear if not put in correctly

The best hi quality ear bud for your dollar

dougseye from Honolulu, HI on 10/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This earphone lives up to all the hype. The series 2 is indeed an improvement over its predecessor, with better response at the high end. The bass continues to be remarkable for an earbud, with no hint of muddiness. I think the word "transparency" comes to mind when describing the sound quality. The wireloop design keeps the earbud in place and is quite comfortable for long listening periods. Whether you're listening to classical, jazz, or rock, you'll be pleased with the clarity across the sound spectrum. Oh, don't forget the fabulous price for what you get, as I've bought buds for $400 and $500 that weren't as good!

Pros: Fabulous response across sound spectrum. Price is great for what you get, outperforming products 2 to 2.5 times as costly. Wireloops hold in-ear phones in place nicely. Volume control and pause button on left ear cable works great for iPods and mic works for iPhones.

Cons: Wireloops can get uncomfortable after 4 hours or so, although I've gone to sleep with them in while my ear was pressed against the bed on one side.

Why did you buy this?

I had the Series 1 for several years and loved them. I recently lost them on a trip to Europe and needed to replace. I'm excited by the reported improvements is audio the Series 2 will deliver as the originals were excellent. This unit sounds great and is comfortable; I routinely wear them on 9 hour flights to Europe and 13 hour flights to Asia without any discomfort. [ Steven  Jan 15, 2018 ]
Love Bowers & Wilkins sound. Tired of wires when taking walks. [ Chalon  Jan 07, 2018 ]
Best earbuds I have ever owned. The musical highs are smooth and effortless, the bass are the most realistic full range and the best at lower range than all the others I have used. These earbuds are very favorably reviewed all over the Internet. The combination of Bowers & Wilkins quality ( I've owned a pair of their speakers for many years ) and Crutchfield service made them an easy choice. I'll follow up with a review after I audition them. [ PAUL T  Nov 17, 2016 ]

Alas, returned these. Was choosing between Sennheiser M2 IEi and these. B&W, while a very respectable brand, lost ground with me with this product. I have the Bose SoundSport ones. Yes I think they are weather resistant. I've had them for a year now, that stay put in your ear. I use them in hot and cold hiking in the parks. [ John  Jun 10, 2015 ]
own the Bose. Definitely sweat resistent since I bought them after using the Bose QuietComfort 15 at the gym and having to require 2or 3 replacements when the ear located electronics rusted out. Have never used them outside in bad weather but would expect no problems. What [ Brian  Jun 10, 2015 ]
This is actually my second pair. The first pair lasted me about two years before they needed to be replaced. Since they have a two year manufacturer warranty they replaced them with a brand-new pair I work out with them on a daily basis and they have fantastic sound quality and a great seal. I'm not a runner though I use the stationary bike and elliptical. I used the Bose and could not get a comfortable fit. I returned them. Hope this helps. [ JAMES  Jun 10, 2015 ]
I'm pretty sure that the Bowers and Wilkins are not sweat resistant. I certainly wouldn't exercise with them although they are excellent. [ Fred  Jun 10, 2015 ]
I have no problem with the C5-2 staying in my ears as a matter of fact they stay better than any other ear bud I ever used. [ FRANK J  Dec 16, 2014 ]
I've used both the original and the Series 2, and there is no appreciable difference between the two in terms of wearer comfort. The earbuds themselves are a little lighter, but the tips and the loop are identical. I'm one of the 3 people in the world the C5s fit perfectly, so I'm happy about this, but if the C5s didn't work for you, the Series 2 will be no different. Sorry! [ Daniel  Dec 15, 2014 ]
Same - I can't detect any real change to the form factor other than wire color... [ Mani  Dec 15, 2014 ]
Terrible. I sent them back. [ TODD  Dec 15, 2014 ]
The new C5 has the same design. It is a bit of a problem. Try lodging the wire loop under your ear ridge if you can. I make the loop as big as possible before insertion, then guide it under the edge of my ear ridge. I then push the ear bud in to get a good seal. If it's really a problem, consider using a small bit of moldable silicone earplug to temporarily secure the earpiece. Hope this helps. Dought T. [ Douglas  Dec 15, 2014 ]
I haven't used the original c5, but with the series 2 I was able to get it to fit after playing with the various size stoppers. It will not fit as perfectly as the bowers Wilkins website would have you believe, but they do stay snug with good isolation once you find the right buds. [ Mufaddal  Dec 15, 2014 ]
I have never used the original C5 but I do have a pair of the newer Series 2 version. I have had no issues with the earpieces staying in my ear and the wires seem to stay in place and their retention system seems to work quite well. I also like the balanced sound. Every ear is different so do your research. I did mine and so far I'm pleased. [ DONALD F.  Dec 15, 2014 ]
I have not owned the original C5, however, the series 2 still becomes loose in the ear while moving around. Another issue that contributes to the problem, is the cable is too short and constantly needs to be adjusted. [ JAMES A  Dec 15, 2014 ]
Tillman, I can't comment on the C5 as I've never used them. But from my experience with the series 2, I haven't had issues with them staying in my ear. The ear tips and the loop do a good job of securing it inside of my ear. The only time I find the earphones slipping out is when I'm working out. I think the sweat and constant running is a big part of that. But if you are just sitting or walking then you should have any issues with them staying in. You might want to try different tips to create a more secure fit. Also, I've heard from blogs that the series 2 ear loop is more malleable then the first release. [ MATT  Dec 15, 2014 ]
Hi, I used to have the C5 and now have the C5S2 and can not tell any difference in the fit or in rear retention [ MARKUS  Dec 15, 2014 ]
