Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
A recent trip that was a total of 13hrs each way (airport, connecting flights) had me dissatisfied with the performance of my old Polk Ultrafocus 8000 active noise canceling headphones. When I returned home, I began searching for noise canceling headphones priced from $400 - $1,000 when I came across the PSB M4U 2. PSB is well respected in the high end audio world and is known to make speakers that far exceed in performance for a given price. With Crutchfield, I felt confident to buy untested...I was not disappointed. At first, build quality was a concern until you considered the price which is below $300. Then the most critical test, listening to HiRes downloaded files in my collection that go up to 32bit/384k FLAC connected to Mytek Brooklyn DAC/HP Amp. The sound performance easily surpassed any active noise canceling HPs I have ever heard. One exceptional area is depth of staging. The depth presented outside of your head can take your breath away. At this price point, it is unbelievable. I would love to see what PSB could offer in a HP that cost $2,000 after experiencing such great performance at such a low price. For traveling, I used these with Onkyo DP-X1 HiRes player and had exceptional performance at all three settings the PSB offers. Enjoy the music!
Pros: Performance far exceeds price. Exceptional staging depth from a closed HP. Works perfectly without batteries. Multiple settings and two cords, one with iPhone mic/controller that allows you to hear conversations/announcements without taking HPs off. True tight fit with oblong cups and provide hours of comfort.
Cons: None, if PSB ever produces a $2,000+ HP, I would purchase.
