Oppo keeps raising the bar higher and higher. Never satisfied, they keep finding new ways to add more performance and capability to their highly regarded universal players. Their latest innovation is the BDP-105D Darbee Edition, which offers even better picture quality than the standard player. By incorporating Darbee's enhanced video processing, this player offers increased depth that will make your HDTV's picture look better than ever. Just like the standard edition, the BDP-105D offers audiophile features to go alongside videophile-pleasing performance. Connect other sources to this player's digital inputs and enjoy its extraordinary sound quality, giving this machine an unparalleled level of versatility.
The BDP-105D will make the most of virtually any disc you throw at it. 3D and standard Blu-ray movies look amazing. 2D Blu-ray discs and DVDs can even go three-dimensional thanks to the BDP-105D's new 2D-to-3D conversion. Movie soundtracks will reach new heights as this player delivers the latest audio formats like Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD® Master Audio™ with crystal-clear detail. Music will sound fresh and new, especially if you have high-res stereo and multichannel DVD-Audio and SACD discs, which will truly sparkle with the BDP-105D.
Thought your A/V receiver was the centerpiece of your home theater? Think again. The BDP-105D is poised to become a powerful multimedia hub for all your digital sources. With dual HDMI inputs as well as optical and coaxial digital inputs, you can run gaming consoles, network streaming devices like Apple TV®, and other digital sources through the BDP-105D for truly brilliant picture and sound. The front-panel HDMI input doubles as a Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) input for use with compatible smartphones and tablets or the Roku Streaming Stick™ — it's another way to enjoy movies, music and photos in your home theater using this versatile player.
The BDP-105D's digital inputs — optical, coaxial, USB type B, and HDMI — let you take advantage of the superb audio circuitry to enjoy amazing sound from digital sources like an HDTV, computer, game console, Apple TV®, etc. An updated asynchronous USB DAC input supports DSD and double-DSD files (2.8MHz and 5.6MHz resolutions).
Oppo's flagship player can also transform your computer into an audiophile-grade component. The BDP-105D's updated asynchronous USB DAC is now compatible with high-resolution DSD files, decoding them in their native resolution. Almost any uncompressed music file will benefit from this player's outstanding digital-to-analog conversion, for sound quality that rivals any CD and transport combination. You can even listen through the '105D's dedicated headphone amplifier, for DAC and headphone amp performance that by itself would justify this player's price. Of course, there are tons more features that make the BDP-105D a genuine bargain.
Oppo's flagship player is a brilliant choice for serious home theaters that include a large flat-panel TV or projector. Those displays really benefit from a top-notch video source that lets them show their stuff. The BDP-105D features some of the latest and most advanced video circuitry available, including Darbee's Virtual Presence technology, which adds astounding depth and realism to Blu-ray movies. You can even select the amount of processing that takes place, so you can customize the picture to your taste. DVD upconversion yields extraordinary results with your old discs — you'll occasionally be hard-pressed to tell the difference between DVD and Blu-ray. And with 4K upscaling, you'll be ready for the next generation of Ultra High Definition displays.
"If ever a product deserved to be considered the Swiss Army knife of digital media playback, the BDP-105 is the one. Whether you choose it for multi-format disc playback, for network-streaming capabilities, or to use as a DAC at the heart of a computer-audio system, the BDP-105 will consistently serve up levels of sonic refinement and sophistication that belie its modest price. Enthusiastically recommended."
— From Chris Martens' review of the BDP-105 (standard edition) in The Absolute Sound, April, 2013
While this player's picture quality is stunning, it's the BDP-105D's sonic capabilities that really make it a star. It handles every multichannel music and soundtrack format out there. Its 7.1-channel analog output makes the BDP-105D the ideal companion for older A/V receivers and preamp-processors that lack either HDMI connections or decoding for the latest surround sound formats. If you use the analog outputs, you'll enjoy sound quality that's superior to that of most A/V receivers. Oppo's fanatical approach to sound combines careful engineering with high-quality parts. For example, the player's dual audio DACs are the top model in the acclaimed ESS Sabre DAC family. Both are 8-channel DACs — one is dedicated to multichannel audio, while the other provides a stereo listening experience characterized by vanishingly low distortion and exceptional detail and soundstaging.
Need more ways to enjoy movies and music? Connect the BDP-105D's Ethernet port to your home network, or use the included Wi-Fi® adapter and enjoy Internet movie and music streaming with quality that will surprise you. The '105D supports 1080p streaming for Netflix® and VUDU®, as well as 5.1 surround sound for Netflix and 3D for VUDU. For music, there's Pandora® for casual listening and TIDAL's CD-quality streaming service, or try downloading high-res FLAC files and putting them on a thumb drive. Pop it in the front-panel USB drive and you'll be amazed at the lifelike sound. If you own an iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®, be sure to download Oppo's free MediaControlHD app, so you can browse and play songs from connected storage drives without turning on your TV.
In a world of lightweight Blu-ray players, Oppo's commitment to solid construction is reassuring. The BDP-105D's sturdy drive mechanism and advanced error correction help it sail through discs that cause other players to stumble and stall. One nice extra is two HDMI outputs. That's handy for feeding two displays, like home theaters with both a projector and a flat-panel TV. It's also a great solution if you have an HDMI-equipped receiver that doesn't handle 3D: you can send 3D video to your TV over one HDMI while sending multichannel audio to your receiver with the other. Like the original BDP-105, the BDP-105D is a pleasure to use, with soft-touch controls on the front panel and one of the best backlit remotes we've seen.

I rely was unsure about spending this much money on a player as you can buy a good dvd player for a few hundred dollars but im sure glad I did. first I buy underground tapes and they usully are just alright on this machine they play perfect.the player also plays sacd tapes and I descovered a new world of music.with my marantz the sound is unreal.the setup was easy and there are features in the player I dont realy need.Crutchfield is the best place to buy from.delivery is only a few days.they double box to protect the units.I have never needed there customer service but know they are always there for me.when I needed a recommendation for a receiver they gave me all the details on the marantz and it worked out great
Pros: picture and sound is the best
Cons: none found yet
This is a superbly build player with a very logical and easy to use remote. The image quality and audio quality are both spectacular.
I don't even know where to start.Right now i have my oppo 105-d hooked to a 10 year old sony tv .Streaming net flix & amazon via a roku,& play blu ray & standard dvd,s i really don't know why i would even buy anew tv.Yes believe it or not the picture is that Good!! Before buying the oppo 105-d i was useing the oppo 103 standard; same tv . There Is No Comparing the two the video is that much cleaner. Now on the audio side my hearing is not that good so it is hard to say. However thing,s do sound a little clearer.
Pros: Very outstanding video
Not much too said! Wow! after many on line research and reviews , I went ahead pull the trigger to order this BDP-105P , I couldn't happier. IMO this is possibly is the BEST player plus DAC build in decoder for the money, I know its not cheap! but it worth!
Pros: Hi quality video and audio outputs, ease to setup. quality built, plus great Crutchfield support, you can go wrong with this well know Oppo.
Cons: NONE, But here are few suggestions: I wish there are more external aux inputs, Phono input would by nice, plus I wish it support Spotify app. and Oppo WiFi supports 802.11N and 802.11AC 5Ghz.
Here is one unit that could be regarded as the best value in the entire high end audio. If you are an aspiring audio/videophile this unit a must have.....it will cover all the bases and at the same providing leading edge top notch performance in every area. It will satisfy even the most hardcore audiophile while simultaneously being easy to use offering a quick intuitive interface.....there is no product in the market that is remotely as good or complete. Proud to be an owner and glad that a company like Oppo exists with such great values and product strategy!
Pros: Every possible feature you can think of is included as well as several surprise delights
I have over 2000 cd's still and probably 100 SACD's and a few DVD Audio discs. Have had Sony ES dedicated players which were great, some Sony ES DVD/SACD players which were also quite good, and for a few years now an OPPO BDP-103 player. Video is the same as the 103, Darbee adds a little but I still see artifacts in using it (Blu Ray) but very I mean very minimal adjustments do help in TV when using the OPPO as the in-between with my HDTV box (HDMI In on Oppo) (I also have a stand alone Darbee unit so I am familiar with the Darbee)Blu Rays...not so much I prefer it off, basically same performance of 103 minus the Darbee. Audio....a whole different picture, everything is better, Streaming music, CD's, SACD's, PC Streaming through USB DAC input, well everything is better there is a big difference, yes, is it worth it...yes absolutely but ONLY if you have a quality power plant, and you are looking for audio enhancements if you are looking for a Blu Ray player the 103 is more than sufficient in fact way better than average, that unit is now in my bedroom, still rock solid and working like all Oppo's....like a tank indestructible. I honestly thought it wouldn't be worth it.....in this instance I like being proven wrong....very much so.
Pros: AUDIO, AUDIO, AUDIO, DAC, Noticeable difference even in Pandora vs. 103, tried many many songs comparing...there's a definite difference even in that. CD's SACD's same thing....noticeable differences. Is there better, sure...but not for this price.
Cons: None, other than it is large. Standard 17" Wide but a little tall. If you are considering this....who really cares about that stuff any how?
This was a killer deal on the BEST player on the market. It rivals my Cary SACD player for audio and is better than my playstation for video. Highly recommended!
Pros: plays everything
The 105D is musically excellent. This unit was bought for music first and movies second what a surprise how the unit is for video. Now for the original purpose the music ,it is great ,sounds clean and accurate with both SACD and redbook CD. The unit woke up my system with more detail then we have ever heard from the system. I have it connected to a dedicated 2 channel system but also have it connected via HDMI to my home theater also. The 105D is an excellent unit and should be considered by anyone serious about music or video. The Darbee is a serious upgrade of this unit also.
Pros: Sabre DAC Darbee Musicality
Cons: none I have found yet
I bought this to displace my Marantz UD5007 Bluray player but I also bought it because of all the rave reviews of the DAC in the Oppo105D (I listen to music about 70% of the time and only watch TV and movies the remaining 30%). Curious as to whether it would process sound better than my Anthem MRX510, I wanted to give it a try by connecting the Oppo to the Anthem AVR via analog. I also connected the two with HDMI for video. Using the Anthem I was able to very quickly switch between the two inputs and to my surprise, there was a fairly big difference in sound. While the Anthem was very detailed, it also sounded a little more recessed and laid back compared to the Oppo. The Oppo sounded much more forward and in your face. Imaging with both the Anthem and the MRX were spectacular with great depth. Depends on what you like. For us, we listen to a lot of Jazz, acoustic, and symphonies so the Oppos really did well in this regard. We prefer the sound coming out of the Oppo for sure. For video? Was it a HUGE improvement over the Marantz UD5007? There is some difference but not as big as the sound. The Oppo picture coming from Blu Rays leaves nothing to be desired.
Pros: + DAC produces supremely detailed, dynamic sound that is more forward than that of the Anthem MRX series. + Fantastic picture quality + Plays all media I have thrown at it. It is a great all in one solution.
Cons: - None yet!
I bought this for its analog audio performance, particularly for playing SACD's and BD-A's. Current CD players extract much more realistic sound from even early CD's, and the 105D is extraordinary. No wonder it sits high in the Recommended Components list of the really serious audiophile magazines. It's been fun exploring my huge CD collection and I'm buying SACDs as I can find them. But the video performance has been the big treat. I hooked to our 70" monitor just to help with setup, then I decided to watch a DVD jus because it was connected. The image is clearer, there's better color rendition, and I'm not seeing artifacts that I'd noticed with our recent Sony BD player. Even Netflix is better, with all those same improvements. Then I tried the headphone jack. I didn't know my AudiaTechnica phones could sound so good. I'd swear I'm listening to new clean vinyl and I'm 18 years old again. These are great times for CDs and other music discs.
Pros: Sounds very real on SACD's and CDs Extraordinary rendition of BDs and DVDs Clean and natural sounding headphone jack
My very expensive BR Player went belly up. I had read many reviews on the Oppo and decided to try it. It ended up being far more flexible and at less than half the original cost of my previous player. Picture is great. Easy to operate and a quick warm up to play.
Pros: Lots of connections and easy to hook up.
Cons: Headphone jack only operates the head phones and turns off other audio. Not sure why all the surround sound out pute when I already have a processor and surround system.
This is the best piece of AV/home theater/stereo equipment I have ever purchased. I'm getting older so ease of use from an installation/ software elegance is paramount for me, and I had no issues setting it up and getting maximum utility out of it. The wireless set up is about as seamless as it gets and even I was able to download digital music off a jump drive with ease. 1080P is stunning on this machine. Even my young adult children find the picture jaw dropping. I would highly recommend this or the 103 to anyone.
Pros: Build quality; ease of use; versatility; interfaces with my system; video and audio output. Stunning in all aspects
Cons: Not cheap but worth it!
This player replaces a very annoying player 3 times it's price. What a relieve to now have a player that does just what it needs to do. You can set it up to start a disc automatically after you close the tray, or you can push a track number and the the tray will close and the track will start. With the Mac it would take 6 or 7 acts to get that far. But of course none of that would matter if the sound isn't there. Well, it is and then some. Since my Mac pre-amp has both digital and analogue inputs, and the Mac player had the same DAC as the pre-amp, I can now instantly compare the same disc with the Oppo's DAC and the Mac's Dac. While there is very little difference in the overal sound quality, I found that especially in complex signals of big choruses or a Mahler symphony, the Oppo's sound is more engaging, and overall the sound stage has more presence. Especially the bass response is rock-solid. The organ in Saint-Saëns' Third Symphony in the famous RCA recording from Boston almost demolished my building. I've tried every kind of disc I could find, and the Oppo played it like a pro, even Blu-Ray discs I made myself to archive older recordings. Setting the player up was a breeze, and also the internet connection went smoothly (how often does that go wrong with players?). It is very nice to have the ability to push the "pure audio" button and all the video signal and front-panel lights will go off; all that's left is the audio signal path. A great plus!
Pros: Great sound Plays all discs (Especially SACDs are unimaginable) Easy operation "Pure Audio" path" Fantastic instruction manual. Inexpensive for what you get
This thing is amazing! This sounds cliche, but I'm hearing things in music that I know by heart that I've never heard before. The detail is so precise you can hear in between voices singing harmony. The soundstage is deep and wide. The quality of the sound is just perfect. Natural and warm. I'm now in the process of listening to every CD I own! The picture is also amazing. You can customize the image to your hearts content. There are so many options, its almost overwhelming! I'm am now officially spoiled. I can't imagine anything sounding and looking any better than this!.
Pros: Everything about this is just perfect.
Cons: This is an investment.
I waited almost 12 months before finally pulling the trigger on this. Price put me off, but I eventually figured out a 105D could replace half my current system and almost fund itself. I had a new credit card with 15 months 0% interest; Crutchfield gives you 60 days to try it out; free shipping within 5 days; it was the right time to get it. I've now had the 105D in my HT system for about 30 days and here is my initial assessment:
Pros: This unit will replace a Denon receiver, Denon disc player, Panasonic Blu-ray player, Schiit DAC, Schiit headphone amplifier and many feet of cables, and the system sound has been upgraded. My system now consists of: Panasonic 58" plasma, OPPO 105D, ADCOM 2&3-channel power amps, 5 Paradigm speakers, SVS subwoofer. The 105D is connected directly to the power amplifiers using multi-channel analog outs and I have never heard such clean, detailed, accurate sound from my system (which is around 15
Cons: Streaming music files over a home network is a bit clunky, but it does work. The resolution of this player is so high that badly recorded music sounds exactly that way - it is very accurate and doesn't mask anything. A warm analog sound (which can be more forgiving of a bad recording) is not this player's signature. Not an issue for me, but may be for some. This is a multi-tasking, high performance component - because of its complexity, it seems to freeze up every now and then (most
awesome in all aspects
Received unit in like new condition and in perfect working order! It was a great buy at a discount! No issues!
This is the best disc player I have owned. You can see that a lot of effort was put into the use of the most recent advances in technology and the design. Even the packaging is a state of art.
Pros: This disc player will perform with ultra precision, quiet moving parts, and automatically knows what kind of disc you have inserted into the drive. It also gives you multiple choices of inputs and outputs to a level of a top professional gear in a sound studio.
Cons: No cons I could discover.
The Oppo BDP105D was recommended to me on an audio forum, and I am very glad I took the advise! I have recently compiled a HiFi set up consisting of used gear that was originally several thousand dollars (over 10k). I am running Linn AV5140 loudspeakers and Linn amps with Aktiv (Active) crossover cards that tri-amplify the speakers, with a Linn pre-amp. This is very nice gear which can reveal extreme detail and highlight the best (or the worst) of a recording - or the source. Linn's Mantra is 'source first', but I wound up getting the real source last - so I had plenty of time to hear the same set up with a mid-grade bluray player. I wanted to get into streaming, but did not want to loose the ability to play blurays and CDs, and audio quality was of paramount importance. Well, the 105D fit the bill perfectly, everything needed as a source in one box. Streaming even relatively low-res bit rates sounds fantastic. CDs sound fantastic. Pluging in a thumb jack or hard drive and playing my digital library - it sounds like never before. I eliminated the Linn pre-amp and use the Oppo digital volume direct to the amps. It also eliminates the need for a separate multi channel processor, just go out of the MC analog outs on the back . One listen and my friends were equally impressed with the sound and 'put this on the list'. If you are wondering if it's worth the money - it is. It is actually a bargain when you consider the competition, and consider how many features it has
Pros: Audiophile Sound Quality
I'm an aspiring audiophile that was looking for entry into the hobby by purchasing a decent source. Based on reviews and price I decided on the BDP-105. I decided to add the Darbee capability because it didn't really add much to the price and folks seemed to say good things about it in reviews (in hindsight, probably was not necessary given my current TV, the fact that I mostly stream TV, and the because I do not care much about TV resolution). I wasn't sure if I would need a preamp or not so ended up getting a refurbished Peachtree NovaPre along with a Peachtree 220 to push my Vandersteen 2ce's. The NovaPre is a nice piece of gear (especially for playing compressed audio from a PC) but I ended up preferring the sound of the BDP-105 directly into the 220 using XLRs. The NovaPre only has RCA ins/outs so I think that the balanced (XLR) audio was the primary difference. Using the NovaPre (in comparison) was maybe a bit warmer/rounder sounding but going direct to the 220 via XLR, the sound was more articulate with much wider stereo image. Using t I keep a hard drive (or thumb drive) hooked up to the player and have really appreciated the iPhone apps that OPPO has released for browsing and playing music. It allows me to change what's being played from outside of the remote range and without having to use the onscreen interface...I know that is not mind blowing today, but it all the added features make this device usable for every situation that I have encountered.
Pros: - Sounds great - No need for a preamp - A lot of flexibility with I/O, hi-res format capability, USB input and integration with the iPhone apps - Great build quality and use of quality components - My first OPPO product but the software/firmware architecture seems flexible enough for company to support for years to come.
Cons: - The onscreen UI is intuitive but pretty underwhelming for high-end piece of gear (nitpicky) - Sometimes there is a pretty substantial delay in the audio starting when a new show begins or a new source is selected (does not affect sync with video, perhaps remedied with some setting changes, but really isn't much of an inconvenience) - I'm not really sure Darbee was necessary for me - The unit is pretty large so may not pass the "wife test" for some...but there is a lot of good stuff in the
Their is nothing else like it hands down on the market right now. Note however, If you are using the HDMI outs on this unit to your AV AMP you should not waste your money and buy the less expensive BDP-103. I upgraded to this from the aforementioned and The improvement on this unit is the internal DAC and the ability to take advantage of XLR outputs on the LR channels. If you are using a high-end quality AMP you will notice a HUGE difference in sound quality on 2-channel stereo sources. It is truly amazing actually. Now, the only negatives are the lack of many apps such as Amazon Instant Video (ouch), Tidal (high quality audio streaming - ouch!) and more. The other thing is that the surround sound outputs and SUB out are consequently much lower quality than the dedicated LR fronts. This is particularly annoying because in order to bring the SUB into mix you have to jack up the trim. I have to 2 JL f110 subs and they barely are in mix even after raising the trim. In my old AV setup I had to turn down the trim to be in mix. I did not knock any stars off for my concerns because where this unit falls short it makes up in spades in other areas and for the price you pay you cant expect high quality DACs on each and every channel. That is partly why so many pre-amps start around $4000,00 and go up from their.
Pros: HUGE VALUE
Cons: Lacks many apps and surround and sub pre-outs are only ok
Everything that I have ever read about this player is 100% true. It does audio and video the way a high-end piece of gear should - Perfect. The audio is crystal clear on MFSL and Audio Fidelity discs. Actually, any disc. Even my standard cd's sound better then they ever have. The harmonics and depth are unreal. This IS the best disc player I have had to date. The video is breath taking, and feels like your looking out a window. I have never seen the color and depth, without bleeding or over-coloring pop on any other player, like I do with my OPPO. The integrated Darbee system is so visually stunning, I'm glad I opted for this version over the standard 105. The best buy I have done for my system yet. Thanks Crutchfield.
Cons: Not one.
I am thrilled with the Oppo BDP-105D! An amazing and versatile machine, as a disc player it can handle virtually any physical disc you can throw at it (SACD, DVD-A, CD, etc), and as a DAC it accepts just about any digital media file you can think of - everything from MP3s to FLACs to ALAC and DSD/DSF (and SACD ISOs). The BDP-105D replaces to boxes in my setup - an older BDP-83 Special Edition universal disc player, and a Musical Fidelity V-DAC II DAC. As an added bonus, it's got a nifty integrated network player mode that can play media off of servers on your network (as well as from USB media). The sound is simply gorgeous - the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition was good, but the BDP-105D manages to top it, while adding a dream list of features. It would be a bargain at twice the price. I can't recommend the BDP-105D highly enough! P.S. Oppo tech support is great - I emailed them a question, and was very surprised to get an answer back in less than an hour. Nice!
Pros: Amazing sound, versatility and feature set - especially for the price.
Cons: Absolutely none.
I cant think of anything more than has already been said, its a terrific dvd player
This is much more than a Blu-ray player but I will start out by how well it plays Blu-rays and DVDs. The load time for playing a Blu-Ray is very quick at about 10 seconds and it loads any Blu-ray I tried without error. The Video quality is excellent with the default or flat settings. Adding about 35% Hi Def Darby makes the colors pop a little more with a slight increase in over all presence. It plays back standard DVDs very well with no artifacts that I could see. I added the Darby at 40% with 3% enhancement and edge enhancement for DVDs with terrific results. On to the audio evaluation and is what sets this unit apart from all others. The dedicated 2 Channel mode is simply audiophile grade. In my case I am running the balanced line outputs to my McIntosh C2500 tube preamp for all of my audio listening. SACDs have never sounded better with extremely clarity and wide sound stage. I am using a McIntosh MC352 for power driving the new GoldenEar Triton Ones. So I have a very wide audio bandwidth and high resulution system. The player delivers excellent Bass with great authority on the SACDs I auditioned with a detailed yet smooth output in the highs. Vocals were spot on with correct balance and presence without a trace of harshness. I auditioned DVD audio and rebook CDs with similar results. I am using the built in DAC with a USB input from my Mac Mini. Using Audirvana Plus it plays back all files including DSD64 and DSD128. The DAC is fantastic as well with great detail. Buy it!
Pros: Super Blu-Ray Player, Audiophile grade sound from the two channel outputs, built in DAC better than many stand alone units.
This thing is expensive but it's worth every penny, and I'm so glad I managed to bypass the consequences of hurting my savings account and finally purchased it! The music CD and Super Audio CD (SACD) part of this machine is incredible, and of course when you watch a regular and/or 3D Blu-ray disc, you just can't believe your eyes and ears! This thing is just beyond any music and/or DVD player I've ever had or seen.
Pros: Very high sound and picture quality, balanced XLR input for excellent sounding music, multi-channel output in the back for true surround sound movies and on and on....
Cons: Not a thing, just the price!
I've been using a Lexicon CD/DVD which retailed for quite a bit of money when I purchased it. I also used, for BluRay, a Panasonic player with Cambridge DAC. The Lexicon was my primary CD player as it simply outperformed the Panasonic/Cambridge combo. Desiring to replace all 3 units with one, the Oppo units had intrigued me, although I was concerned the CD playback would not match the Lexicon. However, I finally gave in and decided to purchase the Oppo 105 with Darbee. I am not disappointed, so far, with any aspect of the Oppo. DVDs look sharp and the Darbee processing provides surprising depth to the picture. CD playback is excellent, as well; even older, often screechy, CDs sound smooth and clear. I haven't yet had time to play with all the tweaks and adjustments the Oppo offers, but since the "out of box" playback has been awesome, I am sure it will only improve.
Pros: Great picture Clean, detailed CD playback
Cons: Didn't come with a pony
This is not just a Bluray player It is the all in one machine. You have two HDMI inputs and two USB inputs to connect portable hard drives ,Video camera to view all your home videos or photos thru this machine. You can watch Netflix with just a push of a button. Or Pandora Music ,You tube.and many more media networks. this is one of few machines with 7.1 analog audio outputs. Also two HDMI outputs . One to run to a projector and one for your TV. The audio and video quality is excellent. Videos on Netflix look like Bluray. Quality. The audio is audiofile grade. The video processor can upconvert up to 4k if your display is capable . The Darbee video processor adds better contrast to those dark scene movies. Making them more enjoyable to watch. This player is the best valu for the money. Other machines at twice the price will be hard to do all that this machine can perform at this level of quality.
Pros: great media server.
Cons: none yet.
Right out of the box, plug and play, and Wow! is all I can say. I run the front mains from the dedicated audio RCA outs and the others from their respective outs. This allows dedicated stereo music listening at the highest level but also allows the mains to function properly in 5.1 or 7.1 channel mode. The best of both worlds and let me tell you the worlds are spectacular. As is the video. The no brainer unit to have if you can afford it, if you can't then save up until you can. I'm sure this unit will benefit pretty much any setup however the better your other components are the more you will appreciate this Oppo. I'm running fully active Linn 5140's as mains, Linn Tukan's as rears, Linn 5120 active as center, Rel Stadium III sub, all driven by 3 Linn 5125 five channel amps with active crossover cards. My TV monitor is the weakest link, a 10 year old Sony XBR.
Pros: No need for pre-amp, can plug right into your amps Extremely good front channel audio output from dedicated outs Video processing as good as I've seen and Darbee adds to the equation
Cons: Would like more than 2 USB inputs Would like tone controls added with bypass capability
The Oppo BDP-105D Darbee Edition Is a great 3D Blu-ray. I do not know what I should write about first. The video performance is great. The Blu-ray player provides beautiful renditions of true colors and a high quality image. The audio quality is the best that I have ever heard. I am sure that it would be difficult for any Movie Theater to produce a better quality sound. The setup was simple and can be easily fine-tuned to take advantage of this highly technical piece of equipment. The player immediately saw my network and after a few minutes, the connection was completed. The manual is outstanding. It provides a systematic procedure to follow for setting up the player. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. In less than one-half hour, the player was connected to my system and, I was enjoying watching movies.
Pros: Great Blu-ray player
This OPPO delivers a tremendous quality image. All our disks display better. Instalation is very easy. Internet wireless access allows for firmware updates and streaming of many services. No more stopped disks because of a few scratches. It is expensive but an excellent product.
Pros: Excellent video and audio. Easy to install. Lots of connections for all needs.
Cons: It is expensive.
A superb player - I upgraded from the BDP-95 to get the DAC capability, which enabled connection to my Auralic Aries music streamer. Excellent sound!
Pros: Solid build, very reliable. Great value!
I am a novice and had no trouble setting up the Oppo. Great interface.
Pros: Easy setup
Outstanding picture, build quality, and sound. I love the 5.1 and 2.0 analog output to my AVR350.
Pros: picture, build quality, and sound, 5.1 and 2.0 analog output, free shipping, no tax, 60 day returns (you won't be returning this). Packaging is very nice.
I have never paid this much money for a BD player, but this is much more than a BD player. I built like a tank, a lot of attention to detail went on to this device, once you plug everything in, press the on/off button....."its alive".....even the remote control feels heavy duty. When I first opened the box, I stud there and looked at it for like a minute, I could not believe that OPPO or anybody would put so much attention in to the way it is packaged. The BD comes with its own carrying bag and the remote is neatly packed in a separate nice looking box made for like a $3000 watch. Setting it up for me was a breeze, I started testing it out with the last Rambo BD movie, selected the last battle scene, "WOW"..... what a difference in sound, video quality, and detail, everything comes alive. At first I was very skeptical in spending so much money on a unit, but know I see and hear why, is worth every penny.
Pros: Built quality, and detail, sound reproduction, video reproduction, set-up, awesome user interface.
Cons: none yet
Still learning the player picture quality and sound is excellent but I think I will get much more out of this player with time with its capabilities it has a lot to offer.
Pros: Picture quality is excellent still learning the sound system but its getting better all the time, I am using a surround system so trying to make adjustments, I have a Pioneer Elite Receiver with Bose speakers.
Cons: None at this time the player has a lot to offer.
When I put this player into my home theater, not only did the picture quality vastly improve, but the impressive audio quality was immediately apparent! One of the best things about the sound quality is when watching a movie, the dialogue is SO much more intelligible! Additionally, the detail, textures, background noises, EVERYTHING aspect of the sound quality went up. In my opinion, the Darbee processing is worth it on most sources; especially DVD. Plus, you can tailor the effect to your liking or turn it off completely. This player is so good that I'm going to change out my amplifier from my main listening system just to hear how much of an improvement it'll make. A word on the ease of use: VERY easy to navigate and to hook up. The only thing (and this is a minor quibble) I wish the remote did was turn on my Panasonic plasma (then, I would be down to just the Oppo remote!). Oppo's packaging was ridiculously OUTSTANDING! I have audio components that cost far more than this player that can't even approach how well this thing was presented when you unbox it! This thing would be a steal at $2000! If you're on the fence in deciding to get it or not, be assured that your money will be well spent. Oh, and I almost forgot! Their customer service on the phone was SUPERLATIVE!!! I have called Oppo 5 times now with questions about this player and every single time have been impressed!!!
Pros: pretty much everything
The Oppo 105D arrived as predicted and the set-up was straightforward. Right out of the box, the first multi-channel SACD I played was an audio delight. I am hearing nuance in the sound field that I never heard before. Stereo sources are simply astounding. It's like every recording is new to my ears. the video performance is equally phenomenal. Two emails asking about advanced setup and playback questions were answered in the same day by the Oppo tech support staff. American made, solid build-quality, and a great manufacturer... pretty difficult to believe. Believe it.
Pros: Superior Audio and Video performance. Excellent build quality. Excellent customer service.
Cons: High cost... but totally worth it.
Having owned an oppo bdp-93 in the past I have come to expect nothing but the best from the 105d and I must say this player does not disappoint. You will enjoy an apple-like experience when unboxing this beast. It comes well packaged and has impecable build quality. It has top shelf sonics from any format you through at it. You'll need to hook it up via balanced audio outputs in order to enjoy its audio prowess in stereo which truly sounds fantastic. The picture is also no exception it looks beautiful and the darbee enhancement give the picture new found depth from and material. Highly recommended if you can handle the price.
Pros: Build quality, analog and digital sound, picture and darbee enhancements. Styling and remote
Cons: Slow power up and down, load and eject times. Not cheap
September 2014 addition to prior review. One of the principle reasons for buying the OPPO BR player was speaking with Crutchfields tech folks on OPPO and OPPO's prompt response to all email questions BEFORE the sale. After months of dealing with issues on HDMI out not working in a Yamaha AV receiver (avr-867); I purchased a new Denon AVR-X2000 Receiver (from Crutchfields) and when I could not get the OPPO BR player to work on four different outs, spent two weeks going through EVERYTHING trying to make it work. Finally contacted OPPO as I'd isolated that the only equipment not working in four hdmi outs was OPPO. There technical rep spent a LONG time on the phone, trying various connections and testing the unit, before he determined there was a problem with HDMI Out #1, #2 worked. What shows how outstanding this company is, they are sending a new replacement unit (shipped the following day) EVEN THOUGH IT IS OUTSIDE THEIR NORMAL EXCHANGE PERIOD and normally would have been repaired under warranty. If you want the BEST Blu Ray player buy OPPO. If you want the BEST BluRay picture, buy the DARBEE unit- it is extremely user friendly and easy to use- you can adjust Darbee while watching- even has the option to SEE a Spit screen comparison or go back and forth, allowing YOU to adjust % of the Darbee affect to suit your tastes. . User manual is best I've seen in 40 years.
Pros: OPPO didn't have to REPLACE the OPPO Darbee unit, it could have been repaired under warranty and I would have been without their unit for couple of weeks just in shipping. INSTEAD- they ship a NEW unit, with a RETURN shipping label for the box for the old unit. Does not get better than that.
Cons: Are NONE. Don't say that often, Crutchfield STANDS behind what they sell, ensuring their customers are satisfied AFTER the Sale;
I was looking forward to receiving the Oppo 105D and getting it set-up after reading all the reviews recently. The unit is wonderful and the build quality is apparent from the time you open the box. I have purchased many different systems and components over the years and while I dont consider myself an over the top "audiophile" I do appreciate and expect great sound and quality. This unit did not dissappoint. Unlike many also ran competitors the unit is very high quality, has great packaging and wonderful documentation for easy set-up and calibration etc. Oppo did not skimp on this and you even get a carry bag in the box that I am using to keep my documentation together. The sound quality is great and the controls very simple and easy to use. I highly recommend this unit if it fits even a stretched budget.
Pros: build quality, documentation, ease of set-up and use, sound and picture reproduction
Cons: cost and single disc
Best Player of dvd or blue rays I have ever used. Terrific sound quality. Using in stereo sys with Lexicon controller and aerial 10T speakers with Levinson 333 amp. New 3 terabyte Tivo pro and an inexpensive BIC America 12" sub set up through crossover in the Lexicon. At my age I have owned tube sys, 4 channel venal with AR3s VCRs of every kind as well as a 5.1 dedicated theater with a projector and 6' screen. I have had my Lexicon upgraded as well as my Levinson 333 amp. I am very happy with the system as it is currently configured and the Oppo was the last component I can afford to buy in a world where America owned the R & D for audio and video as well as the manufacturing facilities. We no longer have video, and there are fewer specialization stores for audio and video exclusive of very large cities.
Pros: Picture and sound
Cons: Like many products, I have to worry about future repair.
First off, this is actually for the OPPO 103D, which is nearly the same electronics except it doesn't have the Whiz Bang of the 105D in the AUDIO side. Wish I had the money for the 105D, didn't and had to settle for the 103D. Second, would have bought from Crutchfield and asked three times but they didn't carry the OPPO 103D model. Been doing the 'audiophile routine since the mid-1960's, building Mac tube amps, Marantz, building custom 3-way speakers as prelude to building a pair of Altec Lansing 'Voice of Theater' speakers (their components and design, my 100-hours to build a walnut box as their speaker was black painted plywood for use in auditoriums). Am not easily impressed, but OPPO has done it. From OPPO's aluminum metal chassis which weighs in at 3-5 times what box store's plastic BluRay players (Sony, Samsung, LG. etc.) will weigh, ... to their OUTSTANDING User Manual, in English (no other languages present- thank you"; each language should have it's own book in this reviewer's opinion"- cudo's to OPPO), ... a User Manual with the Best laid out / Best seen in Years, having the most Concise explanations on what to do and how to connect OPPO's BluRay player- this 103D BluRay player is a 'Class Act' (OPPO 105D sold by Crutchfield is THE UNIT to buy, IF you have the bucks (specifics see OPPO's Web site at: ... www.oppodigital.com Oppo's 103D & 105D metal case, and BR drive are the SAME. Electronics adjusting Sound is where a 105D shines (see PRO below)
Pros: Review continued. The 105D has the HIGH-END ELECTRONICS to provide the OPPO'S OWNER with the LAST WORD in customizing, improving, or creating BETTER SOUND (OPPO manual> www.oppodigital.com/BDP105/BDP-105D_USER_MANUAL_English_v1.1.pdf ,,, OPPO 105D is made FOR anyone having, wanting, or working on HIGH END audiophile sound system. You can spend MORE money; however, it's doubtful you'll find better. 'Q' for quality is built in; push drawer button (lighted) to load a disc & listen. cont-Cons
Cons: Short answer- NO CONS found. Review cont'd: Listen to "snick, snick" of drawer opening and closing, it's movement has more commonality to a bank vault than 'normal' BluRay players. DARBEE is same in both 103D & 105D. More amazing than the VIDEO picture's quality you SEE using OPPO's 103D/105D, is how OPPO made Darbee system so easy to use (ps: you get a Darbee unit- FREE! / Darblet DVP-5000, available at Crutchfield) All BluRay is not the same- not when you see Darbee BluRay- BUY IT
I found this unit to have outstanding picture and sound quality. With a unit like this the quality of other features are less important. Though I would say the other features are in line with what you'd hope for. The use of dual HDMI ports allows for a higher quality method of connection by allowing the user to run direct to the processor and display like back in the days of component video. The analog stage is very impressive. It is in fact the biggest reason to select this player over the 103D. If you plan to just watch movies and not so much with the audio then the 103D is the better choice. The build quality is excellent. rather the build quality is what it used to be before the current wave $100 junk players. With the digital of blu-ray there is such a small difference in video quality that there has been a race to the price floor. In that race build quality has been nearly lost. Not with this player though. I was also impressed with how it was packed in the carton. The Darbee feature is neat. It does add a bit to the picture. Considering how the picture on blu-ray is produced it does help to overcome the inherent problems with the format. However it is not an advantage for all material.I would recommend this player to anyone that is looking for the best possible quality at an affordable price.
Pros: A/V quality Build quality Price, I note price because typically this level of performance relative to the state of the art would generally carry a price tag of 2 to 3 times the price of the Oppo.
Cons: I don't consider the analog stage a con however if you are not interested in SACD, DVD Audio or high quality CD then paying for this would be a disadvantage. You could buy the cheaper 103D and not notice what you are missing as the video quality is the same with similar build quality.
The Oppo BDP-105D is truly a Swiss Army Knife of DVD Player + Streaming device. It easily found and plays my digital library of mostly 96/24 FLAC files on a Vortexbox. These and Rhapsody tracks sound better using the Oppo as both streamer and DAC than I have experienced before. Given that, the clunky interface needs much improvement. Prior to the Oppo, I used the Squeezebox Touch as my door to both my NAS and online services. I loved the ease with which I could mix tracks from my NAS with Rhapsody into one seamless playlist. The Oppo requires the TV screen menus to access online services while its iPad app only provides the NAS library. The sound is excellent. The DAC is no slouch, at least equal to component DACs in its price range. The pass through "Pure Audio" feature allows use of a stereo preamp in the system, but this unit itself works beautifully as a very flexible multi-channel pre-amp. DVD playback is perfect as one would expect from a device of this caliber. I do not have a 4k or 3D TV so I cannot comment on that. For me, the Darbee feature is just a toy, not worth the extra cost. One final complaint, the remote lacks discrete buttons for input selection. It uses a single button to rotate the inputs requiring viewing of the unit or the TV screen to select one. Netflix works well but I still prefer Roku for the its variety and ease of use. In sum you get an excellent DVD player, music and video streamer, DAC and pre-amp in one nice package.
Pros: Fine DAC, good NAS streamer, great flexibility in speaker set up, good selection of inputs and outputs, great DVD player, can use an add-on Roku stick via MHL port in back.
Cons: Needs a much improved iPad app. Needs discreet input selection instead of a single scrolling button on the remote.
One of the best players on the market. But if you have already a good DAC, choose the 103D.
The Oppo BDP-105D is much more than a universal CD/SACD//DVD/BlueRay disc player. It actually has become the heart of my home theater. With its HDMI INPUTS, DACS and Darbee Visual Presence capabilities it has become THE audio and video processor in my setup and it does so brilliantly.
Pros: Excellent built quality and performance.
Cons: Limited universal remote capabilities.
This is a very high quality Blu-ray player that can play almost every type of Disc including SACD's. Plus with the built in apps, like Netflix and Pandora, you can use the Oppo's built-in high end DAC's and video processing to produce the best possible quality available from these services. With the digital inputs and volume control available on the remote, this Oppo can be connected directly to a multi-channel amplifier without the need for a separate preamp/processor. But I would still recommend using a separate preamp or receiver with this player if you need more than just a few digital inputs and if you want to use the automatic room correction and EQ available on most preamp/receivers. Despite my title, I am not sure you can find ANY Blu-ray player at ANY price that can outperform the picture and sound quality of the Oppo BDP-105D.
Cons: I wish Oppo had more built-in apps, especially some more high bit rate music service apps like "Beats Music" and "Spotify". Also, although this Oppo can upscale content to 4K, as far as I know, it can not stream 4k programming from Netflix. I am not sure if this can be changed with a future software update, or if the current hardware configuration is not capable of processing 4k Netflix.
Amazing product. Stunned even my AV installer. Clarity so far on Blueray amazing. Depth of field unlike any other player we've used. Great value at this level. Looks amazing on our 75" monitor.
Cons: Could probably use one more audio out for use with audio matrix and distribution to other zones in house.
Although the price may seem like a lot to some, for me it was well worth it. It has 4K, HDCD and lossless support and balanced outputs as well. Sound quality is excellent although maybe a touch harsh. I will probably continue to use my old player for audio CDs as the imaging is better. I'll use the Oppo for Blu-Ray.Transport is reasonably quiet and boots up CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray quickly. All the other Blu-ray players in the same price range couldn't match the features. The Oppo easily boots up CDs, DVDs and Blu_rays that my $4500 Denon choked on.
Pros: Supports everything I want including balanced outputs, HDCD and lossless formats. It also has 4K video support should I decide to buy a 4K TV in the future.
Cons: I prefer real front panel buttons for play, next track, etc. Don't care much for the touch-screen type buttons. You have to look to see which button your finger is on as opposed to finding it by touch.
I use this Oppo unit to play SACD discs, and have compared it to a NAD Masters Series M5 SACD player I have; I cannot tell any difference in terms of resolution and clarity between the two units. So sonically it is very impressive. I also enjoy the local networking features; using my iPad, I can listen to music from several computers on my network system, but the networking software is a little glitchy and needs to be more robust. If Oppo could stabliize and improve the network search features and the user interface, including the iPad app, this unit would be unbeatable.
This is a brilliantly designed and exceptionally performing product. It does a great job with any type of disc, blu-ray, dvd, cd, sacd, etc. Sound quality is very much better than my top of the line Sony ES player which cost much more. My main surprise is how much it improves regular tv watching with my Comcast converter plugged into the Oppo BDP-105D. Cable tv now looks and sounds like a high quality dvd. This is truly a high end quality product in both audio and video performance. The price may seem high but compared to its competition it is a great value. Oppo's customer service has a reputation of being prompt, dependable, and U.S. based. I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Amazing sound and vivid picture.
Cons: Menu scrolling. Maybe I'll find some short-cuts.
I really like the Oppo 105D. The player is well built and looks great. The analog sound is awesome. The Blu Ray player is beautiful and loads so fast it isn't even funny. The only drawback is the Darby is barely noticeable and not worth the extra cash. Save it for some discs.
Pros: Sound quality, build quality and load speed.
Cons: Cost. Darby not really worth the extra money. Crutchfield was a joy to do business with as usual.

Blu-ray Disc: Blu-ray provides these key features and advantages.
Note: Like DVD, BD uses region codes. The region code on your disc must match the region code on your player, otherwise the disc will not play. The BDP-105D is Blu-ray region A and DVD region 1. Blu-ray Disc uses the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) to prevent unauthorized recording of copyrighted material.
Blu-ray 3D: Blu-ray 3D is the Blu-ray disc video format for 3-dimensional (3D) video playback developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). Supporting Full HD (1080p), so you can enjoy high quality 3D video. TV and Blu-ray titles are also required to be 3D compatible to enjoy the 3D experience. Adding a 3D capable A/V Receiver will provide a more engaging audio and video consumer experience.
Firmware Updates: As Blu-ray technology continues to evolve, new disc types with enhanced functionality will become available. In order for you to enjoy this new functionality, you will likely be required to update the firmware in your player. These firmware updates will become available for downloading from the Internet via the rear-panel Ethernet terminal. Occasionally, Oppo may release new firmware for the purpose of additional features or product improvements. Firmware updates can be downloaded from the Oppo website via the player's Ethernet connection. This player offers automatic firmware notification.
Note: Visit Oppo's Help and Support site for the latest firmware updates.
DVD-Audio: DVD-Audio is an extension of the highly popular DVD format, distinguished by its capability to deliver high quality multi-channel audio capability previously unavailable in traditional packaged audio media.
SACD: The BDP-105D plays Super Audio CD (SACD) and supports both stereo and multi-channel high resolution audio programs. Blu-ray Players that support Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music. Users can select whether to output the DSD (Direct Stream Digital) signal in its native format over HDMI or convert it into high resolution PCM. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range, some 64x higher resolution then CD, Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just can't hear on a normal CD.
HDCD: High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD) discs let you enjoy expanded dynamic range and improved audio resolution.
AVCHD: AVCHD (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) is a digital video format used to record high definition or standard definition video, using an efficient data compression coding technology. The format is designed to compress video and audio (Dolby Digital or Linear PCM) data, enabling a high definition video signal shot on a digital camcorder and recorded on DVD disc to be played back. The BDP-105D supports AVCHD playback from DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs.

Music File Playback: The Oppo Blu-ray disc player supports playback of AAC, FLAC, MP3, PCM, WAV, and WMA audio files recorded onto DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs.
PAL/NTSC Conversion: The BDP-105D supports NTSC and PAL systems for both disc playback and video output. It can also convert content of one system for output in another.
Parental Control: Parental Control allows you to set a rating limit based on the age of the viewer, preventing your children from viewing inappropriate material. Playback will stop if the ratings exceed the level you set, and it will require you to enter a 4-digit password before the disc will play back.
Rigid Chassis Construction: Built around a heavy gauge steel chassis, sculptured aluminum faceplate, and center-mounted tray, the BDP-105D is designed to impress as well as to provide a stable base for the highest quality reproduction of your favorite audio/video media. The BDP-105D is also passively cooled, allowing it to run both cool and quiet without the need for internal or external fans.
Qdeo by Marvell: The BDP-105D incorporates Marvell's Kyoto-G2H video processor with the second generation Qdeo technology. Qdeo video processing delivers a truly immersive viewing experience by rendering quiet natural video free of noise and artifacts for all types of content. The amount of processing is adjustable, allowing you to customize the visual enhancement to your particular taste.
HDMI Inputs/Outputs: The Oppo BDP-105D is fitted with dual HDMI outputs and dual HDMI inputs.
Notes: Some A/V sync problems may occur when some cable TV boxes are connected via the HDMI IN port (front or back). The Blu-ray player does not feature any analog video inputs or outputs; such as composite, component, or S-video.
4K Up-Scaling: The Oppo BDP-105D further enhances your home theater experience with four times the resolution of Full HD 1080p, by up-scaling all video sources to 4K (3840 x 2160) output resolution.
True 24p Video + DVD 24P Conversion: Many Blu-ray Discs are recorded at 24 frames-per-second (fps), the same frame rate as the original movie's theatrical release. The BDP-105D can faithfully redeliver the original frames using 1080p 24Hz output (compatible display required) for smoother motion and a flicker-free, film-like home theater experience. DVD 24P Conversion allows you to enable 24Hz frame rate conversion for DVD for smoother motion picture experience.
Source Direct Mode: For users who wish to use an external video processor, high-end audio/video receiver or display, the BDP-105D offers a "Source Direct" mode. The original audio/video content on the discs is sent out with no additional processing or alteration. The actual output resolution varies by content:
|Content||Source Direct Output Resolution|
|Most Blu-ray Movies (film source)||1080p or 1080p/24Hz|
|Most Blu-ray TV shows or Concerts (video-source)||1080i|
|SACD and DVD-Audio||1080p|
3D-Ready: The Oppo BDP-105D lets you enjoy 3D Blu-ray disc movies in full HD 1080p. There are three 3D output settings.
Note: 3D viewing requires compatible 3D content, 3D-ready HDTV, 3D emitter and glasses, and a high-speed HDMI cable (supporting at least 10.2 Gbps) connection.
2D-to-3D Conversion: Take your standard DVD, Blu-ray, and other video content to the next dimension by converting them into 3D with the simple press of a button. The BDP-105D can also adjust the depth and eye convergence levels to suit your personal preference.
3D TV Size: This option applies to 3D mode, to help the player adjust the 3D image to the screen size of your HDTV for better visual quality.
x.v.Color: x.v.Color reproduces a wider range of color than the HDTV standard, showing almost all of the colors that the human eye can detect. Currently there is no x.v.Color software available on Blu-ray, but the BDP-105D is ready to take advantage of x.v.Color discs when they become available.
Deep Color: The HDMI output supports Deep Color, increasing the number of bits available for transmission, meaning more colors are displayed. The BDP-105D can provide 4,096 shades of each of the three primary colors, for a total of 68.7 billion possible colors. This results in greater color fidelity, smooth tonal transitions, and ultra-fine gradations between colors. It also enables more shades of gray, for higher contrast ratio.
Aspect Ratio and Zoom Modes: The BDP-105D supports multiple levels of aspect ratio control and image zooming. Users can watch a movie in its original aspect ratio, fit to the full screen, or zoom in to remove the black bars on some titles. For users with a 2.35:1 CIH (Constant Image Height) display system, the player's zoom modes include a vertical stretch mode to work nicely with an anamorphic lens. You can choose from the following Aspect Ratio and Zoom Modes:
Subtitle Shift: For customers using a 2.35:1 "Constant Image Height" video projection system, subtitles may get cut off because they are positioned outside of the active video area. The Subtitle Shift feature can be useful to these customers. The player can shift subtitles up or down so they are displayed within the active video area.
Advanced Picture Control: Users can have fine control of brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, sharpness, noise reduction, color, and contrast enhancements. The player can remember and apply three custom picture control modes to suit a variety of viewing conditions and content types.
Bonus View: The Bonus View feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.
High-Quality Sound: Thanks to the high performance DAC chips, the toroidal power supply, high quality parts, and engineering, the Oppo BDP-105D offers a very detailed sound with an extremely low noise floor and distortion. You will hear details from your music that you have missed before.
Sabre³² Reference Audio DAC: The DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) is one of the most important components for digital audio playback. The Sabre³² Reference ES9018 from ESS Technology is the world's best performing 32-bit audio DAC solution targeted for high-end consumer applications and professional studio equipment. With the ESS patented 32-bit Hyperstream DAC architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, the Sabre³² Reference DAC delivers an unprecedented DNR (Dynamic Range) of up to 135dB and THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion plus Noise) of 120dB; the industry's highest performance level that will satisfy even the most demanding audio enthusiast. The BDP-105D uses two ES9018 DAC chips; one for the 7.1-channel output, and another for the dedicated stereo output.
Toroidal Power Supply: A toroidal power transformer offers superior power efficiency and much lower exterior magnetic fields over traditional laminated steel core transformers. The BDP-105D's toroidal linear power supply provides a very clean and robust power source to the critical audio components.
Analog Outputs: The Oppo BDP-105D is fitted with unbalanced stereo RCA outputs, XLR balanced stereo outputs, and 7.1ch RCA analog outputs.
Digital Outputs: For simple and easy connection to more traditional A/V receivers, the BDP-105D features both optical and coaxial outputs for digital audio. The optical and coaxial digital inputs support 48k LPCM, 96k LPCM, 192k PCM, and Bitstream (Dolby Digital/DTS). Due to bandwidth limitations, high resolution audio formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. A reduced resolution version of the same audio track will be output instead.
Digital Inputs: The Oppo BDP-105D can function as a dedicated DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and process external digital audio signals with its internal Sabre³² Reference DAC. Three digital audio inputs (Optical/Coaxial/USB) allow you to connect external audio devices. The processed analog audio is output through the player's stereo RCA, XLR and analog multichannel output terminals.
Digital Audio Formats: The Blu-ray player's HDMI output is capable of multi-channel bitstream (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital, and DTS) and multi-channel PCM output. The optical and coaxial digital outputs pass either Dolby Digital or DTS bitstream, or 2-channel PCM.
Pure Audio Mode: You can enjoy higher quality music audio by turning off the video processing and output. The Pure Audio mode reduces any potential interference between the video and audio signals.
Note: Because HDMI carries audio together with video, the HDMI video signal cannot be completely turned off. A black screen is transmitted instead to minimize any potential interference.
Audio Format Chart:The following chart provides a reference to what type of audio signal can be expected (when Secondary Audio is off):
|Source Format||HDMI Output||Coaxial/Optical Output||Analog Multi-Channel Output|
|LPCM 2ch||LPCM 2ch||LPCM 2ch||LPCM 2ch||LPCM 2ch||2ch|

ARC (Audio Return Channel): Audio Return Channel (ARC) is a feature introduced in HDMI v1.4 which allows you to send digital audio signals from the television back to the player or your receiver. Instead of listening through the TV speakers, ARC allows the sound to be processed and produced by your home theater audio system.
Direct Stream Digital (DSD) Encoding: The Super Audio CD standard is based on Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology, a 1-bit system with a digital sampling frequency 64x that of conventional audio CD's 2,822,400 samples per second. Mixed with as many of the original frequencies as possible, the audio information audible for human ears sounds much more natural than CD. The DSD bitstream can be output via HDMI or the multi-channel output.
Down Mix Mode: Down mix is the process of converting multi-channel audio to less number of channels. For example, converting a 5.1ch source to stereo, or converting a 7.1ch source to 5.1ch. Down mixing allows the audio output from the player to match the exact number of speakers available in your home theater. The following down mix modes are available.
Speaker Configuration: In the Speaker Configuration menu you can configure speaker settings such as speaker distance, speaker size, crossover frequency, and trim level.
Note: Speaker Configuration applies to the multi-channel analog audio outputs only. All digital bitstream and LPCM outputs are unaffected by these settings.
Dynamic Range Control (DRC): DRC can smooth out the sonic peaks and valleys common with wide-range digital audio. Enabling DRC may make low level audio more audible during low-level listening. The Dynamic Range Compression is applied on the analog audio output; it also works on the digital audio output (HDMI, Coaxial and Optical) when the audio format is set to PCM.
Headphone Output: The Oppo BDP-105D features a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphones, so you can listen to your music privately. The headphone output's volume can be adjusted within the unit's on-screen menu.
Wireless or Wired Network Connection: Using the included wireless-N adapter or the built-in Ethernet (RJ-45) port, you will be able to interact with BD-Live content, watch instant streaming programs from online providers (such as Netflix/Vudu/Pandora/YouTube), playback contents stored on your home network, and keep the BDP-105D up-to-date with firmware releases to ensure maximum Blu-ray compatibility.
Network Media Sharing: The Oppo BDP-105D can remotely play back music, photo, and video files stored on your Windows PC or NAS (Network Attached Storage) that are connected to the same home network. Your Windows PC or NAS must be DLNA certified or SMB/CIFS compatible.
Online Entertainment Services: You can instantly watch movies and listen to internet radio from select online video and music service providers.
Note: Online entertainment services requires a home network with a connection speed of at least 2.5 Mbps recommended (10 Mbps for HD content). Video quality and picture size vary and are dependent upon broadband speed and delivery by content provider. Online content may require additional fees and/or PC registration. Available online content may change without notice.
BD-Live: BD-Live is a collection of online interactive features that content providers may include with a Blu-ray Disc movie to enhance your enjoyment of that movie, providing you a compelling new world of extended interactivity. BD-Live includes access to studio-specified Internet sites that provide you the ability to, for example, download current movie trailers or other exclusive content, play movie related games, enhance the content of their disc, chat with other viewers, play games with other BD-Live connected players, and much more. Blu-ray players and movies must both support BD-Live in order to use the technology.
Triple USB (type-A) Ports: The Oppo BDP-105D Blu-ray Disc Player is equipped with three USB ports (1 front/2 rear). The player also includes an external USB dock for easier connection. You can use the USB ports to plug in a USB drive for audio, video, and photo playback. The USB ports are rated to provide 5V and 1000mA (maximum) to power a USB drive; that is sufficient for USB (MSC) thumb drives and flash memory card readers, a USB hard drive may require an external power supply. Supported USB drives can be formatted with the FAT (File Allocation Table), FAT32, or NTFS (New Technology File System) file system.
Note: USB devices such as MP3 players, digital cameras, and mobile phones are not compatible. Not compatible with iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
Start Up/Play Back Time: The Oppo BDP-105D Blu-ray player has a start-up time of approximately 16.1 seconds. It takes approximately 25.7 seconds for a Blu-ray disc to begin playback.
Note: The Start Up/Play Back Time tests were started with the Blu-ray player initially turned off and in standby mode. The Start Up Time test was stopped when the player's Home Menu screen appeared. The Play Back Time test was stopped when the Blu-ray disc began playback.
Gracenote MusicID and VideoID: Music and Video recognition technology and related data are provided by Gracenote. Gracenote is the industry standard in music and video recognition technology and related content delivery. By connecting to Gracenote's global media database over the Internet, the BDP-105D can offer an enriched playback experience by displaying Cover Art, Title, Artist, Genre and other media information for CD, DVD, Blu-ray and a wide range of digital media files. For more information visit www.gracenote.com.
Memory and Automatic Resume: The player automatically remembers the current position when playback is interrupted. Operations such as Stop, Open/Eject, or turning Power off will cause the player to save the current playing position. The position is memorized even after turning off the unit or changing the disc. When the next time the disc with a memorized playing position is played back, the player will recognize the saved playing position. Playback will automatically resume from this saved position. The player can remember playback position for up to 5 discs. When the sixth disc is memorized, the oldest one is replaced.
Note: Some Blu-ray Discs do not support resuming and will always play from the beginning.
Display Dimmer: The Blu-ray player lets you control the display intensity of the front-panel Vacuum Fluorescent Display. You can choose Standard, Dim, or Off.
Screen Saver: The screen saver is designed to minimize burn-in concerns for plasma and CRT display devices. Video output will be turned off after 3 minutes of inactivity.
Wireless Remote Control: The BDP-105D comes with a fully back-lit remote control for ease of use in dark home theaters. With its ergonomic button layout and clear labeling, operating the Blu-ray Disc player is easy. It even offers dedicated buttons to access Netflix and Vudu on-line movie services.
HDMI CEC: HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (HDMI CEC) simplifies your home theater by allowing a single remote control to operate multiple devices through HDMI connection.
Oppo Remote Apps: Oppo offers two free Apps for controlling the BDP-105D with a compatible mobile device. The Oppo MediaControl app lets you completely control the player with your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Android device. The app lets you browse media libraries, control playback of media, and turn the player on and off. If you just need a simple remote control app without the media playback features, you can download the Oppo Remote app for iOS or Android devices. The Blu-ray player and your compatible mobile device must be connected to the same home network.
Note: The Blu-ray player may require a firmware update to be compatible.
External IR: The BDP-105D features a 3.5mm IR input. If the player is to be installed in an equipment cabinet where direct line-of-sight is not available for the remote control you can purchase an external IR Remote Sensor (sold separately) and plug it into the IR input. Then place the sensor head at a location where there is direct line-of-sight to ensure reliable operation.
RS-232C Port: The BDP-105D has an RS-232C control port and can be integrated into most custom home theater control systems.

Looking for versatile Blu-Ray player with inputs/outputs and high-level audio. I lost a lot of equipment through a lightning hit recently, and I think having the headphone output feature might save me having to buy another separate amplifier unit to enjoy my Sennheiser headphones during playback of classical music discs. Quality!!! [ Randy Jun 15, 2016 ]
I just bought a box set of Blu-ray and Audio CDs of the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle playing Beethoven's Symphonies 1-9. I wanted to get the most possible enjoyment out of these discs, and I saw my Sony Blu-ray player as the weak link in my system. This Blu-ray player should give me all the discs have to offer, and it has the bonus of offering online access to the Berliner Philharmoniker's streaming concert series (subscription necessary). Looking forward to it. [ Paul May 31, 2016 ]
The Oppo BDP-105D is one of the best electronic devices ever made. It will play every kind of audio cd, dvd's, and blu-ray discs. It also has a built-in pre-amp and can output to multiple channels. [ Donald May 19, 2016 ]

I was looking for a great birthday gift for my husband; he's hard to please when it comes to gifts, and he already has a fantastic 65 inch Samsung curved screen HDTV and Bose sound bar. He was thinking of getting a blu-ray/DVD/CD player, so (with the help of Parker), I decided on something that will surprise him - I hope this works. The flexibility of this player to handle multiple formats: SACD, Blu Ray, DVD Audio. It has all the latest Dolby decoding, HDMI outputs etc.. AND it also has a great DAC to play 2-channel music formats. Also I have a friend who spends excessive time researching, listening and reviewing various home theater gear and he bought one. I've seen his OPPO stream movies on a 65 inch screen and it is fantastic. [ Jeff Jan 07, 2016 ]

This is the Best Blu ray player I have ever owned, I have a 4k Sony xbr picture quality with the Oppo is excellent. Even now I am learning new things about the Oppo. [ Robert Jun 28, 2016 ]
Perhaps I'm not knowledgeable enough....I believe the oppo upscales to 4K already..I am using a 7 year old Samsung monitor..so I'm not seeing 4K.....the streamed images as well as Blu-ray and DVD are near perfect to my eyes ... the audio is awesome as well... [ Ronald Jun 28, 2016 ]
Depends. I have it, but Oppo has told me it can't be upgraded to 4K, so I'll probably be upgrading it when they come out with 4K compatibility. That said, it's awesome at what it does, so there you have it. I bought it 18 months ago; if I were looking now, I'd probably wait for 4K. [ Donald Jun 28, 2016 ]
I use mine for both CD & BR-DVD playback. Outstanding! Not a lot of 4K streaming now even with Netflix. Good questions are, how long till the 4K Oppo, will there be an upgrade for current units to 4K and how long are you willing to wait when it makes since to own a 4K Oppo. [ Scott Jun 28, 2016 ]
The one I bought had both balanced and unbalanced outputs for the surround sound signals. That was the main reason I bought it. The unit is built like a tank and has a great set of features. I purchased a rack mount kit and transport it around with a few other items for a portable HD projector system. I don't think I would buy a UHD disc player. The industry is moving away from mechanical playback devices. UHD content will be more available through streaming services. I would wait for Apple TV to come out with a UHD model (probably with 1 or 2TB of storage on a SSD) [ Jim Jun 27, 2016 ]

Yes it will play ALAC, FLAC WAVE and MP3 files. One thing to note is that the song file meet these properties. Sample Size not more than 24 bit Sample rate 44.1 Khz or 92Khz Bit rate 1,411 Kbps for CD quality Bit Rate 2,116 Kbps for DVD quality These files size will be large though, and can be up to 100Mbytes per song, but song playback quality is extraordinary and superb. Hope this answers your question. Thanks Joseph [ JOSEPH Feb 22, 2016 ]

I have played 4k Blu Ray Discs (Spiderman) on the player with no problems. [ M. Duane Jun 30, 2015 ]
I know the player will "upscale" to 4K output, but whether or not it accepts the physical disc and reads it, I'm not sure. Have you tried contacting Oppo Support directly ? I've heard they have excellent support, so try giving them a shot. Good Luck ! [ PAUL A Jun 30, 2015 ]
Oppo 105 does upscale to 4K resolution but is not Ultra HD Blu-ray, at least not at the moment. Only recently Blue-ray Disc Association announced that they completed work on the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format. Another thing is lack of support HDCP 2.2 the new standard for High- bandwidth Digital Content Protection [ MAREK J Jun 30, 2015 ]

Yes it is. Its built well, the picture and sound can't be beat [ MARK Jun 30, 2015 ]
Mine is. I was a little disappointed in that the 4k mastered blu-rays seemed to be the same as the upconverted video I was seeing, but maybe it has to do with my system. I only have a 100 inch screen. But they do play beautifully. I lost interest in that the extra I paid for 4k mastered did not seem to work for my set up. [ bruce Jun 30, 2015 ]
Not sure but would not surprise me if OPPO had a download to upgrade. [ HOWARD Jun 30, 2015 ]
Hi Ryan, The Oppo 105D does not have a turntable input (called phono input). To accommodate a phono input , that source needs to have a buit-in preamp due to record players very low volume. The only way to hook up a turntable and have full volume reproduction to speakers is through a preamp, amp or a surround receiver having phono inputs at the back. Thank You Joseph [ JOSEPH Mar 30, 2015 ]
I don't believe you can connect a turntable, or any analog source, to the Oppo as it only accepts digital inputs. [ PAUL A Mar 27, 2015 ]
Not that I'm aware of. Also what would be the purpose? [ JAMES Mar 27, 2015 ]
Sorry Ryan, my system doesn't have a turntable and I only connected the Oppo to my amp and my tv. I called Oppo directly to help me with some connectivity issues and their customer service was helpful. [ PETER Mar 27, 2015 ]
The Oppo doesn't have analog inputs so connecting a turntable will be challenging. You will need to use one of the digital inpits. Optical, coaxial or USB. Now if your turntable has a USB output you're in luck. Some of those turntables exist. Their main purposing is to allow someone to connect it to a computer and record their records to a digital format. If you don't have a USB you will need to convert to digital. Your turntable much have a built in or external phono stage. Many inexpensive turntables have this built in but not all. The phono stage allows you to connect to a standard analog input on a preamp, receiver etc. you would connect the analog out from the turntable to an analog to digital converter then connect either the optical or coaxial output to the Oppo. You can get an A-to-D convertor for about $100 give or take. The real question is why connect to the Oppo? You would be converting from analog to digital back to analog. It is the pure analog form of the turntable that makes it sound the way it does. By converting you would lose that. The Oppo will still need to be connected to an amplifier. A pure power amp requires a preamp to control the volume but the Oppo has a built in preamp section that would allow you to connect directly to a power amp. Then you could run the turntable through the Oppo and use it to control the volume. However if you are using a receiver or preamp you would do better to connect directly to it with the turntable and keep the signal analog the entire way. Hope that helps. [ John Mar 27, 2015 ]

I have played Flac files through the OPPO. it also plays DSD files and other high resolution files. [ Donald Jun 28, 2015 ]
I have used mine as a DAC, USB in to analog out. I've not tried USB to optical. Honestly, this seems like an awfully expensive way to convert USB to SPDIF optical, which isn't really a DAC function. If that's the only thing you want to do with the unit, you might try a Peachtree X-1 USB to SPDIF converter or something similar for about $250. There are a lot of USB to SPDIF converters for less money and that will take up less space. As a Blu Ray / CD / SACD player and DAC, you can't beat the Oppo. But if you are not going to use it as a player, I'd go with a converter instead. [ William May 14, 2015 ]
I have a two-channel system as well as used the digital optical input for my Squeezebox and the rear HDMI connection for my DVR. In essence, I treat my BDP-105 as one would a AV receiver with disc capability. As long as your computer has the proper connection, there is not reason why it shouldn't work as a high-end DAC. [ Theodore May 12, 2015 ]
Oppo has very helpful customer service people located in the US. Google their website to get the phone number and they will walk you through everything you need to know. [ Ralph May 11, 2015 ]
Yes, you can. I use my 105 as an external DAC, running an Auralic Aries music streamer with optical output into the Oppo. You have to use the remote control's Input selector to switch it to 'Optical Input'. Works beautifully! [ Tim May 11, 2015 ]
I am using the optical out for an audio output in my surround sound system and it is fine. It can do 2 channels as well. [ Jerry May 11, 2015 ]
The answer is yes, if I understand your question correctly. If the music is originating from the laptop, you can port it to the Oppo using either the optical digital input - OR - the USB (Type B) input. You would then turn on the Oppo; cycle through the 'Input' options with the remote control, and enjoy. [ James May 11, 2015 ]
Looking at the Sony HAPS1/B Hi-res player, it has a built in amplifier that you just have to connect speakers and just play HiRes music files. The Oppo can play those files (either networked to your computer or from a flash drive) plus it has all the video features and probably a better DAC, analog out, and power supply/transformer. The two different machines are really for 2 different applications. If you want a standalone High-resolution network music player get the Sony and add small speakers. If you want to incorporate High-resolution network music to an existing stereo/home theater get the Oppo (I have the Oppo and it's worth every penny). [ Michael Dec 17, 2014 ]
I have never touched the Sony device, so I cannot speak to it's exact capabilities, but as a general rule of thumb, my preference is to avoid devices with their own hard drives, and go with devices that can play things from many sources, so you aren't limited by the player. I do own, and love the BDP105D , and it will play nearly anything from anywhere. It streams music files (including HiRes flac and aaif) directly from my Windows PC, using Windows file sharing (which sounds noticeably better to me than streaming it via a DLNA server such as Windows Media Player). It can also stream via my Squeezebox server, from USB sticks, data files copied to a CD/DVD disc, plus every form of manufactured disc I've ever heard of. It is the most flexible device I've ever seen or used, bar none. One additional thing to consider, is the Oppo has digital and optical inputs on the back so you can connect another device (in my case my Squeezebox) so that you can pipe the digital outputs from that device in and then out through the Oppo's DAC, which can make a significant difference in sound quality. I heartily recommend the BDP-105D, it's a whole lotta player for the money if you are serious about your audio. And no, I don't work for Oppo. Just a very happy customer. [ BRYAN Dec 17, 2014 ]
That's a complex question because I do not own the Sony, just the Oppo. A Crutchfield advisor who knows both products is the one to ask. [ Ralph Dec 17, 2014 ]
For me, the USB route doesn't produce the sound quality I was looking for. I used an 8TB remote server connected to the OPPO via wifi and it is everything I was looking for. The sound quality of the digital files, hi-res, or otherwise seems to be better than the Blu-Ray playback route. If I'm going to play a CD, I use my Meridian. [ G PHILLIP Dec 16, 2014 ]
