Well built, trivial setup, works great - true plug and play. I'll buy another one as soon as I spot the need.
Absolutely outstanding product. Connection is lightning fast, consistently reliable even out on my patio 50+ feet from the base and through walls and doors. Rich, full sound spectrum. Worth the price.
On 21 May 2018 I received an Audioengine B1 Premium Bluetooth Music Receiver from Crutchfield. I hooked it to my Yamaha C85 preamp using the included stereo RCA left and right coaxial cable to its CD player rear panel jacks. I plugged it's small power supply into the AC outlet, turned on Bluetooth in my 128GB iPhone 6s, and selected Audioengine B1 in the IPhone's Bluetooth menu and in about 10 seconds the B1 paired to my IPhone 6s and music started playing through my 4 Klipsch Klipschhorn speakers through my Yamaha M85 power amplifier. This was the missing link that I've needed for over 2 years now so I can play my iPhone 6s' music library, that has 50.4 GB from my host ASUS Windows 7 laptop computer's iTunes library and 33.37GB of Apple Music downloads (for a total iPhone 6s music library of 83.6GBs). The sound was great coming it of the 4 Klipsch Klipschorn high efficiency horn speakers. The B1 also allows control of the Yamaha C85 preamp's volume control wirelessly through my IPhone 6s' volume control. The C85 preamp has only 0.001% Total Harmonic Distortion(THD), the M85 amp has only 0.002%THD. And the B1 Premium Bluetooth Receiver has only 0.02 THD. The M85 amp runs in Class A configuration up to 30 watts RMS output and sounds great like CD quality. I am so pleased now to have this missing link to connect my iPhone 6s wirelessly in CD quality sound to my old non-Bluetooth Yamaha preamp/amp.
Pros: Quick pairing to my iPhone 6s' Bluetooth connection, CD quality wireless Bluetooth sound, can play Apple Music downloads along with my existing iTunes library through my iPhone's music app. Volume can be controlled on my iPhone wirelessly.
Very happy had bought a cheaper version that did not work as well as what I bought from Crutchfield .
Awesome product for pool days ahead!
This thing is fantastic. I needed a way to.control volume of my outdoor atrium 8s. I had tried outdoor volume controls but they would.burn out due to the wattage. I am.running an old adcom 555 power amp. My audio.system is in the walk out basement. My house is built into.a hillside.and.is.a brick.ranch. Even with this I can controll my system with my tablet or phone bluetooth on my upper porch and.get great sound quality. I'm talking suprisingly good quality. Set up.and pairing easy. You may have to find the right input..took me a few.tries.to find the input.on my receiver that works.the best but other.than that very easy set up. Great product and.as.always Crutchfield costumer service is the best.
Pros: Great sound..easy set up..great range
Cons: Had to fund the right audio in that works.best but once I found it the device works superbly.
Wanted to add Bluetooth connectivity to an NAD AVR. Quick search on Crutchfield and the web turned up the Audioengine B1 as being a popular and well-reviewed choice. Setup was extremely simple; just wire it up, plug it in, and pair with the source. In our case this was a MacBook Air in the kitchen, and had Spotify streaming to the system in the adjacent living room in no time. Sound is impressive. Have not had any connection issues so far either, though have not yet used it for long enough stretches to be sure. The antenna on my unit was extremely stiff. Had I not read a review in which the user stated theirs broke off, I may have grabbed it closer to the tip to turn and wound up with the same result. May be different depending on production runs, but take care in adjusting the antenna and turn it at the base. Right-angle wall-wart is also not ideal in my situation, but may not make a difference in others. Would not expect an internal transformer at this price point, but a transformer brick with separate power cable would have been nice. Overall, this seems like a great value. Being able to add Bluetooth connectivity to any system, be it a modern home theater or vintage Hi-Fi is great. Plan on testing a Benchmark DAC 1 between the B1 and receiver to gauge the B1's DAC. Given the source, i.e., streaming over WiFi, I would not expect there to be much difference. The Audioengine B1 seems a worthwhile purchase and versatile audio component.
Pros: Super simple to set up. No connection issues (so far). Great sound!
Cons: BEWARE! Antenna may be tight. Be sure to turn at base, not tip. Right-angle wall-wart that is as likely to be inconvenient for some as convenient for others.
Works great. Very fast delivery. Have not been disappointed by any of my purchases from Crutchfield. My experience with Crutchfield is considerably better than BB.
The Audioengine B1 is exactly what I was looking for in a bluetooth receiver. It is simple to operate and it works. The sound is fantastic., you will not be disappointed.
Well made, Works great, LookS cool, a little pricy, but better than buying a new amplifier just to get BlueTooth.
Product works great but I can't use my Yamaha app with this so I still have to use the remote control
Pros: Sounds great
Cons: Does not work with my Yamaha app
Very great sound, easily connected, pairs with Bluetooth consistently... what's to not like?
If you are really into listening and appreciate the quality of your music through your stereo system and want good fidelity from your phone/PC's digital processed music format...get the Audioengine B1. It's pricier than some of the other products out in the market, but it's definitely worth the price if you are into your music.
Just what I needed to turn my old Hi Fi in to a modern receiver
Pros: Nice looking
Who knew that digital streaming audio from my iTunes account could sound this good?! Well, I do, that's who! Seriously, if you're worried about your digital audio not sounding as good as your records or CDs, worry no longer. I just received the B1 an hour ago, hooked it up, and streamed from my Macbook Pro to my NAD analog receiver with older Polk Audio speakers. And now, I'm rocking my iTunes catalog, and I can play my entire digital music catalogue and enjoy it as much as my CDs and LPs. And since the B1 has a built-in DAC, I don't need to run it through my other DAC to have it sound great. Analogue stereo in a digital world. Thank you, Audioengine! (And thank you, Crutchfield for again making everything fast and easy!)
Pros: Great sound, a snap to hook up, and connection worked flawlessly the first time.
Cons: The adapter for the electrical plugs had to be jammed on pretty tightly, and I was afraid I'd break the pins. But, it went on with some force, and didn't bend the pins a bit.
The audio engine B1 is an outstanding device. I have two other Bluetooth music receivers and they don't compare to this. I plugged it in and it was ready to go. I just went to my iPhone and touched the audio engine link and presto music was playing. I hooked it up to my old Klipsch forte speakers and couldn't believe the clairity of sound. This playing Apple Music and Pandora was better than CD quality. Was worth every cent of the added cost. The more music you play the better it sounds.
Pros: Best on the market after researching everything out there
Cons: NONE not even the price once you hear it.
Simple to use, long distance (building to building), great sound
After tons of research and reading reviews I purchased the Audioengine B1 and it does deliver. Easy to use.
Overall, great product! Does what I wanted it too! I can now through Bluetooth listen to my iTunes and satellite radio on my main room receiver that doesn't support this technology. Also, as usual, GREAT service from Crutchfield!
Pros: Setup is a breeze!
Cons: Haven't found any yet!
This unit works great and was easy to set up. I thought it was pricey but did not have anything else to compare. But it did resolve my issue to allow to play music to my to channel amp. All that matters I am Happy.
Pros: Solves devices that dont have bluetooth
Instantaneous setup. Excellent sound quality.
Better than I expected! Would definitely recommend.
Better than expected, I was hoping they had integrated Bluetooth 5 by this time so I called Audioengine to see if it was in the works but they would only say it comes with 4 at this time. Crutchfield said they tested it up to 100' and as usual they were fast to answer my call, friendly and knowledgeable. Mine works at least 50' away (as far as I've tried it) and it never skips a beat. No errant sounds or anomalies, the sound is as good as the sampling rate and the source, I can't detect anything lost in the Bluetooth transition. Easy to set up, now I can stream music or Pandora from the iphone, itunes on the PC, whatever. You'll spend a few more $ for this vs others but you'll be glad you did. Smaller than I expected (see the photo). Set it and forget it, I wish all Bluetooth devices and online companies behaved this well. Thank you.
Pros: Works as well as advertised, if not better. Glad I didn't settle for something cheaper with sketchy reviews.
Outstanding product! Has exceeded our expectations! Reward yourself, buy it!
Pros: 24-bit Audio Sounds amazing! Flawless connectivity Excellent range
The B1 was just as advertised. Crutchfield was very helpful with questions on payment. The B1 connected to the receiver very easily and the Bluetooth worked on the very first try. Have tried both phone and IPad and each worked great. My major concern was the sound quality--have been very pleased and understand it should improve with time. Good purchase.
Pros: Sound quality and ease of use
Cons: None. Only time will tell dependability.
Audio fidelity is comparable to a hard wired system. Connecting to my iPod and iPhone was simple and fast - as described in the instructions, but switching between the two has been frustrating. I assume one of the two sources has to have it's blue tooth inactivated for the B1 to connect to the other. Sometimes I have success only after pulling the power on the B1 and starting over - going through the initial connection steps. How to expeditiously switch between two sources, as well as quickly power off (verses engage reconnect), would be helpful.
Pros: Great sound justifies the price, no static, well constructed, is small and looks smart. Easy to initially connect and signal is strong even from another room.
Cons: Inconsistent success when switching back and forth between signal sources (maybe my lack of technical skill v. B1's).
love it so far....
Pros: very easy to install and easy to connect to with tthe phone...awesome range most of the time
Cons: the only con i can think of...the first few days we had it on everything worked great. but now a few times it seems like it wants to drop the music..not sure if its the blue tooth or the wi fi....
I use this in my 2012 BMW 135i connected to the aux input. I now have excellent BT audio via this device with uninterrupted phone BT(stock). Tasker provides a simple means for automating connect/disconnect based on the status of the existing in-car bt integration.
Pros: no battery (kaboom!) excellent sound quality speedy boot-up + connect simple operation
Cons: expensive "what is that thing?"
I have the B1 hooked up to my harman/kardon receiver located in my living room. There is lots to like about it - easy to hook up, great sound, small and compact, and great range: I can control it from just about anywhere in my 1,500 sq ft house. My complaints are twofold: pairing and the on/off switch. When pairing, the B1 shows up on my iPhone (6S) under BT devices, but it takes multiple attempts to connect and I often have to tell the phone to forget the device and start over. This often works. My other complaint is going to sound silly, but the on/off button is the worst part. I feel like I must be missing something. Simply pressing the button often does nothing and I have to hold it down to get it to turn on and get it into pairing mode; when shutting it off, just pressing the lit button does nothing, holding it down can get it back into pairing mode again and if I walk away from it, it will eventually shut itself off. I think I will have to contact support about this.
Pros: easy to hook up; small and compact; great range and sound
Cons: difficulty pairing; turning on and of
Excellent product. Easy to install, seamless and reliable bluetooth connection. Excellent sound.
Pros: Small footprint, consistent bluetooth connection, excellent sound.
Audioengine B1 is worth the extra cost. I was having trouble with Bluetooth cutting out when I got more than 30 feet away from my amp. Very annoying. This unit has never cut out--or jittered. I bet the range is well in excess of 75 feet. But, I was also worried about sound quality. This unit is superb. And it also pairs easily. You have to remember that a bluetooth unit also has a DAC--digital to analog converter. A lot of the units I have used have very poor sound quality. This one is awesome. This is more expensive, but if you care about distance and top class sound quality, this is your unit
Pros: All good
I bought this almost on a whim having purchased an integrated amp that did not have wireless capability. The idea to use bluetooth to send music from my "i-device" was very appealing based on how I was planning to use the amplifier (Marantz HD-AMP1). This product came recommended should one want a bluetooth connection. The price is a bit high but I was so happy I bought a second one. It is small, well-made, and has just the right features. The built-in DAC allows for audio R/L (RCA connectors--also higher end) but I can also send the bits directly into my amp with the optical link. The range is excellent (have used over at least 30 feet and it was even in the next room). I am skeptical of Bluetooth since pairing always seems problematic with the various accessories. However, I have yet to have any problems with these links--they happen fast and the user interface is blazingly simple. This is a great add even for my older Luddite completely-analog-amplifier stereo system when now paired with my digital music library.
Pros: Small Excellent Sound Reliable Bluetooth Link
Hooked up the Audioengine B1 out of the box and everything worked great and it sounds great. I have not tested the range of the Bluetooth signal yet as I use it in the same room as the amp.
Pros: Bluetooth connects fast and sounds great.
Works like a dream. Perfect way to repurpose traditional wired stereo speakers for a wireless world.
Easy setup and good performance the first two weeks. Good range so far, although not 100 feet through walls and floors. Don't know how much better than much less expensive models-- but have no regrets.
From the 1st note of music I heard a remarkable improvement in sound. In fact stunning compared to hard wired direct from my MacBookPro. It's all about the digital to analog converter.
Pros: High end audiophile sound and build quality.
Very happy with the B1,easy to set up.
Very easy to get up and running and provides good range. I used it for a few days with my IPAD Mini 4 which is not aptx capable and sound was good. I then Installed a AZIO Bluetooth 4.0 adapter with aptx in my laptop and WOW - sound rivals that of CDs. I then hooked it up to my NAD 565BEE CD player's optical input via TOSLINK and WOW+ - even more dynamic range. Sound seems to be improving with use which they said would happen. Can't wait till its fully broken in! Don't hesitate this is a quality item.
Pros: Capable of very good sound when using APTX technology via TOSLINK
Cons: None so far.
Works great with connecting my IPad to my stereo system via Bluetooth. Once you connect the two RCA plugs to the back of the receiver (an older Panasonic model connected to great Bose wall speakers), the process was very simple & straightforward. The sound quality is excellent. Primarily listen to music on Pandora & Spotify. Would buy product again.
Pros: Easy set up Sound quality excellent.
Cons: Been using this product for two weeks now- nothing comes to mind so far.
Great product. Have been using it for about a year with a high end stereo (McIntosh electronics + KEF speakers). Set up was painless. Have had absolutely zero problems. Stream internet radio, and Pandora. Sound quality is excellent. Well built. Buy one, you won't be disappointed!
Pros: Excellent sound. Easy set-up. High quality product.
Connects quickly and I've had no disconnects. I haven't measured the communication distance but I can say I have had my phone in my pocket and been at the opposite end of the house and upstairs and it hasn't disconnected. It hides away nicely behind a medium sized picture frame. I can't speak to analog sound reproduction quality as I think the poor quality compressed music files are the limiting factor. I'll try no loss soon to hear any difference. But I have no complaints for the current set up. This wasn't cheap and I assumed I would get what I paid for but is it significantly better than one at half the cost? I don't know. I didn't want to take the chance.
Pros: Long range, tenacious connection.
Cons: High price.
Range is very disappointing. About 5 feet. Sound quality is fine.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 1/24/2017 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to this customer to issue an apology and help him further. We'll either help him get this working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
This is a very nice product. The sound is really good. My one complaint is that it disconnects sometimes when I'm changing songs. Otherwise a very good product.
Pros: Very good sound
Cons: Disconnects sometimes when switching songs
Recently purchased and installed the Audioengine B1. We have a Bose theater system without Bluetooth capability and wanted to be able to be able to take advantage of both the large music library we have on our iPhones and and the sound quality of the Bose system. Installation of the Audioengine was extremely simple, the Bluetooth connection was seamless, and the sound quality is great. We are loving the ease with which we can listen to our music, which we do much more often now that its so simple.
This thing works great. The sound is good the range is good. Added Bluetooth capability to my older Denon 5308ci receiver. Highly recommended.
Pros: Works as described
Buy this and Spotify Premium and enjoy the magic. This is operating in a sweet spot of convenience and quality. I love Vinyl and CDs but when I want to discover new music or enjoy some favorites by simply surfing my phone, this product makes it sounds that much better. I was using airplay via Apple TV before. For my ears, this setup sounds better and never drops the signal.
Pros: Sound Build quality Range Reliability
Cons: On paper, $30 should get you a comparable product. Sometimes the best costs more :)
The Audioengine B1 turns your stereo amplifier or receiver into a Bluetooth capable device that communicates with your iPhone, iMac, or iPad. It allows you to remotely connect your stereo to the internet and control it. It has excellent range and quality of sound. The installation was quite easy. Just connect the output cables to your amplifier/receiver and plug it in. The B1 has a diode that will immediately start flashing, indicating that it is hunting for an internet connection. I then went into my utilities on my iPad Air and activated the Bluetooth option, and my iPad immediately found the B1 as a source. I chose the B1 and it connected without any problems. To control my stereo, I downloaded an apple app called "Simple Radio" and it operated like a charm with high quality reception allowing me to choose from an unlimited amount of internet sources from around the world. I also communicated with my iMac, which was in another room in my house to use music files from it. This is a well built and designed piece of gear and fully worth the price of $189.99
Pros: Easy to install and use, excellent audio.
Purchased this item over others due to distance advertised for Bluetooth. It did as advertised and works through walls and outside. I am using it on an old Pioneer Elite receiver for speakers outside and it works perfectly!
Pros: Distance traveled
I purchased the Audioengine B1 about two weeks ago and my experience with this product so far has been fantastic. The build quality out of the box was very impressive and setup was a breeze. I was a little skeptical about how the sound quality would be from a Bluetooth device but I was pleasantly surprised. I primarily listen to blues and jazz and have been streaming music only from YouTube so far and am very impressed with the sound quality. Bass is very tight and highs are clean and crisp. This device is a welcome modern addition to my twenty plus year old component system and I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants modern convenience and impeccable sound quality. The only issue I have had with this product is that the Bluetooth connection occasionally disconnects. Other than that a the B1 is a superior product.
Pros: Excellent build quality and ease of use
Cons: Occasional Bluetooth disconnect
Simple installation. Arrived on schedule. Links instantly with I Pad and I Phone. Vast improvement in sound quality over its predecessor.
Cons: none yet
Just a great and simple product. Connection took all of 4 minutes. Bluetooth connection was instant. Sound seems like direct wired source. Range is thru 3 rooms. Couldn't be happier. Highly recommend this
Pros: Simple connection. Instant Bluetooth connection. Good range. Great sound
Cons: None so far
audioengine B1 into tape 2 and have paired with my Iphone, Ipod touch, Mac computer. Have used Spotify free as a source and much CD music downloaded to the Apple devices mentioned. The sound thru my old school DCM Time Windows has been very nice at all volume levels. It allows enjoying music with my current equipment and these devices without hardwire and no compromise in sound.
Pros: small footprint and easy pairing of different devices
Cons: non so far-pretty happy with it
This is my son's Bluetooth Device. He has a smile on his face since we received it. He seem to be very happy. No complaints whatsoever. He told me that he loves the compact size just like the Audioengine D1 Headphone Amp that I purchased for my own use a while back. Nothing but clear sound coming from his Onkyo Receiver after he connected it and paired it to his Samsung Note 4 cell phone. Some of the best things do come in small boxes!
Pros: Small space occupancy; Beautifully made. Serves it's purpose exceptionally well.
The B1 is a great product and works as advertised! The sound quality is quite amazing. I opt'ed to utilize the digital output and the sound is nearly flawless. Set up was easy and after 10-15 hrs of use, the quality of sounds appears to have only improved. I am using my Galaxy S7 Edge to stream 95% of my music played via the B1. I use the B1 primarily for my outdoor speakers, which puts me usually 30-40 feet from the unit. The signal does have to travel through one concrete wall, which does limit the 100' advertised connection distance. After 40 feet....the connection can be hit/miss. Definitely worth the extra money over other units!
Pros: Sound Quality, ease if use, easy set up,
Perfect right out of the box. Used for my high end 2 channel system. Internet radio never sounded so good!
Ordered the B1 to allow wireless play of smart phones to my HiFi stereo system (Denon SACD - Rega Elex-r - Klipsch RP 280 towers); pleasantly surprised how well the music sounds, and how easily it was to put into operation. Very nice product, with a commendable DAC in a small package...
Pros: Sound Quality; Ease of operation
Cons: Only con was watching the product go on sale for $40 less days after purchase! :-)
I was looking for a way to bring Bluetooth to my Mid-Century Modern house's vintage NuTone music/intercom system, and after reading the reviews of the Audioengine B1 as compared to the other units, this seemed like the only solution. I am happy to report that it works wonderfully! As the NuTone is a mono unit I needed to purchase a Y splitter for the single RCA jack, but otherwise hookup was a snap. The sound quality is far superior to the FM stations I was only able to use previously. I guess my only complaint is the price- especially while typing this review I see it is now $40 cheaper!
Pros: Sleek design, great sound.
Cons: Pricey but at least I didn't go the cheap way and be disappointed.,
great improvement from the previous adapter from both sound quality and the distance capability.
Pros: extended range improved sound quality
Excellent Bluetooth streamer. Pairs easily and has very good Bluetooth range. Very good build quality. Right out of the box it sounded good but sound improved significantly after about a 20 hour break in.
Pros: Easy pairing, good range, sound is remarkable, especially with aptx enabled device.
It's easy to use and sounds great.
Pros: sounds great, easy to use, does one thing well.
Cons: No volume knob, No built in amp to run headphones. cost
It is simply the best quality Bluetooth receiver to connect to a component audio system I have encountered after trying several models in the sub $60 price range.
Pros: Long Range, Sound Quality, Build quality (fit & finish)
Cons: It costs 3 to 4 times many other models
The Audioengine B-1 was a breeze to set-up, flawlessly connects to bluetooth devices. Range is better than expected. It Just Works!
Works almost intuitively, sets up like any BT item I've ever used. The range is impressive and the sound is great.
This Bluetooth receiver by Audioengine does just what they promise, it works up to 100'. Plus, it is very easy to sync with your Bluetooth device. I plan on ordering another unit for a second home.
Pros: Great range, easy set-up.
I tried a cheaper one, but having an on-board DAC makes a huge difference. It sounds like you're playing it through a wire. amazing!
I purchased this bluetooth device for my NAD 356DAC. The streaming quality from my MAC or iPhone is very good quality using spotify or CD's that I have ripped to my library. The audioengine internal DAC is top notch and I have not been disappointed. The range is as advertised and I have not run into any problems with gaps in music due to lack of range. The unit is small and almost out of site. Pairing the device is extremely easy and instant. The device turns off shortly after you disconnect via bluetooth on your phone or computer. The wires come out the back so it does not look ugly. The only area I have found a bit of a problem is using iTunes. Some of the recordings are a bit rough at the upper frequencies. I think this is due to iTunes streaming quality since the system sounds incredible when using ripped CD's or spotify set to high quality. Also, I still see some of the high frequency distortion using iTunes when bypassing the audioengine B1 by connecting my laptop to the DAC on the NAD amplifier via a usb cable, (speakers are Klipsch RB61 II). I am giving the device 5 stars due to the streaming quality from a high quality source , and sleek design, not an eyesore.
Pros: Excellent streaming quality, sleek design, not an eyesore.
Audioengine makes quality products and the B1 is no exception. It works great and connects without any issues. It's expensive but worth it.
Pros: Excellent sound quality. Connects quickly and has a great range. Solid build quality.
Cons: Expensive but you get what you pay for.
This Bluetooth receiver exceeded my expectations. I am able to easily connect either my iPhone, iPad and iMac to my receiver without a loss of sound quality. The iMac is even on the other side of the house (approximately 120 feet away). The unit is extremely easy to set up and never loses the signal. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Pros: Easy to set up Good sound quality Great signal strength throughout the house Quick connection/pairing between devices
DAC even made major difference in streaming services ( SiriusXM at 320 Kbps and Spotify at 160 Kbps). Also filters out unmusical noise in streaming services. Very good product.
Pros: Bluetooth pairing/connection is instantaneous.
This item although a little expensive, totally "rejuvenated" an updated my 42 year old stereo system..! It allowed me to add "bluetooth" technology between my iMac computers iTunes, and my much loved stereo..! Sounds Great again at last...
Pros: The Sound quality...!
Cons: Price, but I guess it's still true "you get what you pay for"..!
This bluetooth receiver is better than the Peachtree Bluetooth receiver I used to use. Very happy with this purchase
Pros: Quality build Good bluetooth signal strength
Fantastic product! Very easy to set up, and delivers excellent sound. I have a Yamaha R-S700 receiver (no built in BT), so this was necessary to play music from my iPad & iPod (HP laptop also). Connected to receiver through line 3. So far, no interference issues with ANY of my electronics. A bit more expensive than similar items, but quality is outstanding, and it's metal...not some cheap plastic.
Pros: Ease of setup Sound quality No dropouts, static, etc., etc.
Cons: Price a bit high, but if you want quality, you'll pay a bit more.
I bought this so I could stream music from my iPhone and MacBook Pro at home. After doing a good bit of research I chose this unit based on its price and aptX compatibility. I have it connected to my integrated amp via its rca outputs and included rca cable. Honestly I had really modest expectations with respect to sound quality. I have a pretty nice hifi system at home and I decided to purchase this for convenience and not "serious listening". Boy was I pleasantly surprised when I heard it. Sound quality is fantastic. Obviously the onboard converter is high quality because any streaming audio artifacts are pretty much non-existent. High end is smooth and not brash and low end is surprisingly punchy. I haven't even paired it with an aptX device yet. If sound quality is even better with aptX I'm going to be even more blown away. Bluetooth pairing was also very simple and straight-forward. I'm very impressed and pleased with this purchase.
Pros: Amazing sound quality, easy to get up and running, solid construction, compact size.
Cons: None that I can find!
I give it 4 stars to begin. I had difficulty connecting, and keeping connected, the first unit with my laptop running Windows 10. The B1 worked well with an iPhone, but not the laptop. I talked with Audioengine Technical Support to learn how the B1 was supposed to operate. (I have had an Audioengine AW-2 wifi unit for iPhone that has worked flawlessly for 5 years.) Audioengine Technical Support has been excellent. They took the time to explain the B1 operation in detail and answered all my questions. I continued to have issues with laptop connectivity. Audioengine sent me a replacement B1 and a prepaid shipping label to return the original unit. The replacement B1 has worked very well out of the box. I will further test the B1 with the laptop under several different conditions. If the replacement unit continues to work as well as it has initially, I will raise the rating to 5 stars.
Pros: Works with laptop as well as iPhone. Sound quality is very good. Performs much better than any other Bluetooth device that I own. Compact size is easy to transport. Audioengine Technical Support experience has been excellent. Crutchfield 60 day trial period is twice what others offer.
Cons: Initial unit worked properly with iPhone, but not with laptop running Windows 10. (Replacement unit has worked properly with laptop and iPhone.)
The Audioengine B1 works exactly as promised. It pairs quickly and easily with the device of your choosing. Haven't really tested the range but, at 30 feet, it is seamless. And the DAC works great. My MP3 and flac files have never sounded so good. I am extremely happy with the B1 and would highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to pay a little extra to ensure their digital music sounds as great as is can.
Pros: Delivers as promised: Seamless bluetooth and exceptional audio quality via the DAC.
Cons: Not really a con, but just note that the B1 does not turn off unless/until you unpair it from your device.
I am using this with an ONQ abus system, it replaced my ipod dock and now I am able to use my Bluetooth ipod/iphone to control the music. Range is awesome.
While it is not the last word in detail and fidelity it is amazingly good for bluetooth and the price - better than many DACs I have tried that cost as much or more and far more convenient and versatile, Highly recommend
Pros: Can use multiple devices with it wirelessly and very good sound
Cons: For what it is - none
The Audioengine B1 is exactly what I was looking for. I hooked it up to a set of powered Klipsch speakers in a loft area and they work great. The range is very good and the DAC send an accurate sound reproduction (as good as you can get with Blutooth, in any case) to the amplified speakers. You can find less expensive Blutooth receivers to use, but they won't be as high quality in build and performance. The Audioengine B1 is worth the cost.
Pros: Very high quality build, works flawlessly
Cons: None found to date
Out of the box it was super easy to set up and worked with no hassle. The range is impressive and works through walls (although not the 100 ft), but still for bluetooth its impressive. Imagine sitting outside with friends, DJ'ing the sound track from your chair and then passing the ball to your buddy so he/ she can take over. It's a party hit! Everyone loves it and it works the first time, every time. Thank you to the Crutchfield team for first trying to steer me towards a lesser expensive model, but then after they fully understood what I wanted they said the Audio Engine was the way to go. They were right !
Pros: All good things to say
This thing does exactly what it's supposed to. I've used it every day since I opened it. Perfect for a phone or laptop, just walk around the house doing chores while listening to your favorite podcast or album. Long range.
Pros: It works perfectly.
Cons: I have yet to find a problem with this item.
This Bluetooth device is pretty impressive in the sound quality department. It puts out a stronger and cleaner audio signal than I had with an Aux cable. Easy to connect to and set up, and the range on this thing is absurd - in a good way. Comes with gold-plated RCA cables.
Pros: Awesome sound quality Incredible range
Cons: Little pricey
Have used this for a month now and the connection has always been immediate for any device I pair. Return connections are automatic and the device wakes up. No hassles and sound is very good. I am using the onboard DAC. The digital out is also convenient if you have another DAC that you prefer.
Pros: Sounds great, easy to set up, great range, establishes connection to multiple different devices (one at a time).
Cons: One of the higher priced options but worth it if your connecting to quality equipment.
The immediate impression is build quality, which is exceptional. While small in size, the case is "beefy". Sound quality is quite good - definitely a step above traditional Bluetooth speakers and getting very close to audiophile sound.
Pros: Solid build quality, easy to use.
I used to listen to Pandora and Spotify from my smartphone using a cheap bluetooth. It was ok but not what I expected. Now with the B1, wow what a difference.Pure neat sound.Worthwhile every penny I spent in this little guy.
Pros: Small, great sound, easy to install.
Cons: I would say it's a little overpriced but,you get the satisfaction of a great product and audiophile's standard.
Extremely easy to connect, high quality audio connection, no static
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: 100ft range is a stretch. Pushing to get 50ft thru two walls.
The first thing you'll notice about this Bluetooth receiver is its weight. Meaning, unlike more Bluetooth receivers, it has some weight to it. It seems solidly built with a metal case and quality gold plated connectors on the back. The sound is amazing for a product of this type. I got a "dents and dings" version and it looks and functions perfect. The range is far superior to other Bluetooth receivers, although it doesn't quite reach the one room I wanted it to reach (I think part of the problem is the adapter in the associated computer). It hasn't buffered once during use. I only gave it four stars because of the price.
Add-On Bluetooth Music Receiver: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver enables wireless connection of your Bluetooth-enabled devices (such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows PC, Mac computer, etc.) to your home entertainment system. Now, you will be able to listen to music files and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled devices on your home stereo system (your home system must have a free stereo analog RCA input or optical digital input).
Bluetooth Version 4.0: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver features Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP support, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio (including stored music and music apps) from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home entertainment system. You will continue to control your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver .
aptX Compatible: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver supports aptX audio coding, which is featured on a growing number of Android mobile devices as well as MacBooks and Apple desktop computers. aptX allows audio to be broadcast wirelessly in significantly higher quality than over standard Bluetooth. The aptX codec achieves a 4:1 compression ratio, allowing for near-CD quality listening (16-bit/44.1kHz). You'll instantly notice more extensive dynamic range, deeper bass, and crystal-clear top end.
Note: The Bluetooth B1 also includes support for other codecs like SBC, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AAC.
24-bit Upsampling DAC: The B1 features high signal-to-noise ratio due to the inclusion of a 24-bit high-performance upsampling DAC (AKM AK4396).
Extended Range: The B1 also has special circuitry and a precision-tuned antenna to extend the wireless range (up to 100'), providing much more versatility than other Bluetooth receivers.
Analog & Digital Outputs: The AudioEngine B1 is fitted with both a stereo RCA analog output and a optical (toslink) digital output to connect to your home AV receiver or integrated amplifier.
LED Indicator: The B1 Bluetooth receiver features a single LED to indicate operation status. If it's on and solid, this means the B1 is powered on and currently connected to a Bluetooth enabled device. If it's on and blinking, this means the B1 is powered on but not currently connected to a device. If it's off (and plugged into power), this means the B1 is powered off (standby) and not connected to a device.
Power Requirements: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver operates off of standard household current using the included external AC power supply or can be powered from a 5V USB port on back of your home receiver (cable included).
Note: The B1 automatically powers down and mutes the output after approximately 10 minutes. The BT input, however, is still active so you can just pair to it again without pressing the front-panel button. B1 will remain on if a device is paired with it and turned on though.

Good reviews online in several websites. I wanted a good/Hi-Fi Bluetooth receiver for my Integra/Paradigm system set up. It was the best value. The Arcam ones is good as well but it is $250 and the sound difference seems to be not so much. [ Pierre Apr 18, 2018 ]

I chose this product because I wanted the ability to listen to Pandora through my high end stereo system with the least amount of sonic compromise possible within a tight budget. WANTED AN AUDIOPHILE GRADE BLUETOOTH ADAPTER WITH OPTICAL OUTPUT FOR MY PREAMP/PROCESSOR. [ WILLIAM Dec 07, 2015 ]
Hi, I am not sure I understand your question. The Audioengine B1 is connected to the input such as AUX on your receiver. It needs to receive a Bluetooth signal from a source. For example I use my iPad to get programming from the internet. The Audioengine then picks up what I have chosen and feeds it to the receiver. Your Bluetooth headphones would link directly to the iPad. I do not think the Audioengine would be involved. [ JOHN Mar 29, 2018 ]
Not really sure if it works in reverse like that [ STEVE Mar 26, 2018 ]
I don't think so. This device is a receiver, not a transmitter. It's purpose is to connect, via bluetooth, a source of music, such as your smartphone or a tablet, to your hifi system. [ Glenn Mar 25, 2018 ]
I do not know, but I think not. The audioengine B1 is a Bluetooth receiver , not transmitter . Your wireless Bluetooth headphones should have a receiver built into it to receive signals from your smartphone or whatever. If you instruct your smartphone to connect to your wireless headphones you should be able to hear Pandora Etc music . The audioengine B1 is also a receiver and when you instruct your smartphone to connect to it it receives the Pandora music and plugs it into your vintage receiver by way of RCA pin plug cables , so you can hear it on speakers . If you plug ordinary headphones into your receiver you can hear the music through those headphones. To get music from your vintage receiver to your Bluetooth headphones I think you need a audio to digital converter that also transmits Bluetooth and hook that to your receiver. Hope this helps. I do not own Bluetooth headphones so I cannot test for you. [ Alann Mar 17, 2018 ]
This is a receive only device - we use it with a Mp3 player (iPod, iPhone, Samsung phone) sending a Bluetooth audio file to a amplifier input is how I use it. It does work great we get over 75 feet distance to our built in home stereo speaker system. [ Cliff Oct 16, 2017 ]

Yes, unfortunately, there is. You will notice a difference between video on computer and audio. But, if you're just looking to connect to a good set of older speakers and don't care about syncing with laptop (i.e., video), then it works great. Good luck. [ Scott Oct 06, 2017 ]

This unit is designed for home use, and I don't know of anyone using one in a vehicle. Technically it should be possible, but you will still need to provide power to the unit. You might be better off to take a look at these car Bluetooth adapters here: http://www.crutchfield.com/g_324750/Bluetooth-Adapters-for-Any-Car.html?tp=8395 [ Jeff May 29, 2015 ] Staff
According to Audioengine's web site's Q&A: What if my source doesn't support aptX®? Can I still use B1 and if so, how will it sound? You can absolutely still use the B1, and it will sound great. aptX® is a high quality Bluetooth audio codec that works really well. With that said, in addition to mandatory support for SBC, Bluetooth also includes optional support for many other codecs, like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AAC, all of which have their own advantages, and some of which sound very close to aptX®. With that said, there is a good chance that your audio data will be transmitted to the B1 without getting encoded to SBC. Unfortunately, I don't know how it can be verified.
