Our take on the Arcam rDock-uni by Crutchfield's Ralph Graves
A dock for audiophiles
Get the highest quality audio from your Apple portable with the Arcam rSeries rDock-uni. The dock's Lightning connector is compatible with the latest generation iPhone, iPad, iPad mini® and iPod touch®. When connected, the dock bypasses the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) inside your player, and feeds pure, unprocessed digital data to its own built-in high-performance DAC, which provides more accurate, musical sound.
The rDock-uni has a pair of RCA analog stereo outputs, so you can plug it into your home theater receiver or desktop speaker system and enjoy great sound. Does your system already have an outstanding DAC of its own? Then use the rDock-uni 's coaxial digital output to send the signal straight to your outboard DAC.
An important part of the Arcam ecosystem
The rDock-uni comes with its own remote, which lets you play, pause and skip tracks from your connected Apple portable. You can use the rDock-uni with the Arcam Solo Mini compact stereo receiver, making it even more versatile. Or couple it with the Arcam SonLink DAC for Sonos®. Both of these devices let you control the rDock-uni through their own remotes.
The rDock-uni's power adapter has a USB plug, so you can either connect it to a wall outlet, or connect it to your computer via a USB port. This also lets you sync your docked player.
A USB port in the dock lets you connect older 30-pin Apple portables to the rDock-uni. Just use your portable's charging cable. You'll be able to recharge your older iPod, iPhone, or iPad through the port.
Very easy to set up. I-phone 5 Connected to a NAD pre-amp produced better sound than using a RCA connector from headphone outlet. Great sound while streaming through a Bose wave radio. Construction feels solid.

Digital Dock for Apple Devices: The Arcam rDock-uni is an external add-on dock for iPod, iPhone, and iPad which can be connected to your home stereo system via analog stereo RCA or digital coax. The rDock-uni supports audio playback, remote control, and charging of your docked Apple device. It features a Lightning dock and USB port to connect your Apple devices.
- Lightning Connector Dock: The Arcam rDock-uni features a top-panel Lightning dock to connect newer Apple iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices with a Lightning connector.
- USB Port: For older 30-pin connector iPods, iPhones, and iPads; the rDock-uni is fitted with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port. Simply use the cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone/iPad to the rDock-uni's USB port.
IR Remote: The Arcam rDock-uni comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of your connected iPod, iPhone, or iPad. While the remote has several additional buttons, in our tests only the Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track commands were functional. You can continue to operate your iPod/iPhone/iPad from its clickwheel or touchscreen. The remote is powered by a single CR2025 3V coin-type lithium battery (included).
Apple Device Compatibility Chart: The Arcam rDock-uni is "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad" compatible and supports the following iPod, iPhone, and iPad model features (as of 12/17/2013):

3 questions already asked
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Arcam rDock is made specifically for Apple products. It has the Lightning connector for newer iPod/iPhones and it has a USB port that works for older iPods/iPhones. However this USB port will not work for a laptop or computer unfortunately. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Feb 22, 2015 ] Staff
