Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered sub

This compact sub delivers strong bass without taking up much space.

Big bass from this tough little sub

A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered subwoofer

The molded ABS enclosure houses a 125-watt amp and a tough little 8" sub.

Good design helps

The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.

Perfect in every way..

Great Bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great bass from a compact unit, I'm really impressed with the sound from this unit. A very nice compliment to the 4 new Rockford Fosgate P1683's that replaced my factory speakers.

Pros: Fits easily under the rear seat of my super crew cab. Able to control the subwoofer from my Kenwood DPX502, no real need for the remote bass control.

Cons: None

Compact Unit With Huge Crisp Bass!

Joey from Austin, TX on 2/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed my Sound Ordnance powered subwoofer under the driver's seat of my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. What a world of difference it made! I previously called upon Crutchfield, and upgraded my front and overhead sound bar speakers (Polk Audio), and a new Sound Ordnance amp. The upgrade made an amazing difference. Adding the subwoofer simply completed my vision for a bold, yet crisp sound! I would have had to pay at least 3x the amount of money to get this same sound quality with any other brand. Why shop anywhere else?

Pros: Best sound quality for the money! Reliable performance. Easy to install.

Cons:

I really did not have anything to compare this sub to, so the four stars. But DANG! This is the first sub I have had the pleasure to install in one of my vehicles. I usually have the factory set ups. At full bore, this little sub will vibrate the entire cab of my crew cab. Being a bit older I had to turn the sub down. Very impressed. Nice compacted unit fit under the back seat. Good for the cost.

Paul from Columbus, IN on 2/6/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like this sub. Great size, great rating, great price, but at the end of the day, the sound Quality wasn't all that great. I'm a bass player so maybe I'm a little biased, but this thing sounded "cheap". The low end was muddy, boxie and sounded unbalanced, no matter how I adjusted the sub. It reminded me of a "Sparkomatic" sub I had years ago. This was connected to a Kenwood DDX9903 via high grade RCA cables from the sub output so the input signal was clean. I had high hopes for this but ended up sending it back trading it in for the Kicker 11HS8. That's a great little sub. If you have a hang up for extremely good sound quality (not just quantity), keep looking.

Pros: Good Price Main Unit seems well Built Easy Installation

Cons: Cheap Sounding Low End (Muddy, Boxie) Sound shaping adjustments makes little difference. Wire Remote feels cheap.

Perfect sound for me!

Todd from San Francisco, CA on 2/5/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy with my Sound Ordnance sub/amp combo! I've got it tucked into the right side of the back hatch area of a 2007 Honda Fit. It is solidly mounted and has a large open air space in front of the speaker. The sound is excellent, it has a good clean punch to it, and it really does kick! It's not a whole car throbbing kind of bass, but it can get pretty deep, and loud and still sounds clear. I have it paired with Focal 130-AS component speakers in the front doors, which are powered by a 75 watt per channel JL amp. The Focals have a good range, and can play deep tones with clarity, and the Sound Ordnance fills in perfectly. The two work well together. I couldn't be happier!

Pros: Excellent sound Integrated system makes hook-up easy

Cons: nada!

Great pounding bass

Gary from Palmdale, CA on 1/31/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was very easy to install under the front passenger seat. Would have fit under the driver seat but would rather have it further away. The sound is amazing and added a lot more bass to my factory speaker system. Includes a wired remote volume knob that I installed under the dash on right side of steering wheel. Once I got the volume set how I like it, I've had no need to adjust. But it's there if I need to. Called Crutchfield technical support with a question on connecting the blue remote wire to the head unit and wiring harness. The response was quick and questions were answered immediately and correctly.

Pros: Great bass addition; easy to install

Cons: None

Great Bass. Easy setup

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used w/pioneer head unit and stock speakers in a 2001 tacoma. This thing is amazing! Rocks my sons truck. Easy hook up, fits under seat, easy setup to tune bass to car. Sounds like a much bigger setup than it is. Will be getting another for my dodge ram.

Pros: Amazing sound for such a small package

Cons: None.

Surprised. After reading some of the reviews I was a little unsure about this subwoofer. I eventually gave it a chance and bought it and I must say I'm so satisfied with it. Great bass boom just what I needed. Not to mention easy install.

Pros: Easy install. Great bass boom

Cons: None at all

Despite a shakey installation, Sounds Great

Kyle from Aurora, IL on 1/26/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was not quite as easy as I would have liked, as the instructions provided were unfortunately severely lacking in detail. Part of the installation hassle was also due to my vehicle (2002 Dodge Intrepid) being a pain to work around, but that's not the fault of the subwoofer. Once I did get everything secured and connected properly, however, I couldn't have been more pleased with the sound that this little guy produced. It is a terrifically hearty subwoofer for it's size and will provide a very satisfying kick to an already good system. Tweaking the EQ knobs is necessary to acquire the potential of the sub, but it doesn't take more than a few tries to get the bass where you'd like it. It's also very easy to place where-ever you like, and takes up very little space. A great subwoofer for it's price.

Pros: Accurate, tight bass reproduction. Great price/quality ratio. Small, light, takes up little space.

Cons: Installation manual is borderline unhelpful. Requires quite a bit of extra wires (which can be purchased separately here on the site).

Loved it... for a day... but seems to have component quality issues

Todd from Franklin, TN on 1/25/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was so excited to install this sub in my 17 Accord. Used the line level inputs and tapped the connector directly behind the head unit, soldier with heatshrink... the works. When I first turned on the audio, sound started flowing from the car speakers and the sub's red power light came on... yea! But hey... no sound... what the heck? Powered off, back on .. red light comes on but still no sub activity. Crank it to 75% and still not sub. So while the car audio is on, I pull the fuse from the sub body and pop it back in.. and now we are rockin! I think, ok... weird... but ok. Well not so much. Randomly, some trips, the sub refuses to come one, and some it will. I don't by the response that some audio systems are not powerful enough to trigger it. The power light does come on. I pulled the fuse again and reinserted, at a point in that process I felt it come one.. but still no permanent fix. Very disappointing because when it was working, it was the perfect compliment to the factory Accord audio. I was in love for a day... too bad.

Pros: Perfect compliment to factory Accord audio Nice tidy under seat fit Sweet price for the sound performance Cool remote - installed nicely in blank accessory slot next to econ button.

Cons: Intermittent operation Poor component quality, Guess you get what you pay for.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had a problem with using this with a low powered factory head unit which couldn't be replaced with an aftermarket unit (Infiniti integrated dash) Crutchfield tech dept was right there to help! The problem was solved with an inexpensive line out transformer in the signal input line. All that said, this little sub is GREAT! Wife says there's lots of BoomBoom in her ZoomZoom! I was able to install this underseat sub under the back deck AND was able to reinstall the trunk partitions! Looks great!

Pros: Fantastic bass addition for minimal bucks! Small enough to fit just about anywhere. All in one compact package.

Cons: You'll be hooked on sound improvements....may lead to massive cash outlay!??

Nice little upgrade to get some thump. It won't vibrate the coffee at the red light but does give a nice boost to the low end of your system. The only down side is that the adhesive behind the metal face (both ends) isn't bonding. It continues to lift of the unit....but....nothing a little superglue can't fix!

Great sub!

Jordan from Woodstock, GA on 1/15/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was exactly what I was looking for. The sub fits easily under the driver's seat of my '06 Mazda 3 (plenty of room on the sides with approx. 1" to spare above). I needed pro assistance in running the power wire through the firewall, but was able to do the remaining wiring myself. The sub sounds perfect (very loud and still clear) with my system. I have 40W RMS Pioneer door speakers plus Infinity tweeters all running through a Kenwood head unit -- no amp -- (all purchased through Crutchfield). It's not a competition system, but is very good and the subwoofer sounds great and has the ability to completely overpower it. It provides a great low end with more than enough punch in my small car.

Pros: High expectations - met all of them.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing was the perfect solution for my needs. Easy install in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ. I have the Sahara model with flip forward seats. It will NOT fit under them. After reading some reviews saying that's where they put theirs. They must have the standard seats. I mounted it in the back cargo (if you can call it that) space. Paired it with a Kenwood deck and I'm amazed at how great they sound. The remote is awesome for quick tuning for different genres. I listen to everything from Alice in Chains to Johnny Cash to Eminem. Just a twist of the knob and it's dialed in. I installed everything, deck/sub by myself in about an hour and a half. It would have been nice to have a hand pulling the power wire through the firewall but I managed. ???? to Sam my Crutchfield advisor for recommending this set up. I also recommend Crutchfields pre wired harness. This service rocks. When I ordered my system Sam mentioned this and what I time saver. They even opened the amp wiring kit and connected the necessary wires for it. #crimpingainteasy written on the package. You're going to have to buy a new harness anyway, why not let the professionals do it right the first time for $20 all included. If you want that full sound that makes the music come alive, buy this thing. You will not be sorry you'll wish you'd done it sooner.

Pros: Incredible sound Easy install All in one

Cons: Doesn't fit under Jeep TJ flip forward seats.

This subwoofer offers very good bass sound for the money and for its small size. It fit nicely behind the passenger seat of my MGB roadster, and it was fairly simple to install. The included remote control knob is very convenient for making quick adjustments of the desired bass level, particularly when mixing various artists and genres.

Pros: Very good sound for size and price. Convenient remote level control.

Fills in the lows reasonably well. I would prefer a 10 inch sub in this overall size but that is asking a lot. This provided the largest speaker that I could fit under the front drivers seat of our 2013 Subaru Outback.

Pros: Compact.

Cons: Frequency response could be a little better. I would expect an 8" to go down to closer to 30hz.

Installed in my 2015 CRV with previously had an underwhelming system. This is such a large improvement, I can't believe I didn't do it earlier! I used the line-level inputs with the stock stereo and upgraded front speakers. The remote level control installed wonderfully in an existing switch location, everyone thinks it looks stock! Good sound improvement for a great price. Thanks for another great shopping experience Crutchfield!

Great specs, great price, but 2 in a row did not work. I'm out.

Jim from Poughkeepsie, NY on 12/21/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like this unit- Good specs, decent reviews the right size and seemingly well made. Unfortunately, two in a row were confirmed to not work with speaker level inputs despite the stated ability for such. Voltage readings were taken on both incoming power and speaker level power and all were normal, yet neither would turn on. They did, however, turn on when tested with RCA line level inputs coming from an old stereo. Unfortunately, in my application I do not have RCA inputs, so.......... On the plus side, Crutchfield was honest- they said a number of these units need a surprisingly high level of speaker signal to turn them on. After a discussion with the Rep., we agreed on an Alpine unit, which although twice the price appears to also be twice the quality. Fine by me. If your unit turns on and you're OK with the sound then by all means get one. For me, however, the quality just isn't there. Vividly illustrates why I've bought from Crutchfield for 30+ years. Never the cheapest, but great customer service.

Pros: - Price - Size - Specs - Crutchfield support

Cons: - Multiple defective units - Tendency to require ridiculously high speaker levels to turn on

nice compact subwoofer, relatively high wattage

Dan from Huntington Beach, CA on 12/12/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this on Black Friday sale. I've never owned a subwoofer, but have watched online videos on what was needed to install before my purchase. I had purchased an installation kit from a box store about a year ago. The manual for the subwoofer states that it requires 10 gauge wire, the kit I purchased had an 8 gauge wire, and it did fit nicely. I wanted to install the subwoofer under the seat of my '94 Tercel, but it turns out the seat has in indentation towards the middle that prevents the subwoofer from fitting in. So then I had to mount it in the trunk, I cut a piece of plywood, and attached the subwoofer between the plywood, and the back of the back seat. I spray painted black the trunk side of the plywood. I pulled the power wire on the passenger side, and the signal wires on the driver's side. I pulled the remote wire under the center console. All in all the installation wasn't so bad, as the car itself is pretty simple without a lot of paneling etc. Now, for testing, I turned it on. And. Nothing. Pulled out the voltmeter, and the voltage was there, but no sound! The fix was that I had to put the slide switch to the right position!! But I still wasn't hearing much base! So what I ended up doing, I turned the subwoofer controls to the maximum, and I'm now using the remote to control the base level. I never had to turn it all the way up! So I'm very happy and pleased with the subwoofer, and next time it goes on sale I will most likely purchase one more!

Pros: small and compact, relatively high wattage compared to competitors, nice sounding!

Cons: n/a

Luscious sound stage

Nelson A from Miami, FL on 12/11/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought wholly on the recommendation of Crutchfield experts, the B-8PTD does everything that was recommended and then some. The sound stage created inside my cabin is thick and luscious, effortlessly communicating all my music's details in full glory. Unfortunately, the only bad thing about getting this unit installed is that it now shows me how poor my music files are.... since anything that is of mediocre quality will not be hidden by the system with this unit. I am very happy with the product.

Pros: power, definition, control and overall reproduction of sound feed.

Steve from Frederick md. on 12/8/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It' actually pretty good for its size. Mine is in the trunck of my Altima. So, I am loosing some effect due to that. So with that configuration I get a medium amount of low bass to supplement the music. I like having the volume knob to adjust the strength. I put the base up beside the rear quarter panel so it is totally hidden under the carpet. I could play with the adjustment but it seems I would like it to produce a tighter bass.

Pros: Size, volume knob

Cons: Not as tight bass perhaps.

Cons: A little underpowered. Bulky.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2014 Nissan Frontier King cab truck and this was the perfect subwoofer for it. It fits nicely under the drivers seat and it gives me plenty of decent low end in that small cab. It certainly won't hit those low 20 hz notes but it is more than adequate for an 8" self contained powered subwoofer. I'm 47 and don't need my head put through the windshield from a 15" sub. It fills in where the 6x9 Alpines in the doors leave off. I recommend this to anyone that just wants some nice punch and low end added to their factory system.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had this installed for me in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I was hoping it would fit under one of the front seats, but no go (too tall ). Instead, placed it on the back lift cover. It is secure (brackets that came with unit are screwed thru the lift which is secure when door is closed. Snug enough not to be able to get fingers under to lift out- thinking about theft when top is off). The sounds is doing what I wanted it to - give a "fullness" sound. Gives a little thump, but nothing shattering. The bass control knob is nice to have to easily increase or decrease bass (verses navigating the stero for the equalizer).

Pros: Good sound, amp/speaker all in one

Cons: Didn't fit under seat

Sound Ordnance dropped a bomb on my car! I bought this as an open box for $125 and installed in my 2010 mazda 5 under the passenger seat. For the size and price this thing is amazing! No you will not drive by 7-11 and shake the twinkies off of the shelf... Yes you will enjoy deep rich music not afforded by factory car systems. Coupled with my JVC head unit, I am a Crutchfield customer for life!

Did Not Last Me Long

Gil from Corona, CA on 10/10/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this for a little over 2 years with no issues and sounded great when it worked. Just a few months ago started to work intermittently. Checked all connections had power to them, fuse was ok and ground was tight. Called once and the guy was not able to help much but it did start to work while on phone with him but cut out again a few days later and said call back if not working again. Well now cannot get it to work at all. This was my first compact subwoofer and last buying Sound Ordnance. Very disappointed lasting only over 2 years. I thought it would last much longer and I am not a heavy user on it. Bass sounded great when working.

Pros:

Cons: Stopped working after little over 2 years

Perfect

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was amazed at the sound that this well consructed compact unit produced, it well exceeded my expectations in many ways, fit into the only secluded or hidden area i had, see I was trying for a stealth system in an antique vehicle but was really limited to what I can do 4" speakers were the only size that would fit so after listening to the system it was missing something I needed to figure this out and what to use I went on line and sure there were tons of this type of unit some were really cheap and the looked it, i decided to use this unit one as it was priced in my price range ( Crutchfields price was the best I could find) two the mounting dimensions once powered up it added a crisp clean bass tone to complete the somewhat tinny empty soulless sound of the small speakers and truly completed this system.

Pros: Almost infinitely adjustable from soft and supple to filling dropping, high and low inputs make the unit adaptable to any application, ruggedly constructed yet nice to look at, plenty of other adjustments to tune in what you are looking for, even impressed my 16 year old who now wants one in her car. versitle mounting, compact design, impressive profrmance

Cons: I have yet to fine any

Great way to round out a system in a tight space

World's best wife from Columbia, SC on 10/6/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my husband's 2006 GMC Sierra extended cab. He gives the following review: Once installed, this speaker is a great way to add depth to a rather minimalist system in a tight space. It easily fits under the rear seat. Installation is just like any other amp. If you've done it before or know anything about it, it's not bad. Just watch a how-to video online for your particular vehicle. Like any amp, it took me a while to get the gain and phase levels right. Having the remote level knob is a nice feature if you listen to a lot of different types of music. Overall, I'm very impressed with the bass output of this sytem given the price and size. For not too much, and over the course of a couple of years, I replaced all factory speakers with Pioneer, replaced the head unit, added bluetooth speakerphone, and added this sub. I sold my factory head unit for more than it cost to put in a decent single din unit.

Pros: Easy install. Good controls and features. Clear sound. Compact. Remote control. No ugly LED lights illuminating your vehicle at night. Does not knock your heart valves loose.

Cons: It's not a large wooden box dual sub sound.

Surprisingly good sound from small size!

Steve from Tucson, AZ on 10/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is just what I was looking for to add to my classic car audio system. Fits under the bench seat, nice and tucked away and gives a nice punch to otherwise dull sounding music. I didn't install the bass control as I didn't want to add any gadgets to my dash, I pretty much just set all controls midrange and left it as is. So far the sound sounds good, and I am happy with the quality of this little woofer/amp combo.

Pros: Easy to install, small size to fit under seats, Nice sound

Cons: I don't care much for the mounting brackets, the mounting points should be part of the enclosure. Limited bass due to small size, but I wasn't expecting to break any windows!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to love it, but it turns out that price and convenience only go so far. I read the positive reviews and went for it, but I don't completely agree. Sound quality is really just ok. Actually it's barely good enough for my taste. The last sub I ran (in another vehicle) was also an 8" in a small box (which I built to fit my car), but without the integrated amp. That unit had punch and no detectable distortion, until it started clipping at a very high volume. I've had to adjust the bass way down for this unit, as it distorts, seemingly, very easily. Maybe I just don't have it tuned correctly, so I play with it some more and change the rating accordingly.

Pros: Small Cheap Easy

Cons: Sound quality matches price

BUG from Prescott, AZ on 9/26/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great little sub. It fills the bottom end for pretty much all the music I listen to including classical, jazz, country, rock, and some bluegrass. It's paired with two coaxial Polk Audio 6.5" and two Kicker 6" x 9" coaxial three ways. The head unit is a Kenwood DDX 392 installed in a Ram 1500 regular cab. More may be needed for a larger cab, but this is awesome. I would not recommend it for those who crank maximum volume and want to share their hip hop with neighbors. I suspect the unit would max out and blow, but for me it is perfect!

Pros: Performance for price, easy install, tight sound when needed, booms when needed.

Cons: Not for those who want the car to vibrate and share bass with others going down the road.

Sound Ordnance B-PTD Powered Subwoofer

Barry from Houston, TX on 9/8/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I typically do not write reviews on products, but I felt inclined to do so with this purchase. I installed this powered subwoofer in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - 4 door. Like most people who drive Jeeps, I was not satisfied with the factory system sound. This was a great addition. The sound was exactly what i was looking to add to the existing factory system. Fit perfectly under the front passenger seat. I like the ability to make adjustments between different styles of music with the bass control switch. Installation was straight forward. Only issue I faced was that when i connected to the speakers wires, evidently there was not enough signal to turn on the unit. I ended up running a remote wire from a switched fuse for unit to turn on. Besides that, perfect product for what I was looking for. Crutchfield was great for sales and technical questions when I was looking to purchase product.

Pros: Great price, easy installation, good sound addition to a factory system, bass adjustment switch

Cons: Had to run a remote wire even though it was advertised as not needing one. Not a deal breaker, could have been isolated to my vehicle.

Great product. Fast shipping. Installation was a snap. The sound coming from this woofer is phenomenal. I've bought Sound Ordnance woofers before and was not afraid of buying this one. I installed it in a Ford F150 under the back seat. It fits perfectly. Not a big thumping speaker but the perfect amount of bass to fill out the sound coming from the Kenwood head unit. It is everything I was hoping for and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compact powered speaker.

Pros: Small size. Great sound. Sturdy build.

Cons: None

Pros: Big sound little package. Added dial control is a plus for different types of music. Simple install, clear sound.

Cons: Only need just over 3" clearance to mount, but still too tall to mount under the seats in my gen 1 Tundra or gen 2.5 Montero.

Have had this sub for a couple of weeks now and I listen to mainly hip-hop; this sub does not hit as hard as a conventional subwoofer set up but it will definitely add some decent bass depth to your sound system. If you're looking for something that won't break the bank that'll give you decent bass, I'll recommend this.

Pros: For the price, will add good bass depth to your system.

Cons: Doesn't hit as deep and hard as other subs.

Jason from Traverse City, MI on 8/10/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2014 Ram 1500 Mega Cab. First off, there is nowhere to put it. It doesn't fit in the storage bins under the back seat, which is where I had hoped to place it. It also would not fit under the front seats(power seats, lots of wiring). So, the default location was on the transmission tunnel just aft of the center console. So, it's right out in the open, where I didn't want it. Other than that, it sounds pretty good and I like the "remote" gain control, and find that I use it a lot since I listen to many different types of music, and need to adjust often. Oh, and the unit would not turn on from the speaker leads. I had to run a remote wire to the fuse box.

Pros: Inexpensive, decent sound and volume for a small speaker.

Cons: Could not get the unit to turn on from the speaker leads; had to run a remote wire.

I decided on this powered sub after researching and reading several reviews. I've only had 10 inch and 12 inch subs before so I was somewhat skeptical if I would like the sound of an 8 inch. I won't be winning any competitions with this but that was not my intention. With that said I am extremely satisfied with this product. Especially considering the low cost

Pros: Ease of installation, quality of sound and low-cost

Cons: If you're after window shaking base, this is not what you want

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So, I had a kid. I had to sell my Acura Integra and buy something a little more Dad-ish. I bought a Subaru Forester. Anyone that knows Subarus, knows the stereos in them are atrocious. I didn't want to put a sub in my trunk, because that would be defeating the purpose of my Dad-wagon. I had the Sound Ordnance B-8P in my Integra and was happy with that. I was a bit skeptical about the underseat subwoofers. I mean really, how could something that small sound even remotely decent, especially stuffed under a seat. I dropped it off at my installer, thats been in business for 30 years. He calls me 3 hours later to come pick up the car. When a guy that has that much experience in car audio says "Im actually shocked how good this sounds", you know you made the right choice. For the price, you cant beat it.

Pros: Best bang for the buck.

Cons: Low end bass isnt great, but Im not trying to blow ear drums, so who cares?

Bang for your buck

Jim from MD on 8/3/2016

I listen to mostly rap and reggae and the factory system in my Ford Escape didn't provide enough on the low end. You can't beat it for the price and size. I needed something that would fit under my driver's seat (no room anywhere else and I didn't wanna lose trunk space) so I got this. The bass is a little hollow for my liking. I don't know if that's because I'm used to 2 12 inch subs and a 1000 watt amp in a trunk. And being that it's speaker level in the bass always changes with the volume of the radio. Luckily it comes with the remote knob. When I turn up my radio I have to adjust the sub as well. I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue if you used RCA inputs but for my application that wasn't possible. All in all it's a good sub and I would buy again. I just recommended to my coworker so he could get more bass in his new car.

Pros: Price! having the remote right next to me is a life (and ear) saver. size is great, fit right under my drivers seat.

Cons: bass is a little hollow. still tinkering with that using the controls on the amp. being that it's speaker level instead of RCA (available on the amp but not applicable to me) the level of bass changes with the volume of the music when i turn it up so i have to adjust both radio and sub.

Jeff M from Winchendon, MA on 8/1/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put a new head unit in my 08 Honda Ridgeline (Pioneer 4200NEX, which is also fantastic). when i replaced the OEM head unit i also lost the OEM subwoofer, so I got the Ordinance to replace it, without going crazy on a sub, filling up too much of the back seat row. It claim to be an "under the seat model", but it doesn't quite fit completely, but it does tuck mostly out of the way. they give you the option of velcroing it down, which i tried first, thinking it would be easier to remove if i need to load the truck up, but I ultimately screwed it down which made an amazing difference to the sound. It vibrates the car! comes with a remote gain control which i have on the dash, so i don't have to go through menus to adjust it. I have the radio equalization profile set to "voice" for talk shows, then turn up the sub when listening to tunes. a great purchase for the money. I made the cable harness with some slack so i can move the unit to the passenger seat without disconnecting anything, simply by removing the 3 of the 6 mounting screws, if i need the room on the floor for cargo. another review said the gain control didn't do much. if you increase the gain out of the head unit and/or the 10dB gain adjust on the sub, the gain control will do plenty! It's not earth shattering base, but did restore the OEM sub function that i lost

Pros: great sound in a small package, lots of on-unit controls and a remote gain control

Cons: doesn't quite fit under the seat but not a big deal.

Like other reviews have said, this is not trunk rattling bass. It does do a good job of filling out the sound. The gain knob doesn't seem to do much. This is great for an open air cabin vehicle like a small truck or hatchback. It sounds great in my 2001 Mercury Cougar. I have some component speakers in the door and this sub and it makes a world of difference.

2014 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like (seemingly) everyone else that reviewed this sub, I can't say enough good things about it. -I replaced the stock system in my Taco with JBL speakers and a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS receiver. Sounded amazing but was lacking that extra oomph I wanted. I wasn't looking to have a system that I could enter into competitions, and I didn't want something that the neighbors could hear as I came down the street. Just wanted to round out the sound and give it some depth. I also wanted a powered sub because I didn't want to deal with installing amps in the limited space I have in the truck. -I considered JBL's 8-inch powered sub and then saw the Sound Ordnance. Talked to a Crutchfield advisor (love those folks!) and asked what the difference was (aside from the price). Without hesitation, he said there isn't a difference and there was no reason why I should spend the extra money for the JBL (altho it's a great product, too). -So, went for the Sound Ordnance and, holy amazing sound, Batman! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. After a couple of days of tuning, it really is astonishing how well this thing has supplemented my system. I listen to everything and no matter if it's Slayer, Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin, Thelonius Monk ... it all sounds awesome. Can't recommend this sub enough!

Pros: Great price, amazing sound, easy to install.

Cons: VERY minor quibble ... the Velcro strips that came with the sub's installation kit were only hooks (no hoops) so they were useless. Overall, though, no big deal.

This is a good sub. If you are a bass player and need to hear the actual sound of the bass and not just the pitch, this sub does the job very well. Like any sub, even after finding a middle ground, the crossover needs to be adjusted for some tracks. Such as 2097 from the wipeout XL ost. Very small, very durable, no noise from the unit itself, comes with mounts. Not for the oldschool rap muffled trunk sound. But still great for rap as well.

Pros: Small, clear sound, loud enough for more than comfortable listening volume inside a vehicle, good crossover, no cone distortion or surround distortion sound, RCA type inputs and normal speaker level inputs (with adapter), 2 mounts. After running wires through your car, it is easy to install. Very loud for the cost.

Cons: Need to buy power, ground, remote power wires. If not mounted, it slides all over the car before anything else does. Super low notes will be quiet compared to normal bass unless you adjust your crossover(s) sub and head for that track.

I bought this to replace my stock sub in my Honda Ridgeline. It is paired with a Jensen head unit. It fits under my back seat and I could have installed it under any seat due to its size. It has a sound a bit better than my stock unit did. It does not have the thump of a much more expensive unit just a nice solid low end. Wiring was simple and it works but its not included so you have to purchase an install kit but that is discounted and the kit made it real easy to install. I needed a splitter to get the mono sub output to connect to the two inputs on the sub. Very nice for the price.

Pros: Small, great price, sounds good' installs easily

Cons: No wiring included

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While this may look like the Poor Man's sub, its quality and sound will say different. I installed it in about 4 hours and the process was made vastly easier by the removal of the drivers seat. The bulk of the time was taken up snaking the power, audio-pair and "on" wire through the center console area. I opted for the Rockford Fosgate wiring kit and its power, audio and grounding leads were perfect although you'll do yourself a favor by purchasing some 10AWG spade lugs, which fit the unit perfectly. My intent was to install the unit under the passenger seat but Toyota has a subassembly underneath, which prevents positioning the unit completely. My solution was to install the unit laterally and just rearward enough to allow fold-down of the rear seat platform. Whether the platform is up or down does not detract from the unit's power one iota. I will also mention the mounting brackets that came with the kit were pretty much useless and in the end, I attached the 2 male Velcro strips that were provided. They mate perfectly with the vehicle's carpet and prevent any unwanted movement. If you're looking for a lower-cost 8-inch powered subwoofer that sounds great, I highly recommend this unit.

Pros: Cost Sound Relative ease of installation

Cons: Mounting brackets that are provided

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really like the sound this little beauty puts out. Why 4 stars? The instructions are worthless. Could not get the thing to work. Several calls to tech support really not much help. Spent time reading the previous reviews to find the answer. Here is the bottom line. If you are going to tap into your speaker wires (stock head unit) and use the high power input, the amp may not detect the incoming signal and turn on automatically. Wiring to both rear speakers seemed to make the thing turn on occasionally, maybe more signal to detect. So if no luck using the high power input option, which I would try first, then go right to the RCA input option. In my case, tech did not tell me this, I got it from all the kind people who wrote useful reviews. How to fix? 1-get an add-a-fuse, put it in a 10 amp fuse in your fuse box, and run a remote wire from the fuse box to its hookup in the back of the unit, I put mine in the ignition fuse, so it is only on when the truck is on 2-get a line out converter and tap into the the speaker wires as before (I used quick splice connectors), make sure to respect proper polarity 3-now hook the rca cables from LOC to rear of unit and flip the front switch to remote. Should work now. Got all parts locally, but have seen them at the local car retail store, the local big box store, and of course right here at Crutchfield if you can wait . First install, really pretty easy, once I figured it out, but could have saved several hours with good directions or tech support.

Pros: Sounds great

Cons: Terrible directions

Overall gives a nice punch for such a small compact speaker, wont rattle your neighbors windows but gets the job done. Fits nicely under the back seat. The remote level adjustment is a great option too, allows you to give a little more/less bass when needed

Nothing much I could add to what everybody else has said. Except maybe that if you're planning on installing this under a seat in a 1993 Toyota 4Runner, be prepared for a battle. I swear, Toyota designed those seats and adjusting mechanisms and floor boards and mounting points to specifically prevent the installation of an under-seat sub. No matter how I tried tweaking the sub and the seat, there was some piece of the seat about 1/4" out of whack. But after a week of experimentation, modification, and some amount of physical aggression and creative profanity, I got that sucker in there. And it was worth every minute of anguish - again, all on Toyota's seat design for that year's model.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works well, as stated before, connections for power wires could be larger of you have oo or larger wire already installed . Watch input level as just a slight increase can lead to distortion on bass.Fills in sound nicely where even upgraded sound bar speakers are lacking. I have head top on and really makes the Sony stereo Sound much more expensive and balanced than I would have believed. My wife drives a 2015 Volvo xc60 w/ upgrade factory system and I have 2016 Ford Explorer w/ ford upgrade stereo. This may not quite reach that level but you are also trying to make great sound in a "brick with a hard top" and not 1 drop of sound insulation so I believe I would easily recommend and buy again if this one ever fails. For the money you really cannot go wrong.

Pros: Great sound especially for price ,compact , looks very high end.

Cons: Connectors could be larger if you have larger than 8 gauge wire running, input level is critical for good sound. If you have setting for sub input on your head unit, follow instructions and set @1/2 max level, set input on sub where it sounds good, then fine tune with head unit for best sound .

This is a decent mid bass subwoofer, but seems there are limitations with the compact design in that the very low frequencies are entirely missing. Returned it and ordered an Infinity Basslink, which I have owned in the past, and while a bit clunky it rumbles in the very deep bass just like good home theater sub does.

Matched this with 2 pairs of 2-way polk audio speakers and an old Kenwood receiver. Nice solid bass without drowning out the sound from the other speakers. Just enough punch without annoying other cars at a traffic stop. Straight forward install but make sure you have all the hardware before you begin to save you multiple trips to your local car audio or hardware store in the middle of the install. What you'll need: Wires: - 2 sets of speaker wires if using the high level input (RCA cable for low level input) - 14 AWG minimum for 12V+ (red) and GND (black) - Remote turn on wire (blue) Other necessities: - connection terminals - heat shrink or electrical tape - zip or other cable ties Look elsewhere if you want earth shaking and windows rattling type of sub woofer. Glad I got one before it went out of stock

Pros: Small footprint, produces plenty of bass for the size, ample RMS power, easy install, solid build

Cons: No wires included. Much prefer including the necessary wires than promotion materials such as S/O dog tag and decal

For its size the sub really hits hard. With some support from the outstanding Crutchfeild support team I was able to complete the project. Only issue I ran into was when wiring and using the four channel output to factory radio be sure and take small speaker wire from remote input to the positive side of the output on the four channel. This will give ample power and allow sub to really beat!

Very nice! I was used to a separate 10" or 12" sub in the back seat of my 1998 F150. I could truly FEEL the subs. Didn't really have much faith in the sound ordnance unit that would fit under a seat but... Could that little thing do the job in the crew cab? Would I again have to sacrifice my back seats? I was pleasantly surprised. The connections were simple, the seats were not sacrificed and the performance was great. I just wanted a enough "thump" to round out my sound and it did that with plenty to spare. Don't get it twisted, its not a separate 12" sub butt hen again I'm not trying to be heard coming down the street anymore.

I have been getting my sound system to what I want but couldn't get the amount of bass from my audio system. I had a powered sub-woofer before so I went the same route. I didn't want to get deaf like some of the cars out there but enough to get a good bass thump! I have the amp under the pass. seat so I had to put it under the driver seat. After getting everything setup and tested, I tried seating on the seat to see if I could feel the bass but it was so minimal that you wouldn't know it's there. So perfect, you can hear the bass but not feel it! Anyone who want to just get that extra bass thump without installing a big amp and sub-woofer, it is the way to go! It was a little long for my seat but the rear mat covered up the end to hide the unit. It also comes with a remote to control the amount of bass you want without going to the unit to adjust! Awesome!

Pros: I love everything about this powered sub-woofer! Just amount of bass thump without going deaf! Awesome sound!

Cons: The only things is that it's an inch too long but that's the only con I could think of.

1994 BMW 325IS
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little sub surpasses my expectations. BMWs are notorious for having cabins that are a little too sealed off from the trunk. This makes traditional sub/amp combos a pain, because you're more likely to hear the bass outside of the car as opposed to inside. I was a little wary about the size and power this sub would have though. In short, my seats have zero room under them, so I chose to put this guy on my rear seat in the center. (no way you're fitting a 3rd person in the center rear seat of an e36 bmw anyways) The bass is solid, don't expect window shaking, but it will vibrate my seat a bit with certain songs. It has a mild vibration sound, overall I'd give the sound quality 4 stars. I'd prefer a little crisper hit, but the size and price make up for the short comings. I didn't think it'd be very loud so I actually bought two just in case, and I'll be sending the second one back or selling it to my friend, because one is plenty for my car. All in all, if you want to fill out the lows of any system, this is worth every dollar and won't sacrifice much space at all. If you want to shake windows, look for a "classic" full sized box. Hookup was very simple. (I used RCA cables) I'll definitely be using this in future cars. Great addition to any system, light, affordable, and small.

Pros: Small, surprising punch, light, half the price of other compacts, easy hook up, build quality seems very solid.

Cons: The velcro strips that come with it are junk. (small and don't grip anything), bass isn't AS crisp as I'd like (still quite good though), If you had to mount it under a seat or in the back, making adjustments other than bass level would be a pain (however, I'm a set it and forget it type of person so it works great for me)

When I bought my 2-door 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport last year, I immediately upgraded the stock unit with a Kenwood KDC-X998 and added some Alpine speakers. Now I've added this sub, which I am very pleased with. I don't want to be heard coming from two blocks away; I just wanted some better bottom end while listening to the Prog Rock I favor. This sub is perfect for that. It fills my Jeep with sound, even over that normal Jeep roar you get at highway speeds. I virtually never run it at maximum, and even have to dial it back a bit on some songs. But, the wired remote I mounted on the center console near my right knee makes that easy. One caveat....I thought it would fit under the passenger seat but, that was a no-go. However, I just rotated the unit 90 degrees and anchored it in the foot-well behind the seat. We never have anyone ride in the back (in fact, I have removed the rear seat entirely and stored it in my garage), so it is not a problem. But, this may be something to consider if you have a Jeep with people in and out of the rear seat. Very pleased.

Pros: Great sound. Great price. Remote is nice.

Cons: None.

For what this item is, it's great. I can admit I was going into owning one with higher expectations though. This thing simply can not hit the lows that i wanted it to in my ford ranger. Someone in another review mentioned that it just 'disappears' when lows are playing, and that is true, it vanishes. The hz it can produce, aren't even really that loud. I had to turn the gain up all the way, to really even hear it... like i said for what it is , a small compact subwoofer that fits just about anywhere, its okay. but do not go in with high expectations like i did.

2008 Honda Accord LX-P sedan. Placed this under the passenger seat, used an EFX PA10BX wiring kit to connect it. Able to run wires via the center console to the stereo and out the lower edge of the console (covering the wires with plastic flex tubing), no need to use the mounting kit as it is snug under the seat and a floormat keeps it in place, left just enough slack to be able to move the seat forward and pull it out to adjust. Placed the inline volume/level adjuster by the front seat. Took about two weeks of tweaking with it to find the sound that worked best for me. More than enough power to fill the car with bass. Pretty impressive with most music so far, if you're a bass head this probably won't work for you but for anything other than deep 808s it does very well.

Pros: Easy install, controls are convenient to get to, lots of power for a small 8" sub. Compact enough to fit under the front seat.

Cons: Can't handle the deepest bass without a bit of rattle, but really, it is only an 8" sub.

I purchased this powered subwoofer along with a EFX PA10BX Wiring Kit from Crutchfield. I want to say I do not have any experience installing electronic devices, yet I was able to install this subwoofer in my Chevy Colorado in 30 minutes. Super easy installation. The subwoofer compliments my Kicker 43DSC6504 DS Series 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers. The bass the subwoofer produces is does not overpower the high and mid range sounds and it comes with an adjustable bass dial that I installed onto my center console beneath the steering wheel -- easy access to make adjustments. The sound is perfect for me as I do not like super thumping bass when listening to my music. The connection to my Pioneer MVH-X380BT receiver was super easy. A Mixed Bag

Eric S. from williamsburg, VA on 2/16/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was torn between 2 or 3 stars. This sub is certainly loud, but not very accurate. For me (using factory stereo speaker leads as inputs) it seemed to make everything sound like a kick drum. With the 80-150 Hz crossover set as low as it would go, this sub still created a lot of the mid- and upper bass I was already getting from my factory speakers, so it was a case of it being a fine line between actually hearing the sub, and getting too much from the sub. I returned my S/O sub for the Kicker Hideaway and have been Much happier despite the jump in cost. Also, I had an issue with the the S/O sub not triggering on automatically (as it should have done) from just my speaker level inputs. It was inoperative 75% of the time. Have had no trouble at all with the Kicker auto-turning on via the same speaker leads, and am much happier I spent the extra money, but this S/O sub has some redeeming features. Give it a try, if it works well for your application, great! If not, Crutchfield is very good about returns and is a factory-authorized Kicker dealer, so you can trade up with peace of mind.

Pros: Very solidly constructed, well designed connections, dog tag included in the box, and a cool B-17G drawing is on the container box. The infinitely variable phase control allows fine-tuning of this critical parameter. Can be turned up loud. The level control is very discreet and looks great.

Cons: Didn't switch on consistently, not much nuance or low bass, even at low volumes and with crossover as low as it would go (80 Hz). Makes most everything sound like a kick drum. Wiring connections are on both ends rather than restricted to one end of the enclosure.

This powered sub was a piece of cake to install. It fits perfectly under my truck seat and provides enough bass to not only hear it, but feel it. You won't be winning any competitions with this sub, but it will do a whole lot better than any factory sub that comes with your car. I like that fact that it is an 8 in because it is a nice and tight sounding bass. The bigger the sub, the more sloppy it sounds in my opinion. I prefer the tighter more controlled base and this 8 in delivers that. The base control nob is great and I really don't have any complaints. It feel solid and weighs a decent amount. It is nice to have the added base in my truck without having to take up an extra seat. I almost bought another brand and I am glad that I didn't.

Pros: Tight bass Easy install Perfect for under truck seat Hits decent for size

I purchased this for a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited due to the limited space. It fit nicely under the passengers seat. Installation was pretty straight forward. Nothing complicated. I used the line-in for a signal as I installed this with a stock stereo. Sound is pretty good for a unit this size. I was very surprised. However, it tends to be very overpowering and not very "tight". Might be better if I was using RCA inputs. The remote volume is nice but the assembly is kind of cheap. In my previous vehicle (super duty crew cab) I used a Kenwood 12" sub in a Sound Ordinance enclosure with a 600 watt Kenwood amp. This sub is nothing like that, but I'm learning to live with it. This sub is awsom. I added it to my stock f250 stereo and it sounds amazing. It comes on when it detects a signal from you stock speaker wires. The first sub I ordered did not come on with the radio. I called Crutchfeld and they sent me a new on and it worked perfect.

Pros: Awesome sound. Can not believe how much sound it ads to a stock stereo

Cons: Non

Great Sub for the Money and Space

Great little subwoofer. I installed it in my 2016 wrangler 4 door. The main issue I had with the installation was trying to use the high level inputs. Apparently this is a common issue. Once I installed a line out converter with rca's and a remote turn on lead it worked perfectly. I could have saved a few hours troubleshooting the installation if I would have known that in advance. One interesting thing is the line out converter I used is auto sensing and provides a remote turn on lead. It works perfectly. So the issue is clearly the auto turn on built in the subwoofer. I guess that's how they keep the price so low. Because of that, I can't give this woofer 5 stars. So if you buy this sub, also use a line out converter if using your factory speakers. Do not use the high level inputs.

Pros: Size. It's tiny and priced right.

Cons: The high level inputs don't work very well.

Great subwoofer

I bought this subwoofer because I wanted something compact that would fit in my Miata. This fits neatly in the passenger footwell. I am very impressed with the bass output. I have some dialing-in to do, as I simply turned all the knobs on the unit to halfway, and even without properly setting it up, it complements my 6.5" Polks very well. I barely have the volume on the remote turned up at all and it provides more than enough bass. The price was great, too.

Pros: Extremely small profile, easy to set up, very good bass output for its size, and a low price.

Cons: None I can think of.

Sound ordnance sub

I was questionable at first but I got this sub hooked up and playing in no time at all! It was easy running cables and wiring it! I am very impressed with bass! Wasn't expecting what I got out of it! It can thump although it isn't the sub to rattle houses and any cars around but people will know you have a little something going on!

Pros: Bass Remote level control Ease of plug and play

Cons: None

At first I thought this was trash. Then I remembered I had to adjust the knobs, now I'm astounded by how much bass this little thing produces. Great Product.

Pros: Fits under pass. Seat Good amount of power

Cons: None

15 Jeep Wrangler 2 door

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2015 Wrangler 2 door with stock non-Alpine radio. I replace the head unit, speakers, and added this Sub for a little bass. I listen mostly to rock, hard rock, little country, and a little pop. This will NOT fit under the seat of the 2 door wrangler due to the seats spring mechanism. I mounted it to the tailgate using the supplied mounting brackets with no issue. I have the tuffy security enclosure which makes the back area basically a car trunk. After install was complete I actually like it better there than under the seat. I would rate sound quality as excellent for all rock (you can really feel the kick drum), excellent for all country, and great for most pop. This will not satisfy those looking for booming bass for rap music. Overall I am very happy with the purchase with no regrets.

I have an 2015 F350 crew cab and this was the perfect solution to the lack of bottom end from the factory system! I tapped into my rear speakers and used a line converter to be able to use the rca jacks on the subwoofer. I highly recommend doing it this way and not just run speaker wire into unit. I liked that it fit right behind the rear seat on the floor. I just relocated the jack. You have to play around with the adjustments a bit and then it sounds great! Don't expect the windows to rattle cause it wont do that. Don't forget the wiring kit. Bass control works great! We will see how long it lasts.

Pros: Easy hookup..Does what it's supposed to do. Fairly cheap.

Cons: none yet

Does not fit

Went over measurements with tech, assured me this would be a futunder my truck seat. (2013 Tacoma sport) - it was not, and the place I took it to went ahead and installed it, behind the rear seat drivers side. Rattles, is muffled, it was a done deal so I just left it be. Too busy to muck with it at the time, I regret not returning it But I had to pay for the install. So, I am stuck with a muffled , rattling mess.

Amazing for the money

I was NOT expecting this thing to sound as good as it does. It filled out all of the frequencies I was missing after my Christmas speaker upgrade. Honestly, I don't think I could tell a difference between the SO sub and one costing twice as much (which is what I was considering). This is a perfect way to finish up a budget-minded stereo upgrade without sacrificing much if anything. It fits neatly under my seat, the volume control mounted in the center console within easy reach (the pot comes out of the stock plastic case and can be mounted against a switch blank, if you have one), and matches my needs for the car's system perfectly. Not too much, not too little.

Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality, size.

Cons: Plastic chassis is the only thing I can think of, and that's picking nits.
