Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered sub

This compact sub delivers strong bass without taking up much space.

Big bass from this tough little sub

A 125-watt RMS Class D amplifier powers the sub and lives on a compact circuit board mounted inside the enclosure. The sub's stiff 8" aluminum cone holds its shape even when playing hard, helping to keep the lowest notes clean, and ensuring a long life for the sub. You can adjust the low-pass filter, variable phase control, and bass boost to get the B-8PTD sounding perfect in your vehicle. Preamp- and speaker-level inputs allow convenient connection to just about any system, even a factory stereo.

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD powered subwoofer

The molded ABS enclosure houses a 125-watt amp and a tough little 8" sub.

Good design helps

The B-8PTD's tough outer casing of molded ABS plastic serves as the sub's sealed enclosure and can withstand some pretty extreme internal pressure changes with no reverberating or buzzing. Sound Ordnance conveniently located the neat, clean, easy-to-understand controls on one side, opposite all the connections, so you won't get tangled in wires as you tune your bass. The control knobs and switches aren't recessed, so you can make adjustments by hand, without the need for a tiny screwdriver.

Nice sound, but already blew

Peyton from Vermillion, SD on 10/16/2017

Have had this installed for about a month now and it worked great up until last night. I've never been one to have it turned all the way up nor even halfway but usually a fourth a little lower and out of no where the sub started to sound like it blew out and you can definitely tell when it has been turned up. Extremely disappointed with this product.

Pros: Good sound, Compact fit

Cons: Lacking in quality, good sound only lasted a month or so before blowing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did not expect this to sound as good as it does! And for the price, it was a great deal. My 1995 Toyota T100 extra cab already had wiring for an amp so installing it was quick. It was easy to get it set and level with my stereo. The level adjustment knob comes with more than enough cable. Is it a pounding bass that shakes your mirror and rattle the doors? No, but it makes enough bass to where I can enjoy the music and not waste space with a big speaker box. It sounds clear, and handles the volume levels I like to hear heavy metal played. I am impressed.

Pros: All the wiring is on one end, controls on the opposite end. Space saving, looks durable, sounds professional

Cons: None, in my opinion.

This is a great little sub woofer. I purchased the installation kit and I'm glad I did. The installation in my 1969 Firebird wasn't terribly easy but not terribly difficult either. After I ran all the wires from the radio the battery etc., it worked like a champ. I particularly love the remote control that allows you to adjust the bass intensity for each and every song. The price was right, and it totally changed the sound of my stereo system and I highly recommend this unit. Cosmo, my Crutchfield representative was extremely helpful and I thank him for his hard work

Pros: Great price, great sound, love the remote control. Easy install

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading some reviews of this product, I wasnt sure if it would be the best one I could buy for the money. Having listened to it now for a week, it can provide more bass that I can comfortably listen to. I really am satisfied with this Sub and would recommend it as an easy-to-install upgrade to a 2001 Ford Supercrew truck. Very knowledgeable installation help from Crutchfield staff.

Pros: Easy to install with lots of bass sound.

Cons: I didn't connect the remote power line to the correct receiver switch wire. After hooking it up correctly to the blue antenna control wire, it works great.

2017 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 2017 Mustang's 6 speaker factory radio had no bass at all. My budget was really limited, so I installed this sub. The install was easy. I just lay the unit in the passenger's side rear floorboard. It brings all the Thump that I need and is everything I was looking for. I went ahead and replaced the door and rear speakers with Kenwood KFC-1665S speakers at the same time. SO glad I'd bought this little sub. When I play the 6 speakers alone I can hear an improvement in the mids and highs from the replacement speakers but STILL no bass thump. Once I power up the SUB it all sounds Great!

Pros: Reasonably priced, Easy install, adjustable

Cons: It didn't work on the Auto Power mode as advertised so I did have to run a "Switched Ignition Hot" wire to it as well as the power feed.

Great sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had this in my '05 Chevy Avalanche now for a few weeks now and am still trying to find the best settings to balance out the sound. The bass is quite impressive for the size of it. I have it under the rear seat with the gain set halfway and the low pass @ 50Hz and at times still drowns out the other speakers, especially at 60 or 70 Hz lpf setting . I am looking to install new components in the front and 2-way 6.5 coaxial speakers in the rear powered by an alpine ktp-445u powerpack.

Pros: Good power and sound for the size. Easy to install and fits easily under the rear seat.

Cons: None

Well balanced bass.

Jim from Nevada on 9/10/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I liked this sub so much I bought another one for the passenger side. I have a 61 corvair that I wanted a system in but I wanted to hide everything. This little sub really fits the bill as it fits easily under the seat. It comes with a 125 watt amp. One side has all the hook ups, the other side has input gain, bass boost, adjustable low pass. The sound ordinance 8 blends seamlessly with my audio frog 4" front and rear. Could not be happier!

Pros: Great bass, very small package. One was good, two are better!!!

Cons: The only nit are the knobs are tiny to set the sub up with.

Great base in a compact size

Tony from Mc Keesport, PA on 8/28/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this base in the 150 watt in my 2008 F-150 reg. cab. It sounded great however, it over powered the Kenwood head unit so I choose the 125 watt for my 2016 extended cab. A couple words of caution. The stock radio did not have the required speaker signals to turn the auto function on for the base so I had to wire it to a 12 volt accessory wire at the AC adaptor in the center console for the rear seats. I have been installing stereos/bases in my and my families vehicle since 1975. The newer Ford F-150's are very challenging to work on and only experts should attempt this install if you want a 1st class job. (check out the attached photos). give yourself plenty of time. For F-150 owners, I wired the 12 volt power supply from the battery. I removed the air cleaner and the radiator cover and routed the hot wire behind the grill, mounted the fuse block next to the air cleaner. It was much easier to put the wire through the firewall on the drivers side but the supplied wire was not long enough. I replaced the door speaker with Polk's and center speakers with an Infinity and base was still lacking. This base unit gives a more pleasing sound for easy listening and has enough punch for rock and modern music at moderate volumes. I mounted my base behind the center console on the floor under back seat. It fits perfectly however running the wires under the carpeting will challenge your patience.

Pros: Small compact size but give a large size quality of base.

Cons: Due to the type of speaker signals of newer audio equipment the auto on function did not work and new wiring hook ups were required.

This is a great unit for the money. It more than met my expectations and really completes the sound profile of my system with an extremely easy install. This does bottom out at some of the lowest levels of the range, but this isn't the highest end of the spectrum.

2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me say that I bought my first one of these about 9 months ago to go in a 1992 Chevy 1500 that my 16 year old drives. It added a nice full sound as well as a little bit of thump. No, it doesn't rattle the windows but it really does help round out the lower end. It fit well right under the seat of the truck. Before I bought the second one, I tried another brand from another website (to see if that one was as good). I wired that sub and it was junk. I sent it back and then ordered this one for my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I mounted this under the driver seat and it fit nicely. Again, it added a nice low end but won't rattle the windows. If you are looking to add some bass without breaking the bank, this little powered sub works great.

Pros: Compact, good sound, good installation support, great value.

Cons: Power terminals could be better design for easier insertion of power wires. Anchoring method could be better.

GREAT Sub with tons of punch for the money!

Richard from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands on 8/6/2017

Hands down this is a GREAT sub for the price! When the Crutchfield salesperson recommended, I was skeptical but after reading the reviews I gave it a shot. This things does NOT disappoint! Tiny enough to slip under a seat but it POUNDS. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to fill out the bass in your ride. Made my 2015 Wrangler unlimited sound fantastic!

Pros: With its size and price you just cannot beat the fantastic little sub!

Cons: None so far.

Excellent solution for confined spaces

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome amp/ sub combo for those wanting that missing bass to complement a basic car setup. Not mirror rattling but definitely enough to notice. I have this unit wired to an aftermaket HU with better output than a stock so I can't comment on what a stock HU would sound like. Currently using the stock speakers which have now been freed from trying to produce frequencies they weren't meant to produce. Overall the system has become more tune-able so I think I'll save some money on replacing the stock speakers. Have this mounted under the passenger seat of a 2010 Toyota RAV4 in a north/ south configuration. Wiring is fed from near the floor vent while the controls are facing the rear passenger foot well. Sits far enough back that the kids haven't accidentally kicked the unit. Found a convenient location for the 'bass dial' so on the fly adjustments (wife complaints) are easily dealt with. Used the RCA inputs instead of the speaker inputs. Highly recommend this unit for those looking for a quick bass solution and are tired of the space robbing 'subs' of old.

Cons:

1990 Ford F Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 1990 F150 single cab truck. For the price, this unit more than fills the space with low end thump, and sits securely under the bench seat. It doesn't do it's best work trying to push the super low frequencies of today's hip hop/rap given the 8-inch sub size, but has filled out the missing sound in pretty much any other genre I've tried so far. I have it paired with a Kenwood receiver and two 6.5" Kickers in the doors. Gives my old truck a full modern sound!

Pros: Ease of install, size of unit, all around performance

Based on response to my posted question about whether this will fit under the seat of a '06 4Runner, I purchased it. However it did NOT fit. So far so good! I installed this in my 1972 Ford Bronco under the driver's seat. I was looking for a small compact until to give a little more volume to the sound from my stereo. It's not a plate rattler, but it does a nice job of making your music sound "full".

Pros: - Small compact design. - Compliments existing components nicely. - Price

Cons: - Not weatherproof.

Fantastic sound...."no way that puts out that bass"

Jim from Fayetteville, NC on 6/27/2017

1989 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is one great sounding subwoofer!!! I own 2 Sound Ordnance B-8P's in two other vehicles and absolutely love them. My intention was to purchase another for the wife's car, but the box size was just a little to big to put in the trunk of the 89' Mustang Coupe. Looking at a smaller enclosed subwoofer setup, I came across the B-8PTD. Despite all the great reviews, I was still somewhat skeptical of how it would sound based on the overall size and construction. However, I took the plunge and sooooo glad I did. This little powerhouse rocks it!!! It only took several minutes to get the tuning dialed in to match the head unit and I was set. I am absolutely amazed of the sound this puts out. When people listen to the sound system, they can't believe what they see in the trunk producing the bass. They are expecting to see a large pair of boxes and amp and are truly surprised to see something slightly larger than a shoe box! I intend on purchasing one for my pickup truck to put under the passenger seat since the cargo area of my extended cab is limited. It's construction is rigid as well so it looks like it could handle some banging around if put under a seat or cargo area of an SUV or extended cab truck.

Pros: Great amp & sub combo. Priced right, quality, and great sound. Compact enough to fit almost anywhere.

Cons: Only thing I would say it could use are mounting tabs of some sort. I plan on using hook & loom or anti-skid backing pad to keep it from sliding around.

Good bass - here are some notes for amateur installers

Mark from Bethlehem, NH on 6/20/2017

2012 Toyota RAV4
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Notes for amateur installers: - I bought the sub, a Crutchfield power wiring kit, a Bluetooth wiring harness for my factory radio, and 30' of 16 ga speaker wire. Posi wire connectors would've been good. - I had to connect the remote wire from the power wiring kit to a switched 12 volt wire in the factory radio harness. The speaker wire (high level) signal was too weak. - The wiring harness suggested by Crutchfield worked really well. I spliced into the harness without cutting the factory wiring for the speaker wires plus the remote wire. - If you're going to use the high level audio signal, decide whether to use the front or rear speakers depending on how you balance your speakers now. If you like to balance to the rear, probably connect to the rear speakers to maintain a full audio signal to the sub. - Consider using YouTube tones to help adjust the settings: search for 100Hz test tone. Music was too inconsistent to tell what the settings were changing. It also helped me test if my factory radio had a low pass filter to the rear speakers. Despite a lot of testing, I'm still playing with the sub's settings (level, phase, frequency) trying to make it sound good for all my music. Maybe it's the sub's location, maybe a lot of things - if you're having similar trouble, you're not alone, keep at it. I was nervous about doing it myself but in the end it worked and I'm happy with the sub. Buy it, you won't regret it, just be patient with the install and

Pros: Good bass, fills in the low end

Cons: Might take time to get the settings right to avoid muddled, soft bass

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD

Anonymous from Lafayette, LA on 6/18/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I will say the reason I am giving a 3 star review is due to the service at Crutchfield. Supported this customer 100%. Worth 5 Stars. If you look at the reviews of this item you will see a number of them with the same issue. The unit does not work well at all with the speaker level inputs. Got two units sent to me and both were intermittent performers. It would bode well for Crutchfield to stop selling this item. It does not match up to the level of quality Crutchfield typically sells.

Pros: Crutchfield 5 star customer support

Cons: Known issues with the speaker level inputs and still selling the product. Give it a Zero rating

Poor bass and distorts easily

2006 Toyota Tundra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty poor bass, distorts easily. I installed this under the drivers seat of my 06 toyota tundra, with stock head unit. Certainly it has more bass than my tundra had originally, but its not a great improvement. I have had factory stereos which provided better bass through the door speakers. When you adjust the setting, and have a song with good bass, just when this thing starts kicking some lows, it also distorts. I once build a plywood box, and installed a cheap 10" sub which I powered directly from an aftermarket head unit with no Amp, and that gave me better bass than this Sound ordinance unit. I've gone through the trouble of installing it, but had I not already killed a day with the install I would be returning this unit. Save your money, buy a better head unit and door speakers, or something else, but dont buy this.

Pros: cheap

Cons: poor quality bass, distorts easily

2005 Scion xB
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had good speakers and a good aftermarket audio already, but this was the best way to add a nice sounding bass to my car. It works and sounds awesome, no complaints. Two minor things: The wire attachments could have been better. It's a bare wire screw clamp, making 10 gauge wire tie-ins awkward at best. But then again you do it only once. Remote sound volume knob cable is long and you can't just cut it to make it short, because it terminates with a phone-style jack.

Pros: Easy to use Easy to install Great bass

Cons: Uses a bare wire screw clamp, making 10 gauge wire tie-ins hard Remote sound volume knob cable is long and you can't just cut it to make it short, because it terminates with a phone-style jack.

Saaaweet little subwoofer!

Anonymous from SW Michigan on 5/30/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the money, this thing is awesome! It's not going to add hardcore shake the neighbors house bass, but if you are looking to easily improve the bass in your car this is it. Combined with my new CD receiver and door speakers, music sounds amazing in my car again! Personally, I look for quality of sound and this fit the bill perfectly. There was already a 4ga power cable in my car that I used and it was way oversized to hook up to the terminals on the sub-woofer body, so 8ga would be plenty big enough. I had to play with the settings on the sub-woofer and in my CD receiver a while, but I am pretty satisfied with where it's at.

Pros: Looks good Sounds great Quality/built well Easy to use/install Value

Cons:

Excellent subwoofer. Nice sound. The reason for the 2 stars is the poor design of the 3 wire clamps on the back of the sub. Too small and lots of difficulty in attaching the wires. The designer should have used a clamping mechanism like that on the backs of most speakers. On the unit I got, 1 of the wire clamp screws got stripped. A redesign is in order here. Make it stupid simple. Bullet proof. Not these tiny screws/clamps that are difficult to work with. Even if ends were crimped onto the wires, attaching them to the 3 clamps would still not be acceptable. Overall, a great sub with some corners cut by the designer in the choice of hardware.

Pros: Sounds great.

Cons: Method of attaching wires poorly thought out. Clamps too small. Screws easily strip.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First... be sure you buy a kit that has wires long enough to reach the sub. The kit I purchased from Crutchfield did not reach from the battery & remote wire to the rear of my SUV. I had to add about 5 feet more of wire (not a big deal, just an inconvenience and also the wire I had was not the same high quality as what came in the kit). Getting the ground wire was also a challenge because it was so short. I had to take off a panel that also had a seatbelt bolt to remove and I was not able to get the seatbelt harness installed. I'll need to get a bolt threader and get that done at a later time (third row seat seatbelt, so now I have 7 belted seats instead of 8). Aside from the inconveniences that came from the installation process, the powered sub sounds really nice. It doesn't shake the rearview mirror, but it does give a satisfying low end that the radio & 6-1/2 two way speakers would not have. The radio and sub have enough setting adjustments to really get a good sound between the powered sub and speakers. Overall very happy with this powered sub. Seems to be a good quality unit that should last a long time.

Pros: Sounds great. Good low end bass, but not the thump from big box units (I didn't want over powering bass, this is just the right amount).

Cons: The kit sold by Crutchfield was not long enough to give trouble fee installation. Would recommend finding a way to measure the length needed before ordering the wire kit.

Great sound in a small package! I replaced a 10" JL that was in a large sub box with the B-8PTD. The B-8PTD is literally the size of my old amp. It does not hit the low notes like the JL but it so much nicer having that space back in my trunk.

Pros: Small, sounds great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my daughters 2013 Ford Focus. I tried to fit it under the seat but ended up putting it in the trunk. Good bass for what it is. I prefer a little more bass which is why I gave 4 starts instead of 5, but it's great for adding a little thump to the factory radio. Getting the amp power wire inside the car was the toughest part of the whole installation. I had some issues with the factory speaker wire colors but Crutchfield helped me out with that. I've been buying from Crutchfield since the late 90's when I was a teenager. Their service has always been top notch. The installation gear has always been a cut above the rest.

This is a great setup if you're looking to add some bass. It packs some really good sound in a compact case. There's plenty of bass in my Tundra now and I lost very little space with this set up. There's plenty of adjustment to dial in exactly what you want coming out of this speaker. Don't be intimidated by there being adjustments if it's not something you're comfortable with. One call to to Crutchfield and their techs can walk you through just about anything.

Awesome power and sound with this sub. It's size allows plenty of mounting options. I placed it on the back wall of my daughter's 98 ranger. The directions are a little lacking, consisting of mostly pics. I encounters a problem getting power and after hours of frustration and rewiring, discovered that it was the flipping of a single switch that gave me all that grief. I used RCA cables rather than tapping the rear speakers. The switch I was referring to was on auto detect which is the wrong setting for RCA cables apparently. On a whim I flipped the switch and bingo....it powered on. This is the lacking in directions I was referring to. All in all my daughter and I are very happy. For the money you won't be disappointed.

Installed this right under the drivers seat in 2002 Jeep Wrangler and it sounds awesome. I don't go past 3 or 4 on the setting because it will blow you out with the windows and doors in. It is quite a bit louder than I expected but it is not a shaker that you feel coming down the street from a block away but more than enough for nice low end and punch . Just O.K. + Installation Issues

Marc from Los Angeles, CA on 3/29/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is AIGHT. Not bad for the price. However, there's really not much control over the low end. I'm an audio engineer for a living so maybe I'm just spoiled but the frequency controls, EQ, etc all seem to have similar effects and non really clean up the sound or create much of a discernible difference in clarity. This thing is really best listened to at lower volumes IMO. It's a gap filler NOT designed to make the 808s in your rap tracks knock. Taking off another star since there was a situation with the FUSE in the back of the sub and upon installation it simply would not make any sound. After checking and re-checking all my connections I read a review on Crutchfield and discovered that at least one person had trouble with the fuse in the back of the sub. I pulled the fuse and put it back and suddenly.... it works! There's no mention of this in the supplied literature. And the person who left this tip also experienced intermittent loss of sound... so although I'm less than confident in my purchase time may tell whether this was worth the money.

Pros: Fills in bass where there once was no bass at all. Sounds good at low volumes (think maybe 10-25% of it's power).

Cons: Sounds muddy and farty if cranked loud. Fuse issue made installation slightly more complicated than it had to be.

With the right accessories ( purchased from Crutchfield as well ) the installation time was roughly 1 hour. I purchased this for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler as the upgraded dash and soundbar speakers didn't provide enough thump. I placed it under the backseat passenger side seat ( perfect fit ), and the control switch on the center console. The overall sound is perfect for the Jeep. Great addition to factory radio

Anonymous from Raleigh, NC on 3/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far, this powered sub has been a pretty decent addition to my truck. At first, I was using the high level turn on option, but after talking with tech support (which Robert was phenomenal in his help), I switched to the remote turn on via the 12v ignition wire on the Entune radio. The amp is just not sensitive enough to turn on via the high level option until you really crank the volume up. I did run into a noticeable turn on thump/pop while starting the truck up, but added a PAC Tr-7 to the remote wire and programmed it with a 4 sec turn on delay and have no issues with the turn on noise.

Pros: Not expensive, decent quality, speaker level inputs

Cons: High level input turn on not sensitive enough.

I purchased this sub at the recommendation of the Crutchfield sales rep. Love Crutchfield and have spent thousands of dollars with them over the last 20 years. This is the first and only time a recommended product fell short. The sub was selected as part of an upgrade system for my son for Christmas for his 2002 Highlander. We replaced the receiver, 8 door speakers and 2 door tweeters. Everything else about the system is incredible, especially for the cost. I have called Crutchfield and they are sending us a new one to swap out. Hope the new one lasts longer than the first. I have a feeling this model is not capable of sustained high volume use but we will see how the new one does. Love the no hassle returns with Crutchfield!!

I just installed my Sound Ordnance powered subwoofer under the driver's seat of my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. What a world of difference it made! I previously called upon Crutchfield, and upgraded my front and overhead sound bar speakers (Polk Audio), and a new Sound Ordnance amp. The upgrade made an amazing difference. I really wanted to like this sub. Great size, great rating, great price, but at the end of the day, the sound Quality wasn't all that great. I'm a bass player so maybe I'm a little biased, but this thing sounded "cheap". The low end was muddy, boxie and sounded unbalanced, no matter how I adjusted the sub. It reminded me of a "Sparkomatic" sub I had years ago. This was connected to a Kenwood DDX9903 via high grade RCA cables from the sub output so the input signal was clean. I had high hopes for this but ended up sending it back trading it in for the Kicker 11HS8. That's a great little sub. If you have a hang up for extremely good sound quality (not just quantity), keep looking.

Pros: Good Price Main Unit seems well Built Easy Installation

Cons: Cheap Sounding Low End (Muddy, Boxie) Sound shaping adjustments makes little difference. Wire Remote feels cheap.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy with my Sound Ordnance sub/amp combo! I've got it tucked into the right side of the back hatch area of a 2007 Honda Fit. It is solidly mounted and has a large open air space in front of the speaker. The sound is excellent, it has a good clean punch to it, and it really does kick! It's not a whole car throbbing kind of bass, but it can get pretty deep, and loud and still sounds clear. I have it paired with Focal 130-AS component speakers in the front doors, which are powered by a 75 watt per channel JL amp. The Focals have a good range, and can play deep tones with clarity, and the Sound Ordnance fills in perfectly. The two work well together. I couldn't be happier!

Pros: Excellent sound Integrated system makes hook-up easy

Cons: nada!

This unit was very easy to install under the front passenger seat. Would have fit under the driver seat but would rather have it further away. The sound is amazing and added a lot more bass to my factory speaker system. Includes a wired remote volume knob that I installed under the dash on right side of steering wheel. Once I got the volume set how I like it, I've had no need to adjust. But it's there if I need to. Called Crutchfield technical support with a question on connecting the blue remote wire to the head unit and wiring harness. Kyle from Aurora, IL on 1/26/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was not quite as easy as I would have liked, as the instructions provided were unfortunately severely lacking in detail. Part of the installation hassle was also due to my vehicle (2002 Dodge Intrepid) being a pain to work around, but that's not the fault of the subwoofer. Once I did get everything secured and connected properly, however, I couldn't have been more pleased with the sound that this little guy produced. It is a terrifically hearty subwoofer for it's size and will provide a very satisfying kick to an already good system. Tweaking the EQ knobs is necessary to acquire the potential of the sub, but it doesn't take more than a few tries to get the bass where you'd like it. It's also very easy to place where-ever you like, and takes up very little space. A great subwoofer for it's price.

Pros: Accurate, tight bass reproduction. Great price/quality ratio. Small, light, takes up little space.

Cons: Installation manual is borderline unhelpful. Requires quite a bit of extra wires (which can be purchased separately here on the site).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was so excited to install this sub in my 17 Accord. Used the line level inputs and tapped the connector directly behind the head unit, soldier with heatshrink... the works. When I first turned on the audio, sound started flowing from the car speakers and the sub's red power light came on... yea! But hey... no sound... what the heck? Powered off, back on .. red light comes on but still no sub activity. Crank it to 75% and still not sub. So while the car audio is on, I pull the fuse from the sub body and pop it back in.. and now we are rockin! I think, ok... weird... but ok. Well not so much. Randomly, some trips, the sub refuses to come one, and some it will. I don't by the response that some audio systems are not powerful enough to trigger it. The power light does come on. I pulled the fuse again and reinserted, at a point in that process I felt it come one.. but still no permanent fix. Very disappointing because when it was working, it was the perfect compliment to the factory Accord audio. I was in love for a day... too bad.

Pros: Perfect compliment to factory Accord audio Nice tidy under seat fit Sweet price for the sound performance Cool remote - installed nicely in blank accessory slot next to econ button.

Cons: Intermittent operation Poor component quality, Guess you get what you pay for.

This was exactly what I was looking for. The sub fits easily under the driver's seat of my '06 Mazda 3 (plenty of room on the sides with approx. 1" to spare above). I needed pro assistance in running the power wire through the firewall, but was able to do the remaining wiring myself. The sub sounds perfect (very loud and still clear) with my system. I have 40W RMS Pioneer door speakers plus Infinity tweeters all running through a Kenwood head unit -- no amp -- (all purchased through Crutchfield). After reading some reviews saying that's where they put theirs. They must have the standard seats. I mounted it in the back cargo (if you can call it that) space. Paired it with a Kenwood deck and I'm amazed at how great they sound. The remote is awesome for quick tuning for different genres. I listen to everything from Alice in Chains to Johnny Cash to Eminem. Just a twist of the knob and it's dialed in. I installed everything, deck/sub by myself in about an hour and a half. It would have been nice to have a hand pulling the power wire through the firewall but I managed. ???? to Sam my Crutchfield advisor for recommending this set up. I also recommend Crutchfields pre wired harness. This service rocks. When I ordered my system Sam mentioned this and what I time saver. They even opened the amp wiring kit and connected the necessary wires for it. #crimpingainteasy written on the package. You're going to have to buy a new harness anyway, why not let the professionals do it right the first time for $20 all included. If you want that full sound that makes the music come alive, buy this thing. You will not be sorry you'll wish you'd done it sooner.

Pros: Incredible sound Easy install All in one

Cons: Doesn't fit under Jeep TJ flip forward seats.

This subwoofer offers very good bass sound for the money and for its small size. It fit nicely behind the passenger seat of my MGB roadster, and it was fairly simple to install. The included remote control knob is very convenient for making quick adjustments of the desired bass level, particularly when mixing various artists and genres.

Pros: Very good sound for size and price. Convenient remote level control.

Extremely easy to install and the sound is better than expected! My son and I installed this under the driver seat of his 2001 Toyota Tacoma along with JBL Stage speakers front and rear. Total time was about 4 hours. I love the sound we get from such a small package. The best review I can give is to say that when were finished, my son spent almost 2 hours just sitting in his truck listening to music. He absolutely LOVED the sound!!

Fills in the lows reasonably well. I would prefer a 10 inch sub in this overall size but that is asking a lot. This provided the largest speaker that I could fit under the front drivers seat of our 2013 Subaru Outback.

Pros: Compact.

Cons: Frequency response could be a little better. I would expect an 8" to go down to closer to 30hz.

Installed in my 2015 CRV with previously had an underwhelming system. This is such a large improvement, I can't believe I didn't do it earlier! I used the line-level inputs with the stock stereo and upgraded front speakers. The remote level control installed wonderfully in an existing switch location, everyone thinks it looks stock! Good sound improvement for a great price. Thanks for another great shopping experience Crutchfield!

Jim from Poughkeepsie, NY on 12/21/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to like this unit- Good specs, decent reviews the right size and seemingly well made. Unfortunately, two in a row were confirmed to not work with speaker level inputs despite the stated ability for such. Voltage readings were taken on both incoming power and speaker level power and all were normal, yet neither would turn on. They did, however, turn on when tested with RCA line level inputs coming from an old stereo. Unfortunately, in my application I do not have RCA inputs, so.......... On the plus side, Crutchfield was honest- they said a number of these units need a surprisingly high level of speaker signal to turn them on. After a discussion with the Rep., we agreed on an Alpine unit, which although twice the price appears to also be twice the quality. Fine by me. If your unit turns on and you're OK with the sound then by all means get one. For me, however, the quality just isn't there. Vividly illustrates why I've bought from Crutchfield for 30+ years. Never the cheapest, but great customer service.

Pros: - Price - Size - Specs - Crutchfield support

Cons: - Multiple defective units - Tendency to require ridiculously high speaker levels to turn on

nice compact subwoofer, relatively high wattage

Dan from Huntington Beach, CA on 12/12/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this on Black Friday sale. I've never owned a subwoofer, but have watched online videos on what was needed to install before my purchase. I had purchased an installation kit from a box store about a year ago. The manual for the subwoofer states that it requires 10 gauge wire, the kit I purchased had an 8 gauge wire, and it did fit nicely. I wanted to install the subwoofer under the seat of my '94 Tercel, but it turns out the seat has in indentation towards the middle that prevents the subwoofer from fitting in. So then I had to mount it in the trunk, I cut a piece of plywood, and attached the subwoofer between the plywood, and the back of the back seat. I spray painted black the trunk side of the plywood. I pulled the power wire on the passenger side, and the signal wires on the driver's side. I pulled the remote wire under the center console. All in all the installation wasn't so bad, as the car itself is pretty simple without a lot of paneling etc. Now, for testing, I turned it on. And. Nothing. Pulled out the voltmeter, and the voltage was there, but no sound! The fix was that I had to put the slide switch to the right position!! But I still wasn't hearing much base! So what I ended up doing, I turned the subwoofer controls to the maximum, and I'm now using the remote to control the base level. I never had to turn it all the way up! So I'm very happy and pleased with the subwoofer, and next time it goes on sale I will most likely purchase one more!

Pros: small and compact, relatively high wattage compared to competitors, nice sounding!

Luscious sound stage

Nelson A from Miami, FL on 12/11/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought wholly on the recommendation of Crutchfield experts, the B-8PTD does everything that was recommended and then some. The sound stage created inside my cabin is thick and luscious, effortlessly communicating all my music's details in full glory. Unfortunately, the only bad thing about getting this unit installed is that it now shows me how poor my music files are.... since anything that is of mediocre quality will not be hidden by the system with this unit. I am very happy with the product.

Pros: power, definition, control and overall reproduction of sound feed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It' actually pretty good for its size. Mine is in the trunck of my Altima. So, I am loosing some effect due to that. So with that configuration I get a medium amount of low bass to supplement the music. I like having the volume knob to adjust the strength. I put the base up beside the rear quarter panel so it is totally hidden under the carpet. I could play with the adjustment but it seems I would like it to produce a tighter bass.

Pros: Size, volume knob

Cons: Not as tight bass perhaps.

I have a 2014 Nissan Frontier King cab truck and this was the perfect subwoofer for it. It fits nicely under the drivers seat and it gives me plenty of decent low end in that small cab. It certainly won't hit those low 20 hz notes but it is more than adequate for an 8" self contained powered subwoofer. I'm 47 and don't need my head put through the windshield from a 15" sub. It fills in where the 6x9 Alpines in the doors leave off. I recommend this to anyone that just wants some nice punch and low end added to their factory system.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had this installed for me in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I was hoping it would fit under one of the front seats, but no go (too tall ). Instead, placed it on the back lift cover. It is secure (brackets that came with unit are screwed thru the lift which is secure when door is closed. Snug enough not to be able to get fingers under to lift out- thinking about theft when top is off). The sounds is doing what I wanted it to - give a "fullness" sound. Gives a little thump, but nothing shattering. The bass control knob is nice to have to easily increase or decrease bass (verses navigating the stero for the equalizer).

Pros: Good sound, amp/speaker all in one

Cons: Didn't fit under seat

Did Not Last Me Long

Gil from Corona, CA on 10/10/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this for a little over 2 years with no issues and sounded great when it worked. Just a few months ago started to work intermittently. Checked all connections had power to them, fuse was ok and ground was tight. Called once and the guy was not able to help much but it did start to work while on phone with him but cut out again a few days later and said call back if not working again. Well now cannot get it to work at all. This was my first compact subwoofer and last buying Sound Ordnance. Very disappointed lasting only over 2 years. I thought it would last much longer and I am not a heavy user on it. Bass sounded great when working.

Pros:

Cons: Stopped working after little over 2 years

Perfect

Mighty 8th from Londonderry, NH on 10/9/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was amazed at the sound that this well consructed compact unit produced, it well exceeded my expectations in many ways, fit into the only secluded or hidden area i had, see I was trying for a stealth system in an antique vehicle but was really limited to what I can do 4" speakers were the only size that would fit so after listening to the system it was missing something I needed to figure this out and what to use I went on line and sure there were tons of this type of unit some were really cheap and the looked it, i decided to use this unit one as it was priced in my price range ( Crutchfields price was the best I could find) two the mounting dimensions once powered up it added a crisp clean bass tone to complete the somewhat tinny empty soulless sound of the small speakers and truly completed this system.

Pros: Almost infinitely adjustable from soft and supple to filling dropping, high and low inputs make the unit adaptable to any application, ruggedly constructed yet nice to look at, plenty of other adjustments to tune in what you are looking for, even impressed my 16 year old who now wants one in her car. versitle mounting, compact design, impressive profrmance

Cons: I have yet to fine any

Great way to round out a system in a tight space

World's best wife from Columbia, SC on 10/6/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my husband's 2006 GMC Sierra extended cab. He gives the following review: Once installed, this speaker is a great way to add depth to a rather minimalist system in a tight space. It easily fits under the rear seat. Installation is just like any other amp. If you've done it before or know anything about it, it's not bad. Just watch a how-to video online for your particular vehicle. Like any amp, it took me a while to get the gain and phase levels right. Having the remote level knob is a nice feature if you listen to a lot of different types of music. Overall, I'm very impressed with the bass output of this sytem given the price and size. For not too much, and over the course of a couple of years, I replaced all factory speakers with Pioneer, replaced the head unit, added bluetooth speakerphone, and added this sub. I sold my factory head unit for more than it cost to put in a decent single din unit.

Pros: Easy install. Good controls and features. Clear sound. Compact. Remote control. No ugly LED lights illuminating your vehicle at night. Does not knock your heart valves loose.

Cons: It's not a large wooden box dual sub sound.

Surprisingly good sound from small size!

Steve from Tucson, AZ on 10/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is just what I was looking for to add to my classic car audio system. Fits under the bench seat, nice and tucked away and gives a nice punch to otherwise dull sounding music. I didn't install the bass control as I didn't want to add any gadgets to my dash, I pretty much just set all controls midrange and left it as is. So far the sound sounds good, and I am happy with the quality of this little woofer/amp combo.

Pros: Easy to install, small size to fit under seats, Nice sound

Cons: I don't care much for the mounting brackets, the mounting points should be part of the enclosure. Limited bass due to small size, but I wasn't expecting to break any windows!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to love it, but it turns out that price and convenience only go so far. I read the positive reviews and went for it, but I don't completely agree. Sound quality is really just ok. Actually it's barely good enough for my taste. The last sub I ran (in another vehicle) was also an 8" in a small box (which I built to fit my car), but without the integrated amp. That unit had punch and no detectable distortion, until it started clipping at a very high volume. I've had to adjust the bass way down for this unit, as it distorts, seemingly, very easily. Maybe I just don't have it tuned correctly, so I play with it some more and change the rating accordingly.

Pros: Small Cheap Easy

Cons: Sound quality matches price

BUG from Prescott, AZ on 9/26/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great little sub. It fills the bottom end for pretty much all the music I listen to including classical, jazz, country, rock, and some bluegrass. It's paired with two coaxial Polk Audio 6.5" and two Kicker 6" x 9" coaxial three ways. The head unit is a Kenwood DDX 392 installed in a Ram 1500 regular cab. More may be needed for a larger cab, but this is awesome. I would not recommend it for those who crank maximum volume and want to share their hip hop with neighbors. I suspect the unit would max out and blow, but for me it is perfect!

Pros: Performance for price, easy install, tight sound when needed, booms when needed.

Cons: Not for those who want the car to vibrate and share bass with others going down the road.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I typically do not write reviews on products, but I felt inclined to do so with this purchase. I installed this powered subwoofer in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - 4 door. Like most people who drive Jeeps, I was not satisfied with the factory system sound. This was a great addition. The sound was exactly what i was looking to add to the existing factory system. Fit perfectly under the front passenger seat. I like the ability to make adjustments between different styles of music with the bass control switch. Installation was straight forward. Only issue I faced was that when i connected to the speakers wires, evidently there was not enough signal to turn on the unit. I ended up running a remote wire from a switched fuse for unit to turn on. Besides that, perfect product for what I was looking for. Crutchfield was great for sales and technical questions when I was looking to purchase product.

Pros: Great price, easy installation, good sound addition to a factory system, bass adjustment switch

Cons: Had to run a remote wire even though it was advertised as not needing one. Not a deal breaker, could have been isolated to my vehicle.

Great product. Fast shipping. Installation was a snap. The sound coming from this woofer is phenomenal. I've bought Sound Ordnance woofers before and was not afraid of buying this one. Pros: Small size. Great sound. Sturdy build.

Pros: Big sound little package. Added dial control is a plus for different types of music. Simple install, clear sound.

Cons: Only need just over 3" clearance to mount, but still too tall to mount under the seats in my gen 1 Tundra or gen 2.5 Montero.

Have had this sub for a couple of weeks now and I listen to mainly hip-hop; this sub does not hit as hard as a conventional subwoofer set up but it will definitely add some decent bass depth to your sound system. If you're looking for something that won't break the bank that'll give you decent bass, I'll recommend this.

Pros: For the price, will add good bass depth to your system.

Installed in a 2014 Ram 1500 Mega Cab. First off, there is nowhere to put it. It doesn't fit in the storage bins under the back seat, which is where I had hoped to place it. It also would not fit under the front seats(power seats, lots of wiring). So, the default location was on the transmission tunnel just aft of the center console. So, it's right out in the open, where I didn't want it. Other than that, it sounds pretty good and I like the "remote" gain control, and find that I use it a lot since I listen to many different types of music, and need to adjust often. Oh, and the unit would not turn on from the speaker leads. I had to run a remote wire to the fuse box.

Pros: Inexpensive, decent sound and volume for a small speaker.

Cons: Could not get the unit to turn on from the speaker leads; had to run a remote wire.

I decided on this powered sub after researching and reading several reviews. I've only had 10 inch and 12 inch subs before so I was somewhat skeptical if I would like the sound of an 8 inch. I won't be winning any competitions with this but that was not my intention. With that said I am extremely satisfied with this product. Especially considering the low cost

Pros: Ease of installation, quality of sound and low-cost

Cons: If you're after window shaking base, this is not what you want

So, I had a kid. I had to sell my Acura Integra and buy something a little more Dad-ish. I bought a Subaru Forester. Anyone that knows Subarus, knows the stereos in them are atrocious. I didn't want to put a sub in my trunk, because that would be defeating the purpose of my Dad-wagon. I had the Sound Ordnance B-8P in my Integra and was happy with that. I was a bit skeptical about the underseat subwoofers. I mean really, how could something that small sound even remotely decent, especially stuffed under a seat. I dropped it off at my installer, thats been in business for 30 years. He calls me 3 hours later to come pick up the car. When a guy that has that much experience in car audio says "Im actually shocked how good this sounds", you know you made the right choice. For the price, you cant beat it.

Pros: Best bang for the buck.

Cons: Low end bass isnt great, but Im not trying to blow ear drums, so who cares?

Bang for your buck

Jim from MD on 8/3/2016

I listen to mostly rap and reggae and the factory system in my Ford Escape didn't provide enough on the low end. You can't beat it for the price and size. I needed something that would fit under my driver's seat (no room anywhere else and I didn't wanna lose trunk space) so I got this. The bass is a little hollow for my liking. I don't know if that's because I'm used to 2 12 inch subs and a 1000 watt amp in a trunk. And being that it's speaker level in the bass always changes with the volume of the radio. Luckily it comes with the remote knob. When I turn up my radio I have to adjust the sub as well. I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue if you used RCA inputs but for my application that wasn't possible. All in all it's a good sub and I would buy again. I just recommended to my coworker so he could get more bass in his new car.

Pros: Price! having the remote right next to me is a life (and ear) saver. size is great, fit right under my drivers seat.

Cons: bass is a little hollow. still tinkering with that using the controls on the amp. being that it's speaker level instead of RCA (available on the amp but not applicable to me) the level of bass changes with the volume of the music when i turn it up so i have to adjust both radio and sub.

Hey. want to add a little thump to your system look no further. This thing is great. Not a competition sub by any means, but if all ya want is to add some nice bass to a factory replacement system this is the thing. I put it in the back of my extended cab silverado p/u . Pros: Great little sub. Install wasn't to bad just follow directions. I just like this alot.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put a new head unit in my 08 Honda Ridgeline (Pioneer 4200NEX, which is also fantastic). when i replaced the OEM head unit i also lost the OEM subwoofer, so I got the Ordinance to replace it, without going crazy on a sub, filling up too much of the back seat row. It claim to be an "under the seat model", but it doesn't quite fit completely, but it does tuck mostly out of the way. they give you the option of velcroing it down, which i tried first, thinking it would be easier to remove if i need to load the truck up, but I ultimately screwed it down which made an amazing difference to the sound. It vibrates the car! comes with a remote gain control which i have on the dash, so i don't have to go through menus to adjust it. I have the radio equalization profile set to "voice" for talk shows, then turn up the sub when listening to tunes. a great purchase for the money. I made the cable harness with some slack so i can move the unit to the passenger seat without disconnecting anything, simply by removing the 3 of the 6 mounting screws, if i need the room on the floor for cargo. another review said the gain control didn't do much. if you increase the gain out of the head unit and/or the 10dB gain adjust on the sub, the gain control will do plenty! It's not earth shattering base, but did restore the OEM sub function that i lost

Pros: great sound in a small package, lots of on-unit controls and a remote gain control

Cons: doesn't quite fit under the seat but not a big deal.

Like other reviews have said, this is not trunk rattling bass. It does do a good job of filling out the sound. The gain knob doesn't seem to do much. This is great for an open air cabin vehicle like a small truck or hatchback. It sounds great in my 2001 Mercury Cougar. I have some component speakers in the door and this sub and it makes a world of difference.

Pros: Discreet / easy to hide Compact / small Adds fullness to sound Takes a load off the door speakers so you get more volume out of the system

Cons: It's not more power than you need?

Exactly what I was looking for in a powered sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like (seemingly) everyone else that reviewed this sub, I can't say enough good things about it. -I replaced the stock system in my Taco with JBL speakers and a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS receiver. Sounded amazing but was lacking that extra oomph I wanted. I wasn't looking to have a system that I could enter into competitions, and I didn't want something that the neighbors could hear as I came down the street. Just wanted to round out the sound and give it some depth. I also wanted a powered sub because I didn't want to deal with installing amps in the limited space I have in the truck. -I considered JBL's 8-inch powered sub and then saw the Sound Ordnance. Talked to a Crutchfield advisor (love those folks!) and asked what the difference was (aside from the price). Without hesitation, he said there isn't a difference and there was no reason why I should spend the extra money for the JBL (altho it's a great product, too). -So, went for the Sound Ordnance and, holy amazing sound, Batman! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. After a couple of days of tuning, it really is astonishing how well this thing has supplemented my system. I listen to everything and no matter if it's Slayer, Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin, Thelonius Monk ... it all sounds awesome. Can't recommend this sub enough!

Pros: Great price, amazing sound, easy to install.

Cons: VERY minor quibble ... the Velcro strips that came with the sub's installation kit were only hooks (no hoops) so they were useless. Overall, though, no big deal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good sub. If you are a bass player and need to hear the actual sound of the bass and not just the pitch, this sub does the job very well. Like any sub, even after finding a middle ground, the crossover needs to be adjusted for some tracks. Such as 2097 from the wipeout XL ost. Very small, very durable, no noise from the unit itself, comes with mounts. Not for the oldschool rap muffled trunk sound. But still great for rap as well.

Pros: Small, clear sound, loud enough for more than comfortable listening volume inside a vehicle, good crossover, no cone distortion or surround distortion sound, RCA type inputs and normal speaker level inputs (with adapter), 2 mounts. After running wires through your car, it is easy to install. Very loud for the cost.

Cons: Need to buy power, ground, remote power wires. If not mounted, it slides all over the car before anything else does. Super low notes will be quiet compared to normal bass unless you adjust your crossover(s) sub and head for that track.

I bought this to replace my stock sub in my Honda Ridgeline. It is paired with a Jensen head unit. It fits under my back seat and I could have installed it under any seat due to its size. It has a sound a bit better than my stock unit did. It does not have the thump of a much more expensive unit just a nice solid low end. Wiring was simple and it works but its not included so you have to purchase an install kit but that is discounted and the kit made it real easy to install. I needed a splitter to get the mono sub output to connect to the two inputs on the sub. Very nice for the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While this may look like the Poor Man's sub, its quality and sound will say different. I installed it in about 4 hours and the process was made vastly easier by the removal of the drivers seat. The bulk of the time was taken up snaking the power, audio-pair and "on" wire through the center console area. I opted for the Rockford Fosgate wiring kit and its power, audio and grounding leads were perfect although you'll do yourself a favor by purchasing some 10AWG spade lugs, which fit the unit perfectly. My intent was to install the unit under the passenger seat but Toyota has a subassembly underneath, which prevents positioning the unit completely. My solution was to install the unit laterally and just rearward enough to allow fold-down of the rear seat platform. Whether the platform is up or down does not detract from the unit's power one iota. I will also mention the mounting brackets that came with the kit were pretty much useless and in the end, I attached the 2 male Velcro strips that were provided. They mate perfectly with the vehicle's carpet and prevent any unwanted movement. If you're looking for a lower-cost 8-inch powered subwoofer that sounds great, I highly recommend this unit.

Pros: Cost Sound Relative ease of installation

Cons: Mounting brackets that are provided

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really like the sound this little beauty puts out. Why 4 stars? The instructions are worthless. Could not get the thing to work. Several calls to tech support really not much help. Spent time reading the previous reviews to find the answer. Here is the bottom line. If you are going to tap into your speaker wires (stock head unit) and use the high power input, the amp may not detect the incoming signal and turn on automatically. Wiring to both rear speakers seemed to make the thing turn on occasionally, maybe more signal to detect. So if no luck using the high power input option, which I would try first, then go right to the RCA input option. In my case, tech did not tell me this, I got it from all the kind people who wrote useful reviews. How to fix? 1-get an add-a-fuse, put it in a 10 amp fuse in your fuse box, and run a remote wire from the fuse box to its hookup in the back of the unit, I put mine in the ignition fuse, so it is only on when the truck is on 2-get a line out converter and tap into the the speaker wires as before (I used quick splice connectors), make sure to respect proper polarity 3-now hook the rca cables from LOC to rear of unit and flip the front switch to remote. Should work now. Got all parts locally, but have seen them at the local car retail store, the local big box store, and of course right here at Crutchfield if you can wait . First install, really pretty easy, once I figured it out, but could have saved several hours with good directions or tech support.

Pros: Sounds great

Cons: Terrible directions

Nothing much I could add to what everybody else has said. Except maybe that if you're planning on installing this under a seat in a 1993 Toyota 4Runner, be prepared for a battle. I swear, Toyota designed those seats and adjusting mechanisms and floor boards and mounting points to specifically prevent the installation of an under-seat sub. No matter how I tried tweaking the sub and the seat, there was some piece of the seat about 1/4" out of whack. But after a week of experimentation, modification, and some amount of physical aggression and creative profanity, I got that sucker in there. And it was worth every minute of anguish - again, all on Toyota's seat design for that year's model.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works well, as stated before, connections for power wires could be larger of you have oo or larger wire already installed . Watch input level as just a slight increase can lead to distortion on bass.Fills in sound nicely where even upgraded sound bar speakers are lacking. I have head top on and really makes the Sony stereo Sound much more expensive and balanced than I would have believed. My wife drives a 2015 Volvo xc60 w/ upgrade factory system and I have 2016 Ford Explorer w/ ford upgrade stereo. This may not quite reach that level but you are also trying to make great sound in a "brick with a hard top" and not 1 drop of sound insulation so I believe I would easily recommend and buy again if this one ever fails. For the money you really cannot go wrong.

Pros: Great sound especially for price ,compact , looks very high end.

Cons: Connectors could be larger if you have larger than 8 gauge wire running, input level is critical for good sound. If you have setting for sub input on your head unit, follow instructions and set @1/2 max level, set input on sub where it sounds good, then fine tune with head unit for best sound .

Matched this with 2 pairs of 2-way polk audio speakers and an old Kenwood receiver. Nice solid bass without drowning out the sound from the other speakers. Just enough punch without annoying other cars at a traffic stop. Straight forward install but make sure you have all the hardware before you begin to save you multiple trips to your local car audio or hardware store in the middle of the install. What you'll need: Wires: - 2 sets of speaker wires if using the high level input (RCA cable for low level input) - 14 AWG minimum for 12V+ (red) and GND (black) - Remote turn on wire (blue) Other necessities: - connection terminals - heat shrink or electrical tape - zip or other cable ties Look elsewhere if you want earth shaking and windows rattling type of sub woofer. Glad I got one before it went out of stock

Pros: Small footprint, produces plenty of bass for the size, ample RMS power, easy install, solid build

Cons: No wires included. Much prefer including the necessary wires than promotion materials such as S/O dog tag and decal

Very nice! I was used to a separate 10" or 12" sub in the back seat of my 1998 F150. I could truly FEEL the subs. Didn't really have much faith in the sound ordnance unit that would fit under a seat but... Could that little thing do the job in the crew cab? Would I again have to sacrifice my back seats? I was pleasantly surprised. The connections were simple, the seats were not sacrificed and the performance was great. I just wanted a enough "thump" to round out my sound and it did that with plenty to spare. Don't get it twisted, its not a separate 12" sub butt hen again I'm not trying to be heard coming down the street anymore.

I have been getting my sound system to what I want but couldn't get the amount of bass from my audio system. I had a powered sub-woofer before so I went the same route. I didn't want to get deaf like some of the cars out there but enough to get a good bass thump! I have the amp under the pass. seat so I had to put it under the driver seat. After getting everything setup and tested, I tried seating on the seat to see if I could feel the bass but it was so minimal that you wouldn't know it's there. So perfect, you can hear the bass but not feel it! Anyone who want to just get that extra bass thump without installing a big amp and sub-woofer, it is the way to go! It was a little long for my seat but the rear mat covered up the end to hide the unit. It also comes with a remote to control the amount of bass you want without going to the unit to adjust! Awesome!

Pros: I love everything about this powered sub-woofer! Just amount of bass thump without going deaf! Awesome sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little sub surpasses my expectations. BMWs are notorious for having cabins that are a little too sealed off from the trunk. This makes traditional sub/amp combos a pain, because you're more likely to hear the bass outside of the car as opposed to inside. I was a little wary about the size and power this sub would have though. In short, my seats have zero room under them, so I chose to put this guy on my rear seat in the center. (no way you're fitting a 3rd person in the center rear seat of an e36 bmw anyways) The bass is solid, don't expect window shaking, but it will vibrate my seat a bit with certain songs. It has a mild vibration sound, overall I'd give the sound quality 4 stars. I'd prefer a little crisper hit, but the size and price make up for the short comings. I didn't think it'd be very loud so I actually bought two just in case, and I'll be sending the second one back or selling it to my friend, because one is plenty for my car. All in all, if you want to fill out the lows of any system, this is worth every dollar and won't sacrifice much space at all. If you want to shake windows, look for a "classic" full sized box. Hookup was very simple. (I used RCA cables) I'll definitely be using this in future cars. Great addition to any system, light, affordable, and small.

Pros: Small, surprising punch, light, half the price of other compacts, easy hook up, build quality seems very solid.

Cons: The velcro strips that come with it are junk. (small and don't grip anything), bass isn't AS crisp as I'd like (still quite good though), If you had to mount it under a seat or in the back, making adjustments other than bass level would be a pain (however, I'm a set it and forget it type of person so it works great for me)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I bought my 2-door 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport last year, I immediately upgraded the stock unit with a Kenwood KDC-X998 and added some Alpine speakers. Now I've added this sub, which I am very pleased with. I don't want to be heard coming from two blocks away; I just wanted some better bottom end while listening to the Prog Rock I favor. This sub is perfect for that. It fills my Jeep with sound, even over that normal Jeep roar you get at highway speeds. I virtually never run it at maximum, and even have to dial it back a bit on some songs. But, the wired remote I mounted on the center console near my right knee makes that easy. One caveat....I thought it would fit under the passenger seat but, that was a no-go. However, I just rotated the unit 90 degrees and anchored it in the foot-well behind the seat. We never have anyone ride in the back (in fact, I have removed the rear seat entirely and stored it in my garage), so it is not a problem. But, this may be something to consider if you have a Jeep with people in and out of the rear seat. Very pleased.

Pros: Great sound. Great price. Remote is nice.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what this item is, it's great. I can admit I was going into owning one with higher expectations though. This thing simply can not hit the lows that i wanted it to in my ford ranger. Someone in another review mentioned that it just 'disappears' when lows are playing, and that is true, it vanishes. The hz it can produce, aren't even really that loud. I had to turn the gain up all the way, to really even hear it... like i said for what it is , a small compact subwoofer that fits just about anywhere, its okay. but do not go in with high expectations like i did.

Pros: compact.

Cons: not very loud. Does not reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2008 Honda Accord LX-P sedan. Placed this under the passenger seat, used an EFX PA10BX wiring kit to connect it. Able to run wires via the center console to the stereo and out the lower edge of the console (covering the wires with plastic flex tubing), no need to use the mounting kit as it is snug under the seat and a floormat keeps it in place, left just enough slack to be able to move the seat forward and pull it out to adjust. Placed the inline volume/level adjuster by the front seat. Took about two weeks of tweaking with it to find the sound that worked best for me. More than enough power to fill the car with bass. Pretty impressive with most music so far, if you're a bass head this probably won't work for you but for anything other than deep 808s it does very well.

Pros: Easy install, controls are convenient to get to, lots of power for a small 8" sub. Compact enough to fit under the front seat.

Cons: Can't handle the deepest bass without a bit of rattle, but really, it is only an 8" sub.

I purchased this powered subwoofer along with a EFX PA10BX Wiring Kit from Crutchfield. I want to say I do not have any experience installing electronic devices, yet I was able to install this subwoofer in my Chevy Colorado in 30 minutes. Super easy installation. The subwoofer compliments my Kicker 43DSC6504 DS Series 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers. The bass the subwoofer produces is does not overpower the high and mid range sounds and it comes with an adjustable bass dial that I installed onto my center console beneath the steering wheel -- easy access to make adjustments. The sound is perfect for me as I do not like super thumping bass when listening to my music. The connection to my Pioneer MVH-X380BT receiver was super easy. All in all, I got a great deal for great sounds.

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to install.

Cons: None so far.

A Mixed Bag

Eric S. from williamsburg, VA on 2/16/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was torn between 2 or 3 stars. This sub is certainly loud, but not very accurate. For me (using factory stereo speaker leads as inputs) it seemed to make everything sound like a kick drum. With the 80-150 Hz crossover set as low as it would go, this sub still created a lot of the mid- and upper bass I was already getting from my factory speakers, so it was a case of it being a fine line between actually hearing the sub, and getting too much from the sub. I returned my S/O sub for the Kicker Hideaway and have been Much happier despite the jump in cost. Also, I had an issue with the the S/O sub not triggering on automatically (as it should have done) from just my speaker level inputs. It was inoperative 75% of the time. Have had no trouble at all with the Kicker auto-turning on via the same speaker leads, and am much happier I spent the extra money, but this S/O sub has some redeeming features. Give it a try, if it works well for your application, great! If not, Crutchfield is very good about returns and is a factory-authorized Kicker dealer, so you can trade up with peace of mind.

Pros: Very solidly constructed, well designed connections, dog tag included in the box, and a cool B-17G drawing is on the container box. The infinitely variable phase control allows fine-tuning of this critical parameter. Can be turned up loud. The level control is very discreet and looks great.

Cons: Didn't switch on consistently, not much nuance or low bass, even at low volumes and with crossover as low as it would go (80 Hz). Makes most everything sound like a kick drum. Wiring connections are on both ends rather than restricted to one end of the enclosure.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This powered sub was a piece of cake to install. It fits perfectly under my truck seat and provides enough bass to not only hear it, but feel it. You won't be winning any competitions with this sub, but it will do a whole lot better than any factory sub that comes with your car. I like that fact that it is an 8 in because it is a nice and tight sounding bass. The bigger the sub, the more sloppy it sounds in my opinion. I prefer the tighter more controlled base and this 8 in delivers that. The base control nob is great and I really don't have any complaints. It feel solid and weighs a decent amount. It is nice to have the added base in my truck without having to take up an extra seat. I almost bought another brand and I am glad that I didn't.

Pros: Tight bass Easy install Perfect for under truck seat Hits decent for size

Cons: I really don't know of anything except maybe make it hit a little harder?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited due to the limited space. It fit nicely under the passengers seat. Installation was pretty straight forward. Nothing complicated. I used the line-in for a signal as I installed this with a stock stereo. Sound is pretty good for a unit this size. I was very surprised. However, it tends to be very overpowering and not very "tight". Might be better if I was using RCA inputs. The remote volume is nice but the assembly is kind of cheap. In my previous vehicle (super duty crew cab) I used a Kenwood 12" sub in a Sound Ordinance enclosure with a 600 watt Kenwood amp. This sub is nothing like that, but I'm learning to live with it. It really adds some much needed bass.

Pros: compact size, easy install, pretty fair sound for the money

Great Sub for the Money and Space

Kevin from Atlanta, GA on 1/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little subwoofer. I installed it in my 2016 wrangler 4 door. The main issue I had with the installation was trying to use the high level inputs. Apparently this is a common issue. Once I installed a line out converter with rca's and a remote turn on lead it worked perfectly. I could have saved a few hours troubleshooting the installation if I would have known that in advance. One interesting thing is the line out converter I used is auto sensing and provides a remote turn on lead. It works perfectly. So the issue is clearly the auto turn on built in the subwoofer. I guess that's how they keep the price so low. Because of that, I can't give this woofer 5 stars. So if you buy this sub, also use a line out converter if using your factory speakers. Do not use the high level inputs.

Pros: Size. It's tiny and priced right.

Cons: The high level inputs don't work very well.

I bought this subwoofer because I wanted something compact that would fit in my Miata. This fits neatly in the passenger footwell. I am very impressed with the bass output. I have some dialing-in to do, as I simply turned all the knobs on the unit to halfway, and even without properly setting it up, it complements my 6.5" Polks very well. I barely have the volume on the remote turned up at all and it provides more than enough bass. The price was great, too.

Pros: Extremely small profile, easy to set up, very good bass output for its size, and a low price.

Cons: None I can think of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2015 Wrangler 2 door with stock non-Alpine radio. I replace the head unit, speakers, and added this Sub for a little bass. I listen mostly to rock, hard rock, little country, and a little pop. This will NOT fit under the seat of the 2 door wrangler due to the seats spring mechanism. I mounted it to the tailgate using the supplied mounting brackets with no issue. I have the tuffy security enclosure which makes the back area basically a car trunk. After install was complete I actually like it better there than under the seat. I would rate sound quality as excellent for all rock (you can really feel the kick drum), excellent for all country, and great for most pop. This will not satisfy those looking for booming bass for rap music. Overall I am very happy with the purchase with no regrets.

I have an 2015 F350 crew cab and this was the perfect solution to the lack of bottom end from the factory system! I tapped into my rear speakers and used a line converter to be able to use the rca jacks on the subwoofer. I highly recommend doing it this way and not just run speaker wire into unit. I liked that it fit right behind the rear seat on the floor. I just relocated the jack. You have to play around with the adjustments a bit and then it sounds great! Don't expect the windows to rattle cause it wont do that. Don't forget the wiring kit. Bass control works great! We will see how long it lasts.

I was NOT expecting this thing to sound as good as it does. It filled out all of the frequencies I was missing after my Christmas speaker upgrade. Honestly, I don't think I could tell a difference between the SO sub and one costing twice as much (which is what I was considering). This is a perfect way to finish up a budget-minded stereo upgrade without sacrificing much if anything. It fits neatly under my seat, the volume control mounted in the center console within easy reach (the pot comes out of the stock plastic case and can be mounted against a switch blank, if you have one), and matches my needs for the car's system perfectly. Not too much, not too little.

Pros: Ease of installation, sound quality, size.

Cons: Plastic chassis is the only thing I can think of, and that's picking nits.

I drive a 2000 GMC sierra that still looks brand new. I'm real fussy about it's maintenance. The truck has a premium sound system that works fine with a replacement Sony Blue Tooth radio but when driving down the road it was lacking enough bass response. I wanted something that could reinforce the bass but not a competition thumper. After looking at a lot of powered sub woofers this one fit the bill for taking very little space under the rear seat behind the driver and does a lot better job than I expected. It can even produce too much clear bass than I needed. Great little unit!

Pros: A lot of bass from a compact unit.

Cons: The power terminals could be better but they work.

Tried a fuse tap per Crutchfield tech support. Same problem. Had to return the unit. Lesson learned: If it's not plug and play, I don't want it. When someone comes out with a system to fit my truck at a reasonable price where all my features work to include rearview camera and everything is plug and play, I will be interested. Until then, I must listen to my stock system. My recommendation is, if you want a sub, make sure your head unit has dedicated RCA connections for your sub; don't bother trying to connect it to speaker wires of your stock head unit.

Pros: Crutchfield tech support. MasterSheets.

Cons: Would only work intermittently when installed per instructions.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty happy with this subwoofer. Installation wasn't a big deal on my 2010 Forester, just removed the seat to make it much easier. This unit is not a replacement for a much larger subwoofer, but it does provide better sound than I was expecting considering the size and price. It can shake my mirrors and delivery some decent "punch", but it won't shake the next car over. The sub sounds flawless for bass heavy pop and the like. Metal (which I listen to mostly) makes the sub struggle a little, so an external sub eq would help out. However, the sound quality is still good enough that most people won't need to bother with this extra equipment. After playing with the settings on the sub and my head unit, I was able to get metal sounding fairly crisp.

Pros: -Compact -Well Priced -Good sound quality

Cons: -Would like to see an on board multi-band eq (not really a big deal if your head unit has a decent eq and some sub tuning settings)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not worth the money in my opinion. It does not reproduce "sub" bass notes (30hz to 80Hz range) so I'm not sure how it can be called a subwoofer. It does have pretty good punch for drums but will not hit the low notes. I have a less expensive computer speaker system with a 22 watt ported 6" subwoofer that outperforms this unit in every way. It also had a cheap sound to it ... as if you could tell it was mounted in a plastic box. I've heard several 8" subs that sound way better than this one. I ultimately returned the unit and purchased an amp and sub separately and built my own box ... custom fit to the truck. This is much more time consuming and cost about twice as much but it is so worth it.

Pros: Small, easy to install, connect & setup. The controls (gain, crossover, remote bass control, etc. ) all worked just fine.

Cons: Poor Performance ... does not reproduce low bass notes and sounds cheap.

Perfect fit for 2015 Forester.

This sub puts out a lot more punch than I expected for the price. Installation couldn't be easier. I installed it in a 2015 Subaru Forester, under the passenger seat. You have to remove the passenger seat for the installation, but once the seat is out, it fits into a compartment there like it was made for it. Wired remote is nice.

Pros: Fit my application like it was factory installed.

Cons: Mounting brackets kind of a pain. Suggest using stereo controls for tuning.

Pros: Easy installation, great bass for 8", fits under passenger seat, great price for amount of bass

Cons: Took a while to fine tune but that's nothing against the product, the auto tune isn't good at all

Fits just fine under the driver seat of my 2009 Subaru Impreza. Plenty of volume. The frequency response only goes down to 40 Hz. It will not reproduce the low bass notes you want to hear. I returned it for the comparably sized Kicker (which also fits in the same location). I am much happier with the Kicker over this model. To summarize, get this if you don't like bass, get the Kicker if you want to hear the rest of the bass in your music.

Pros: Ease of installation. Compact size. Good volume.

Cons: Does not reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz.

Best Boom for Buck !!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed box under rear seat of 2002 toyota tundra . Great sound and when installed correctly will give people the idea you have a 10 inch sub .Installed using a Kenwood deck with separate sub controls I used no filtration on the sub box enclosure itself. Allowing me to use the head unit for all filtration of sound giving me a well balanced system with amazing bass enough to shake both front seats I also mounted directly to the floor pan of the vehicle with a solid firm connection ,this is key to get big sound and feel. The driver needs to push and pull if you just lay it on the floor it to will cancel out half you sound . I would never use high inputs on anything so I can't speak for those who want to but I would not expect my result with high input used. Gain control knob works great especially when watching movies so you can turn down the boom for the kids on the fly . Great product ,I would buy again.

Pros: Small size ,just enough power for size. Price

Cons: Mounting brackets should not be plastic, and should come with self tapping screws.

I have a 1998 Jeep Wrangler and it fits perfect under the rear seat. Really my only option for bass because of limited space in a Jeep and I won't have to worry about theft because it's hidden. I installed speakers as well and this sub fills in the bass that the small speakers lack. This is definitely a good product if you have limited space in your vehicle.

overall this product is great and simple to install. The bass is very good and sounds great in my jeep. It is enough to help fill out my heels sound system. It will not rattle your teeth but it will do plenty and give you the low end you need.

Pros: Size, easy to hook up. Sound is good.

Cons: Needs better install options as the double sided tape was not going hold this.

I wanted more bass on my sound system but I did not want to use the space in the trunk of my 2003 CR-V. I put the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 125-watt compact powered sub-woofer under the front passenger seat. It works great and now I have that great bass that I wanted.

Pros: It sounds great and it can be hidden under almost any seat.

Cons: I wish the wire remote could be installed in one of the dash extra holes. Like the one for fog lights.

Put under driver's seat in 2008 accord coupe to get a big sub box out of trunk. Performs just as good if not better than the 300 watt it replaced (12in jbl with bridged dual amp). Setup and adjustment was easy, just make sure to make adjustments to the sound before placing under the seat as it is a tight fit on this car. Cheers.

Pros: Compact, powerful, easy setup, affordable

Cons: None yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had my subwoofer for over a year until it decided to stop working. Luckily, with the 3 year warranty and amazing customer service at crutchfield, I was able to have the thing replaced. After a 5 minute phone conversation with tech support, I had another of these subs on the way. Just need to pack up the old one and send it off; no questions asked! The sub itself does what it says it can do. It fits under the back seat of my truck, projects throughout the entire cab, and will shake my side mirrors if the gain is all the way up. If you're on a budget like I was, this is the way to go. I just wish other people could hear the bass from my truck, but you won't get that from a subwoofer this small. Overall 4/5 stars. Good for people who aren't familiar with sound or if this is your first install.

Pros: Compact, good bass for small cab, cost effective, great warranty

Cons: Won't wake the neighbors

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this until to fill in some bass on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler 4-door. This unit more than fills the bill. I have an aftermarket head unit, with stock speakers. My original plan was to upgrade the stock speakers, but I'm getting such a good overall sound out of this, I think I might just stick with the setup as is - very pleased. This unit fits perfectly under the passengers seat of the Jeep - out of sight, yet really fills the cabin with a nice deep base sound, that even thumps a little bit. Couldn't be happier with the sound, especially for the price. In retrospect, I'd have paid easily double the cost to get the sound I have. I get lots of compliments from passengers on the sound. This sub of course is no substitute for a speaker box and big amps. If you are looking for a real hard hitting bass system, this isn't it. If you are looking for a compact, inexpensive package that can easily be hidden and really fill in some sound, look no further. Having this sub, allowed me to use the high-pass filters built into my head unit. It took about an hour of tweaking the various high pass/low pass filters and the subwoofer output. Take the time to set this correctly, and you'll love it.

Pros: Great sound, inexpensive, hides under the seat easily.

Cons: None

Fill in the lows!

hugh dogg from Virginia on 9/24/2015

If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you! I installed this in a 98 Jeep Cherokee. My hope was that it would fill in the low tones that the smallish after-market speakers I put in couldn't produce. Boy does it ever! I placed it on the floor board of the rear drivers side. There isn't quite enough room to tuck it under the seat in a Cherokee. There are controls on the unit for frequency and other things beyond my knowledge. I fiddled with them until I got the sound I was looking for. Then there is the remote knob that you can attach within reach of the drivers seat to adjust the general degree of bass up or down. This function is critical for getting the sound just right depending on the style and production of your jams. I did the install myself which was pretty straight forward and took about 3 hrs and a bit of online video viewing. I'm fairly novice with this stuff too so as you know. I would describe my set up as very entry level after-market with a basic Dual receiver, a couple of budget Kicker 2ways in the rear and the Sound Ordnance sub. It can handle way more sound than I would ever demand of it. If you don't need a head-turning amount of bass and you want to keep it simple, compact and budget-friendly, this is the product for you!

Pros: Very compact Lots of adjustment options Remote control 2 year warranty

Cons:

Simple install Simple concept Great value sub/amp combo This little guy works great under the rear seat in my F150 SuperCrew. It delivers very nice output for the size and price. The remote gain is great for when kids ride along. Just the right amount of adjustments on the amp to get the pop/punch/boom you want for the music you like to listen to. Works really well with the Kenwood 2DIN receiver i put in. For the amount and ease of installing, you really can't beat the cost/performance ratio. Recommended

Pros: sound performance size control price

Four stars...would have been five but my unit quit after three years. This unit was easy to hook up. It was my first time ever installing an amp kit. Also Crutchfield support was awesome in helping me figure out the oem speaker wires to splice into when installing this unit. It worked great. It took time to adjust the settings as I thought slight adjustments made a huge difference both good and bad. I put it behind my seats in my 2011 Crew Cab F350 and yes this doesn't rattle windows of near by houses but surprisingly it can thump inside a car and I think it's the perfect balance of excess vs usability. So why am I reviewing now? Well I bet my unit's failure was a fluke and I'm getting ready to order another one. You can't go wrong with this unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An Amazing little sub for the price (and the Size!). I was happy to spend so little cash to put a sub in my boyfriend's Prius-C hatchback. This little guy fits charmingly under the front seat and produces considerable bass for such an adorable little fellow. However the inputs are a bit twitchy...the volume has to be nearly maxed out to kick the sub on, and at a reasonable volume with two people in the car, it will randomly drop in and out. Some songs/volumes will not activate the sub at all, even though the door speakers are vibrating in their enclosures. Overall I'm satisfied with it, but if you're not able to replace a modern car's overly-fancy head-unit to a unit with direct sub input, this sub's decision for when is a good time to be switched on leaves a lot to be desired. Also our first unit was defective. :( Crutchfield customer service was amazing (had a new one out that afternoon) but I don't think anything will make up for spending 4 hours face-down under the rear seat of a hatchback only to find you've installed a defective subwoofer.

Pros: Great sound, tiny adorable size, solid construction

Cons: "auto on" feature is twitchy at best

I installed this in the spare tire hatch in the back of my SUV. It's very compact, but really lacks the range, and oomph I wanted. Steve from Georgia on 8/27/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been looking at an Amp/Sub combo for a long time for my 2013 Ford Escape because I wanted some base added to the factory radio. It took me a while because I was skeptical that they would really give me any good base sound. I chose the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD to fit under one of my seats. Well... it did not fit under either seat... so I started looking elsewhere. I found a perfect spot in the spare tire compartment that had an indentation that seemed to be made for it. I hooked it up per the instructions using the high-level input (from the rear speakers) and the auto-on feature. When I tried it.. it seemed to work sometimes and sometimes not. After a couple calls to Tech Support (those guys know their stuff) I had to connect the "Remote On" terminal to the ignition. It works great now. Not a thumping base but a good addition to the factory radio.

Pros: Great addition to factory radio.

Cons: None

Brandon from Texas on 8/12/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

my recommendation is that you make sure you can fit this under your seat. i thought i would be able to but i had to install it in the trunk. for me, the bass was not nearly enough. also, this sub seems to have a little extra response somewhere around the 100-150 hertz range and the effect of that is that the bass drones a little bit when you have the volume up, which was annoying to me. in the trunk: i'd give this 3 stars. if you can put it under your seat, it's probably more of a 4 star product. it's not meant for crushing bass, but it will absolutely fill out the low end of your system and makes all music sound better.

Pros: very compact, easy to tune, fills out low end response for balanced sound.

Cons: Bass response was underwhelming. not loud enough from the trunk.

Take your time and dial it in!

BenzVette from Bellevue, Washington on 8/11/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed to replace my Kenwood flat panel powered sub (it was a good sub, but the speaker just wore out). Wanting a slimmer profile, I googled "powered flat panel subwoofers" (8" & 10"). I read reviews. Read more reviews, checked out forums and you know what, there's something negative to say about them all. It's weeding through the thicket and understanding what I needed for my application (1978 Corvette). I picked up a 10" online (another brand), and never hooked it up (1/2-1" too tall for where I was mounting; vertically on the back cargo wall). So digging the reviews on the Sound Ordnance, I logged into my Crutchfield account and ordered the B-8PTD. It arrived quickly and was packaged to withstand any Jim Carey attempt to deliver a UPS package! I purchased a 8-gauge wiring kit (Crutchfield) and quickly went to town installing my new sub. Installed and ready to go, I pulled up AC/DC's Back in Black album for some classic rock testing. I'm going to be honest, I know better but I was expecting perfection out of the box. It sounded horrible! Just lack luster. But after hours, days and a week later I dialed that sub in for some awesome hard hitting base! (now to clarify, this is NOT a window shattering sub. If you want that, buy that type. But you will get good solid base that fills the void and if you do it right, feel it!). You need to adjust the EQ on your head unit, then the sub. Then back to the EQ, etc. Take your time and use a variety of music. You'll thank yourself!

Pros: Great Packaging. Quality build. Powerful.

Cons: More Power (just kidding). But more is always better right?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with this powered sub. I used to think you needed a giant box with a sub to get the deep tones, but now that I am getting older (and wiser) I don't have the room or need for that kind of setup. I installed this unit under my passenger seat of my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Install was straight forward after researching where to run the wires to reach the battery. I have this sub paired with an aftermarket head unit from Pioneer and aftermarket speakers. The best feature for me is the included wired remote. This makes it easy to change the level of bass depending on your music selection. This is also very handy if I have the top off the Jeep since I can increase the level quickly if needed, whether I am on an open road or need to bring it down through a neighborhood. At first I was hesitant if this powered sub could produce the sound I now desired, and I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this to anyone.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was surprised at the performance of this powered subwoofer. For my application, I installed it in the trunk of my Goldwing motorcycle. The Goldwing is known for not having a decent factory radio system. I have upgraded the receiver, the factory speakers in the dash and added aftermarket speakers in the rear arm rest. But, still lacked bass. Next, I added an amplifier to the four speakers and this powered subwoofer. Holy #!, the bass was far more then I expected! I have the powered sub turn down quite a bit to match the rest of the system. I have not tried any other subs in this configuration, but it seems to work well. I would recommend this powered sub to be considered. I cannot rate at 5 stars since I have only had the powered sub for a couple weeks.

Pros: Easy installation, came with wiring instructions, price seems fair, compact, remote adjustment for bass level.

Cons: I do not have a con at this time since I have not had the powered sub installed and in use for any length of time.

Can't beat it for the money. I have a Pioneer AVIC 5000NEX head unit playing through factory speakers and this subwoofer. Rounds out the bottom end nicely, and can hit decently well for its size when cranked up. I got a new '15 Jeep Wrangler a few months ago and felt like it was lacking quite a bit in the bass department. I had an Infinity Basslink that I pulled from my previous vehicle - and even though it is a powered sub, it was still a bit bulky for my 2dr JK. I decided to try this B-8PTD since it was popular amongst the Jeepers, and installed it last night. It really does fill the Jeep nicely with lows. I have the stock headunit too, running off of a line out converter. Eventually I'll upgrade my head unit and it'll sound even better. I'm still trying to figure out the adjustments on the sub but it may take a little while to fine tune, just like any amp. Very satisfied!

I initially purchased one of these to replace another cheapo powered sub/box combo I bought online. After speaking with Crutchfield sales chat, I was reluctant to try another one, but gave it a shot anyway. This one fit perfect in the back corner of my 1994 BMW 540iT wagon behind the access panel. I wanted something hidden from view, but added some fill to my Infinity Kappas running off a JVC receiver. I have had this one for almost 3 years now with zero issues. I bought my wife a 2005 BMW X5 recently and it came with the stock lower end system without a factory sub. It sounded fine but was lacking bass. I went right back to Crutchfield and bought another one, mounted it in the exact same spot as my old 540iT and she is happy again. Happy wife, happy life. Just last week I purchased yet, another one of these and put it behind the rear seat of my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. Again, I like bass, but I hate advertising that I have subs in there. My truck previously had a box in there when I bought it which was removed by the previous owner. Another happy purchase! I would buy this assuming you aren't looking to rattle everything around you, but just to add nice fill without taking up any space. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a bit more out of their system.

Pros: Size! It packs a punch for how small its packaging is. It's been dead reliable going on 3 years now.

Cons: Isn't going to shake your organs loose by any means, it can't defy physics.

Exactly what I needed

James from Florida on 7/5/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub sounds very good for its size and eliminates the need for a large enclosure and separate amp. It adds a good musical sounding low end to my system without taking up a lot of space. I installed it in my 2001 Dodge Dakota Club Cab and the sub fit perfectly in the space on the transmission tunnel between the back side of my center console and the front side of the tool tray under the back seat. The sub does not obstruct the movement of the front seats and does not interfere with the tool bag and socket set in a plastic case I carry in the rear floorboards behind my front seats. I used the supplied Velcro to keep the sub from sliding around but the fit is just snug enough to hold it in place. The sound quality really is very good; the sub added back the low end that has been missing from my system for a long time. It won't shake my mirrors or wake the neighbors but it does produce very musical and accurate sub bass. I have a Pioneer MVH-X370BT deck and used the sub RCA outputs to the amp which gives a lot better control over the sound of the sub than the supplied volume knob. This sub is an excellent value and will add some good low end without taking up a lot of space, just don't expect it to rattle your windows. I listen to mostly classic rock and the B-8PTD really does add some good punch to my sound quality. I wired it with 8 gauge power and ground wire and it runs very cool, the heat sink was just barely warm even after 45 minutes of testing. It's a very good sub!

Pros: Small size should fit most anywhere. Runs cool and has excellent low end for an 8" sub. No need for a giant enclosure or large amp taking up valuable space in a smaller interior. It restores a necessary element of excitement to the music. The sub is fairly heavy for its size and appears to be very well made.

Cons: The included volume knob did not really do much for my system. I tried it with and without the volume knob and got a lot better sound control and bass output by using the sub out RCA's on my deck.
