Built like a tank

The M2-8SVC 8" subwoofer comes with a tough glass fiber cone that will keep its shape when the music's turned up, so your bass stays accurate. The butyl rubber surround helps keep the woofer's movement on track, and it'll stay pliable for years to come. The stamped steel basket provides a stable home for the whole assembly, so your bass plays the way it should. Also, Sound Ordnance backs up this sub with a 3-year warranty, giving you peace of mind while you're rocking hard.

Q
Hows the mid bass/vocals? I noticed these go all the way up to 1500hz. Do they breakup hitting those higher frequencies?

I've only had the subwoofer and stereo in a couple of days. I'm still adjusting the equalizer and other settings to my liking. So far the speaker has demonstrated no distortions. The mid range and bass are very clear...not muddy at all. I understand what other reviewers mean when they comment that the factory amp in the Avalon doesn't push the speaker...it feels like it can be pushed a lot more- but I'm ok with it as is...I'm not looking to go deaf.

My crossover is set at about 300 hz. I dont use it for mid bass. I use it as a substitute sub, when I need more trunk space.

These may go as high as 1500, but there is too much break up at around 250 hz. They are designed to be subwoofers, therefore the parts are robust, making them too slow for mids and above... Hope this helps.

Q
I have an older Kenwood KAC-746 4ch amp. The manual says I can bridge at 100w @ 2ohms. Will this amp power one or two of these subs in 2, 3, or 4ch mode? Basically looking to use the old amp in addition to the one built in to my truck.

Hi Jose, One last thing. I checked the specks for your amp... In the bridged mode it has 100 watts x 2... 4 ohm stable. So depending on how you wire your speakers you can run more than two, but it really complicates matters. I suggest use the amp in the bridged mode and use two of the sound ordinance 8's in a sealed box. Easy to build and sounds great. Jim

Hi Jose. This amp will run four of these speakers in the four channel mode. If you bridge it, it essentially becomes a two channel amp. Usually a four channel amp is 2ohm stable and when bridged the are stable to 4 ohms, not always, but typically. So I would take the safe approach and only run two in the bridged mode. Be sure to use the lo pass on the amp and set it at around 100 hz to start. Also turn the gain all the way down to start off then 'roll' it in slowly till you like the way it sounds. Hope this helps. THis was not an issue for me. I actually stripped the connections off to expose the wires, because it has a positive and negative. It sounds good in my 02 Tahoe

I had no issue when I replace the Sub in our 2002 Avalon XL, just make sure you get the wires connected properly to match the impedance or the other speakers. It will work either way but will sound better if all are in sync. You will be able to tell by listening, if it does not sound correct just reverse the wires.

If you are saying your vehicle has two wires connected to the current subwoofer, then this unit will work fine. If your vehicle has 4 wires connected to the existing subwoofer then you have a Dual Voice Coil setup. Most aftermarket amplifiers will allow you to bridge the two outputs into one (two wires) for a SVC speaker. Some OEM radios will allow you to just connect one pair of speaker leads. If you have a DVC setup (4 wires) currently, you can find nice DVC subwoofers on the Crutchfield site.

NO this will not be a issue

Do I have to have a powered amp, crossover or anything else to power this speaker on my aftermarket deck?

Mitch, I replaced the factory sub in a 1998 Ford Expedition. The factor amp was existing and I would assume the crossover was built into the amp. I would say yes you would. Good luck.
