1991 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Installation was simple, plug and play with provided wiring connectors. Inexpensive, just don't expect amazing sound. A good basic replacement for factory speakers.

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to install

Cons: Manage expectations. These are a basic, not high performance, speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two sets of these speakers to replace the stock ones in my 2005 Accent hatchback. All four speakers were well worth the money! The speakers were tested with the stock receiver, and with an aftermarket receiver. Results were of course better with the aftermarket receiver but either way the improvement was huge.

Pros: - Very affordable - Easy install - Good sound including moderate bass - Extremely good sound for the price.

Cons: - Not an extremely rich variance of sound but still good.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stereo system on my daughter's 1st car with a head unit with up to date features -and- and set (front and rear) of these Sound Ordnance P-52 speakers. My initial impression is they are great little speakers......not just far and away better than the OEM set which they replace, but a solid performers in comparison to any quality aftermarket speakers. I did not set out to build a custom system, but replace the OEM hardware with quality updated components and these speakers work quite nicely. My daughter is very happy and impressed with the results. I hope their long term durability match the quality of 1st impressions.......but these are definitely a RECOMMENDED BUY in my opinion.

Pros: A lot of quality and great sound for the money

Cons: The Scosche adapters were a little too non-specific for my installation application.......making installation more difficult than it should have been in my opinion. Regardless, the SO P52s went in just fine and this may be due to the popularity (or lack thereof) of our vehicle and the limited choices available for it.

The speaker sound quality for the price is outstanding, but you are left on your own to figure out how to properly disassemble the packaged speakers as they come and then install them.

Pros: great sound

Cons: lack of clarity regarding the proper installation, especially because I had to use a bracket. When retrofitting new model speakers into older vehicles, the instructions need to be clear, especially where using a bracket is concerned. I had to call tech support twice before figuring it out on my own.

I needed a 5 1/4 in speaker due to lack of space for anything larger. They won't blow you away but for their size they sound good.

Cons: Bass could be stronger but that is what you give up for the smaller size.

These are a great replacement over the stock speakers in my Toyota Matrix. I always thought that the stock ones were fine until I decided to try something different. I wanted to upgrade the stereo in my son's 1996 Jeep Cherokee. So I ordered a new Kenwood deck and the P-52 5 1/4" speakers for the front doors. Once installed the sound difference between the front and back speakers was quite noticeable. The P-52's sounded way better. They are not bass monsters, but they are a huge step up from the stock paper speakers. I would recommend these to anyone on a tight budget looking to upgrade from older stock speakers.

Pros: Way better than the older stock speakers. and the price was right!

Cons: None for the price I paid.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

From all the good reviews I thought the sound would be decent, but these speakers are seriously lacking in the bass department. Also they require much more volume to match the loudness of the factory speakers they replaced. For just a few dollars more I should have just went with a set of Kenwoods. I have used speakers in the same price range from other manufacturers and they were much better than these.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Requires Much more volume to reach the same loudness as other speakers and they lack bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Glad I bought the Sound Ordinance P-52 speakers. Replaced 4 door-mounted speakers in my 2000 Audi A6 with the P-52's. The original Bose speakers were toast after 14 years, and the P-52's were a welcome upgrade for short money. And their sound quality is exceptional for the low price.

Pros: + Good sound quality - better than the originals when they were new! + Easy install - the provided adapters were golden, allowing the 5 1/4 inch P-52's to mount into the 5 1/2 inch mounts from the original Bose speakers. + High quality product, clean manufacturing + Low cost

Cons: + 4 Ohm P-52's replacing 2 Ohm Bose speakers, lost some volume ... but that's acceptable. + 2-way P-52's combined with factory tweeters makes for stronger highs than desired. + a little weak on the low end, but they are 5 1/4 inch speakers :-)

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought four of these speakers to replace the stock speakers in my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix as the rear ones no longer worked and the ones in the door made a rattling sound. These were easy to install and fit into the stock speakers holes perfectly. They sound great, however, you can't push the volume too hard with these otherwise some distortion will occur. I can't say that's really too much of a con considering how little I paid for them. Overall, I'd say if you're on a tight budget but want to replace those crappy stock car speakers then these speakers are the right choice!

Pros: - Good sound - Can handle some descent volume levels - Fit in my car perfectly.

Cons: Some distortion occurs at really high volumes (especially when playing songs with heavy bass), but considering the price of these speakers this minor con can be easily overlooked.

Installed the P-52 in the doors of my son's 95 Chevy S-10 Regular cab pickup. Installation went well using the free installation kit they came with the speakers. The speakers are complimented with a pair of Polk audio's in the Dash that I purchased from Crutchfield over the summer. I am surprised how well they sound and you can't beat the price and confidence you get buying from Crutchfield. Thanks!

Pros: Quality, price, free installation kit, peace of mind dealing with a reputable company

Cons: I have to say, none.

1995 Pontiac Firebird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a pair of these speakers to replace the front speakers in my 1995 Pontiac Firebird Formula with the 10 speaker system. With the adapters included with my purchase they were an easy install and compared to my factory speakers definitely made of better materials. My factory speakers were 6 1/2 and these are 5/14 meaning I needed the mounting adaptor kit to install them. I was able to use a combination of the original OEM mounting and the adapter to make these almost a factory install. Their performance definitely exceeded the blown OEM originals (whose cones had separated from the frame!) The wiring harness adaptor provided no fuss connection to the factory head unit. My car has separate tweeters in the door which I removed as they were also blown. I may replace them with a set of component tweeters as my car has separate leads for them that would work with the harness adaptor Crutchfield provides. I mention that because due to the way the P-52's mount in my door the stereo imaging is a bit off and I have to balance the outputs so that the remaining OEM rear speakers (6 of them) don't drown these out. They're a bit quiet but have a decent bass response and aren't at all brassy or overly bright. But I think the lack of the separate tweeter in my application has a lot to do with the imaging. Not a product fault, more of an installation reality using OEM locations. All in all I'm happy with this product.

Pros: Better materials used than OEM speakers. Good bass\mid response from such a small speaker. Doesn't become one big tweeter like many smaller speakers do. Attractive design and easy installation in minimal clearance applications.

Cons: At least in my application, the speakers are a little on the quiet side and don't provide quite the punch of a larger speaker. They should be used as a complementary and not a primary speaker. Get something a little bigger if you're putting them in the doors of a pickup truck for example.

Sound Ordnance™ P-52

Anonymous from Cleveland,OH on 11/7/2013

These are really nice speakers. I ended up taking out the factory ones from my 96 sentra and they were crap. so paper thin and mostly made out of cardboard. I ended up replacing all four. With the tweeter in the speaker all the highs are very loud and you can hear them very well. They don't have very great bass, but it might just be because of the radio receiver i have, which is a Dual. I'll be changing that soon as well. The fronts were pretty simple all i had to do was put on the bracket and drill two new holes. The rears were a pain, the bracket provided did not fit. I ended up taking the old bracket from the old speakers, and it worked out great. Don't know why i didn't think of it earlier. Overall, these speakers don't even compare to the factory speakers that were in my car.

Pros: simple installation, very clear highs

Cons: not that great of a bass

A very well made, great sounding, value priced replacement for OEM speakers. I installed them in the front doors of a Hyundai Accent with no problems at all. Such a big difference over the 11 year old OEM's. Even the bass comes out reasonably well for a smaller speaker powered by a stock head unit. Will consider other SO speakers in the future. And of course, Crutchfield's shipping was fast and the install sheets were a big, big help.

Pros: Solid quality, real good value.

Cons: Wish they had a bit more low-end response, but much better compared to OEM.

Original set up in my 02 Grand Prix was a one way speaker in the door panel and a separate tweeter in the sail panel.Although the wiring harness exactly connected the factory wiring to the new speaker there was no way to jump off to the existing tweeter without additional splicing. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. These sound just as good if not better than my factory Harman kardon speakers in my Mini Cooper s, and are a fraction of the cost. The design of the speaker itself is amazing, unlike any other speaker out there for sure. They handle a large amount of volume without breaking up or distorting. The packaging is really cool as well, a fighter plane on the box and comes with a sound ordinance dog tag. Highly recommend ordering from Crutchfield because of the free installation instructions as well as the free mounting kit.

Pros: Great sound affordable

Cons: Have yet to find anything I dislike

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

some of the reviews here were accurate, as expected the mids are lacking. compared to factory speakers they are much clearer and the bass is also cleaner. if you're not an audiophile but just want to upgrade from your typical factory sound system with 4 to 6 speakers, you can't go wrong with these 2 way speakers and adding a separate sub. i still use the stock headunit and these 2 ways make a significant difference (as would probably any coaxials over the factory speakers) but still good for the price.

Pros: clearer highs and cleaner bass

Cons: not much change in the mids compared to stock. also the adapters that came with these are not a perfect fit as one might expect. they will work with some adjusting and cutting.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Must admit this didn't sound anything like my expectations. While replacing the front door speakers on a Mazda I compared left and right (factory original and the P-52). The original speaker still seemed to be in good condition. It had excellent bass response, a muddy and indistinct midrange, and poor highs. In comparison, the P-52 had no bass worth mentioning and very good performance from midrange on up, though maybe a bit piercing in the high end. The loss of the low end surprised me, but I gave it a fair audition and decided it was going to work out. Indeed, it has turned out beautifully. Using one of the EQ presets on my JVC radio, the 6x9 rear speakers take care of the bass, and the P-52s are pushed from very good into excellence. The difference between the stock front speakers and the P-52s is the difference between merely knowing that you're listening to an orchestra, and actually hearing all the instruments. What I thought would be piercing highs actually works to my advantage in compensating for the low position of the speakers on the car doors. The P-52s give vocals clarity at the front of the car and do wonders for voice recordings and podcasts. I've thrown at them 50 songs in various genres and been pleased with the results. In daily use, they still satisfy.

Pros: Big improvement over stock speakers at a good price

Cons: Lack of bass response; sounds like an even smaller speaker

CMS from MA on 7/19/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are ok for the size and price, but the tweeter is really harsh and overpowering. They cannot handle bass at normal driving volume, and even with the treble shut all the way off on my EQ it was still high for normal listening. The bass was less than stock speakers, but unlike stock these did not distort at all. The speakers are very clear-sounding, so I paired them up with a set of larger speakers to work like a sub and tweeter, and they work well with a crossover so my larger speaker handle low mids to bass, and these speakers handle the high mids and treble. These speakers have great response from high mids to treble, but low mids to bass are almost unnoticeable, even with -10db of cut on the high range, and there are other 5-1/2" speakers with better low-end response out there, so its not just the small size. If you need clarity and high range, these are good speakers but a little quiet, and will not even handle typical radio rock music without sounding harsh and tinny from the overly loud tweeter. I didn't even try listening to any bass-heavy music, these are clearly not meant for that.

Pros: Clarity, Crisp sound, High-mids to treble sounds great, little to no distortion. Good to pair with subs or with a crossover running the bass to different speakers. Look great!

Cons: Very minimal response in the lower half of the frequency range, Tweeter too loud, Quieter than 15 year old paper-cone stock speakers, sound tinny and harsh when used by themselves.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great! I am pleased with the construction, and they handle sound appropriately. You'll want to take time and tune your head unit to send these babies nothing under 120khz, that way they'll give their best sound without the low end mudding up the sound. If you're looking for a great replacement for that blown, rattling factory speaker, these do the job well!

Pros: Perfect fit in original speaker jamb, seamless crimpless replacement with Crutchfield's included supplies.

Cons: Was a bit of a pickle to get the speaker grills off without feeling like i was going to cut myself or break something, and the instructions didn't explain it well, but you have to just use a little force and pry the grill from the plastic bezel.

Sounds better than stock speakers.

I bought these speakers as a replacement for my stock speakers in my 2003 Dodge Dakota. The installation took about three hours, 2 hours for the first door and then an hour for the other three. Directions were good, I had to clip the tabs a bit to get them to fit the stock mounts, but I got them in the doors. As soon as all four were in I turned it up a bit and could really tell the difference. I'm happy with my purchase, Crutchfield had them delivered to Kauai in about 72 hours, that's really good considering shipping was free. I will definitely shop at Crutchfield again.

Pros: Clear sounds, the bass is good enough.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Great Sound at a great Price!!

Rockin RD76 from Apache Junction, AZ on 2/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these as a factory replacement for my wife's 2002 Buick Century. The old paper cone on the driver side was DOA and in chronic need of replacement. Since we were not going to hold onto this car much longer, I was looking for something merely acceptable to the task. I was VERY pleasantly surprised, as was my wife. The sound these put out was great - clear highs, accurate mids, but albeit poor bass. However, that's why we have 6x9's in the rear so I was not concerned too much. Overall, a great product at a great price. I'll post more on the pros & cons...

Pros: Good points: The Sound Ordinance 5.25's put out a superior sound as a replcement speaker. As previously listed, highs and mids are excellent - clear and uncolored.

Cons: Bad points: These speakers get the full sound from the deck (a Sony aftermarket) and cannot hold the bass due to their size. I would recommend a set of bass blockers at about 150 - 300hz to cut out the lows and allow them to focus on what they do best - mids and highs. Another con was that the tweeter protruded enough to cause difficulty dropping these in the factory door mounts. Crutchfield made no mention of this, but luckliy I was able to work them in without too much trouble.

Great Speaker for the Money

91Volvo240 from Broken Arrow on 2/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After much debate with the Crutchfield Reps as to whether these would fit...they were convinced that i needed 4" in the front doors instead of 5 1/4...i am glad i ordered. they have good bass for a speaker this size and the highs and mids are very clear as well. don't expect thumping bass, but they are much better than the factory originals. easy installation and everything you need to install, even the wired terminal connectors. i was able to install into the front doors of my 1991 Volvo 240 with no modifications using 2 screws instead of all 4. I was even able to use the original volvo grills keeping the originality of by brick. only reason i didn't rate 5 was because these are not high end top of the line speakers. they are a great budget minded alternative to the name brands

Pros: great value, good sound, great customer service and free shipping. shollow mounting depth

Cons: odd shaped tweeter looks a bit cheap, but other than that i'm very pleased

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound ordinance speakers sound excellent. They came with the right mounting brackets so the install was reasonably easy. Made some small adjustments for the screws and mounts just like the OEM. Supplied GM OEM wiring harness was GREAT made connects easy. The Polk audio tweeters fit well with a little adaptation to the OEM mounting plate and they bring out the brass, woodwinds and string instruments with great highs from my classical favorites. Instructions were very helpful and the price was more than reasonable for what I received and shipping was next day!!!! You can't get any better than this!

Pros: There is everything to like about the product, the people behind it and the little things that make it a super deal. The Crutchfield team goes the extra mile to make you a satisfied customer.

2004 Hyundai Accent
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 2 pairs of these speakers as my 2004 Hyundai Accent's stock housing would only accommodate this size. Ideally, I would have preferred larger rear speakers for more bass since I was only opting for something basic without a sub or an amp. They are paired with a Sony CDX-GT440U head unit. I'm only comparing this speaker to other 5-1/4" units and, for the size, they give off a really balanced sound, hitting especially well on the mids. The clarity is great for what the speakers are and Sound Ordinance packaged them with all the necessities. Everything is of quality materials and the military theme was a nice touch. My car actually has built-in tweeters that I did not remove, which, when paired with 2 pairs of these speakers, would gravitate toward highs so I would recommend adjusting the levels through your head unit if you have a similar setup.

the speakers sound good but have in mind that they are small, they have great clarity and mid, but the bass is not what i was looking fore. i stay with the speakers because am going to build a sound equipment and the great hi and mid's sound very clear and transparent, if u are looking for speakers for factory receivers that going to make the difference in your car with great hi, mid, and bass you should get the 6x8 or 6x9 to get that hard bass, but S/O is a great quality speaker for a low cost and sound awesome. I still have the factory receiver in my 04 mazda 3 but am going to build my sound equipment with the time, also the crutchfield tec. is there for u if u have any questions and on top of that they send you all the instructions if u want to do it yourself. i am a new costumer and am skeptic with buy on the internet but i give it a try with this guys and my experience was very good. looking forward to my next porches with crutchfielld.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Item 777P52 is a 4 Ohm speaker which will be an easier load for the OEM amplifier to power. The only drawback to going with such a speaker would be less volume over the OEM speakers. We don't really stock that many 2 Ohm speakers any longer. The customer's best resort would be either a 2 Ohm or 3 Ohm infinity speaker if they can get it to fit their vehicle. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Sep 02, 2015 ]  Staff
