Speaker installation

Anonymous from Charlottesville, VA on 9/9/2014

2011 Toyota Venza- Replaced the factory speakers with a set of the Sound Ordinance P65c (front) and P65 (rear). The speakers are clearer and sound better than I thought and will be even better once I decide on a head unit.

Pros: Installer was very knowledgeable about the size of the rear speakers (slightly different from what was stated online), very neat about his work, and saved me a lot of time (dealing with tight spaces, small tools, etc). The shop was clean and the installation could be monitored from the waiting room as well as the show room.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very impressed with the quality and performance of these speakers. Given the low price, one usually equates low price with low quality. Not in this case. Being Crutchfield's house brand I wouldn't expect the quality to be poor. It's clear these are made by a major, and well renowned speaker manufacturer. Just not sure which one.

Pros: Great quality and sound for an excellent price.

Cons: None so far.

2006 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace Honda factory rear speakers that came with the add- on Bass Kit and Amp Honda makes for the upgrading of the Civic factory system I purchased and installed in my 2006 LX. I figure the amp they sent with the kit probably delivers about 30 RMS. The factory speakers sounded good except when you turned up the volume. They would distort. These speakers (after struggling with the Scosche adapter ring mount Crutchfield sent) sound really nice. You will need to center the speakers in the ring and drill new holes. Not a big deal - but I kind of expected them to fit without drilling. Anyway- These speakers have great Bass, midrange and treble. The are very clear and defined. They outweigh the factory speakers by about 2 to one. They can handle more power than the stock Honda speakers. Solid value for the money.

Pros: Nice sound- good upgrade from stock Honda add -on Bass system

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have these speakers installed in the sound bar and in the dash from the recommendation of the crutchfield team. They sound awesome. They produce a nice clean sound. For the price you cannot go wrong. I have an Alpine CDA-105 head unit and was using the stock speakers and the difference in the weight alone was noticeable. For the price you will not find a better speaker.

Pros: Crisp, clean sound. Cost!

Cons: Has to be an easier way to install speakers. This is not a Sound Ordnance issue but a Jeep issue. The rear speakers needed a few little extra rounds with a drill to make the speakers fit correctly with the Crutchfield installation kit.

Sounds great but sucks to install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

speakers overall sound great. much better than my stock speakers! had trouble fitting the speakers onto the mounting bracket and the cinche screws were way to short to go all the way through the bracket and speaker. we had to use a saw to cut down the plastic enough to make the cinches go all the way through. even after doing that, the holes would not like up properly with the speaker holes so I couldn't even fit all the screw's in. wish Crutchfield would add a notice saying the bracket doesn't always fit properly.

Pros: sounds awesome looks nice

Cons: stupid hard install

2007 Audi A4
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the scratch and dents to save some cash. There may have been stuff missing, but Crutchfield was great and sent the adapter and everything necessary for the install. Unlucky for me, the adapter was too small for the actual speaker 6.5" on a 2007 audi a4 non bose stereo system. What I ended up doing was take the stock speaker, cut the cone out, and use the housing for the stock speaker and mounted the p65s right into it. Crutchfield was also awesome, helped along the way with a few quick questions. Their wiring diagram and install sheet was a little wrong, but I was able to figure it out anyway.

Pros: Not sure why people are saying lack of bass, maybe its your overall system? These replaced stock 3 way speakers with a separate tweeter and its easily double the bass I had before. Speakers sound really good

Cons: Not a direct fit, but Im sure that was more of a problem with my car then the speaker itself. Also did not fit into the adapter sent. Maybe a Crutchfield mistake? Biggest Issue I had was there was no option other than soldering the connections, the terminals were tiny and in a very compact place. I would have loved to have had the option for some quick connects, but whatever, soldering seems to usually be the best option anyway.

Good replacement for the factory speakers in 08 Silverado. Work well, and cost less than factory. Plus, adapters were included, saving even more...

Pros: good sound, better than factory, good price considering the adapters were included.

Cons: If you use an adapter, you will need different screws and nuts than provided. Check ahead of time..

Awesome!!! The best speakers I've bought, ever. Once they broke in they were even better. Way better than stock sound system. They blast on the high end while maintaining a hard hit on the low end. Got asked the other day at the car wash, while i was cleaning out my car, what size sub i was running and told him i was running two 6.5"s... Im definitely gonna get two more and replace my blown out rear speakers next. Definitely a good use of $50.

I usually buy Sony, or Pioneer speakers due to past experience but I took a shot with these because of the price and other reviews. I am very pleased with the sound to say the least. For the price I was quite surprised with it after I installed them. They don't take heavy base very well but the sound quality is far better than the factory speakers.

Pros: Price, sound, overall quality (so far)

Cons: poor bass

Sound good, need a bit more bass.

These speakers sound good in the mid and high but the bass is a little lacking, which is mostly expected. Can't really beat the low price. The mounting brackets will not line up with any of the holes. Just expect it and drill new ones.

Pros: As a speaker for mid and tweet, it excels.

Cons: Practically no bass.

Speakers in my 2001 VA Jetta were shot. Picked these up on sale and they are great. Outperforms my stock speakers. The only quarrel I have with them is that the spacers they shipped did not fit . the pattern was 1/4" off maybe for a 6 1/4" speaker instead of the 6 1/2" I ordered.

Pros: Free hardware. No splicing needed with the supplied connectors. Price was awesome.

Cons: Spacers didn't have the correct fitment, had to modify a bit. Even so install was less than 1 her for all 4.

Cons: A little difficult to install.

1995 Saturn SL2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to replace my 10 year old Rockford Fosgate speakers due to one having cracks in the surround. So I decided to save money and give these speakers a try. The sound quality of the speakers are not too bad, but not great. I wasn't expecting a whole lot from them, but they do fairly well. The sound seems a bit cluttered, some people may not notice it, but at higher volume it sounds fairly good for a value priced speaker. The quality of the speaker themselves is very good. They also tend to fit in tighter areas (I used the slim speaker baffles in my door and still had nearly 1/2" gap of space!). The two issues I have with them is that one of my boxes was missing the speaker wire leads and even the mounting screws. Luckily I had the harness Crutchfield gives to cut up and solder in (factory connectors are gone years ago). The other issue is the mounting holes didn't seem to line up with anything! I decided to just make new holes in the adapter bracket. If you are simply looking for better sound at a value price, these do just fine. If you want amazing sound quality, spend some cash and look at JBL or mid to high end Infinity.

Pros: Speaker quality, slim fit (for not being a slim fit specific speaker), actual tweeter, mid-high volume sound quality, short speaker wire leads (for those that like to cut factory plugs off and solder new)---personal preference instead of feet of useless wire.

Cons: Slightly cluttered sound at low and high volume, missing hardware (in one box), mounting holes don't match very well.

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price these speakers sound very nice. I bought them to replace the stock speakers in a 1999 Tahoe. They are not a $200 pair of component speakers so dont expect them to sound that way. But for the price I was impressed, much better than something you would find at a local audio store for a similar price. I gave a 4 star rating because I am very picky regarding audio equipment and they would have to be amazing for me to give 5 stars.

Pros: Ease of installation with the included speaker wire connectors as well as the speaker adapters.

Cons: nothing so far, have been in for about 2 weeks.

Good speakers! HUGE improvement over stock 2003 Lancer OZ speakers. Good clarity and more bass than i was expecting! should sound even better when I amp them!.. some people on here come and rip good speakers on the reviews becuase they say they dont have the best sound but that would be because they are simpley being under powered running of 10-15 RMS total when they need 50RMS EACH! these things want 200x4 RMS into them! excited to amp them!! sound great now!! should sound better later!

Pros: easy to wire! no splicing or anything required if you get the speaker wire harnesses.. great sound for the price!

Cons: Took awhile to mount and was a bit tricky... they didnt fit the brackets that Crutchfield gave me with them but 9 out of 10 times you have to blast holes into the brackets and where and another few where your mounting the bracket and speaker unless it fits your car perfectly this was Mainly due to my Lancer.

I knew going in that these were budget speakers so didn't expect much. Im on a serious budget but wanted something better than the stock speakers in my 2012 Honda Civic. I needed them to be able to handle a 50 watt per channel amp that I have and these work quite well. If you want GREAT sound, spend more money and select on of the prime brands like Alpine and Rockford if you want the best, but I needed something in between and these were spot on. Price was great and they produce decent bass without much distortion.

Pros: Inexpensive, decent sound, better than stock speakers

Cons: Only a notch above stock speakers, Careful with the terminals, almost broke putting speaker terminals on.

Great speakers and even better for the value. There are very few pre-drilled holes on the units to match with the mounting bracket so the installation can be a little difficult, but that is a minuscule problem. Theses speakers are a must buy for anyone looking to replace factory or OEM speakers.

Pros: Great sound and simple to install and wire with factory car wiring.

1991 Ford F Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While I know that when someone says "value," people have a tendency to automatically think "cheap," that should not be the thought with these. They are constructed very well and of quality materials. I've been deep into the audio world for quite some time, and have experienced a lot of speakers at both ends of the cost spectrum. For these being toward the lower end, they have excellent sound. The biggest mistake would to hook them up to your OEM head unit or a cheap 20 watt deck and claim that the speakers only sound somewhat better than the originals. Use a good head unit or a simple amp. These sound quite a lot better with a full, clean 50 - 60 watts behind them. You'll be surprised.

Pros: Great clarity and output volume, sleek but simple looks, very well designed and constructed, excellent price for the quality!

Good Value Depending on Expectations

Anonymous from Texas on 6/25/2013

2000 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently replaced my rear speakers with the P-69s. Although these were better than the previous speakers, the sound created by the old (fronts) and new speakers (rears) was very harsh. In order to make them play nicely together, I would need a separate equalizer for the old and new speakers. Instead of spending tons of money on relatively inexpensive speakers, I replaced the front speakers with the P-65s. As other reviewers have mentioned, the base is substantially less than the original factory speakers. You may think by turning up the base you can overcome this issue; however, I would highly advise against this as the sound quality goes downhill fast if you send these speakers a lot of base. Since my car has 6x9's in the back, this isn't a big deal for me. However, if these were the largest speakers in my car, I would strongly consider returning them. The other issue I had with these speakers is the mounting hole locations. The mounting holes were placed using a larger radius than the factory mounting locations. Since the car had little plastic in the speaker compartment, it was a bit of a challenge to mount the speaker well. Besides the base and mounting issues, these speakers have been great for the price. I have enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music and overall am happy with my purchase.

Pros: Price, Sound quality (with little base)

Cons: Lack of base, Mounting hole locations

Good Value, mixed first experience with Crutchfield

stock audio from in my car on 6/16/2013

First off, let me say that I think these are a great value and my overall experience with Crutchfield was positive. I am a very no frills car audio person. My only other experience was replacing a radio head that was stolen out of my car years ago. I blew a front speaker, and I needed a replacement. I talked to an online advisor, explained that I wanted a no frills, easy, affordable replacement option. She recommended these speakers, and they turned out to be very nice sounding, crisp, clear, and louder than the originals. They might sound like trash to an audiophile, but to this layperson's ear it is like being at the concert. My experience with Crutchfield was very good and I think that the items I received-speakers, wiring, and spacer brackets- represent an excellent value. But, I have to say two things were a little frustrating. First, I was under the impression that your order comes with all the directions for the install. They don't. You need to research how to remove your door panels yourself. The instructions only tell you the wiring. Second, I thought the spacers were plug and play parts. They aren't. I had to do some modifications to the spacer to make them work. I had to trim the spacer to make it sit flat in the door, I had to drill new holes into the door, and I needed to drill new screw holes to mount the speaker. Not the end of the world, and I still got the job done cleanly. But, it ended up being a bit more involved than expected

Pros: great value

Cons: spacer brackets required modification.

I really like these speakers... I first purchased the Kenwoods and they seemed flat to me... I know you are not going get a lot of bass out of small speakers, but these SO are awesome with great sound & more bass than I expected out of them.. As always, crutchfield is awesome with always making your installation easy with all the necessary parts, installation Manuals, etc. Was looking for a simple replacement for my 2010 jeep cherokee. If you are looking for just treble/highs/vocals, these are your speakers. They have some bass but they can easily get very distorted and it's a pain having to switch my bass down to -9 or -2 depending on the song. Overall good for the price but only for vocals.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When looking for a speaker upgrade I was a little skeptical of these speakers being that they are so cheap, but I decided to go with them because you just can't find silk dome tweeters for this price anywhere else. I only have them running off the HU in the rear of my 07 Civic coupe and they sound AMAZING. The sound is incredibly smooth and they have such clarity, even my girlfriend, who could care less about this stuff, noticed the huge improvement over stock. But it's not just a stock replacement. I kid you not when I say these sound just as good and probably have more clarity than my polk db651's (which are amped at 75w rms) in the front. I may have a found a new go-to brand in Sound Ordnance.

Pros: Clarity, smoothness, and VALUE

Cons: I guess I should mention they don't have a huge amount of bass by themselves, but what can you expect from a 6.5 coax? That's what a sub is for

Man, these speakers hit way above their weight! The sound quality for the price here is phenomenal. They have above average highs and really decent mids while being driven by a 50W per channel Pioneer head unit. The lows can get a bit muddled but I that's not what a 6.5" is for anyway so that's fine. Even my wife, who could not normally care less about speakers and sound quality gave me a high-five after hearing these speakers for the first time. I took a chance based on the other user reviews and I am more than pleased that I did. Don't these speakers today!

Pros: Fantastic Value Audio Quality: Highs and Mids

Cons: Not a ton of 'punch'

Fine speakers, but They are NOT 6 1/2 speakers, they are slightly smaller which is why so many people say they don't fit. Total Speaker diameter is 6" Screw hole to screw hole diameter is 5 3/4." Too bad crutchfield doesn't list dimensions instead of saying "yes they fit" Could've saved me a month of their return process. And panels dangling in my back seat!

Cons: Crutchfield lists them wrong. These are 6" speakers and do not fit the Crutchfield adapter or a 6 1/2" cutout.

I wanted to replace my 20 year old door speakers in my 93 Mustang coupe and I decided on these because they were not expensive and the reviews were all pretty good. I've never used Sound Ordnance until this build and I'm very impressed. I am powering these with the factory amp and they sound great. Nice and clear sound. They could actually use more power I think. These are not made for bass. Buy a sub for that

Replaced factory in '02 lincoln, basically a winter car, can handle all the power from factory premium alpine system, easy install, all 4 in an hour, it's the little things like the detailed instructions and wiring adapters that really sets crutchfield apart, been a customer since the mid eighties for a reason. At this price point a great speaker, buy it!

Pros: Master sheet instructions and wiring harness

Cons: Had to do very minor modifying to factory bracket on fronts, rears perfect fit

Inexpensive replacement speaker for 2000 Forester. Easy installation once I decided to snip off two of the three guides on Subaru's flange rather than drill new holes. Only one hole matched the 3 threaded inserts on the flange. Rather than single 1/16" holes, the manufacturer(s) should provide channels of openings. Maybe one day I'll remove the speaker and drill the two new holes necessary to properly mount it. Maybe. Some other time. The sound is more crisp than the stock speakers. For the price, this speaker is sufficient.

Put these in the rear position to replace blown OEM speakers. The front speakers were previously replaced with rockford roseate prime 65s, so I had something to compare to. If you want high end high end speakers. These are not them. But if you want an inexpensive upgrade to stock speakers, give these a go.

The speakers are well made and sound much better than the stock speakers, but are very bright and the bass is weak without boosting the control up to +7. The directions for the speakers are sparse in info and don't explain what the +/-3 switch does. The included adapters for the speakers do not sufficiently cover the opening in the door. They also do not sufficiently mate with the speakers. Without the proper fit, the screw clips cannot be used as expected. I wound up using sheet metal screws. The pigtail wire kit was helpful. A big plus was the inclusion of photos and directions for removing the actual door liner and speakers of my car. Easy. I would like to attenuate the tweeters at least 6 db.

Pros: Well built speakers. Tonal balance is better than the component version.

Cons: Installation was tuff with the included adapter.

My stock paper speakers can out perform these it seems

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers did not fit the adapter that was given to me by crutchfield which made the installation very painful. I had to end up using ty wraps because I would have to drill new holes otherwise. Unfortunately, as tight as they are, you can still only get quality so good since they are plastic and ever-so-slightly elastic. This leads me into my post-installation complaint: The speakers can't go past 75% volume without a loud scratching noise and I have the very basic stock sound set-up in my car; My paper speakers can easily hit full volume and play without a problem, but as these reach volume 30 (out of 40), the mids and highs begin to scratch and it sounds like the cones cannot handle it almost. I bought these to supplement my b-12 250W sub powered by the M2100 which is putting out about 200W to the sub. These speakers do not compliment the sub at all, unless you prefer to listen to music that begins to blend in with the sound of nails on a chalk board. I'm still in shock that my paper speakers can out perform these...? Truly upset by sound ordnance with these speakers. It could be partially in part of the adapter to my car, but in reality that can only hinder the quality so much.

Pros: 60 days to return starting from purchase date

Cons: Quality of the sound seems bad, but thats what I get for the price, stock seems better. Even after "break-in" they still seem quiet and can't reach the same volume my stockpaper speakers did without being muffled and sounding terrible.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers for the money! I'm using these in the rear panels of my 2003 Honda civic Si hatchback to replace the stock speakers so it's more for rear fill and the occasional passenger than for my ears, but they definitely are more clear and add more detailed high end then the stock speakers. It sounds like they have decent bass response when I tested them with my subwoofer off, but i use a 12" sub and a High Pass Filter around 80hz for these and my front speakers, so I was mainly checking for rattling than bass response. I purchased these over other brands based on the fact that these were the only speakers in a budget price that had silk dome tweeters. I think the next closest pair was over $100, and I'm not spending that kind of coin on rear fills. I think they sound somewhat similar to the Infinity reference line for much less money. I think Crutchfield is smart for offering a great house brand that provides a solid product at a price point no one else can touch. Any other coaxial in this price range has metal/ aluminum tweeters that sound very harsh and unrealistic. Silk dome is the way to go if you like sweet sounding highs, especially those that listen to a lot of music with horns. Love the fact that Crutchfield includes all the necessary adapters and manuals to make for an easy install. Solid speakers with good high end!

Pros: very inexpensive, silk dome tweeter

Cons: foam surround, not rubber, but not a big deal considering no speaker has a rubber surround in a budget line

Pretty good speakers. They look great, but in my install looks wasn't an issue. Cost was good and sound quality is decent. Hence both my front speakers were blown so a singing hamster would have done the trick as well.

Pros: Nice little upgrade for my front factory speakers. And didn't break my budget

Cons: Would have been ok for just the front of the car. But I went ahead and took the salesperson advise and purchased a pair for the rear. BIG MISTAKE !! No Bass whatsoever. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced all 4 OEM speakers with the 6.5" P-65s. The install was pretty straight forward using the adapter plates. The good news is no cutting or bending of the door sheet metal required. Because of a complication, I was only able to install the rear set of speakers initially. They sounded better than the OEMs, but then the OEMs were shot, so anything was better. When I got around to installing the 2nd pair (about 2 weeks later) I realized how much the sound quality had improved from the P-65s in the rear doors. The break-in period did wonders for the sound quality. I now hear much more definition in the sound and have even discovered new sounds in songs I've heard hundreds of times. The bass is ample for my taste, not window rattling but good all around bass. I would purchase these again and would recommend them to anyone looking to replace their tired OEM speakers with an outstanding value.

I didn't want to pay $90 each for new factory paper speakers that would likely go out again so I replaced them with these. They are only plugged into the factory radio head and not using an external amplifer so they probably would do better with an amp. The bass isnt going to blow you away but this may change with an upgraded radio unit. At $40 a pair and free shipping you cant beat this deal. Overall, I'd probably purchase the speakers again. There is no midrange, just forget it. The highs are either non-existant or incredibly tinny. Your choice. I wound up returning these speakers. Thanks to crutchfield for providing great service. I found an old pair of Boston Acoustic's in the garage, and put those in. Not quite as much bass, but I have mids and highs again, and clear vocals. A huge improvement with the Boston's installed... So I figured it was time to get new ones but wasn't looking to spend a lot since i don't need the whole world to hear my music just me. I was pretty amazed at how much better the car sounded with just the speakers. The car actually had bass something it never really had before. The music sounds really good now.

I was hesitant to buy an unknown brand but bought them on the strength of Crutchfield's reputation. These 6.5s were installed in the front door panel and 6x9s in the rear deck. These went in first and thought I would return them when I tested them. They were almost identical in sound quality to the 10 year-old factory paper cones they replaced. They had no depth whatsoever in the mid-range nor the base. However, since I had already dissassembled the rear deck for the 6x9s, i decided to complete the installation. The 6x9s turned out to be much, much better. They have much greater range and plenty of base. As a set, the 6x9s saved the 6.5s. In fact, in the last couple of weeks, the 6.5s have gotten better and, coupled with the 6x9s, they are satisfactory. But, just barely. I cannot recommend them by themselves.

Very Good

Fliptechmed from Puerto Rico on 3/16/2010

Previously I purchased two sets of Polk Audio speakers for my Del Sol and I loved the quality. I am a Polk Audio fan and I noticed these Sound Ordnance speakers had a 1" silk dome tweeter which is very similar to that of Polk. So I bought these paired with the 6x9 for my 06 ACCORD and wow they come very close to the Polk's. Very impressed for the price you cannot go wrong. Let's see how good they break in.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just had these speakers installed today and they sound awesome. The highs are crystal clear even at low volumes. I also installed a set of the 6 x 9's by sound ordanance these speakers have great base. These are great performing speakers and the price is not bad either. Thanks crutchfield.
