Our take on the Cambridge Audio iD50

Cambridge Audio uses "quasi-differential noise canceling" to achieve superior sound from your docked player. What does that mean? The circuitry generates a noise-canceling signal that's 180° out of phase with electronic noise. When added to the incoming audio signal, the in-phase noise and out-of-phase noise cancel each other out, leaving only the pure music for you to enjoy. You can even disable the iPod charging feature from the included remote, to make sure it won't interfere with audio playback in any way.

High-performance sound from your iPod

Cambridge Audio understands sound. That's why their iD50 premium docking station is more than just an ordinary iPod dock. Sophisticated circuitry inside the iD50 ensures that clean, clear audio and video signals are delivered to your receiver and TV monitor.

This unit was intalled by profesionals as part of a systems update. The remote only functions occasionally. Very slow to respond. The only relaiable way to play music on a new ipod is by using the ipod screen.

Replacement for my (now defunct) Windows XP computer that crashed and burned after many faithful years of service as a music server for my home theater system. Does all that it promises to do.

Pros: Good sound, remote control convenience, and priced right.

Cons: Disappointed that the display is a rather mundane black and white menu on the screen of my 50-inch HDTV - would've rated it a five-star had it managed to display the ITunes menu(s) in color along with the album art.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works very well, great sound, at times the iTouch does not recognize it as a viable charging source and needs to be undocked and re-inserted

Pros: Great sound, fits in with rest of the stereo equipment,

Cons: charging at times suddenly stops as iTouch does not recognize the device - strange!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first one I received did not work at all. Probably a bad power source since the LED in teh device never lit up. The Crutchfield advisors were very helpful however and shipped out a new unit before I even returned the defective unit. 2nd unit worked fine and sounds great.

Pros: Very easy to use and good sound.

Cons: QC issue, first unit I got was defective.

iD50, Vehicle For Great Sound

LarryB from Nashville, TN on 1/28/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When my CD player died, I looked for a way to incorporate my iPod with my older but of good quality, receiver and speakers. The iD50 does its part to give my system a great, rich sound; full but restrained and detail I'd not heard before.

Pros: Does its part to deliver high quality sound.

Cons: The print on the owners manual could be larger
