Crutchfield: Cambridge Audio Minx Min Satellite Speakers
We're big fans of Cambridge Audio here at Crutchfield, so when they dropped by recently to demonstrate their newest gear, our training room was packed. Among the impressive demos we enjoyed was their Minx Min 22, an ultra-compact bookshelf speaker. Hooked to a Cambridge Audio integrated amp and paired with a Minx X301 powered sub, a pair of these little gems knocked us out with a wide, deep, and detailed sound that totally filled the room. Cambridge explained that one of the secrets to the Min 22's amazing sound was the latest evolution to their renowned flat-piston driver, the BMR, or Balanced Mode Radiator.
Note: We highly recommend using these satellites with a powered subwoofer for full-range sound.
What's this driver's secret, a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. That's what allows the Min 22 to cover a much wider frequency range than other comparably sized speakers. You'll also experience much broader sound dispersion across your entire room. Plus, the compact, acoustically damped cabinet offers extreme rigidity for pure, clean sound no matter how intense your music or movies get.
The Minx Min 22's latest 4th generation BMR driver features more rigid construction than previous designs for even better dispersion. That extra-wide dispersion means you can put your speakers where you want and still enjoy deep, spacious stereo or surround sound throughout your entire room. This makes Minx Min speakers ideal for room layouts where your speaker placement options are less than optimal. The new BMR driver also features a larger magnet structure for greater efficiency, and increased driver excursion for better integration with a subwoofer, and richer sound. Along with the new BMR, the Min 22 incorporates a custom, dedicated woofer for further improvement to the bass handling.
Naturally, you want your speakers to fit into your home, rather than having to design your living space around your system. That's why the compact Minx Min 22 satellites include a keyhole slot wall mounting bracket. They can also be swivel-mounted to your wall, placed on stands, or positioned on a tabletop using optional hardware. You can mix and match between colors. Use the larger Minx Min 22 models in the front of your room with the even smaller Minx Min 12s in the back.

Purchased these as I was downsizing to a condo and the living area is about a 19'x13' room. Bought 5, plus the Minx X201 subwoofer, and have been blown away at the quality and clarity of sound. Netflix streaming sounds great and music is also superb - excels at the high-end, but there is a full rich sound with the right amount of bass from the X201. Sound fills the whole room with plenty of output to spare. Other reviewers suggested a break-in period and I noticed it too - sound did improve after a few hours of use. Speakers fit nicely in an AV cabinet, and the mounting brackets that I purchased separately were great allowing me to adjust the satellites. I was skeptical that you could get such rich sound from small speakers like this, but now am just amazed and enjoying my purchase.
Pros: Great sound, fits in an AV cabinet, perfect for music + movies + streaming.
Cons: Minor break-in period, but worth the wait.
Great sound met my need for small surround speakers
Pros: Small size big sound
Great sounding speakers! These are the speakers for you if you don't have the space or just want a low profile look. I use these for right, left, and center channel and it sounds awesome! Make sure you match these with a good sub that matches the size of your room because there is some low end but not much. With a good sub it doesn't matter if these have a low end because the kids and Higgs are great. I'm using for home theater more than music.
Pros: Incredible sound for such small speakers! Footprint is very small! Very clear sound
Cons: Could use more low end - but with a sub it doesn't matter
Great speakers. Using them as my front Dolby speakers.
these speakers SOUND gorgeous & LOOK gorgeous! replacing 45 yr old speakers in a kitchen remodel, wanted tiny & we aren't set up for wireless.Still cannot believe i found EXACTLY what I wanted. Love them. will try to remember to send a pic when room is all done.
Speaker design, construction, and sound are outstanding!!!
these replaced some well-worn, 20+ year-old Cambridge speakers that were a bit larger. The Minx Min 22 sound is amazingly good, particularly for such small speakers, and I wouldn't want anything larger for my living room. they are clear and carry the high and mid-ranges beautifully
I know have 5.1 system all Minx 22 speakers and a Minx 201 Sub woofer My TV room is 12 X 15 and these small speakers really fill the room with great sound. I have a Yamaha RXV 681 receiver and it can really put out some good volume and these speaker can easily handle the volume. In Closing, I like to say anyone looking for some great small speakers, these are the ones. also the gloss black is really sharp looking Cructhfield has been great to deal with Great service A1 Thanks
I replaced my Klipsch floor tower speakers with these minis to free up more space in my family room. The minis are paired with an old Yamaha subwoofer. The result -more space and a huge improvement in clarity and sound quality. My family room is approximately 20X14-these speakers do the job. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend these speakers for anyone with space constraints.
Pros: High quality at a very reasonable price Clear high full sound
Spectacular sound given the small size. I'm completely pleased. These are the B speakers for a stereo arrangement where the A speakers in a different room are high-end B&Ws. The Minx aren't quite in the same class, but they're a fraction of the price, and they're pretty close in their sound quality. Amazing performance for a box this tiny. They're a little more costly than some other small bookshelf speakers, but worth it in my view.
They sound great. Have them as front and rear speakers in a 5.1 setup. Good mid bass and wonderful smooth highs. Little $$, so 4 stars.
Pros: good mid bass smooth highs
I have these small speakers sitting on top of my refrigerator. That's certainly not the ideal location, but in spite of that limitation they sound pretty good. They have a clear, full, sound in a small package. I would recommend them.
Pros: Small size, clear sound,
Cons: Bass response is limited
Excellent speakers. I use minx22 in 2 channels with minx301 and liked the sound quality. For those who are planning to buy Bose, I would suggest comparing it with Cambridge minx systems and you might choose this. I use it more for music than for movies.
Very smooth sounding satellite speakers. Not bright at all and the vocals sounds very warm.
Downsizing my speaker size but not sound
Pros: Small, well built , stylish & clear sound
I am exceedingly pleased with the quality of sound produced by the Minx Min 22 Speaker. The speakers are small and almost invisible and yet the sound is wonderful.
Pros: Small with great sound
Picked up 3 of these to be used as my L/C/R speakers. When paired with my Marantz 1607 they sounded great - much better than my older Lifestyle 28 system.
Pros: Great size, Nice design and Not power hungry.
Cons: Speaker terminals aren't the highest quality.
Great sound for the size
While we have a great home theater in our basement, the family room had been suffering with the television's built in speakers. In a word, they were awful. For the family room we wanted speakers that wouldn't physically dominate the room and these little cubes fit the job. We're using them for front and center speakers and will be adding two more for the surrounds shortly. They obviously don't go deep and in general, even when using small speakers I'd like them to go a bit deeper than these but the tradeoff for small size was worth it for us. The only downside is that they don't take regular banana plugs. I had to do some surgery on my speaker cables to hook them up.
Pros: - small size - sound great for their size
Cons: - can't use banana plugs
I was looking for the best small, wall-mounted speaker I can find and settled on these Minx Min 22's. I've certainly had better speakers but for the size they perform pretty well.
Pros: Small size, clear sound.
Cons: Not a lot of power.
I was looking for small speakers that would blend into their surroundings. These are exactly what I was looking for. They are tiny yet still have big sound (huge sound for their size).
Pros: Small small small
Cons: Not huge bass, but that has to be expected.

BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) Technology: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN22 satellite speaker features two 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) drivers. The Cambridge Audio BMR driver utilizes patented 'bending wave' principles normally seen in advanced flat-panel speakers, combined with piston-movement (backwards and forwards) like in a traditional speaker design. This type of design provides the Minx satellite speaker with a much wider frequency response and deeper and more powerful bass frequencies, plus incredibly spacious sound. The BMR driver design also adds value by delivering a much broader sound dispersion across the entire room, avoiding the typical "sweet spot" pitfall, for a more enveloping sound.
Acoustically Damped Cabinet: The MIN22 satellite speaker employs an acoustically damped thermo-polymer cabinet to prevent distortion caused by resonance and vibration. Its acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure delivers greater detail and accuracy.
Binding Posts: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN22 satellite speaker is equipped with a pair of binding post terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and spade-connectors. The satellite speaker's binding post terminals can be removed to allow use of banana plugs (single only). The binding post terminals simply pull out of the back of the speaker, which allows access to banana connector inputs.
Mounting Options: The Cambridge Audio Minx MIN22 satellite speaker can be table-top mounted, wall mounted, or placed on a floor-standing speaker stand.

Awesome sound quality! [ Eric Nov 11, 2017 ]
Amazing sound for such a small form factor. I have used a pair of minx 22 for my surround speakers and have been extremely impressed. I'm purchasing a 2nd pair to add as height speakers. [ Nissim Nov 06, 2017 ]
The unique driver design and small size; perfect as a system monitor. [ M Apr 26, 2017 ]

I reconfigured my home theater system to use front height speakers and initially used some old small speakers for the height channels. I am now replacing those with the Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22. Size and color are important considerations and of course I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised by an improvement in sound as well. [ Robert Dec 04, 2017 ]
Combination of several factors: (a) good size for the intended space, (b) seemed to have more complete capabilities than Cambridge Min 11, and (c) reasonable price. Also considered Polk product. [ William May 22, 2017 ]

To add a 6 .2 system [ Brian Jul 24, 2016 ]
I have 6 currently hooked up to my yamaha receiver. 3 front 3 back. 5 would be just fine to use also. Sound really good and exceptionally clear. [ Brian Mar 15, 2018 ]
I'm really not to sure. I'm using them as atoms speakers.I wish I could be more helpful. [ JOSEPH D Feb 17, 2018 ]

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Krissy Jun 17, 2015 ] Staff
They come with a small stick on mount that you can use. But if you want a more substantial wall or selling mount you must purchase them separately. Crutchfield has them, however, the series of screws in the package does not fit the speaker. I had to go to Lowes and purchase a longer screw than included in the package. [ Douglas Oct 27, 2016 ]
The speakers did not come with the mount so I purchased the following. This mount worked well with aiming and was far enough from the ceiling to install the speakers vertical or horizontally. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_121AM25W/Pinpoint-AM25-White.html?tp=586 [ Ernest Oct 26, 2016 ]
I use them as my front speakers for my Bose surround system and thus have them on pedestal stands. Sorry, I don't remember if they come with wall mounts but I think they do. [ JEFFREY Oct 26, 2016 ]
NO [ Brian Oct 25, 2016 ]
Nope - you need to buy them. The speakers are great tho - look terrific, small, great sound! [ Farmer Andy Oct 25, 2016 ]
No, but they are very easy to wall mount and are light enough that a very inexpensive 7.5 lb capacity wall mount kit will do it no problem. [ Eric Oct 25, 2016 ]
i do not know [ DENNIS Apr 28, 2016 ]
You can certainly use these speakers without an external subwoofer but you will not have some of the deepest frequencies without the sub. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5 [ Ryan Jan 27, 2016 ] Staff
The Minx 22 offers more robust performance with a dedicated driver just for the bass frequencies. It has wider frequency response and great efficiency so, yes, you will notice an improvement when you upgrade. I hope that helps!
