Our take on the Cambridge Audio S90

Complete your system with deep bass

The S90 may be compact, but it can certainly pack a punch when needed — all the way down to 35Hz. A built-in 70-watt amplifier helps it deliver some serious low bass performance. It's a perfect match for Cambridge's S-series speaker line, and works best when used in a stereo music or home theater system along with the S70 floor-standing speakers, S30 bookshelf speakers, or S20 bookshelf speakers.

Designed and engineered with passion

All of Cambridge Audio's S-series speakers are carefully designed and tested at their London facility by a team of engineers fueled by their passion for incredible sound. The S90 uses an 8" forward-firing woofer and dual rear ports to create full-bodied, dynamic bass for all your favorite music, movies, and video games. The rigid cabinet comes with spiked feet to help keep the bass tight and well-controlled. It means you'll hear clean, detailed lows, even when you crank up the volume.

A Big 8 inch

PhilWD from Easton,MD on 1/30/2012

For an 8" driver, this unit works better (deeper bass) than I expected. 70 watts does not seem like much power, but I am using two and it is enough SPL to get me thrown out of the house before I run out of power. This was my first experience with sub woofers and I am not sure I'll ever NOT have one again. I also later purchased an Infinity PS38. Noticiably larger, but has a deeper less boomy sound. I think the S90 integrates better with small speakers (6" or less). People with big budgets and a lot of room should look elsewhere.

Pros: Great bass for the size and actually the price. Has all the minimal controls.

Cons: Not gobs of power, but enough for me. Not a low low crossovers frequency (35HZ).

Small box, big bass

Phil D from Easton MD on 12/8/2011

Good, deep bass for the price and size. Not enough power to knock down walls but will shake your chair. Variable crossover characteristics pla/yblend well with other speakers. Satisfied with purchase.

Pros: Deeper bass than I expected from an 8" speaker in such a compact enclosure. Blends well with my other speakers. Pleasent surprise once set up. Great for music. May not be enough power for big bass movies played at hi volume although pretty convincing at lower levels. I like the sound. Enough power to feel the bass.

Cons: Price seems high for 70 wattfs. May need more gain for high efficiency speakers like Klipsch.
