USB powered — straight from your computer
Who needs another power cable snaking down behind his or her desk? The UCubes are powered through a USB cable going into your computer. A high-quality audio cable connects the speakers. These two cables make the entire setup. Imagine opening up your laptop in a hotel room and connecting the UCubes in a matter of seconds. Instant sound system!

Small speakers, big sound
Each UCube speaker is a compact 3-1/4" cube. But you'd never know it from the sound. The system receives a direct digital signal from your computer that it processes with its own ultra-efficient processor. This provides more detail in your music than most PCs can deliver with their built-in speakers.

The UCube speakers deliver an amazing near-field listening experience. They encompass your work area in a spacious 170° soundfield. And with 30 watts of total system power, you can be sure your music will have plenty of impact at higher volume levels. The high-quality drivers reproduce the full range of your music with clarity.

Placement options
Pads on the bottom of the UCubes ensure they won't slide around on your desk (or scratch it either). Attachable brushed aluminum stands hold the speakers at an optimal angle for desktop listening. These stands also have protective furniture pads.

From the review The Ultralink UCube Portable Speakers: USB Stylin'

"I liked the Ultralink UCube speakers very much. Their thoughtful design made them an appealing travel companion. And they also worked great in my home office. If you're used to listening to your music through your computer's built-in speakers or — worse yet — some cheap unpowered speakers, do yourself a favor and invest in the UCubes. "

Amazing sound from such small speakers. I have them on my desk and they are so clear. No overwhelming woofer sound when listening to talk radio. Highly recommend..

Pros: Small...Clear Sound...Perfect for desk in office

Cons: Wish there was a jack plug in for playing other devices through them

Excellent Speakers

These are not cheesy or thin sounding speakers - very smooth and balanced. No, they are not party speakers for your house, they are for near field listening at a computer, but the sound is quality. They do get loud enough for reasonable listening in a small office even away from the desk. I am very happy with them - for the size and simplicity, they are perfect and are beautifully finished.

Pros: - they look great - compact - sound great - plug them in and they work - nothing to install or setup

Really good, little speakers

Astonishingly good sound for relatively small speakers. I listen to classical music and opera. Easy to set up. Look good. They don't travel with me, but sit pleasingly on my desk.

Pros: Small. Easy to set up. Great sound.

Cons: Another USB port used.

Best portable laptop speakers

These ultralink uCube speakers are powered by a USB which means no need for a power brick and connection when you are on the road with your laptop. They are small, lightweight and provide exceptional near-by sound when positioned at the sides of a laptop. USB is also used for the sound signal, so the signal goes direct to the speakers which have their own digital processor. This effectively bypasses the (usually inferior) laptop sound card and speakers. Setup in a couple of minutes, and better sound than a lot of brick powered portable speakers that I have tried. Best portable USB digital laptop speakers yet.

Ultralink UCube: good, but lacking power.

I'm not a stereo expert so take this review for what it's worth. Normally I don't like to listen to music too loud. I purchased these speakers for a small room, about 8 X 8. To my surprise I had to turn the volume all the way up to get some decent sound for Classical and Jazz pieces when I wanted it to be a little louder . That said the separation was good and the sound was clear.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife ordered U-Cube speakers for me in silver as a surprise gift. I liked their appearance, very modern and sleek, not cheap looking at all. Installation was simple and I hardly needed the instructions, a real bonus. I was listening to the speakers literally two minutes after opening the box. And I don't have that clutter of cords I needed for my "powered" speakers. I played our new album for the guys in my band on the UCubes and we were all blown away. The volume for such a compact system was really impressive for their size... no way could we have a normal conversation without turning them down. They have a nicely balanced sound -- the highs are good, surprising really, the mids were rich and attractive, and the bass good for their size. They aren't trying to do more than they can do well. Instruments were all well articulated and the UCubes set up a really wide sound field. When I switched to one of my daughter's metal bands, Avenged Sevenfold, the speakers didn't flinch. All-in-all I think the UCubes are a bargain at the price. Fast delivery from Crutchfield too. Thank you dear! You know me so well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was debating between the UCube and the Bose Companion 2 speakers for awhile. I had the opportunity to hear what the Bose sound like at a local store. I only read what others wrote about the UCubes being better than the Bose. They said things like the Bose are trash and to not waste your money on them. I'm more disappointed in myself in believing what other's say instead of relying on my own ability to judge the quality of something I'll be buying for myself. I will say this about the UCubes: aesthetically, they are beautiful! They just have the "Mac look" Sound wise, though, I'd go with the Bose. Also, the UCubes use only a USB connection which I appreciate about them. Bose have those big plugs that look crummy and and more cable mess. So, for that (aesthetically beautiful and USB connection only) I rated the UCubes with 2 stars. A low score because I bought the speakers for sound quality 1st and aesthetics as just an added bonus but they don't deliver in the sound department.

DSP: Although a computer's USB port is limited to 5 volts output, the power supply is DSP controlled and the class-D amplifier can store energy during quiet passages, allowing it to reach 15 watts RMS equivalent power output for clean, dynamic sound. The audio signal is also equalized using the DSP to match the UCube's special BMR driver and enclosure.

BMR Drivers: Designed to envelope you in sound, the BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) is a full-range, flat-diaphragm driver that delivers off-axis response of up to 170 degrees.

Computer Requirements: UCube speakers require 500mA minimum from the USB port, making them compatible with any computer's primary USB port(s). The built-in soundcard is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OSX. If connected using a USB hub, the hub must pass the 500mA minimum current.
