A perfect blend of technology and nature

Each set of PS500e headphones is hand-crafted by Grado Labs in Brooklyn, New York. Its outer earcup housings are made of metal alloy, then fitted with an inner sleeve of specially cured mahogany wood. This combination of proprietary materials creates an air chamber that resists unwanted vibration, to ensure your sound remains unaffected by coloration and distortion. Like all Grado headphones, the PS500e uses a vented "open-air" earcup design with large, non-resonant air chambers for powerful, extended bass response and more open, spacious sound. The headphone's wide frequency range ensures you'll hear all of your music. Another nice touch is the genuine leather headband, which you can adjust for a custom fit.

These impressive 'phones work with the headphone outputs on most home audio systems, but to really hear them in all their glory we strongly recommend a headphone amplifier.

Clearity and purity all in one

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Beautiful set of Grados for your human set of ears is boldly on display for the PS500e's. Construction is first rate and the sound quality is almost surreal as I put them on the first time plugging them into an older Sony Cd player with no depth control of bass or treble and just listened for an hour to some blazing rock n roll courtesy of the recently and most sadly deceased Mr. Bowie. There is an instant capture so amazingly even that I sat up and took notice. Sound is pure and yet even had a distinct enhanced quality that didnt seem to be coming from the cd. Just an impressioned density that played me like I was playing them. Not to sound too abstract but the music took on an extra edge of layers that I found really most delightful. Coolness factor is off the scales as they are silvery bliss and I find myself reaching for them more often than not from my half dozen sets of phones that I prize most deliciously. I have a variety of amplifiers, mixers and equalizers at my disposal and it always does amaze me how every set of headphones sounds different with each different source but it is the world of hifi and I love that factor hands down. Comfort is my only real negative and that is a personal thing as I just really enjoy my ear totally enveloped, encircled and enclosed. But the sound is the key here. These are great headphones and I fully commend the fine folks at Grado for their stellar attention to detail and in this pri

Pros: Build, layered sound most amazing and an attractive quality makes them a truly fine bit of brain candy for the demanding skull within us all.

Cons: For Me ....ON the ear fit is a trifle uncomfortable. But a personal thing it is.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are everything reviews say they are. Dynamic, fun, detailed, and for a Grado a good amount of bass oomph. Clearly I'm not a professional reviewer, but I've own a lot of headphones in my time and these are clear favorites. Comfort can be an issue; I use the S-cushions sometimes for really long sessions and they're quite good, can go for hours using them. Also, everyone can hear what you're listening to - they're a home rig only (but that's the nature of the headphone design and how they get their amazing sound).

Pros: Sound quality, build quality, they look and sound amazing.

Cons: For home or office-use only (if you have your own office and can shut the door), comfort.

GEART HEADPHONES

These are great headphones. Sound is amazing. I did purchased the C-Cush for them for more comfort. But for the music I listen to, they are amazing.

Pros: Light in weight Good Comfort Amazing sound

Cons: When I got them I had to take a q-tip to really clean them...Grado let these go out pretty messed up with 'glue' on them or something but after a clean up they are good to go. The wire that leads to one of the ear cups is kind of crimped, I didn't want to deal with an exchange so I kept them and so far no issues because of this.

A precise yet extraordinarily musical headphone

Josh D from Brooklyn, NY on 7/27/2014

Grado headphones are known for putting you "on stage" with the musicians with a rich, melodious, fast presentation and distict nudge toward treble. They seem to have done something a bit different here, and I love it. You can hear the tonal difference between a grand piano played in a concert hall (Keith Jarret Kohln concert) vs when it's played in a small club or studio (John Coltrane Quartet). But you can still hear a level detail of the attack of the guitar strings, the breaths of the singers, and the space between the notes that sometimes makes all the difference. The bass here is a bit more fulfilling - sometimes too much so - than from other grados but the soundstage (e.g. placement of instruments) is also noticeably better. Grado traded a bit of their up front presence for a more realistic (but still fun) presentation while also smoothing out the upper high end in favor of a more balanced and slightly more bassy (but still punchy) delivery. Overall it's a fantastic phone. If you like the old traditional grado sound, I'd recommend either the RS2e or RS1i. If you love the grado sound but also want it with a bit more "fullness", warmth, and depth then these might just be for you.

Pros: Revealing, musical, fun, and engaging

Cons: a bit heavy and on some tracks, bass overcomensates

Features

e series: The Grado e series represents the company's third generation of headphones. Every aspect of the headphones; the drivers, cable, plug, even the glue; has been upgraded for better sound quality and dynamics. As in the previous series, the e series headphones are all made by hand at the Grado Lab facility in Brooklyn, NY.

Professional Series: Grado's Professional Series of headphones feature real Mahogany wood, covered by aluminum (powder-coated or chrome-plated), to create a hybrid air chamber. The Mahogany undergoes a proprietary curing process to enhance its natural tone properties. Because wood is subject to variations in density, the curing process ensures consistency of the signature Grado sound. The Grado Labs use Rhodium, the most expensive precious metal on earth, to prevent corrosion on the connectors. New driver cones and voice coil have been fine-tuned to be consistent throughout the frequency range.

PS500e: The Grado PS500e on-ear headphones have an open back design, and are hand-crafted from real Mahogany wood and covered by a powder-coated aluminum back. The natural wood, aluminum, and Grado Lab's advance damping treatments, help control and dissipate unwanted resonances. The headphones utilize UHPLC (Ultra-High Purity, Long Crystal) oxygen-free copper voice coil wire and state-of-the-art driver design. The 44mm drivers in the PS500e are matched to within 0.05dB for optimum stereo imaging. The headphones also have a genuine top-grain leather padded head strap.

8-Conductor Audio Cable: The PS500e has a high-quality 67" 8-conductor audio cable with a 3.5mm gold-plated plug. This new cable design exhibits greater control over the low and high frequencies, and lets Grado's world-famous midranges sing. The plug has a sturdy molded sleeve with ample stress relief. Included in the box is a gold-plated, snap-on 6.5mm (1/4") adapter that you can use with your home audio components.

Note: The size of the plug sleeve may cause interference with some smartphone cases.

Replaceable Cushions: The high-quality foam rubber circum-aural ear cushions can be removed for cleaning, if needed. If they show signs of wear, you can replace them with the Grado Replacement Cushion L.

Note: The headphone's ear cushions are not covered in the manufacturer's one-year warranty.
