New-school boombox

Aiwa Exos-9

Aiwa brings back the glory days of the classic boombox with the Exos-9 portable Bluetooth speaker. Five built-in speakers and 200 watts of continuous power ensure your music will be heard loud and clear  — even in the great outdoors. And with a dedicated subwoofer the bass will be thumpin' old-school.

5 speakers for big, brawny sound

The Exos-9 features two 1" silk dome tweeters and two 3" neodymium midrange drivers for clean, dynamic sound. The midrange speakers are acoustically isolated in the cabinet to ensure clarity. A 6-1/2" dual voice coil subwoofer cranks out the lows (down to 40 Hz), further reinforced by a rear-firing bass reflex port.

Pairing and operation

Aiwa's made pairing simple – turn on the Exo-9 and it's ready to pair with your device. And the system has built-in NFC (Near Field Communication), so you can pair a compatible device just by touching it to the speaker.

Want even MORE sound? You can pair two Exos-9s together. You can either set them for simple two-channel stereo sound or have one play a summed (left + right) stereo signal.

The speaker has top-mounted control buttons. So you can control it without touching your smartphone.

Power to spare

The speaker's removable rechargeable battery gives you up to 9 hours of portable operation at full power. And you can keep your smartphone charged through the Exos-9's USB charging port.

Did my research in my search for a Bluetooth speaker and ended up with the Aiwa Exos-9. Great price, great sound, and no worthless bells and whistles. Simple to operate, loud, and clear. Very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Good price, great sound, easy to use, simplistic/effective feature set.

Cons: None.

Modern great ghetto blaster

Rand from Ft Collins, CO on 2/2/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just started this single unit up. Fabulous! Instant Bluetooth pairing with my phone and laptop. Able to modify the sound easily with the equalizer. The bass is very good to outstanding for the size of the unit. The volume it produces is massive. No distortion at high volumes. I cannot tolerate the really high volumes it can produce as uncomfortable - not an issue if outdoors. The controls are very low tech and simple which is great. Aiwa knocked it out of the park with this. I am considering buying a second unit to pair for stereo separation in my master bedroom given the great value. It is larger than most portable speakers I have dealt with but well worth it. It is a modern day ghetto blaster. Crutchfield of course got this to me quick and at the standard price.

Pros: Huge volume and outstanding bass. Simple to use.

Cons: None I have found so far.

Awesome speaker but could be better

Jorge from Campbell, CA on 1/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speaker is legit. For the price, I don't think there is a better speaker out there (currently). The sound quality is good, it's loud, and it is easy to operate. I am only giving it four stars because there is always room fro improvement. A better carrying handle, better building materials, and a more modern display would make this speaker a must have. I would not mind paying an extra 50 to 100 dollars if these changes were made. But for now, enjoy!

Best Bluetooth speaker

Alvin from S Ozone Park, NY on 1/25/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All things considered this is the best Bluetooth speaker available. It is LOUD true sound without distortion. It is not for carrying around in your pocket but it is not as heavy as one may think. I compared ONE exos to TWO HK 4. The HKs had a nice sound but the exos drowned them out especially because the HK lose a lot of sound when on battery power. No loss of volume or quality when the exos is on battery power. The EQ is a nice touch along with the AUX in. I just want a sub to connect to a pair of these exos bc I can't have enough bass. (I grew up with cerwin vega earthquakes). If portability is not your absolute #1 priority then buy this speaker you will enjoy it. Then like me you will buy a 2nd one to use them in stereo mode.

Pros: Loud. Does not lose power when on battery mode like other speakers. No distortion or vibrations. Ability to adjust sound with EQ. AUX in connection.

Cons: You can only connect two where it would have been great to be able to do multi zones/ whole house with these. A bit on the higher price range.

Aiwa is Back

Eddie from Chapel Hill, NC on 1/20/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I had an awesome Aiwa system about 25 years ago as a kid an absolutely loved it so I had to give this unit a try. For my application I wanted to find a singular speaker that had full range sound and also had a little horsepower behind it that I could put in my garage and jam to. I initially tried a JBL tube type speaker but its sound was very subpar. I then tried the Harman Kardon Onxy which sounds pretty great. It was my runner up. But after plugging in this big hog and firing it up it was easily the champ. Since it has 3 different sized speakers (tweeter, midrange, woofer) it can produce the full range of sound I wanted. At half volume, it was as loud as the other speakers on full volume. An added bonus is that it has an EQ (like the Aiwa's of old) so you can tweak the sound for your liking. In summary, this unit it what you want it you want full range sound that can also play loud.

Pros: Sound quality Loudness Equalizer Build quality

Cons: Didn't buy it sooner

WOW!!!!

Richard from Watkins Glen, NY on 1/15/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the 5th bluetooth speaker I have purchased. Although two of the others were about the same price as the Aiwa Exos-9, none of the others come close in sound quality and volume. I was hoping for a bluetooth speaker with enough punch to play it outdoors and I definitely got my wish. We host a lot of outdoor parties around a campfire and I used to have to drag out 2 large PA speakers, run wires to my Yamaha home receiver that I use in my shop, and hook a bluetooth device to that receiver. No longer will that be necessary with this Aiwa sound beast. The fact that you can dock two of these together is very interesting and I can't imagine what two of them would sound like, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to find out in the not too distant future. The on board graphic equalizer with memory settings is a nice touch, I have saved settings for indoors and outdoors. If you're looking for great sound with lots of volume this is the one for you!

Pros: Well built. quality workmanship, GREAT sound.

Cons: A little awkward to carry, but a nice carry bag is optional, with zippered openings for wiring connections and the bass port so you can leave it in the bag and use it. I purchased one, but they should charge a little more and include it.

Bang for the Buck

Bob from Poughquag, NY on 1/9/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a Bang for the Buck story. LOUD, high definition sound from 5 *active* speakers. Graphic Equalizer. Smooth sounding silk dome tweeters. Bass that somehow can play 40 hertz at clearly audible levels, in a package you can bring anywhere. Long lasting *replaceable* battery that can charge your phone over and over. At this price, there was nothing better that I could find, and I did tons of research. YES, it's heavy, and that's a good thing. Lightweight speakers have lightweight sound. I am so glad I bought this.

Pros: Incredible sound reproduction!!

Cons: It is a little bit on the heavy side for a portable Bluetooth speaker but so worth it.

Vin from Ontario, OR on 12/17/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amazing detailed sound with powerful bass. Probably the best sound you will find in a Bluetooth speaker that is portable with a battery. Compared to the JBL Xtreme, way more power and volume, a lot more bass. And the Xtreme sounds really good! If you are used to something smaller like the JBL Charge 3 and want an upgrade, this Bluetooth speaker will blow you away. It's still a bit heavy, isn't waterproof and won't fit in your backpack. I will keep my Xtreme for when I need portability. All the five star reviews out there ARE NOT HYPE! If you still aren't sold and you want comparisons, check out videos on the internet comparing this speaker with others. I am so glad I bought this, even without hearing it with my own ears before I purchased it. I am a very happy customer!

Pros: Great sound, built in subwoofer for powerful bass, seperate tweeters and mids for detail. Looks really nice, built in equalizer. 200 watt rating is no joke, it is very loud! Sounds great outside, too!

Cons: No IPX rating for water resistance, the backlighting for the buttons doesn't stay on for very long, when unplugged and on battery it shuts off after awhile with no music playing. These are small quips when you get used to how awesome this Bluetooth speaker sounds!

Best Bluetooth Speaker? DEFINITELY!

Bill from Naperville, IL on 10/27/2017

Saying "Wow" or "Phenomenal" or any other adjective does not do this product justice. What I will say is that it suited my needs in the following ways: - power - you FEEL the music even at lower levels that won't disturb the neighbors, but yet the music is still as you'd expect it to sound which you can't say about the smaller portables (which also rely on way to much bass - bass needs treble as an offset people) - multi-function - yes, this is a big unit, but it is light to me when you grab it by the padded handle (nice touch Aiwa) and this unit is portable because of the built-in battery which you can't say about the Bose Soundtouch 20/30's etc. - appeal - this unit is CLASSY in appearance and properly done - SOUND - this is what the product was made for, right? Besides the five speakers (yes, 5! and none of them are those passive radiators which don't do anything in my opinion,) this product also has a built-in 5 band graphic equalizer (thankfully not 3 band, another kudos to Aiwa.) The built-in EQ allows you to use one of 4 preset settings or adjust it yourself and this functionality just makes the unit that much more well-rounded for filling anyone's needs for proper sound. This product I'm sure can be improved upon (what product can't be,) but as it stands this is the BEST BLUETOOTH speaker at a fantastic price that I applaud Aiwa for selling it at. This speaker NEEDS to be on many holiday wish/gift lists. Anyone owning or receiving this speaker w

Pros: SOUND! Graphic Equalizer to customize sound Five (5!) true speakers LOW PRICE!

Cons: None that I can think of

Cons: Couldn't find anything negative. It works very well

The LCD screen does not provide song/artist/album information from your Bluetooth or Aux music source. The Power on/off switch is located on the back of the speaker.

Rechargeable Battery + AC Power: The Aiwa Exos-9 Bluetooth speaker can be powered using the included battery pack or AC power adapter. The included battery pack must be installed and provides 8-10 hours of playback time (depends on music & volume level). The included AC power adapter can be used to power the speaker, as well as charge the battery (it takes approximately 2-3 hours for a full charge).

Note: There is a Battery Save mode which can be used to extend the Bluetooth speaker's battery life, by removing some of the lowest, most power-hungry bass harmonics from your music.

Carry Handle: The Aiwa Exos-9 has a convenient built-in carry handle to move the Bluetooth speaker around your house. Although the Exos-9 is portable, it is not waterproof or water-resistant.

Placement: With a large, powerful, bass-reflex speaker like the Exos-9, where you put the speaker can affect the sound. If you place the Exos-9 near a wall or in a corner, the bass may increase.

Looks like a badass unit...large sub...5 speakers...cant go wrong. I have a cube by definitive technology has been a great unit for three years, but the battery life isn't like it used to be. Gonna give this speaker a try because of all the great reviews online. From many different sources. The speaker I currently have was a big disappointment (G-Project G-Boom) both in quality and sound. From what I've been able to research online, the Aiwa should be a big step up. [ Jeffrey  Jan 19, 2018 ]

Mine has been impeccable and suits my needs flawlessly. It's been awesome! Recommended! [ Eric  Feb 03, 2018 ]
Hi, I have owned it since last summer. I've had no hiccups at all with Bluetooth. Also have lot of other wireless things running around it. It is a great sounding speaker. Has a nice hi-fi sound. Only thing I didn't like, you can't use Bluetooth and line-in input at same time. Have to choose one or other. I use it for output of a 'busking' system (for playing guitar with backing tracks). Thrilled with the clean pleasant (warm) sounding silk dome tweeters (not harsh at all). It has a good balanced sound..but can pump out the bass too. The case is a must if traveling with it. It's a nice fit. I just got the larger extended life battery for it. The one in it will go for long time though. Just want extra in case. Can't beat it for the price. [ Phil  Feb 02, 2018 ]
Lila I haven't had any issues with this speaker whatsoever. I use it every weekend and I love it! The bass is great and the playback is consistent and clear. [ Julienne  Feb 02, 2018 ]
Very happy with our Aiwa Exos-9, no hiccups. [ Marston  Feb 02, 2018 ]

It plays in stereo and sounds awesome but eventually you'll want two. [ Ron  Nov 27, 2017 ]
The unit plays in stereo, no need for a second unit. [ Eric  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Yes it plays in stereo. Beautifully I might add. They say you can hook up two together to double the pleasure, but I don't think it has anything to do with it being in stero. At least that's my understanding of it. [ FRED  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Hi Jean. I touched base with our buyers this morning. They are going to contact Aiwa this morning to bring on the carrying case, so it should be available very soon. [ Jeff  Oct 31, 2017 ]  Staff
I would not expose the unit to water or direct sun. I purchased the vinyl bag/case to keep accidental water and dust from reaching the speaker. [ Toby  Aug 22, 2017 ]
