This antenna is becoming a legend among "cord-cutters"

Mohu Leaf

Mohu Leaf Ultimate mounted on a wall.

The Leaf® Ultimate is Mohu's best performing super-thin TV antenna. It mounts easily to a wall, or just about anywhere, really. You can even hide it behind a picture on the wall. The Leaf Ultimate can receive free over-the-air HDTV broadcasts from multiple directions, so you don't have to move it to pick up signals from different TV towers.

The Leaf's sophisticated super-thin design is modeled after a mud flap antenna designed for the U.S. military. It can pull in stations in the UHF and high-band VHF ranges (channels 7-51). You'll generally get the best reception if you can place the antenna fairly high on a wall or close to a window, away from the TV and other components. The Leaf is white on one side and black on the other, and is also paintable for even greater room décor adaptability.

Mohu's signal amplifier gives the Ultimate its edge

What makes this antenna "Ultimate" is Mohu's high-performance antenna amplifier. It uses patent-pending technology to increase reception range while filtering out the RF noise that can harm picture quality. Compared to the Leaf antenna alone, most people find that the Ultimate's antenna/amplifier combo lets them receive more stations, while also producing a clearer picture on stations with less-than-perfect reception. The compact amplifier module connects between the Leaf antenna and your TV.

You have a couple of options for powering the amplifier. There's a mini USB port on the amplifier module, which allows you to power it off of any standard USB port on your TV — the USB-to-mini-USB cable is included. The advantage of USB power is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, instead of 24/7. If you don't have an available USB port on your TV, the amplifier also includes a regular AC power adapter, which you can plug into any standard wall outlet.

Product Highlights:

  • receives digital and analog TV signals — high-band VHF (channels 7-13) and UHF (channels 14-51)
  • range is 50 miles
  • paper-thin design is ideal for wall-mounting
  • includes amplifier module with 15 dB gain and CleanPeak™ filtering
  • mini USB jack for AC power — amplifier can be powered via USB port on your TV or via standard AC wall outlet (cable included)

  • antenna: 11-1/2"W x 10-7/8"H x 9/16"D; amplifier: 3-1/16"W x 11/16"H x 1-3/8"D
  • warranty: 1 year

Nice Looking

Shoshanna from Tallahassee FL on 8/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I won't give it a bad review but cannot unfortunately give it a great one either. I think for some it would be a great antenna, but unfortunately for me it just did not work. I will say that it was probably due to at least somehow the large trees in my living complex or the fact that we are in the middle of a very busy town but I felt it worth a try. I will be returning it but please do not let my rating discourage you if you live where the area is clearer of obstructions.

Pros: Looks very nice not gaudy Easy set up and good directions included

Cons: In areas where there are trees or buildings about just does not work.

I love this product work well, easy enough to install, if it doesn't work well after installed, remove the USB part just use the direct wire from antenna itself would work, that mean your area is close to signal, my area I got 20 channels. enough for me to watch TV without cable

Good Antenna

Ed from Adams County, PA on 6/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This antenna works as advertised. I live in a rural area, about 40+ miles from most TV stations. Out of seven that I had a chance getting I got four. This antenna is a stop gap measure. My outside antenna is inop and I can not climb the tower at this time. I would rate this antenna better if it had better amplification. This antenna would be perfect for a suburb or city

Pros: 5 minutes to set up simple

Cons: Rural areas iffy

Cons: Little unsightly on the wall but you can live with it.

Just did not work

Anonymous from Toledo, OH on 5/21/2014

Got this to watch the local station that is not on cable. It did pull a bad signal on two others.

Pros: None

Cons: It did not work for me.

Mohu Leaf Ultimate HD antenna

KCML from Green Bay, WI on 5/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It worked, but It did not work as well as I hoped which is not surprising because I am in a difficult reception area. There are 12 channels that I could possibly receive but I could only get 8 and a couple of those were pixilated at times. I guess I am resigned to the fact I will have to stay with cable or dish. I am letting my daughter try it now and if it fills her need we will keep the MOHU.

Pros: Easy setup. Small size. Picture quality is good on the channels I received.

Cons: None that are the fault of the MOHU. The only con that I have is my reception location.

Anthony from Doylestown, Pa on 3/29/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was told I probably would not get the lower channels that the Mohu was mainly gaged for the channels above channel 10. I live in a house that I can not get a cell phone signal unless I am by a window. The Mohu is able to pick up all the channels that are in this area with the exception of two one is a high channel and one is low. I have not tried different areas of the house so it is still in the 1st place I tried. So I might be unfair giving it 4 stars with more of an effort on my part. All in all I am very happy with my purchase. I am also happy with the help I received from the Crutchfield representative that helped me with my purchase.

Pros: Its flat so it can be put just about anywhere using the pin holes , it has a white side so it blends in. Worked right out of the box with no tools. I get a great Picture with it.

Cons: Can not think of any unless maybe 2 more pin holes to attach it to the ceiling but not really a good con in my book.

simple, but not impressive

JimHL from Columbus, NJ on 2/11/2014

This was the first system I tried after I cut the cable bill. I got some stations about 5, but not all I wanted. In particular, no VHF at all (not channel whyy 12 pbs for instance). I am about 25 miles from Philadelphia transmitters, and have clear line of site on a slight hill (bump). I later got the channel master 2018. It is not really fair to compare these, but since they are the same price, it seems justified. The 2018 got over 50 channels in very crisp, with the antenna sitting on my kitchen table. I will be placing it in my attic. I would only get the leaf if you are much closer to stations. I give this a rating of 1, because it says 50 miles for an indoor antenna. That is a joke, since my big 2018 only rates 45 miles for the more powerful UHF, and that is for when it is mounted on a roof 30 feet up. The stated distance is overly optimistic and useless. There is just a limit to how much signal can be extracted and amplified from such a small device.

Pros: simple, easy and attractive.

Cons: Only good for very close stations, and not VHF, unless you are really close.

Bye Bye Cable!

Jimbo from Charlottesville, VA on 2/6/2014

We got tired of paying for cable that we really didn't watch and decided to try the Mohu Leaf Ultimate. We live in a valley so I didn't know what to expect reception wise, but the Mohu Leaf Ultimate brought in all the local channels with great clarity. For the price of one month of cable I bought the antenna, get local channels in hi def, and still can watch the cable shows I want to on the web.

Pros: Good reception and easy to install.

Indoor HD antenna - Mohu

dc from nh from rindge, nh on 1/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this as a gift for use in the metropolitian DC area. Picked up a number of local stations. Works well enough inside this metro area.

Pros: Easy to install, nice small unassuming size, choice of what or black showing on wall to help blend in. Has holes in it and pins to facilitate hanging it.

Cons: It is somewhat directional in its reception so if transmission towers are scattered you may have to either settle for one group of reposition it more often.

Very satisfied with the high definition channels coming over the air. No high dollar tv packages need here.

Thomas5773 from Dunkirk NY on 12/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Saving money by using internet cable only, I found my streaming device was a blast but I still needed over the air stations for local and date of broadcast network shows. Research your location and broadcast tower locations to see which antenna is right for you. Mohu ultimate was a great value for me. At time of my purchase Crutchfield price beat the big box mega retailers. Don't be reluctant to try different mounting locations for best reception.. I now receive 14 stations! Beautiful HD picture on the stations I wanted most. Signal on outlying towers may be adversely affected temporarily by weather. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Station availability. No subscrption fees.

Cons: Some may find aesthetics of square antenna odd. (depends on location you choose).

Only acquiredtwo additional channels. With all due respect one one the local 'Christian Channel'

Pros: Light weight easy to install

Cons: No better reception than an old set of 'rabbit ears' I found. Not conducive to hanging on living room wall

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality and clarity of reception was very, very good, an absolute surprise to me. The reception distance is only 60 miles and had move and reset several times to receive all our local channels as this purchase was predicated by the Dish TV fight with Media General

Pros: Color was almost as good as my HDTV reception, a pleasant surprise

Cons: Tricky to set up so that we could get all local channels

Could have been better

Gino from Houston, TX on 11/16/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nicely made, easy to install, works fine out of the box. Tunes up just fine. Sensitive to where positioned.

Pros: Well made item, convenient connections.

Cons: Amplification of the signal causes rough edges between black and white on the picture of my Samsung plasma TV. My house is 22 miles from the TV tower. Adjustable gain would be a big plus. Sensitive to weather conditions. Had to send it back and kept my DirecTV. It's by far more superior, even compared to cable! In any case it appeared that using antennas would be OK if you are ready to compromise quality for a lesser cost.

Did not work for me

JMUUVA from Moonachie, NJ on 10/31/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Tried more than 15 different locations in my living room and got only one channel. I am 40 miles away from New York City.

Pros: Light weight

Cons: Did not work well. Expensive.

Works well

Anonymous from Sudbury, MA on 10/28/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simple to setup. Placed it 15 ft above ground level - receive 31 channels including 29 digital. Now we can watch all the major brosdcast networks. Digital channels have extremely crisp and clear picture.

Pros: Simple to setup, small one-time investment to receive broadcast channels, clear digital picture

Cons: Broadcast signal transmission depends on location relative to transmitters, and topology - meaning it won't work for everyone. Follow the Crutchfield Labs "Choosing the best HDTV Antenna" information to determine if it will work for you.

Mohu Leaf

jrcrawdad from Exeter, NH on 10/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This antenna was very easy to set up, but unfortunately I live at the bottom of a hill and have another hill behind me that is higher than my house. So, I was only able to get one station with the antenna. It doesn't matter how good an antenna is if there is no signal for it to pick up.

Pros: easy to install, unobtrusive design.

A Welcomed Reception

Soundman from Greenville, NC on 10/6/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first multi-directional amplified antenna. I have used amplified directional UHF & VHF antennas before and they worked ok but, you may not get all the desired channels with the antenna pointed in one direction. It is a different ball game with Mohu's multi-directional amplified antenna, find a great place for it, scan for channels, and if your happy leave it there. Mohu's website will ask for your zip code, this is to determine which antenna will give you the best viewing experience for your viewing area. The website showed I would get about 20 channels. I hooked it up, scanned for channels, and ended up with 25 channels. The channel quality was great and it would vary depending on the broadcast. Please keep in mind, the channel quality will be different from channel to channel according to the resolution the station is broadcasting. You may get 1080i, 720p, & 480i digital channels. Some 480i channels may look clearer than others, this is a reflection on the broadcasting station. It is nice that Mohu has colored this antenna white and black so it will go with just about anything. For installation, the thumb tac's are great as they make less noticeable marks on the walls and make for easy moving or reposition. All in all, this is a great product. I recommend it if you want to get off cable or if you want local channels and you are a satellite subscriber. On the other hand, if you do not watch much television, this will suffice to give you the basics.

Pros: As Thin As Paper, Excellent Reception, Easy to Install, Small Form, Looks Nice, It Works Great

Cons: Higher price tag, but it works great and costs less than many of it's competitors of equal quality.

A Decet Antenna for Free TV Reception

KG from Munster, IN on 9/15/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was skeptical about buying a small, flat indoor TV antenna, but Mohu Leaf Ultimate turned out to be quite a powerful one. The set up was extremely easy - I just hooked it up to my TV with the USB supply and placed the flat antenna a little above the TV. After scanning for channels, I received most channels that I had previously received using a rabbit ear antenna. After varying the locations a few times and trying to lay the antenna flat and vertically, I settled for CBS, ABC, WGN, PBS and several UHF stations. Although I am unable to receive NBC, which I used to receive using my Terk antenna, I am happy with the Mohu Leaf - its size is small and it's conspicuous. Now the question is how long it will continue to provide good reception - Terk was good for about a year and the it stopped working. I hope Mohu Leaf will last longer than that!

Pros: Size, form, price, and, of course, reception capability.

Cons: Not all channels from the Chicago area are available.

For me, marginal at best

Lloyd from Mobile, AL on 8/28/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Actually 2 1/2 stars. Only about five of the twelve available channels were were found with acceptable quality. The product was not attractive hanging on the wall of my living area.

Pros: None

Cons: Unattractive, relatively expensive, unsatisfactory performance in my situation

Mud-Flap style Antenna: The Leaf  Ultimate indoor antenna is paper thin and modeled after a discrete mud-flap style antenna designed for the US Military. The Leaf Ultimate indoor antenna mounts on the wall, behind a picture, or just about anywhere to enable you to receive free over-the-air broadcasts. It is also  reversible (black/white) and paintable to match your room's decor.

Note: The Leaf Ultimate antenna performs best within 50 miles of TV transmission towers.

Amplifier w/ Clean Peak Filter Technology: The included digital antenna amplifier with Clean Peak Filter Technology is designed to amplify TV stations and filter out any RF signals that can hinder picture quality. The digital amplifier allows you to pull in a clearer picture, more stations, and increase overall performance.

USB/AC Powered: The digital antenna amplifier is powered via a USB port located on the amp which allows you to power the antenna amplifier using an open USB port on the back of your TV. The advantage of doing so is that the amplifier will only draw power when the TV is turned on, eliminating parasitic power consumption when the amplifier isn't needed. If you do not have an open USB port on the back of your TV, the antenna amplifier also includes an AC power adapter that will enable you to power the amplifier using any standard AC wall outlet.

16' RF-Coax Cable: The Mohu Leaf Ultimate includes a 16' RF-coaxial cable, giving you the flexibility to place the antenna much higher on a wall or close to a window for optimal reception.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

Bought this for my daughter that lives in DC. We were able to get a number of local stations in that area, even inside their apt, BUT you may have to change spots for the antenna for a particular station. It all depends where the transmitters are located, how high up you are and what obstructions you might encounter. Transmitter locations should be found on-line if you are interested. In a major city signal strength should not be a problem, just location and obstructions. [ DOMINIC  Aug 13, 2014 ]
i purchased the amplified leaf for my son who lives in arural area in pa. he had old rabbit ears where the signal went in and out when he hooked up the leaf he couldnt believe it not only onlt were the hd channels crysrtal clean he was receiving some channels he didnt know he had .you should be able to receive every available over the air channel [ BRUCE  Aug 12, 2014 ]
Unfortunately I don't think I can be of much help. I live at the other end of the state. To add to your woe's I am only able to pick up UHF Channels and not VHF and not all the time. I will say the television in in my basement and moveing the antenna around does help at times. But, again, only for UHF Channels [ DAVE  Aug 12, 2014 ]
Probably will be able to but I live 600 miles from there. Mohu is terrific! We receive about 15 stations. About a 40 -50 mile radius. Much better reception than cable. Great buy! Good luck to you!! [ RALPH  Aug 12, 2014 ]
It didn't work for me: 1. Failed to pick up all local channels; 2. Appeared to be sentitive to placement (hight and direction). I had to return it. It doesn't mean that the antenna is bad, there might have been other reasons related to my home and TV location. So, I bought a different one and it worked fine. [ Eugene  Aug 11, 2014 ]
Sorry I live in Harrisonburg Va. And it works great here but I can't answer the question for Queens. [ DALE  Aug 11, 2014 ]
No, i don't think it would be unless you were very close to the station antennas. [ DOUGLAS  May 31, 2014 ]
i could not get this antenna to work it kept needing to be reset [ brad  May 31, 2014 ]
Using it in ground level apartment [ LARRY  May 29, 2014 ]
I don't think so. I'm pretty happy with the antenna, but it will not receive all the channels that Mohu says it will on the internet in my area. I was told that was because all the incoming antennas are on the south side of my house and I have it mounted in a north facing bedroom. I would think the reception would be worse in a basement. [ JOHN  May 29, 2014 ]
I live on a hill just outside of Harrisonburg and have it in my living room on my main level and it works great. Sorry I do not have living quarters downstairs so I can not speak accurately to a basement apartment. They will let you buy it and try it out to see if it works for your particular situation. [ DALE  May 29, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: That antenna already has a built in amp so another amp won't be a good choice. Unless the antenna is defective you should be able to pick up stations within 50 miles between channels 7-51 depending on what is offered in your area. You can check the antenna web guide to get an idea what you should be getting here: If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
