Streaming music for the audio enthusiast

If you're serious about your music and its sound quality, here's good news. With the Bluesound system you can play your high-resolution music files and enjoy easy access to your whole music collection throughout your home. Bluesound was designed by the makers of NAD electronics and PSB speakers, both experts when it comes to delivering high-performance audio.

Turn your CD collection into a bit-perfect digital music archive

The Vault 2 features a 2TB storage drive, so it can easily accommodate the larger file sizes of high-resolution digital audio. And it makes it easy to bring your CD collection into the Bluesound ecosystem. Just slip a CD into the slot. The Vault 2 defaults to ripping bit-perfect digital copies of your discs, so you'll hear every detail contained in the original versions. Plus, you can transfer other digital music files which you may have stored on various computers around the house, consolidating all your digital libraries into the Vault 2 for easy access.

Once you've loaded your collection, you'll be able to enjoy all of your music in any room with a Bluesound player. And the Vault 2 is also a Bluesound music player — connect it to your receiver, amplifier, or other audio system using its digital or analog outputs. (Just keep in mind, you'll need to make a wired Ethernet connection between the Vault 2 and your network router.)

High-res audio

A universe of music options

Bluesound is compatible with virtually all digital music formats — including high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192kHz. Access the music stored on your computer or a networked hard drive. Stream from Internet radio stations and online services like Spotify®, Rhapsody, and TIDAL. You can also enjoy downloads from high-res music sites such as HDtracks.  The player is compatible with MQA, an up-and-coming high-resolution audio format. The Vault 2 also features a USB input for playing files "locally" from a thumb drive or hard drive — ideal when friends come over with their own music.

High-quality Bluetooth

The Vault 2 features aptX® audio coding, an advanced form of Bluetooth that allows higher-fidelity sound with compatible Bluetooth devices. The system is backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth, too. Bluetooth is a convenient way to play the sound from any app you might be using on your mobile device, including Netflix® and YouTube™. You can even share that Bluetooth source with other Bluesound music players around your house that are connected to the same network.

Bluesound app

Control the system through Bluesound's free app for your smartphone or tablet.

Create a high-resolution multi-room music system

Combine multiple Bluesound players to enjoy high-end sound throughout your home.

  • Powernode 2: This amplified player connects to a pair of speakers. It may be small, but it's powerful enough to drive a pair of floor-standing speakers.
  • Pulse 2: This all-in-one player is perfect for almost any room. It has built-in PSB speakers for great sound in a compact package.
  • Duo: This 2.1 audio system features two speakers and subwoofer, ideal for TV or computer sound.
  • Pulse Mini: This compact, all-in-one speaker system is ideal for a bookshelf, desk, or nightstand.

Control in the palm of your hand

The Bluesound system is easily controlled from your smartphone or tablet. Just download the free app from the Apple® App Store, or Google Play. The app lets you select songs and adjust volume. Choose to play music in one room, all rooms, or different tracks in different spaces around your home.

Outstanding value for the money. That it lets me send hi-res LPCM directly to my receiver alone is reason enough to love it, but the remote app works much more reliably than the one for the device I replaced with this. DSD fans beware: it does not do this.

I like MY music, over 800 cd''s. When my two 400 cd carousels finally gave up, I was lost for a replacement. The Vault 2 fits the bill for me completely. Only takes a few minutes to rip each cd. The downloadable app to control everything is easy to use and to organize the music. Love all the Internet radio streaming music. Connected easily to my Yamaha receiver and Bose speakers. I'm back in business with my music again. Happy and worth the price to me.

Pros: Storage and access to personal CD collection.

Cons: Little pricey for me but we'll worth it.

Needs several years of work to perfect

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The storage function works well, though there are numerous errors in ripping. Bluesound absolves themselves of any screwups in the default indexing, which are numerous...many CDs are "unknown" or need significant changing of the tags to be recognizable. The default indexing is totally useless for classical music. I am having to pay a computerish guy several hundreds of dollars to work through one of the recommended media metadata products just to do the basics, like, uh, list all the works of Bach. There is a huge gap between the storage function and the indexing and cataloging of the music.

Pros: Storage is great.

Cons: Indexing requires very advanced computer skills. My friend with a computer science degree can hardly figure out the interface between Bluesound/recommended media manager/tagging programs works.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

4.5 stars; the half start is related to the learning curve related to the app that controls the operation of the machine. Love it! Great sound quality. Takes about 5 - 10 minutes per CD rip. I wish the app had better functionality related to random play. Still learning the best way to amend song tags, when songs and/or album art don't come through. More streaming choices than I'll ever likely use!

Pros: Great sound quality, ease of CD rips, tremendous streaming choices.

Cons: Hope the app is refined in the area of random play functions.

Great product that is built for the HD future

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Bluesound Vault 2 is a high quality and well engineered device. It was easy to install, it sounds great, and its BluOS app (v. 2.8.3) is well designed and allows you to find your music fast. I use the Vault 2 to house my collection of classical music. This classical library consists of HD FLAC files that have a bit depth of 24 bits and a sampling rate of 96 kHz (purchased from classical download stores) and CDs that have been ripped at 16 bits with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz (the common bit/rate for audio CDs). While the majority of my music (85%) is 16/44.1 I wanted a system that would accept the higher HD rate of 24/96--which is now about 20% of my library--and growing as more titles are being offered in 24/96. The Vault 2 meets this important criteria and at a fair price. I originally looked at Sonos but decided against it as it does not support 24/96--which is why Sonos can offer their unit at a lower price . If you just want to rip your 16/44 CD collection, then the Sonos will work for you. If you want 24/96 go with the Vault 2. Another criteria that I looked at was "Did it have a built in DAC (Digital-Analogue-Converter)?" With many high end audio media servers (in the $2000 plus range) you need to purchase a separate DAC. While there are many audiophiles who would argue that this will lead to better sounding music I'm not sure that I buy this argument. Because my hearing is between 20 Hz to 20 KHz (along with the rest of humanity), I didn't th

Pros: High quality, easy to install, allows for 24/96 HD recordings, incremental backup, built in DAC, BluOS app has great search and sort features

Cons: BlueOS app truncates long album and song titles. Need scrolling/marquee feature.

A beautiful design, easy to hook up and play.

Pros: Easy to hook up. I found the tech support very helpful. It works with my old amplifier and speakers.

Cons: Lacking instruction how to turn it off. The system requiring a direct Ethernet connection to an Internet or router.

Exactly What I Wanted

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like this product very much. As A senior I am faced with the notion of having to leave a house that is just too big and compressing everything that has to do with my interests in music. I have well over 1000 CD's and need to compress the space necessary to store them. The Vault 2 seems to be the perfect solution when coupled with my Cambridge AZUR 851 and my Grado Reference Headphones to keep my listening experience at the highest level while keeping physical space needs minimal. I also have a huge collection of MP3 files containing both music and old time radio shows.

Pros: Huge storage capacity, MP3 capabilities, ability to use streaming services. Crutchfield support has been great as well as the technical support I have received directly from Blue Sound. Overall the whole experience has been quite positive.

Cons: Blu OS can be a bit obtuse at times and it would have been nice to have a user guide. It does take a lot of work to set up one's library and it does take the use of an external software application to that items like classical music composers and genre are truly useful, but with the size of my collection it is worth it to make searching as good as I want it to be. None of these turn me off about the product.

Good, but not without drawbacks...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is definitely a niche product, but if you've got a large CD collection, you care about audio fidelity, and you want the convenience of a "jukebox" containing your entire collection, this just may be the product for you. The Bluesound Vault 2 can hold thousands of CDs, stored in bit-perfect format, preserving all of the original fidelity. Each "cut" also includes metadata for the artist, song title, genre, album artwork, etc. Building your library in the Vault is a long, tedious, and at times frustrating, process due to unreadable or mis-identified disks. But once completed, you'll love having all your music at your fingertips. Now I keep my CDs in the closet.

Pros: 1. Adding your CD's couldn't be simpler, just insert to rip. 2. The software user interface is attractive and intuitive. 3. You can create and save playlists from your library. "Shuffle" playback is possible.

Cons: 1. The Vault must be hard-wired (RJ-45 cable) to your router. 2. Recording is a lengthy process - 10-20 min per CD. 3. Disk reading is not as robust as I'd hope. Some CDs which play fine on other equipment will be unreadable by the Vault. 4. CDs get mis-identified, and there's no way to correct those metadata errors without third-party software (ie Media Monkey or similar). 5. No provision to delete unwanted tracks. 6. Backup requires a 2TB USB drive -- nothing smaller wil

Bluesound Vault 2 Not Yet Ready For Prime Time

gprace from Long Island, NY on 3/12/2016

Basic rip and store functions okay, but nothing else. Rejects numerous discs with error message saying rip taking to long. When I spoke to tech support at Bluesound they called this CD paranoia. Sounds like an excuse for poor firmware or software. I checked the disks and they rip perfectly to my old Escient Fireball and play on any CD player. Poor sourcing for titles and genres (numerous errors). No provision to correct this in the menu. Cannot selectively delete music without going back to computer operating system. When requested if there would be any updates to correct some of the issues, the tech told me that management had no plans to do anything about these issues. My 10 year old Escient Fireball had better functionality than this. Unfortunately it is out of production and I cannot have it serviced. I have a bad feeling that we owners will be left high and dry.

Pros: Rips discs to hard drive and has sufficient storage.

Cons: Everything else. Poor support. Support lacks knowledge. Parent company unwilling to update to correct some of the problems Poor genre naming (they probably use some open source instead of paying Gracenote). No way to delete music in the menu.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been looking for a simple, and straightforward way to store my over 900 CD's, by just inserting and ripping them directly to a unit, that was easy to use. I found it!

Pros: Very simple functionality, large storage capacity (2TB), easy to insert/rip CD's directly to the unit, small inconspicuous profile, and easy to use via tap let or smart phone.

Cons: A little tedious to insert each individual CD, no wifi capability (a big oversight) that requires a hard-wired Ethernet connection. You can remedy this by using a wifi extender (with a local port) at the location of the unit. Should provide a more comprehensive user manual with the unit.

RussK from Arizona on 12/9/2015

Love the look and sound of the new Vault2. Has multiple connectivity options and simple interaction buttons on top. It has a 2TB hardrive so you can store a lot of songs. Hooking up to internet radio was a breeze. However, you must download the app to a smart device in order to have a remote. A separate one is not included. The app is ok but certainly could be improved. The unit automatically rips a cd when you put it in which is both good and bad. It is obviously easy to add content but it doesn't let you select which ones you want to keep. To delete anything you have to go through a computer and view the songs at the file level. Not convenient for me at all. Also as mentioned earlier, you have to physically connect an Ethernet cable as it is not 'smart' enough to be a stand alone wireless device on a network.

Pros: Looks and sounds good. Easy to add songs.

Cons: Mediocre application interface, can not be a wireless stand alone, difficult to delete songs.

Vault2

Vault2 from Colorado Springs, Co on 10/30/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros: Fast and convenient. Cons: Design deficiencies: 1) it does not play via Bluetooth to my Bose "Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III" (or any other standard' 'Bluetooth speaker). 2) It does not wirelessly communicate with my wireless router; it must be connected via its physical Ethernet port. 3) The app for it does not work unless the Vault2 is connected to the router. For such a well designed appliance; these deficiencies are quite surprising. Their addition is simple and a gross lapse in engineering and marketing judgement. My fear is that when these are added to the product I will not have an 'upgrade' path and would be required to purchase the product outright again to get these underdesigned features. 4) No tech manual provided If either Bluesound or Crutchfield show me otherwise on any of these; I would be grateful.

Pros: Fast and convenient

Cons: Design deficiencies: 1) it does not play via Bluetooth to my Bose "Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III" (or any other standard' 'Bluetooth speaker). 2) It does not wirelessly communicate with my wireless router; it must be connected via its physical Ethernet port . 3) The app for it does not work unless the Vault2 is connected to the router. 4) No tech manual provided

Why did you buy this?

I wanted a hi-res music source [ Gary  Jan 14, 2018 ]
This was recommended by a co-worker -- I needed a replacement for old stereo equipment, wanted digital capability along with ability to keep my existing CDs. This multi-purpose unit is exactly what I was looking for [ Maureen Reigh  Dec 05, 2017 ]
We wanted to rip our CD collection and store the data locally. This device met all of our criteria. [ Suzanne  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Supports 192/24 along with transferring CD's onto decent size hard drive easily. Very easily! [ Lorenzo  Nov 10, 2017 ]
Already have one. Works great. [ J  Sep 13, 2017 ]
This device is the insanely awesome. I have over 800'CD's I put on here, plus...you can now transfer your iTunes library into the Vault. I've never had a problem and have 11k songs on mine. Works flawlessly! [ titanium man  Jun 29, 2017 ]
I needed a fast, easy, and reliable method for converting my extensive CD collection, while making it easy playback on my stereo system. The Vault 2's ability to copy discs using high resolution FLAC files was a must have. I'm very happy with this purchase. Now if I could only get one for the car! [ Robert  May 19, 2017 ]
Best quality wireless audio. Sonos does not have a device like this that can ingest and store my cd collection and also stream Spotify. [ Robert  Apr 08, 2017 ]
I have 1500 cds to convert to digital media. This seems like the ideal solution. Time will tell. [ Martin  Apr 05, 2017 ]
Need to rip 1100 cds onto a server for play remotely on my wifi and through my home theater [ brian  Jan 26, 2017 ]
I've looked an many home grown solutions and I've implemented one called volumio... it works great, but it's an eyesore... This solution is sleek AND I can rip CDs with it as well. Plus my tech support days are now over! I won't have to hear my wife ask, " Honey why won't the music play?" [ Michael  Jan 07, 2017 ]
I picked this item to replace a Sony CD jukebox that stopped working. This is attractive because I can make multiple playlists, and because this can become the anchor of a multiroom music system. [ Bradley  Jun 29, 2016 ]

Unfortunately, it doesn't do DVD-Audio or SACD. It does a great job with CD and HD Tracks [ Lorenzo  Jan 30, 2018 ]
No it does not. [ Vincent  Dec 11, 2017 ]
No, no siriusXM, no Pandora. [ Bradley  Dec 11, 2017 ]
No, the Bluesound Vault 2 does not support Siriusxm. [ Eric  Dec 10, 2017 ]
Nope. [ Jason  Dec 10, 2017 ]
No, it doesn't. It does stream a number of free and subscription Internet services. [ desper-otto  Dec 10, 2017 ]
I don't know. We have not used it yet. [ Albert  Dec 09, 2017 ]
The latest information we have on the Bluesound Vault 2 indicates it does not currently offer compatibility with an Amazon Alexa speaker/device. No. the Vault connects to your home network and can be controlled by the Bluesound Controller app for your compatible devices (smartphone, tablet, PC or Mac) on the same network. [ Ryan  Nov 29, 2017 ]  Staff
The VAULT is not equipped with a wireless card and can only be connected in a wired state, ethernet RJ45. Ref. Bluesound Help Center - General Wifi Setup [ Eric  Jan 09, 2017 ]
The Bluesound only works with a wired Ethernet connection. No WiFi support unfortunately. [ Ronald  Jan 09, 2017 ]
Keep in mind the Vault only has a wired connection which would be cabled to your wireless router. You access the device via a smart phone or tablet app which is your remote control. So the wireless part of the equation only applies to your phone or tablet. It works very well by the way. [ John  Jan 09, 2017 ]
Only supports 2.4 [ Michael  Jan 09, 2017 ]
The Vault requires a hard-wired (RJ-45) connection to your router. It is not a wireless device. Other Bluesound products use wireless connections to stream from the Vault, via your router. [ desper-otto  Jan 08, 2017 ]
i haven't tried to do that yet, as I've just begun to load my collection of over 1000 cd's. I'll let you know if I can figure that out. [ John  Feb 02, 2016 ]

Bluesound offers gapless playback by default for all supported file music types. [ Jeff  Dec 21, 2015 ]  Staff
The answer is yes (we are using the NetGear EX6100 Range Extender [aka wireless bridge]). It took some work to set up (factory resets ...). The Vault2 must be connected via an Ethernet cable with RJ-45 plugs from the Vault2's RJ-45 jack to the EX6100's RJ-45 jack. The Vault2 does not connect wirelessly!!! [ SONDRA S  Nov 04, 2015 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Krissy  Oct 04, 2015 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, the digital audio output on the Bluesound Vault 2 can be connected to a separate DAC of the customer's choosing which can then be connected to an amp/integrated amp of their choice. The Vault does have a 24-bit/192kHz DAC built-in, so make sure the DAC is better or it isn't going to be beneficial. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Sep 29, 2015 ]  Staff
Yes, the hard drive can be replaced, either as a warranty issue or as a service incident when the unit is out of warranty. When the drive is replaced all data is lost. That is why BS is very emphatic about regular backups. Once you have loaded all your CDs you need to backup the drive. You need to match the size of the backup drive to match the 1TB or 2TB size you select. Backups can be done concurrently with using the Vault to play music. [ HENRY L  Jan 13, 2018 ]
I have a Vault2. Hard drive died after about 18 months. Fairly limited use considering what it was designed for. That said, I contacted Bluesound - determined that because the unit was out of warranty - the best they could do was offer me a certified - duly warranted refurbished unit at 50% off the price of a new unit. I took the deal - and have used the hell out of the replacement unit....well over a 1000 cds with no with no issues. Lesson learned - if you buy one - use it - I believe the first one I had was flawed from the star - had I used it harder it would have failed inside the warranty period [ Michael  Jan 13, 2018 ]
I'm not certain, but I'm assuming the answer is yes. The Bluesound software provides a backup utility via the USB port to an external 2TB drive. If replacing a faulty hard-drive is not an option, why provide a backup? I don't believe there's any software on the hard-drive--just your music library. Replacing the hard-drive should be straight-forward, no more difficult that replacing a drive in a PC. [ desper-otto  Jan 13, 2018 ]
Yes. The Bluesound Vault 2 can be accessed by a Sonos system on the same network. I hope that helps. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan  Nov 03, 2017 ]  Staff
I haven't needed to do this BUT some of my ripped files were not added as FLAC and I found an program online that could view the files on the Vault and convert them to FLAC. [ Stephen  Oct 13, 2016 ]
No, it leaves them in their original format [ Paul  Oct 10, 2016 ]
Not sure how it works but did move my itunes library over to the Vault. Best to call Bluesound in Canada for tech support's accurate answer on conversion. [ DANIEL P  Oct 07, 2016 ]
According to Tony W of Bluesound last month: "Bluesound Players play AIFF natively but we do have an issue if being played from an iPhone - we are aware of the issue and have been looking at it for sometime now." Assuming that to be correct, you should be able to map the Vault as a network drive and then simply copy your AIFF files to it. The Vault uses a \Music\[Artist Name]\[Album Name]\Songs storage format. [ desper-otto  Oct 07, 2016 ]
I am running it under Windows 10. I use the BS app to select/play music and to listen to Internet Radio. Settings for the Vault 2 can be accessed from your browser at the Vault 2's IP address. [ desper-otto  Jul 05, 2016 ]
Yes! I have it working on Windows 10. [ PETER A  Jul 05, 2016 ]
Yes. It works with Windows 10. There is a desktop app available, and you can access the storage through Networks on File Explorer. [ Robert  Jul 05, 2016 ]
Yes. You can access your iTunes music library if it is on a computer on the same home network as the Bluesound Vault2. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the product's main webpage. I hope that helps!
