Why did you buy this?

I was looking for an entry level turntable that was not too expensive or overly complicated. I found one! I did not use the installed preamp, I purchased an external from Amazon for $30 and the music reproduction is fantastic!!! The only issue I have come across is that if you walk right next to it while playing it may skip. I intend on correcting this with some vibration dampening materials under both the feet of the USB-1 and the table it is on. All in all this is a good turntable. [ Thomas  May 01, 2017 ]
Great review and the price with discount is just right for my budget. [ Dennis  Mar 06, 2017 ]

Hi, Jamie-- Interesting question. In my own case I put my audio into the computer as I do iTunes, then burn discs for replay on other devices. Maybe you need to process the audio in this manner, then transfer from your computer to your thumb drive. In any case, I'll try that too with my thumb drives! Have fun, Brian in Denver. [ Brian  Sep 11, 2016 ]
No, since it is a USB cable that transfers the recording. [ James  Sep 10, 2016 ]
There are outputs for Phono/RCA out and USB cable out. There is no place to plug in a USB thumb drive. [ Kelsaw  Sep 10, 2016 ]

Yes it's fullly manual, u do have to left tonearm back, also u have to left tonearm and sit it on record hope this helps [ LAWRENCE E  May 05, 2016 ]
Yes, it is fully manual. You physically have to bring the tonearm back. It is an annoyance, but the high quality of the turntable more than makes up for it. [ Brian W.  Apr 29, 2016 ]
100% manual, you have to physically return the tonearm to its holder. The sound it produces makes it worth the extra effort. [ Stan  Apr 28, 2016 ]
Yes. This a manual turntable. [ Allen  Apr 28, 2016 ]

Wish I could answer but I bought this as a gift [ Tom  Feb 23, 2016 ]
Yes with a regular RCA audio cable [ LAWRENCE E  Feb 22, 2016 ]
I assume so, but I hired a professional to integrate the turntable with the rest of my sound system and I really don't know whether he used an aux cable. I can't check because I'm away from the home where it's installed until March 7. However, I can tell you that the turntable works great. No problems with it at all. [ WAYNE  Feb 22, 2016 ]
The turntable also has an ON/THRU switch that lets you choose whether or not to use the built-in pre-amp, depending on your amplifier situation. [ Laura  May 19, 2015 ]
I don't see why not. The NAD has analog inputs, and this table has a built in phono pre-amp so there should be no problem using one of the analog inputs. I did not dig deep enough into the NAD to see if it also had a phono pre-amp so that also may be an option. That said, you are pairing what was a $3K integrated amp with a $250 TT. At a minimum, I would think you would want to upgrade the included phono cartridge to something higher in quality. [ BRIAN  May 10, 2015 ]
Thanks! [ DanG.  Mar 08, 2015 ]
includes a pre-mounted Audio Technica AT3600L phono cartridge it is replaceable! [ MARK S  Mar 08, 2015 ]
Thanks very much! [ DanG.  Mar 07, 2015 ]
It comes with a Audio Technica AT3600L. It is a standard mount cartridge and is replaceable. [ BRIAN  Mar 07, 2015 ]
The cartridge has no Manufacturer name or Part # on it. the whole cartridge assembly detaches from the arm by unscrewing the silver collar and unplugging from the arm. I imagine it is replaceable but you would need to contact Music hall to confirm. [ DR E D M  Mar 07, 2015 ]
I have not. Am using this solely to rip vinyl to mp3. [ John  Nov 07, 2014 ]
That little pre-amp by Teac would go directly to the speakers and the sound would be awesome! If your not blown away they will take it back I'm sure the are a great place to buy from.....good luck ......james [ JAMES M  Nov 05, 2014 ]
I am no Audio expert but there is no preAmp on this model. I connect directly to my computer using the USB lead and play using Window Media Player or record using Audacity software or I can connect to my old Sanyo amplifier and speakers. [ DR E D M  Nov 04, 2014 ]
I was wrong, this turntable does have a switch to go to 220-240 volts. [ Patrick  Oct 13, 2014 ]
No. Nothing on back panel to switch current. [ Patrick  Oct 13, 2014 ]
i have no clue about a NAD usb phono preamp ! [ GUNTHER G  Mar 30, 2014 ]
I'm sure you know the functionality of the Music Hall USB-1; therefore, your equipment (i.e., receiver or computer) will ultimately determine the final sound of any phonograph record. The unit is outstanding and should be paired with a quality system. [ ROBERT T  Mar 14, 2014 ]
Sorry, but I have not used the internal phono preamp, nor the USB output. We have have the table connected via the phono output to an old school stereo receiver that has its own phono input. As such, I can't really comment on how the internal pre would compare to a low cost external preamp. That said, I would not expect a significant difference, but that is just speculation on my part. While the construction of the table is certainly not top of the line, it is suitable for its intended purpose (my daughter's first TT). I would think the weak link would be included cartridge. [ BRIAN  Mar 06, 2014 ]
I can't answer that exact question, but . . . My son has this a college and is using Bose Companion III powered speakers. All I can say is this setup sounds great. For the price, I think this would be the entry point for a quality turntable...other cheaper ones we looked at were not even close to this quality. [ MARK S  Mar 06, 2014 ]
I usually save mine in AIFF when I download music online, which I can import into iTunes without any problem. When I rip CD's for import into iTunes, I save the files using the Apple Lossless protocol. [ SCOTT  Dec 20, 2013 ]
The supplied Audacity software will allow you to save your files in several different formats (including WAV). [ Jeff  Dec 13, 2013 ]  Staff
Thanks you. The tuner USB-1 it funny, I like. [ JOSE D  Dec 14, 2013 ]
Hi Rick, You can format in wave, too. You can use the Nero software or Windows Media Player. Give it a try! [ ROBERT T  Dec 13, 2013 ]
Sorry, I can't answer that. [ BERTRAM F  Dec 11, 2013 ]
The supplied software, Audacity, will allow you to save your files in several different format, and WAV is one of them. When you transfer the audio from the turntable to the PC, it will be in be in .AUP format (proprietary), but you can quickly export it to the format of your choice. [ BILL  Dec 11, 2013 ]
So far the turntable is playing vinyl through a pair of Bose Companion II speakers (sounds GREAT!)...not yet used for converting. In my past experience with an Ion turntable, most conversion software produces a .wav file natively...then converts to MP3. This would be a software issue, so check the manual on the software you are using to see what your options are for conversion. [ MARK S  Dec 11, 2013 ]
Unfortunately, I can't say for sure. The TT is a Christmas gift and has not yet been opened. I did look at the product manual, and it is somewhat ambiguous on the subject. The USB output is specified as 16BIT 44.1KHz or 48KHz USB SELECTABLE. That would imply Wave files, but w/o trying it, I am not certain. I suspect the output is Wave, which can then be converted within Audacity if you wanted to, but I think your best bet may be an email or a call to Music Hall. [ BRIAN  Dec 11, 2013 ]
