Product Research

Overview: The Micro Fi by Celestron is a hand-held digital microscope with built-in Wi-Fi. It has up to 80x magnification, or can be set to infinity focus (1x). The Micro Fi can be used for inspection, forensics, or in the classroom.

Wi-Fi: The Micro Fi has no eyepiece or LCD screen to view the object under the microscope. Instead, the unit sends images via Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to a smartphone or tablet. Using the free Micro Fi application, you can stream live MPEG 4 video up to 3 devices at once with a signal range of up to 30 feet. The Micro Fi app is available from the Apple iTunes App Store for use on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 6 or later. It is also compatible with Android devices running Android version 2.3.3 and up.

Built-in Digital Camera: The Micro Fi has a 0.3MP color 1/4" CMOS image sensor that can take digital still images as well as stream live VGA video at 15 ips. The shutter release is located on the microscope, or can be activated through the app. Still images are saved in the Camera Roll (for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) or the Gallery (Android). Videos are saved to the app, and can be viewed by pressing the Play button on the app.

Micro Fi App: The Micro Fi app must first be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet before you can use the microscope. Once connected to the microscope via Wi-Fi, you can control the unit through the app. Controls include Power, Pause, Play, Snapshot, and Movie Record/Stop. You can also change settings for brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation.

On-board Controls: The unit features numerous controls and settings for use in different situations. In addition to the On/Off button, the Micro Fi has an illuminator adjustment knob to increase or decrease the intensity of the built in white LED illumination ring. With the Snapshot button, you can take a still image of your subject which is captured on the smart device. The large focus dial lets you adjust the focus range from 10mm to infinity.

Tripod Mountable: The Micro Fi can be mounted to a tripod. It has a threaded 1/4"-20 insert for use with a tripod or stand. It can also be wall mounted (using a 3rd-party wall mounting bracket) for use as a surveillance camera (with the lens configuration set at infinity focus).

Power Requirements: The Micro Fi is powered by three "AA" batteries (not included).
