Built-in woofers bring the bass

The MT2 features two tweeters and four midrange drivers across its front panel. Those alone are enough to dramatically improve the sound of any TV. But when you add in the MT2's dual down-firing 5-1/4" woofers and ported enclosure, you get extended bass response necessary to drive home the low frequencies that give movie and TV soundtracks depth and power. You'll hear all kinds of things you never hear through your TV's puny speakers. Eighty watts of built-in amplification and digital signal processing deliver virtual surround sound that's engaging and immersive.

Enjoy wireless music with Bluetooth

Want to listen to music through this system, too? Built-in Bluetooth lets you enjoy wireless music with your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Play songs from your digital library, listen to free Internet radio streams or Pandora, and stream tunes from your favorite subscription service like Spotify® or Beats Music™.

Simple setup

All you need to get the MT2 up and running is a single cable from your TV. There are optical, coaxial, and RCA inputs, so it's compatible with just about any TV. The included remote control even lets you adjust bass and treble response, so you can fine-tune the sound of this powerful speaker system to your satisfaction.

Awesome Sound & Build Quality !!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A tabletop speaker that holds a TV can be the best sound bar you can get - providing that you've a cabinet-based TV and you're using the MaxTV MT2 TV Sound Speaker. The retail price for this reflects the fact that Proficient packed the insides with quality audio components. They definitely do the job.

Pros: Handy EQ reset button on remote Dual 5.25-inch subwoofers Subwoofer grills can be removed for cleaning

Cons: Top surface can be scratched/marred by careless placement of TV LED indicators requiring memorization

Pleasantly surprised with product. Great value, well made, sounds very good.

Buy It!

Bobby B from New York on 1/8/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a projector and a nice surround sound system so I am accustomed to the value sound adds. I put the Max TV MT2 under a 46" Sharp and what a difference it made to the TV / movie watching experience. It sounds great at high and low volumes. I have watched the product for years at the $595 retail price and never bought it because of my other system. Recently I called a friend in the business and asked him to get a price on one and he said it was discontinued but he could get the new on for his cost about $400. I jumped on the $199 deal and am very pleased. Prior to this I bought the Vizio which sounded ok in the store and Santa put it under the tree. After it was opened I said this is just for show I got a better one coming. Buy it you wont be disappointed..

Pros: Great value and sound.

Cons: none other than people complaining about the remote.

Surprising in many ways..

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We were looking for something to enhance the "voices" on movies we watch. We have a PhillipsTV, but as with most the speakers leave something to be desired. I had looked at Bose, and a couple of others, but wasn't finding exactly what I was looking for. Knowing Crutchfield's reputation for customer satisfaction.. I decided to try this unit based on the reviews. I was quite surprised at the size of the unit. It's big, but not too big. It's solid, heavy; and has a minimalist look to it. Sound-wise, it did improve the voices on most of the movies, and the improvement in the sound effects, and enhanced bass response (compared to the built in speakers on the tv) was excellent It's easy to hook up, I used the coaxial digital cable and it works great. The "surround" mode really adds to the "movie" experience but if you're watching regular TV you probably won't use it. I like the Bluetooth connection capability, I'm able to play music from my smart phone, or any other Bluetooth enabled device. It's a real bargain at the price, and it's really improved out enjoyment of the TV in the bedroom. .

Pros: Easy to set up Simple to use Very good sound for the money

Cons: The remote is an issue for most people. . We've not had any issues over having to use an additional remote. We don't have cable or satellite, so we don't have any, "smart" remotes to attempt to sync it with. The remote is indeed small, so be careful of it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I could not get this system to work upon initial setup. Pressing the 'on' button on the remote did not work. Tried both optical digital and RCA connections. Called Crutchfield technical advice and they had no solutions. I finally tried pressing the source button without pressing the on button and it did power up. However, the sound in my opinion was very poor. No clarity and no depth. I decided to return the unit to Crutchfield. Crutchfield handled the return promptly and efficiently.

Pros: Crutchfield return was handled well. No pros on the MT2.

Cons: Did not work upon initial setup, poor sound quality.

Super TV Sound

Uncle Pete from Winchester, Virginia on 1/6/2015

TV via optical input and "I" Pad sound via Bluetooth input both sound great.

Pros: Sturdy, Good size and great sound.

Cons: Indicator light blue or red hard to see with grill on. Remote control has no tactile feed back since buttons are not movable buttons, just pressure sensitive pads. Lack of indicator feedback makes it difficult to see if your input has been recieved except by waiting to hear changes. Volume easy to hear, other functions not so definite.

Great sound for the money!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Proficient Max TV MT2 installed in minutes and greatly enhanced our television experience. Sounds the best at moderate volumes while listening to music and movies. Dialogue can sometimes become muddy at lower volumes. Overall impressed with the unit. Have only used bluetooth once and worked fine.

Pros: Cost effective. Great sound. Fit our area perfectly. Gets loud and stays clear. Easy to install.

Cons: Remote is cheap and small. Lack of control with current TV or Cable remote. Really wish it had a better display.

This unit is easy to install, gives great sound at reasonable cost. Well worth the price.

Pros: ease of install, good sound, compact design capable of acting as a tv stand

Cons: due to the need to set tv to pcm outlet cannot use tv speakers and this unit at the same time, but not a big deal sound wise

Fantastic sound platform!

Deb A. from Charlottesville, Va on 12/26/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this sound platform for our 44 inch Samsung LED which has great picture but poor sound quality. Now the Proficient Max TV MT2 has given great sound for television - movies- music!! Easy to use with Bluetooth iPhone for music- Sounds really great! We are enjoying all media so much more after hooking up the sound platform! We would highly recommend for anyone in the market for a sound bar or sound platform --this product exceeded our expectations.

Pros: Easy set up. Great sound quality- fills the room with sound! Well made and our 44 inch television sits on it very well. Gives our TV the sound it needed.

Cons: A little bulkier than expected. Remote is small - maybe 2 inches x 4 inches.

Great price for super sound!

SUPERB Sound Base

J. Smith. from Freedom, CA on 12/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Proficient Max TV MT2 is an awesome product. i had been shopping around for a long time and finally decided to buy based on the reviews and boy did i make a good choice. the sound base fills my bedroom with nice loud clear music yet the bass is strong without distortion. it is amazing the sound base doesn't have a separate subwoofer and yet it has very nice bass. the home theater mode is perfect even when listening to music. it is definitely a quality item. i will say this item is better than Bose, or any of the cheap sound bars out there. i have Klipsh tower speakers for my home theater and this sound base is almost just as good!

Pros: Price!!! Very Well built, loud, clear with very strong bass

Cons: the remote, unfortunately the remote is very small and so far i have not found a way around it to find a replacement. size, the base is a bit bigger and bulkier than i expected, however it fits perfectly fine on top of my dreser under my 47" bedroom tv.

Sound Bar

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The remote was to Small ,Every time we would change to a different Chanel I would have adjust the sound bar to here the Dialogue to me the Clarity was poor . You never could tell if it was on or off you couldn't see the red or blue light. But for Music it did a good job on sound and great bass .

Pros: Great for music, easy setup

Cons: To Small of a remote, Very poor display unless you take the front cover off .

Good sound but not at low Volume

EMOSE from Boston on 12/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ok - This thing first off is built strong!! It is heavy and looks nice also. I heard demo of Bose Solo 15 at big chain store and thought it was amazing clarity and quality sound and started researching. I did not like that the Bose had bass KNOB on back and cant be set w remote and no b-tooth! Then I saw this and the great reviews and price. As usual awesome Crutchfield buy and had it in 2 days! hooked it up w optical cable included (cheap and short - order your own!) and fired it up. I didnt think having no led display would be a big deal...but I cant even see the single light on this to be able to tell if its getting the command from remote - huge disappointment. there is a slight difference with the simulated surround on and off - I preferred it on at all times even w music. On to sound - it did sound better than tv speakers - what wouldnt? but to get it to sound full and nice you had to really jack up the volume and I did not want that in my apartment as to wake people up - the bass and highs were great - but at low realistic nightime volumes there was none - just a flat low volume. I returned it today since that is when i watch most TV when wife and neighbors are in bed. Also there is no volume limiter so some commercials were blaring loud adn others not so. The Bose Solo sounded great at all volumes but the lack of BT, display, and bass control on remote make that a no - go. Ordered the Pioneer SP-SB03 from here and will get that in a couple days

Pros: Sounds Great at loud levels - plays loud, great bass! Price Sturdy construction and quality build.

Cons: sound great only at loud levels! - at least on regular HD cable shows and movies - did not try blu ray A joke of a single led light you cant see at all from over 10 feet away through the grill. Short flimsy optical cable included

Exceeded my expectations...

JohnW from Virginia on 11/29/2014

I originally was looking at a different brand... and asked my lovely wife to pick up a sound bar while she was out Black Friday shopping. When she stopped by Crutchfield, she saw the Proficient Max TV on sale and gave me a call. I quickly did my research and liked the other reviews, the remote was the only negative. But, I figured the price, it was a steal and I could live with it. After speaking on the phone with an advisor I figured, what the heck, I will give it a try. Once hooked up, my family room sounds great and the remote issue, non-existent because my Dish Network (Hopper) remote downloaded the code and I am able to use one remote. As always, thank you Crutchfield for the recomendation and awesome support!

Pros: Price, sound quality, ease of use... multiple inputs and Bluetooth.

Cons: Perhaps the LED status light could be a bit brighter and a seperate LED when running in surround mode.

Great Soundbar

Fleishacker from Tulsa, OK on 11/18/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price Crutchfield is offering, this soundbar is a superb buy. The bass is an added plus over my previous ZVOX 420, and the bluetooth connectivity keeps my family dancing to our music from our Iphones in our living room (you have to have a dance party every day). Highly recommend for anyone looking at a great deal on a soundbar.

Pros: Quality sound for a soundbar

Cons: Would like a better display so I can see what the volume is

More than a TV speaker

RC from Kaneohe,HI on 11/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'll start off by saying it would be worth the original price. I initially was looking at Zvox, Bose, Speakercraft and Martin Logan. I only heard the Bose products and the Martin Logan. The main reason was to replace the sound coming out from a 60 inch plasma, and something to use when I don't want to turn on my whole system which is the KEF'S 3005. For TV it does it's job and then some. On well recorded programs it sounds great. But in order to show it's strengths and what this glorified TV speaker can do, listen to the Eagles hell freezes over DVD. Great top to bottom cohesiveness, nice tight tuneful bass, solid clear midrange and natural treble. For movies I used the Dark Night Rises. The opening airplane scene, Bane's voice is strong and full as it should be and the chaos after is a wall of sound. Basically like any good speaker, good sound in, good sound out. Part of the great bass and full sound is due to it's size and the two 5.25 inch woofers. I did not play around with the surround modes but I don't think you have to. If you can find a place to put it, get it before it's gone. I'm getting another for my bedroom. Like any good product though, it comes with a crappy remote. Get a logitech and you're set. No it won't replace a surround system, but for what it is and does, there are no complaints. A giveaway at 199.00. I hope this review helped those sitting on the fence. And of course great service from the Crutchfield team.

Pros: A giveaway for the price. Full solid wall of sound. The size is a plus if you cannot fit or have a full 5.1 system setup. Great sound even if only PCM. Comes with an optical cable and ready to setup and go. Just remember what this product is and you will not be disappointed.

Cons: The remote and lack of display feedback. The size if you don't have the space, but it is necessary to get that bass and full bodied sound and output. No HDMI, but for my use, not essential.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, my hearing ability has diminished over the years. This sound bar replaces a Sony that my wife gave me for Christmas last year. The Sony sounded better than the built in speaker system that Phillips provided with their LCD TV. However, the Proficient sounds even better than the Sony at 1/2 the cost!

Pros: Sounds great for this sound deficient person.

Cons: The bass and treble controls do not work as well as I would like.

Great sound for the money!

wjtinatl from Atlanta on 10/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Shopping for a sound bar for my elderly patents, saw this on Crutchfield for $180. Knowing Crutchfield's reputation and return policy, I thought it was worth a try. When it arrived I was impressed by the heft and build quality of the unit and was optimistic. Plugged it in and connected the RCA's, WOW! Very impressed by the sound quality, volume and even bass response despite no sub-woofer. My 81 year old Dad was also impressed and wondered why he'd put up with the lousy sound his Samsung LCD offered. Only down side is the Direct TV remote will not sync with the Proficient, it finds the product and will control, but will not lock in the setting. The remote supplied with the Proficient is a joke; the size of a credit card with tiny buttons, it's destined to get lost in the sofa cushion or disappear in someone's pants pocket by accident.

Pros: Great build quality, awesome sound. A nice looking component.

Cons: Awful remote control, Direct TV Genie remote won't hold the Proficient code setting.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great upgrade for your TV speakers and a very good price sound quality is excellent for the price. Overall good performance. I like that my TV fits perfectly on top, sturdy stand, attractive and I do really like the magnetic grill.

Pros: Great sound at a great price, easy setup.

Cons: No controls on unit, power indicator hard to see behind the bezel, small remote, really small, no surround-sound on indicator, unable to control with the TV remote.

Proficient Max TV MT2

Conrad f from Mount Kisco, N.Y. on 10/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very attractive, the speaker system fit under my TV perfectly . I had some trouble with the hook up due to my not fully understand how the optical set up works. Finally solved the problem with satisfaction that it could hook directly into my cable box and the TV speakers could still be used. I love the magnetic front cover but wish the on off lights were more visible. I am concerned that there are no controls on unit. The small remote could easily be lost or broker - then what? The price makes up for the units short comings.

Pros: Attractiveness, base speaker response, shipping and support.

Cons: remote and lack of controls on unit. no indication of surround sound being on or off

Great addition

Pauie from Blaine, WA on 10/9/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Added this even though I had also just bought a new AV Receiver with 7.2 surround. What an awesome addition to the TV. Makes everything sound great, even shows not produced with surround sound. One of my friends even prefers the surround sound from the MT2 over the sound my new receiver puts out...though to be fair to my Receiver, he is a drummer, and prefers overwhelming bass.

Pros: Makes all television shows, and hockey games sound awesome, even if they haven't been produced in Surround sound. Easy to connect friend's devices via Bluetooth when they come over to party, and want to hear some music they brought on their own device.

Cons: Was hoping to use as a combined replacement for my center channel and subwoofer but is unable to be connected to my AV Receiver for that purpose.

No IR Codes!

lewien from Austin, TX on 10/6/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speaker for the price. And not dealing with wireless subwoofer is nice. But, you cant control the volume with your cable box remote or TV remote. I contacted Crutchfield and Proficient and they both informed me that the speaker does not have IR codes. Proficient is supported by Logitech/Harmony remotes. So I had to make another trip to another retailer to pick up a new remote. It works on my new speaker but my family is now retraining on using the Harmony. The remote also seems to have problems with interference with my IR extender and Samsung TV. :(

Pros: sounds good & easy to install. Great price/performance.

Cons: No IR codes. Remote is SMALL and black. Hard to see and find when you need it. The power LED is hard to see under behind the bezel.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item due to its sale price hoping it would be a little better than the speakers on my tv. Boy was I surprised at the sound this speaker system produced. It definitely brings new life to TV, movies and video games. I'm glad I got it.

Pros: Price, sound, ease of use, build quality

Cons: Remote could be bigger

Great upgrade over TV speakers

Dee from Lakewood, CA on 10/4/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome upgrade to my bedroom TV speakers. The sound is loud and fills the bedroom with bass which most TV speakers can't produce. With Bluetooth capability, it makes a great speaker system for my ITunes. It comes with everything you need to hook up the system, even the optical cables! For the price I paid, it was well worth every penny.

Pros: Great sound, provides ample bass for music, Bluetooth capability.

Cons: No visual feedback on functions

Great Sound, Excellent Value

GaryS from Chevy Chase, MD on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for our master bedroom inside a wall unit and underneath a new 40" Samsung LED. The sound is excellent. Voices are easily heard w/o distortion or constant need to adjust volume. The sound also excels with music of all sorts due to the downward facing subwoofers and overall depth of the box. To me this is the perfect solution if one is not mounting the TV flat on a wall (in which case a sound bar with sub would be more appropriate). Lastly - the dedicated power/amplifier is a great addition as you won't need to hook this into a stereo amplifier, etc. Set up was very simple. Overall I am very pleased and would buy another. Frankly, they should triple the current price. Inexpensive unit with expensive sounding sound!

Pros: Sound, set-up, space saving, cost

Cons: None

Cons: LED light difficult to see. Small Remote that's easy to lose.

not high end

Allan b from Wake forest on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If your looking for a well made, heavy center channel, with poor remote this is it. Sound is ok, nothing like 5.1 or 7.2 or 2.1, if your tv doesn't have adequate sound and can sit on this monster or above, it's ok for 200. The sound is missing midrange big time. My wife likes the clear voice from this unit.

Pros: Made well, inexpensive

Cons: Ok sound quality, not Hi a Fidelity.

Profecient Soundbar

Bob N from Oak Ridge, TN on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not surround sound, but a great improvement over the TV speakers!

Pros: Installation is a breeze, with only power input and a simple signal connection to the TV.. Unit is solid and easily supports any TV. Audio is rich with plenty of punch. A real bargain at this price.

Cons: Remote is small but had no problems with it.

Excellent Proficient Max TV MT2

Jorge F. from Juncos, PR on 10/2/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what I payed I don't think you could find a better sounding soundbar. I got this for less than $200 and It sounds filled out my expectations. It has good bass for a speaker bar and plays fairly loud (still needs more power but most audiophile type consumers would say that about most soundbars) but it sounds great, again it isn't going to blow you away with power but it sure sounds good and plays pretty loud, I agree with some reviews I read on it that it sounds like a good 2 speaker system with a low power receiver and you can have the bass all the way up and it never distorts. The surround feature is nice mainly for movies/sports as it gives it a little bit more sound and a little more power to the sound. The Bluetooth mode is easy and flawless with my IPhone 5. I Highly recommend this product.

Pros: The price, the sound quality, paired with my Bluetooth phone easily, surprising amount of bass and TV sits on top which I like.

Cons: The negative is the small remote and the blue off LED in front is hard to see.

Not just a speaker bar

Dave from Poplar Grove, IL. on 10/2/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome speaker

Pros: Great sound, crystal clear, hard hitting bass. This is perfect for people who don't have or don't want a surround sound stereo. Looks great under the TV. Very sturdy, well built. Price was right. Bought two of them.

Cons: For a speaker of this quality they forgot about the remote. Very small and looks cheap. Also, no on screen display which was disappointing. Speaker would have been worth full price with quality remote and on screen.

Excellent Start for Folks Interested in a Quality One Piece Componant

JD D. from Washington on 10/2/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hey there Music Lovers' and Audiophile Interested Folks! I picked this up on a temporary sale from Crutchfield. Before I bought I compared its price to several other online retailers and read no less than 10 reviews both positive and negatives. Speaker Package(Proficient MT2) arrive about a day after estimated delivery. Began its set-up a couple of days after I received it as I needed an extra pair of strong hand to help me with moving my large LCD TV. The Speaker was very well packed both both the manufacturer and Crutchfield. There wasn't any excessive packing materials. Inside the Manufacturer Packaging the Unit itself wasSurrounded by like 8 pieces of form to fit hard styrofoam, with the Unit having both a foam bag then a plastic bag beneath the hard packing materials. In addition to the Speaker Unit, included inside the Manufacturer Packaging, there was also a large multi language Manual. A Small, Black, Plastic, Infrared, 1.5" x 3.5" Membrane Remote Controller with about a dozen buttons. It requires a Quarter Sized Watch Battery, which was included, just remember to remove the tiny transparent piece of plastic between the battery and the Remote Controll Battery Compartment Contact so its touching and the Remote will work for you. An Optical TOS Cable of lowest quality. Coaxial Audio Cables of average quality, L/R = Red/White, 1.7m in length. Bluetooth In/Out Processing for MP3's+ (BT Headphones). Face Panel has Blue Indicator LED.

Pros: Great Quality Speaker Unit. Hefty, HQ Sound v. Price toward Comparable Models at Sale Price. Sturdy Well Made and Sized Cabinet, capable of Supporting some Large Flat Panels. Very Attractive Design. Just good enough to Support Future Quality Component Addendum's such has a Denon, Cambridge, HK, Etcetera Home Audio Receiver/DAC. Multiple Input Methods which may be creatively used for multiple or cross system input. Bluetooth is an Excellent Feature(That could have been better with USB 2.0/3.0)

Cons: No Pass through Outputs. No LCD Unit on Cabinet. Horrendous remote (Made for Teeny, Tiny, Puzzle Box Makers, Scrimshaw Carvers, and Children up to Age Ten. Strongly Recommend The Uber Logitech for Anything and Everything Remote Control System, though its unfortunately really expensive.) Very poor quality included accessories compared to quality of Cabinet and Speakers'. No HDMI v1.4a or 2.0. No internal Smart Switching, which is a really nice feature on models that have MIMO for both Audio+Video

Overall I really like it but I think the remote is difficult to read unless the room is brightly lighted. Can't program into the Direct TV remote due to unlisted brand in DTV system. However it seems like a very good value compared to others.

Excellent System

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, very pleased with the sound of this system. Only issues are those already raised by past reviewers - small remote that is not very 'potent' to use from any substantial distance. Well made, easy to sync with Bluetooth on my iPhone and I would definitely buy again.

Pros: Excellent sound - surround is pretty amazing for being synthetic.

Cons: Small remote and difficult to read LED light on front of unit.

great system at the sale price. Terrific bass and language is clear during movie scenes, tv speakers do not come close to matching this sound system. if it lasts, it is a remarkable bargain.

Pros: easy set up,volume and mute works within dish remote, terrific sound has its own treble and bass adjustments

Cons: doesn't turn off with dish remote, thats it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was surprised by how this good this sound at performed . About average size, sturdy construction with very good sound, bass sound solid not boomy, improved by placing in a corner. The higher frequency is clean and not harsh and became more alive when the surround button is activated. I use this speaker more for music than viewing tv. Very impressed with the magnetic removable grill which snaps back to its place with the powerful magnet. This is the first of a kind I had . No vibration. It also look pretty on top in front of the speaker when removed and displaying the drivers and tweeter and the led ,it's neat. The red and the blue light becomes more visible which guide the adjustment from the remote. Just count the number of click with the number of blue blinks from the bottom to the top and set my preference , 2 blinks below maximum for the bass and 0 for treble is my choice, but again I hear the treble when surround is chosen. Bluetooth is included which is nice. This speaker sound solid and great that it took me only 2-3 weeks to get my second Proficient Max TV MT2. Also good for background music while dining. My friends like the sound so much that we use it many times practicing our ballroom dancing. Looking forward for years of enjoyment. Buy a 3rd one ? If my wife permits.

Pros: Good, clean sound, easy set up,bluetooth, magnetic grill easy to detach and snaps back to place solid. So simple but had the things you need.

Cons: None

Great soundbar for the price

David from Champaign,il on 9/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this soundbar is a steal for what I paid $179, it plays fairly loud for a soundbar and it sounds great. I was already convinced that for $179 it wouldn't sound good or not play very loud and since crutchfield has a good return policyI gave it a shot and ordered it and was shocked by how good and loud it played tv audio for the price. I don't think anyone would be disappointed by this soundbar. I consider myself a semi audiophile and have a 5.1 system in another room and for most tv viewing I like this better than my 5.1 (I always seem to be making receiver adjustments when watching tv with a 5.1..either to much bass not enough bass raising center channel volume..lowering it etc) dialogue sounds great and it can play pretty loud. The surround option is nice for action movies and live sports and it increases the volume a lil bit as well. The remote isn't great but not many soundbars have a good remote which I will never understand. I only hope it doesn't break down as there are not many reviews on this unit to know if people have had problems with it.

Pros: Full sound , treble and bass controls, plays loud and clear, looks good, good bass

Cons: not much visual feedback remote is cheap

Best Sound bar Under $200

Dunamis from hHawaii on 9/10/2014

This is an awesome sounding sound bar with only a couple of flaws. The remote is not great and there's no visual feedback on inputs. If you can get past these minor issues, you'll be very pleased. Setup was easy and straightforward. This replaced a Zvox 420, I like the sound from the Proficient much better.

Pros: Great Sound & Great Price

Cons: Remote & No Visuals

Better sound than the TV speakers

Uncle Lee from Troy, AL on 9/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A fairly heavy speaker system that is designed to fit under your TV stand. The increase in the bass from the subwoofers is noticable. Overall sound quality is very good.

Pros: Sturdy construction to support weight of TV. Improves bass response and permits greater volume without distortion.

Cons: Remote control is too small unless you are a texting expert. The off-on led hidded behind the speaker grill is difficult to see. If you have a TV with a large stand that will not fit on top of the speaker system, then the speaker system must be mounted on a shelf below the TV.

Great sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield was awesome to deal with, great price. Same product as speakercraft cs3 but $100 less.

Pros: Easy setup, sturdy construction

Cons: Included remote is lame, led is hard to see through grill so you don't get feedback when switching settings, functions, etc...

Great product

Arun from Westmont, IL on 8/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought it for $200, can't find a better product for that price. I wanted to get the speaker craft cs3, after reading through both the manuals, I didn't see any difference and the max tv is $100 cheaper. I'm not an audiophile, but I'm very satisfied with the audio quality and it's very easy to setup.

Pros: Great sound for both movies and music. Bluetooth connectivity. Looks great and sits neatly below the TV. Great bass for a pedestal system. Very easy setup. Great price.

Cons: No visual feedback for audio settings. Cheap feeling and unintuitive remote control.

Get better sound for your flat screens "flat" speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Tired of listening to poor sound with a tv that gives a great picture? I was, so I added the Proficient Max TV MV2 under my 40 inch Samsung LED. The speakers on the tv are small and rear mounted so the sound is reflected off the wall behind. It left it without feeling and frankly flat and boring. When I added the Proficient unit, install was very easy, it even came with all the cables including digital audio which is the way I went. The sound was now directed at me and no longer flat. The 2 small subs added some feeling. The "surround" mode does very little for close viewing, but is better at say 8 or 10 feet away. Don't expect it to blow your hair back or replace your surround system. I would say the construction is great. It weighs more than other similar units, but thats because it hold up to 160lbs! It's very sturdy. The magnet front grill comes off very easy and even looks great with or without it. The remote is small, but really there isn't much that needs to be on it. Not to mention, depending on the remotes you use, you can program your main remote to operate the system. I have directv and the higher end remote can be used with this system. I gave it 5 stars due to the sale price at crutchfield, but at the original cost of close it would have been seriously over priced and received only a 4 star in that case.

Pros: Sounds and looks good. Very sturdy. Easy installation. Comes with all cables.

Cons: Way over priced if not on sale. Remote MIGHT be considered fragile and easy to lose.

Tabletop TV Speaker System: The Proficient MaxTV MT2 is a one-piece tabletop TV speaker system which delvers high quality audio from your analog or digital connected flat-panel TV and Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. At only 4.0625" tall, the MaxTV MT2 slips easily under your flat-panel television. Your television's pedestal base should be no more than 28" (w) x 15.5625" (d) and weigh no more than 160 lbs.

Stereo & Simulated Surround: The MaxTV MT2 provides full stereo sound for music soundtracks. The MaxTV MT2 uses advanced digital signal processing (DSP) to create simulated surround sound that enhances your listening experience by creating a wide enveloping soundstage; perfect for movies, TV shows, games, and sports.

Active 3-Way Speaker System: Proficient's MaxTV MT2 employs two 1" silk dome tweeters, four 2.5" treated-paper midrange drivers, and two down-firing 5.25" treated-paper subwoofers. These multiple drivers are driven by four 20-watt RMS digital amplifiers set up in a two-channel, bi-amplified configuration for 80-watts RMS of total system power. This active 3-way speaker system delivers powerful bass, detailed mids, and clear highs.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The MaxTV MT2 tabletop speaker system features a bass-reflex enclosure with dual rear-firing and dual front-firing ports for greater efficiency and bigger bass.

Analog + Digital Inputs: The Proficient MaxTV MT2 is fitted with both analog and digital inputs to connect your external AV components. There is one optical (toslink) and one coaxial (RCA) digital input to connect up to two digital audio sources, such as your flat-panel HDTV and Blu-ray player. The digital inputs will accept PCM (2ch) only. There is also one analog stereo RCA input for connecting an external audio device or TV without a digital output.

Note: The soundbar speaker's digital inputs do not support a Dolby Digital/DTS audio signal.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Built-in Bluetooth lets you wirelessly connect a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer, so you can enjoy your music collection or Internet radio through the MaxTV MT2 speaker system. Music navigation and song/artist information will still be done from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device. Pairing is done without the need to enter a pin-code.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the tabletop speaker system.

Remote Control: The MaxTV MT2 includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the tabletop TV speaker system.

Bass & Treble Control: You can adjust the soundbar speaker's bass (100Hz) & treble (10kHz) level in order to increase or decrease low and high frequency output.

Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I'm afraid not. The remote that comes with the MaxTV MT2 must be used for control over that unit. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Dec 05, 2014 ]  Staff
Mike, the answer to your question is no. This unit only has optical and coaxial digital audio inputs (accepts 2-channel PCM only, no Dolby decoding) so if you can't set your TV audio to output PCM audio you can't use the optical hook-up. analog stereo RCA inputs would be the final option for hook up. This is not what your looking for! Hope you find the right one...Good Luck. [ Michael  Nov 04, 2014 ]
Sorry, actually it won't mix anything down. No decoding on board. PCM stereo via digital, or analog stereo with RCA jacks. [ Paul  Nov 03, 2014 ]
There is not a way to hook it up as 3 discrete channels. Even if you output a 3 channel signal from your receiver into the soundplate via digital, it will mix it down internally to L and R channels. [ Paul  Nov 03, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The owner's manual for the product states that the AC connection is a universal power connection that will automatically switch AC voltage from 100-240VAC. Even so, we cannot guarantee that the product will work as smoothly as it would normally work since it was designed with US standards in mind. There may still be compatibility issues with foreign power/voltage standards. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. David, I returned the MT2 for kind of the same reason. The remote is very cheap and minimally functional. I couldn't get it to connect with my Cox cable remote or my TV remote. I was told it will connect to a Logitec Harmony but I don't want to spend $100 on a new remote. Additionally, there are no controls on the speaker itself, only a power switch. If you lose the remote, you can't do anything. I also have a Klipsch speaker, around $500 from Crutchfield and that is awesome and worth the money. Good luck [ Barry  Sep 15, 2014 ]
It wasn't me. The unit is really nice, though. [ MARK  Sep 15, 2014 ]
