Our take on the B&O PLAY Beoplay Form 2i by Bang & Olufsen

Lots of headphones can claim to be works of art. But few can back it up like the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Form 2i. These headphones are on permanent display in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. That says more about the cool, sleek design of these headphones than I could. I'm better off describing the clear, detailed sound these headphones offer. The driver enclosures employ a semi-open design, which offers spacious sound that's much bigger than you'd expect from such compact headphones. Highs are crisp and clean, midrange and vocals are up-front and warm, and the tight bass is never over-accentuated. The combination of sound, style, and comfort makes the Form 2i headphones a great bargain.

B&O Beoplay 2i On-ear Headphones

Ed S from Arizona on 9/27/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the B&O Headphones to listen to my iPod classic while traveling on the plane. Prior to using them on the plane, the sound quality was excellent. The light weight was just what I was looking for in a pair of headphones. However, once on the plane I realized there was still a lot of plane background noise from the engine which was lessened but not completely eliminated..I had to adjust the volume to help compensate. If you are purchasing headphones for air travel you should buy a noise reduction product. Otherwise, the B&O headphones are quite adequate for quality listening.

Pros: Light weight, stylish, very good sound quality from an iPod.

Cons: Very poor background noise reduction during plane travel.

Features

Overview: The Bang & Olufsen (B&O) Form 2i is a sleek, lightweight on-ear headphone with high-performance sound. The original Form 2 was designed by Steve McGugan in 1983, and gained instant critical success in 1985 when it hit the streets. In 1992, the Form 2 became a part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. This 21st-century update by B&O Play features an in-line remote and microphone that is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Design: The B&O Play Form 2i weighs only 3 ounces, and is comfortable to wear for hours. The dynamic, semi-open design delivers a well-defined soundstage with accurate highs, a focused middle, and good, solid bass that's not over-emphasized. You'll hear your music the way the artists intended it.

Cable: The Form 2i has a 46" cord that attaches on 2 sides, and terminates into a 3.5mm plug. On the left side is an in-line 3-button remote and microphone. The controls are compatible with Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The outer buttons control Volume Up and Volume Down. The center button controls various music playback and phone call commands.

Product reviews from the Crutchfield Labs

Very likely my favorite sub-$150 headphones.

First impression? These compact headphones sound much larger than they are. For me, though, how long I can stand to wear a pair of on-ear or over-the-ear headphones is as important as their sound quality.

The Form 2i's were a clear standout for me on both counts. They are really light-weight, and don't squeeze my head at all. I found they worked best when I was just sitting around listening to music. They tended to move around a lot when I tried to use them while active.

As for sound, they remind me a lot of the Grado SR80E. They're very airy and neutral, and their bass response is accurate and effortless. One advantage they offer over the Grados: if you're in an office, others can't hear your music like they can with the open back design of the Grado.

Why did you buy this?

B & O is a leading high end audio equipment brand. I have other B & O products brought from Europe in my audio home setup. Top notch. [ Christopher  Jan 06, 2016 ]

1 question already asked

My pair of these head phones slide as well if I'm active when I use them, and they have no adjustment to make them tighter. And yes they are somewhat far from the ear, but that benefits me because I wear them at work and need to be able to hear what's going on around me. Other than the sliding, I think these headphones are comfortable and sound good. [ Tim  Mar 06, 2016 ]
I have the same problem they slide off my head. They are better for use if you are sitting or on plane. [ Mark  Mar 06, 2016 ]
The headphones are adjustable so I don't have trouble keeping them on my head. The only complaint I have of them is that I was hoping for a little better noise cancellation on airplanes. Other than that the sound quality is very good..hope this helps. [ Edward  Mar 05, 2016 ]
