Overview

Our take on the B&O PLAY Beoplay H5 by Bang & Olufsen

When I think of wireless earbuds, words like "convenient" or "nifty" come to mind, but I don't always think "luxury." Leave it to Bang & Olufsen to change that. The boutique Danish audio company's Beoplay H5 wireless headphones have a high-end feel and an understated style. Rubberized earpieces ensure the H5 'phones are durable enough for exercise, and a tasteful touch of aluminum makes them suitable for wearing out. They fit securely yet delicately in-ear, while your music or podcasts play wirelessly via Bluetooth — no cord from your phone to cause hassle.

Premium in-ear headphones with the freedom of Bluetooth®

BeoPlay H5 wireless headphones

The durable, comfortable Beoplay H5 wireless headphones give you convenient on-the-go listening — and look good doing it.

Helpful iOS® app and user-friendly features

Large dynamic earbud drivers deliver smooth sound. Apple® users can make tonal adjustments based on mood or genre with a free downloadable app for iPhone® or Apple Watch. And when you're done listening, snap the two earpieces together using their built-in magnets. The music will automatically stop, and you can wear them around your neck until you're ready to listen again.

Comfortable, custom fit

From the gym, to the train, to your desk at work, the Beoplay H5s fit in anywhere, thanks to their light, compact in-ear design. And the included ear tips ensure they stay comfortable. There's a selection of seven pairs, so you can find ones that match your ears well. There are four sizes of silicone tips and three sizes of Comply™ memory foam tips.

BeoPlay H5 wireless earphones

Music plays wirelessly from your phone via Bluetooth, and the Beoplay app for Apple gives you control over the sound.

I'm a big fan of Comply foam tips — they're my personal favorite — because they fit snug but feel light and unobtrusive. The Comply "Sports" tips included here are extra-breathable and have a special membrane to keep moisture away from the earbuds' internal circuitry.

Rugged cord with remote for taking phone calls

Take a close look at the Beoplay H5 photos. You'll notice B&O didn't use a run-of-the-mill cable to connect the two earpieces. That cable is covered with a soft, braided textile and is dust- and sweat-proof like the earpieces.

Even the inline remote is durable.  It features a built-in mic so you can answer calls without reaching for your phone. You can also skip songs or play and pause music.

B&O has set the bar with their products, which I own many. The H5 has crisp clear sound with bass response spot on. Couldn't be happier with my purchase and Crutchfield products. They far exceed the Apple earbuds that came with my iPhone 7 plus.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound is good but experiencing the same issues others are having with the headphones staying in my ears which are primarily used for working out. I have tried all the different tip combinations. I am contemplating returning them at this time.

Pros:

Cons:

Poor design

Patrick from New Rochelle, NY on 8/2/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Do not buy this product until the cord problem is fix! This is a poor design that did not go through a thorough R&D.

Pros: Good Sound

Cons: Earphone keeps coming out of the ear. Not because of the fitting or the earphone itself but because of the cord. The cord is short and whenever you look to the side (left/right) the cord get stuck on the back of your neck and the earphone is pulled out. The mic is also heavy and it pulls the cord on the left side. This is a poor design that did not go through a thorough R&D.

Decent sound but doesn't fit my ear very well.

Bryant from California on 4/20/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works good. Took a couple of tries to pair with my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. The sound is good. Nice highs. Good mids. Little bass. Don't want to turn them up to very high volume because I don't want to blow them (already blew a couple pairs of headphones). Doesn't cut in and out like other bluetooth headphones. The major problems are that the volume does not go up very high if you are listening without going above the red line and they don't stay in my ear. Only one pair of eartips work and even they work only ok. Also battery life could be longer at only 5 hours.

Pros: Decent sound. Bang and Olufsen name. Looks good.

Cons: Only one pair of eartips even come close to fitting my ear. Battery life. Volume.

If it does not fit, you must return it

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

On paper, these seemed like exactly what I was looking for. When I got them, I was impressed with the build quality, the magnetic Off feature, everything that I could tell when I opened the box. One problem. They do not even come close to fitting in any way shape or form no matter what I tried or did with the exception of going see a plastic surgeon to have my ears modified to fit these earbuds. My ears are average, with no deformities or anything. I am not a Vulcan or any other alien species. I tried all the sizes of ear pieces they came with and nothing even came close. It was like trying to thread a needle with a half inch nylon rope. So, I have no idea about sound or anything else as they simply didn't even come remotely close to at least sitting in my ear, not even loosely. I read about buying aftermarket ear pieces to make them fit. At this price, they should come with everything to enable at least a basic fit for functionality. I was not asking for a custom fit. Crutchfield was great about letting me exchange them for Bose Pulse which I found to be perfect.

Pros: Looks like good materials, magnetic Off seems like a cool function

Cons: Didn't even come close to fitting or at least resting in or on my ears. Completely useless.

Great pair of earphones

Ron from Glenside, PA on 9/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I have been waiting for bang and olufsen to have these in stock and on a whim I checked Crutchfield and they had them in stock at the same price. Had them the next day. Now for the earphones... They are a great design, don't fall out when I work out and the magnets stay connected when I have them around my neck when I am not listening to them. When I am listening the B&O play app is an elegant way to fine tune the overall listening experience with spot on representation across a wide range. This is the best money I have spent on earphones ever!

Pros: Size, lightweight, rich sound

Cons: Have to take the charger with you if you travel.

Museum quality, not commuter quality

Bill R from Chicago, IL on 9/3/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently started commuting and was looking for exceptional, Bluetooth ear buds. I have owned several other different kinds. Bang&Olufsen seemed like the step up. I was sold on the magnetic on-off and recharging base. These were game changing features. Pairing is simple, the sound quality is excellent and the never "sputter" like other BT devices. The problem is, I have to move my head from time to time. These won't stay put. With all the brands above, I'm a medium ear. All come with several size buds. The medium B&O foam buds fell right out. Yes, I know you need to roll these out before inserting. The smallest buds aren't much better. Tie this in with the rigid cord that gets caught in my collar and you'll be walking the streets with the stiffness of a mannequin. You don't dare use the cord controls, because you'll be yanking these out. My option is using my AppleWatch to control tracks and volume. Then, there are the childlike instructions. In the package are these B&O branded disks. What the heck are they for and no mention in the cartoon instructions. Bottom line. These look great in a museum. The most practical use of these are practicing for taking the witness stand in an injury lawsuit against the public trasnit system. These will help you maintain that look of being in a neck brace as you turn left and right to cross the street.

Pros: Innovative design

Cons: Clumsy to wear while active

Good but not great

Donald from Atlanta, GA on 8/25/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Definitely a quality built product as you would/should come to expect from B&O but as this product relates to being a wireless part of your exercise equipment it falls mighty short on one main point. Which is the way the volume adjustment hangs down on the left side of your ear bud being just heavy enough to continually pull the right ear bud out of your ear during workouts. This is the primary reason one buys a set of ear buds marketed as an exercise compatible that being they remain planted in your ears during hard workouts. After attempting use of these buds for a couple weeks I was compelled to call on Crutchfields outstanding customer service and have them process a return for me.

Pros: Quality construction and great B&O sound

Cons: Lopped side cord design which pulls the right ear bud constantly out of your ear.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first pair of premium headphones, so discount my experience as you will. In short, the sound is simply amazing. Most of the songs on my Pandora rotation sound like I'm hearing them for the first time. Getting the right tip for your ear will take some messing around to get the right fit, but once you do, they just kind of disappear. The phone function works great. No one has any issues hearing me. They are advertised as having a 5 hour battery and I'd say that is fairly accurate.

Pros: sound quality build quality

Cons: wish battery lasted entire work day

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To start with I have owned many sets of Bluetooth headphones but never any that sounds as good as the h5 "s best bass I ever heard for in ear phones

Pros: Very well build Very cool turn off just touch ear pcs together and white led fades off And they sound great High cost but worth it

Cons: Only thing I needed a different size in the ear -pc rubber They include 5 sets of rubber and 5 sets of other ones But keep falling out of my ears I would still buy them again because of great sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product, as all B&O products, combines elegance among with technology in 1 package. This makes buying B&O products have a premium added to them for these benefits. The products sounds very good a sin my experience has a substantial battery life. Well made and worth the price.

Pros: Great construction along with the dust and water resistant features built in. This item is designed to look good and perform very well. When you hold the item you will notice that it doesn't feel cheap.

Cons: Only 2 year warranty, no way of replacing the cord if damaged. Doesn't provide a shorter charging cord.

Some pros and cons

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Enjoying the sound quality. App makes for easy adjustment depending on listening material.

Pros: These sound very good and are great for hot weather and workouts. The App makes for some easy adjustments. The magnet clip is nice way to keep them around you neck and turn them off.

Cons: Pick up some noise from cloth on cord so you need to use clip to get it up off your clothes. Also, have not found an ease way to switch between multiple Bluetooth devices. Not crazy about special charging block.

Fantastic sounding ear buds! Not very good for activities that require a lot of movement cause they don't seem to stay in your ears too good. However, when sitting and relaxing they are fantastic.
