Celerity Technology HDMI cables

How it works

Celerity cables work by converting electrical HDMI data into optical signals inside the fiber optic HDMI connectors. Precision embedded technology sends light signals carrying the HDMI data stream from your source component through the fiber optic cable to your TV or projector, where it's converted back to an electrical HDMI connection. Since the cable is fiber optic, there's no signal loss, even over long runs, and it's impervious to interference from appliances, wireless devices, computers, or other noisy electronic equipment. Your audio/video content will arrive at its destination looking and sounding as good as when it started.

Easy two-step installation

Celerity HDMI cables are installed using a simple two-step process. First, pre-wire your setup by running the cable from your source component to your display. Each cable features a separate transmitter and receiver end conveniently pre-terminated with tiny, fiber optic plugs that make it easier to pull. Unlike thick HDMI cables, Celerity cables are thin and flexible so you can easily run them along baseboards, and install them in concealed locations, conduit, plenum spaces, and cabling raceways.

Step two: simply attach the included Celerity HDMI connectors to the cable's fiber optic plugs and hook them up to the sending and receiving A/V components at either end. The cable's transmitter electronics are powered by current drawn from your source component via its HDMI jack's "hot plug." Power at the display end of the cable is supplied by the included USB cable and the USB port on your display device. Handy blue LED power indicators on both connectors light up to verify that your components are powered up and ready to play.

Had to run a 4K signal from receiver to projector 35' run. Tried very highly rated cables and neither would carry the signal reliably. These Work great. Cheaper cables are fine for 1080 signal but if you're sending 4K for a lengthy run, this is your cable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a 60 foot run for an HDMI cable and understood that there would be some signal loss if I went with copper. The celerity cable works incredibly well. I immediately noticed a sustantial increase in color saturation and sharpness on my old 11 year old Sony 1080p LED TV which I tested this cable on before installing a new 4K LG OLED. The detail and color to my 4K tv is stunning while viewing Netflix's 4K shows through the lastest model Apple TV. I also believe this cable is somewhat responsible for better sound to my Yamaha sound bar that is optically hooked up to LG TV. Only difficulty was the cable intermitantly would not transmit if I used a USB port on the back of the Sony to power the recieving end of the cable as recommended in the instructions. I resolved this by plugging the cable directly into a 5v 1A usb charger.

Pros: Stunning picture and color light weight and easy to run

Cons: optical cabling can be delicate

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the best way I could find to get all the different communication streams (HDMI-CEC,ARC, 4K HDR, etc) to work over a 35ft distance. Unfortunately I had to buy a 2nd one as the first had the fiber jacket rubbed off due to being pulled through the wall. I would recommend finding a different cable with a tougher jacket than this one but I expect these are all pretty much the same. For the cost I wouldn't have expected it to rub through this easily.

Pros: Carries all the com protocols I need

Cons: cable jacket too delicate. Rubs through easily. Must be extremely gentle

Excellent signal

Adam from Youngsville, NC on 1/28/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cable worked perfectly, especially after I read the directions. My HDMI signal instantly reaches the projector, as opposed to my former cable where connecting at 50 feet was a constant problem. A word of caution - don't shoot a staple through the center of the fiber optic cable. It was a $395 lesson for me.

Pros: Easy installation, fast signal

Cons: The cable is fragile

PRO: Very thin-low profile cable. It is fiber optic so HANDLE WITH CARE! Easy to run; not bulky. CON: CRAZY EXPENSIVE!!! This is the reason I rate it 4 stars. Also needs to be powered. Not sure why as compared to standard HDMI. My TVs do not have USB ports so I have to use a separate USB power supply.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This cable is great. So easy to put in the ceiling to trace to my projector. I'm planning to upgrade to a native 4K projector that will need an 18 GBps connection. When I acquire that projector, I may revisit this review to say how it works with that demand. So far, though, with my 1080p projector it's working flawlessly. If it lives up to the higher data rate demand, I'll update this review to 5 stars.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Lifesaver here. Eight years ago a guy installed an outdoor tv for me but used 1" conduit with structure cable. Long story short I needed to replace the 30 foot run. It was hard to find replacement cables but when I did it was impossible to pull the new cable through the numerous 90 degree turns under my now mature paver patio. I can't tell you how frustrating this became, why didn't he use 1 1/2" or 2" pipe? GRRRRRRRRRRRR.... visions of having to dig up my patio haunted me for days until I found this product. Easy breezy install and a perfect picture soon followed. I am one happy camper now, this stuff is expensive but so darn worth it to me!

Pros: So thin and flexible it's a breeze to pull and the end result is outstanding signal delivery!

Cons: A bit pricey but well worth it to me and my particular situation

I am using the 40 ft length from a Sony X800 UHD player to an Epson 5040UB. I am getting the 4k signal with HDR with no issues. The big plus is how thin and pliable it is.

Pros: Full 4k signal

Cons: None thus far.

Celerity Technologies Detachable Fiber Optic HDMI Cable

Joseph from Huntington, NY on 4/2/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a very long run between my projector and my receiver. The Fiber Optic cable was a great match for my needs. When testing the Celerity product with a HDMI cable, I felt the quality of the picture on my projector was better. Easy to work with, but be careful, the cable is very thin and if you are installing through existing Sheetrock, make sure that it is the last thing you put in, or at least away from additional cuts you will make in the wall. I had the missfortune of cutting the cable and needed to buy a 2nd cable, OUCH!

Pros: Easy to work with

Cons: Very particular on how things need to be powered up in order for the cable to send a signal to my projector. For instance, I need to leave the HDMI cable attachment out of the projector until the projector and receiver on turned on. Only after that, can I attach the HDMI cable attachment.

4K ready and Easy install!

Brian from Rifle, CO on 3/2/2017

I purchased a 200' cable for the 175' run I had. The cable is very robust but the ends need to be treated as fragile. Once installed.....the performance was exceptional! The picture and audio quality was bar none the best I have ever seen or heard for a run this long! This is the ONLY solution for those that want a quality picture and perfect audio. I have used the CAT 7 solution and it seemed to be decent enough but this fiber optics is small in diameter and if installed properly....will give many years of service. I have installed on new builds with ease since walls are only framed in. On upgrades to a home already built....I make the effort to run this stuff in the walls and such. If it must be on the floor....put it in corners where the foot traffic is almost nonexistent. If put under carpet where there is foot traffic....the cable could get "pushed and rolled" around under the carpet enough that you could sever the fiber optic cable.

Pros: Perfect audio and video

Cons: A little pricey...but...well worth it

I installed this cable in April 2015. I chose it to be able to run under carpet from my entertainment center to my TV. The cable quit working. I tried replacing the ends but that didn't help. I called Celerity and they offered me a discount. To me a cable at this price should last more than 18 months. Don't waste your money

Works great when it works

jeremy from CA on 2/18/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got the 35' length to get from receiver to tv and it seemed to work good at first. then i noticed that using arc it was having little cut outs. it got worse and worse and i realized that if i put pressure on the somewhat loose-fitting hdmi adapter at the tv it would work. so i jammed a piece of crumpled up paper between the plug and the back of the tv and it was fine. I didnt think this was acceptable for an expensive cable so I called Crutchfield who immediately sent out a replacement adapter. Luckily they sent the whole kit including the adapters because after replacing the adapters, the cable stopped working. Confirmed this by switching between new and old cable and the problem came and went. So I had to pull the new cable through, and pull out the old to send back. I decided to use the original plugs as this is how I had tested it and it worked, with the paper jammed in by the receiving plug. I didn't want to plug in and unplug these things any more than necessary as I didn't know if this was the cause of my problem. So I am up and running, but it has been a very large hassle and I have zero confidence that the new cable will last longer than the few months and maybe 10 times we had used the original one. Additionally it looks like this is a fiberoptic cable. That sounds very fragile to me, but I found no notes on how to handle it. I treated it like it was glass but some handling and mounting notes would be great.

Pros: Works great.

Cons: seems to be fragile and then stops working great.

Long Run HDMI...... This Is It! Excellent!

Lars from Denver, CO on 1/23/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bottom Line, this works extremely well! Very easy to run in walls. I replaced my old 35' (Thick) HDMI cable in my walls with this very slim and easy to run alternative. Over time, my old HDMI cable connections degraded from bending stress thus causing poor picture and causing my AppleTV to stop working all together. I needed an alternative and found this at Crutchfield! Now hooked up with a 35' run and all of my equipment is working flawlessly. TV picture on my 4K Samsung is the BEST it has ever been. Deep Color, Perfect Blacks, No Video Noise at all! Very Happy! If you need a long run from your Source to your TV, this is it! Don't even attempt standard Premium HDMI. Especially for 4K signal. Also, this cable is forward compatible so If a new plug standard come about in the future, all you need to do is put new plugs on the ends of this fiber optics cable! That's it! No running a new cable! One word of caution or clarification. This fiber optics cable is powered and requires USB power at the receiver (TV). DO NOT rely on the USB Outlets on the TV. I tried but when I turned on the TV, there was no HDMI signal. I used a spare Apple iPhone charging block (5 Volt/1Amp) and plugged it into the electrical outlet behind the TV and all works perfectly now. Not sure what the issue is with the Samsung USB's but they do not work. Save yourself any headaches and plug directly into the wall. You will be happy! Trust me! Thanks to the Crutchfield Folks (As Always)!

Pros: Perfect Picture (WOW), Easy to run in walls or replace existing HDMI cable, Forward Compatible, Very small diameter!

Cons: Maybe Price but you do get what you pay for here! Worth it for long runs where standard HDMI cable simply will not work!

Only watched 2 movies so far and some TV. Both movies were 4K UHD and worked without a glitch. Fingers crossed. Very easy to install and so thin it does not put any strain on your HDMI inputs/outputs. Costly but it was the only one that worked so far. I could not run less then 26 feet.

Perfect Picture between Marantz Receiver and Benq HT3050 Projector

Wayne from Easley, SC on 1/4/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just finished installing inside existing wall. It was harder fishing the pull cable in than pulling this cable through after. Picture is perfect on our projector. Word to the wise though. Make sure the little blue light is shining on both ends of the cable. I spend 3 hrs going through Receiver and Blue Ray player's User Manuals trying to figure out why we had no picture. Only after my 9 yr old asked why i didn't plug the loose USB cable into the projector power aux did it "suddenly" start working, (Duh on my part :)

Pros: Removable HDMI plugs mean small holes to drill.

Cons: Requires power at both ends. Would be an issue if my Projector didn't have a USB Supply outlet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The new tv is to far from the AVR to use regular HDMI. I bought this as a fix. It works perfect. I ran it through the wall and through the floor crawl space ...the up through the wall to the AVR. The only hitch in the install was that the front of the instruction sheet instructed the "T" (transmitter) USB plug-in to be used as an option. It did not work UNTIL I plugged the "T" USB in...then it worked perfectly and instantly. LOSSLESS!!! I love it!

Pros: Works Great Tough for in wall install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've bought a lot from Crutchfield over the years and don't normally take the time to review products but absolutely had to on this one. This HDMI cable was used to replace an in wall HDMI cable in an addition that somehow was bad and so the picture kept clipping. I ordered this fiber optic HDMI to run behind my trim work as the room had been finished. It is amazingly small and very flexible and easy to conceal. The ends are also fairly small since the actual HDMI plugs go on after you run the wire. So if you have to feed it through an opening you do not have to drill a very big hole like on a traditional HDMI plug end. Once I turned all my equipment on the picture and sound produced by this cable were crystal clear and rock solid. Great product!

EMI Protection for Long HDMI Cables

XrayPete from Haddam, CT on 9/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Over the years and on several occasions, our house has been indirectly hit by lightening strikes, which broadcast large EMI pulses that have destroyed numerous expensive audio and video devices. The weak link is always the HDMI circuitry in these devices rendering them useless or incredible expensive to repair. I had taken all the standard precautions with whole house surge protection, good grounding protocol, but I still kept loosing devices as recently as last month. The standard HDMI cable from my TV to my audio cabinet was over 35 ft long and buried in walls, under floors, and difficult to access. I recently replaced the standard HDMI cable with a Celerity active optical HDMI cable to avoid future damage to my electronics via EMI pulses. I selected the Celerity cable because it allowed me to pull it through the same difficult access areas that my previous standard HDMI cable ran. The detachable active ends of the Celerity cable allow the fiber optic cable portion to easily snake through difficult installations without damaging the electronic cable ends. So far the cable has performed flawlessly. I don't see any difference in signal quality from the standard copper HDMI cable and the Celerity optical HDMI version.

Pros: Stops transmission of destructive EMI pulses in long HDMI cable runs

Cons: A bit pricey, but so is the cost of repair/replacement of expensive AV equipment

Features

Celerity Technologies: Celerity Technologies develops high performance, easy to use fiber optic products for residential and commercial AV systems. Celerity's first breakthrough innovation, Detachable Fiber Optic HDMI has become successful with professional AV installers for single and multi-room video systems. Celerity's sleek, thin fiber optic cable with detachable HDMI connectors and high bandwidth makes it easy for installation and provides the ultimate video performance.

Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) HDMI Cable: Celerity's Detachable Fiber Optic (DFO) HDMI cable is designed to solve the installer's and home owner's common problems with long distance HDMI and concealed installations in home and business applications. The Celerity Detachable Fiber Optic (DFO) HDMI cable is an easy-to-use, secure connection for home video distribution, conference room presentation systems, classroom projection systems, and wherever a high definition video display is located. Fiber optics provides the speed and bandwidth needed for the best picture quality for high definition video at lengths up to 1000'; supporting the long distances required in many commercial and consumer video solutions.

Fiber Optics Benefit: Celerity's fiber optic technology converts HDMI into light signals that support today's high-definition and ultra-high definition bandwidth demands of 1080p and 4K, as well a multi-channel audio. Fiber optics work great for sending digital signals which include audio, video and data information. These signals travel faster and farther without degradation over fiber optics, versus copper. There is no loss of signal over long distance and no EMI interference which makes Celerity DFO the best choice for point-to-point and distributed high definition video connections. Celerity DFO HDMI offers the best picture and sound quality without and interference or loss of signal integrity.

18Gbps Bandwidth Technology for 4K & HDR: Enabled by Celerity's 18Gbps bandwidth technology, 4K/60Hz video performance for HDMI 2.0 is supported in Celerity Fiber Optic HDMI cables for sharp and detailed images on Ultra HDTV displays from 4K/60Hz resolution video sources. Also supporting HDR (High Dynamic Range) video & 36-bit Deep Color, Celerity offers unparalleled HDMI performance for picture quality, color depth and detail. In addition, Celerity DFO HDMI supports 1080p and 3D video.

HDMI Specifications: HDCP, EDID, DDC and CEC requirements are fully supported by Celerity's Detachable Fiber Optic (DFO) HDMI cables to ensure that the full quality HDMI experience is always reliable.

Zero Interference: Celerity Detachable Fiber Optic (DFO) HDMI cables do not pick up interference nor do they create interference to your entertainment system. As all of the signals being carried are optical light signals, they are completely immune to interference and electronic noise. Because Fiber Optic is EMI free, it can be installed with multiple cable pulls.

Detachable HDMI Connector: The Celerity Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) cable includes two detachable HDMI connectors that are easily attached to the miniature fiber optic plugs on each end of the cable after pre-wiring. The small Celerity fiber optic proprietary plugs on each end of the Celerity Fiber Optic cable connect to these detachable HDMI connectors which plug into your source and display devices. This detachable connector design is so that the Celerity fiber optic cable between components can be easily installed in tight, hidden spaces and in conduit when required.

Note: Celerity Technologies' Fiber Optic Plug terminating each end of the Celerity Fiber Optic HDMI cable supports proprietary technology for HDMI over Celerity  Fiber Optical cable. While the plug may appear similar to that of a micro-HDMI or mini-USB connector, it does not support any technical attributes of either connector.

Easy Installation + Plenum Rated: Celerity Detachable Fiber Optic (DFO) cables are thin, flexible, and easily hidden; plus feature a detachable HDMI connector making it very easy for professional AV technicians and DIY customers to install the fiber optic cable in walls, ceilings, and small conduit runs. All Celerity Fiber Optic cables are plenum rated for safe in-wall installation in your home, office, or building. There are no complicated fiber terminations, special tools, and testing required. And no extenders, baluns or amplifiers are needed either. The Fiber Optic Cable has a pull strength of 60 lbs.

Durable & Flexible Jack: Inside the Celerity Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) HDmI cable's jacket is a woven layer of very strong yarn to provide durability and pulling strength. The yarn, known as "strength members", protects the tiny, optical glass fibers. The cable jack is also flexible with a bend radius of 0.2" (5mm), which is approximately the diameter of a pencil.

Audio Return Channel (ARC): Celerity is the world's first fiber optic HDMI cable to support Audio Return Channel (ARC). ARC offers the benefit of requiring no additional cables to send sound from a TV to the home AV system for playback through the speakers in the room. For rooms with in-wall, in-ceiling or bookshelf speakers, ARC improves the audio experience tremendously without the need for additional cables or other accessories.

Power Requirements: The Celerity Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) cable is very efficient as its power needs are limited to very low levels. Power at the source component (TX/transmit) is drawn from the source HDMI connector using the HDMI "hot plug". At the display (RX/receive), power is easily connected via a USB port on the TV and with the USB power cable (19" in length) which is wired into the Celerity Detachable HDMI connector.

Note: In rare cases where insufficient power may be supplied, connecting the TX (transmitter) USB connector to a power source is required. The required specification is 5V 1000mA, 50/60Hz 120-240VAC.

LED Indicators: The Celerity Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) cable includes an LED indicator at each end of the fiber optic HDMI connector. These tiny LEDs are really important and convenient. They let you know that the Celerity Fiber Optic HDMI cable is properly working from end-to-end.

Directional: Celerity DFO HDMI cables are directional and must be installed correctly. Ensure the fiber optical plug and included detachable HDMI connector marked "T" is located at the source component. Ensure that the fiber optic plug and detachable HDMI connector marked "R" is located at the video display.

Available Lengths: The Celerity Detachable Fiber Optical (DFO) cable is available in 35', 40, 50', 100', 200', 500', and 1000' lengths.

I needed to carry 4k HDR over longer distances. Regular HDMI cables that are rated high speed do not work. [ Michael  Nov 16, 2016 ]
my current inside the wall cable not capable of handling 4k. liked the possibility to upgrade connectors when needed and still be able to keep/use the cable inside my wall. [ ANTHONY V  Oct 26, 2016 ]

I need to extend an HDMI cable 40 feet from a TV in the family room to equipment in the basement and this solution, compliant with the latest HDMI standards gives me future protection. [ Frederick  Oct 26, 2016 ]

Needed a good 50 foot HDMI cable for 4K HDR10. [ Alan  Jun 04, 2017 ]
Eagerly awaiting arrival of this one. Seems you can't pass 4K HDR content across an HDMI cable longer than 9 meters or so...I have a run of 50 ft, and this should take care of it. [ Ruben  Mar 11, 2017 ]
the length I needed was in stock [ chad  Feb 09, 2017 ]

I am sorry but I don't know for sure. The specs look like it should. I had a problem with the installation and returned the cable. The problems were most likely my setup. [ Samuel  Aug 13, 2016 ]
I don't know I returned the cable, it's a nice cable, but it's very expensive and I compared it to another lower cost cable and couldn't see any difference on a new 4 k ultra hi definition tv,. [ Joseph  Mar 12, 2017 ]
Yes it does. My setup has my Direct tv DVR in my hall closet with the tv in the bedroom. It works perfectly! [ MARK A  Mar 11, 2017 ]
I don't know.. I am using it to run long lengths of it intended use. Normal HDMI cable start to degrade signal after 25 feet. Sorry I could not help better. [ THOMAS S  Mar 11, 2017 ]
Yes and No. The fiber optic will ensure that no surge is going from one HDMI connector to the other. Those connectors are completely isolated. However if both devices are connected to the same electrical circuit for power, and this circuit is getting hit, both of them are exposed to damage. I recommend surge protectors for each device and you may want to look into whole house surge protection. Your electrician can help you with that. [ Udo  Aug 14, 2017 ]
One end is transmit...to be plugged into the video "supply" (set box or AV controller / stereo) and the other end is receive and must be plugged into the TV. No problems what so ever with the USB power supply.....and only one end has a USB plug....the other end does not. Hope this helps. This cable made it possible for my client to have the best video / audio signal to their 4K TV for the distance the TV was from the Denon A/V amp. [ BRIAN J  Mar 02, 2017 ]
Only one of the 2 usb cables needs to be plugged in. Most of the newer tv's have a couple of USB power plugs on the back of the tv. [ Amanda  Mar 01, 2017 ]
I started mine with the usb plugged into the tv and receiver it worked for about 20 minutes and then the picture would get dropped. So I plugged them both into outlets and it has worked fine since [ chad  Mar 01, 2017 ]
I picked up a USB charger with cable at Walmart for around 9 dollars [ Mark  Mar 01, 2017 ]
Plugging the USB into a TV shouldn't be a issue (I use a TVs USB port to power a Chromecast with no issue). For my setup, I use a small phone charger adapter at my projector since it doesn't have its own USB port. Never tried plugging in at the receiver end, but instructions clearly say it should be plugged in at the display side. [ Dhruv  Mar 01, 2017 ]
