Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I've always found it interesting how often subwoofers get typecast as being right for one application, but not another. "Ported-box subwoofers play really loud and are unbeatable for adding boom to action movies," some people say. Others claim, "Only a sealed-box sub gives me that tight, controlled bass I need for my music." Is it too much to ask to have one sub that can easily plumb the depths of bombastic Hollywood soundtracks, yet also provide pitch-perfect, lightning-quick low frequencies that bring out the best in our music?
SVS doesn't think so. Say hello to the SVS SB-2000 — a subwoofer that gives you the best of both worlds. Its high-output 12" aluminum-cone woofer and cool-running 500-watt Class D amplifier combine to deliver stunningly accurate bass at prodigious levels all the way down to 19 Hz. And that's something any music or movie buff can really get behind.
The SVS SB-2000 subwoofer delivers tight, powerful bass that will thrill home theater enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
The SB-2000 has a built-in Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that dynamically controls amplifier power to ensure you hear deep, low-distortion bass no matter how loud your music and movies get. It also uses an acoustic suspension (sealed) cabinet design with no hole or port to interact with your room, so you'll experience tight, accurate response from this sub for added depth and dimension with all of your entertainment sources. And since the driver creates some serious pressure inside the closed cabinet, SVS builds the SB-2000 strong and rigid to eliminate any cabinet flex and keep the bass clean.
Line-level inputs and outputs let you easily connect this sub to most audio systems. A Low Frequency Effects (LFE) input accepts the subwoofer connection from your A/V receiver. Its back-panel volume, crossover, and phase controls help you fine-tune the bass to ensure a perfect sonic match with your main speakers and your room. The sub includes four conical rubber feet that reduce surface contact area to decrease the amount of vibrations transmitted to the floor. The SB-2000 makes an excellent addition to just about any stereo music or home theater setup.
SVS was founded in 1998 by a group of audio enthusiasts seeking to develop a better alternative to the under-performing and over-priced subwoofers popular at the time. By leveraging advanced technology, using the highest quality components, and applying rigorous engineering and design principles, the SVS team has developed a line of high-performance, high-value audio products that bring music and movies to life with stunning realism.
Average Customer Review(s):
After planning on finding optimal room placement for both subs in my room and dialing them in, they are just right for my room.
Pros: Lot of bang with small foot print , dsp out box with smooth tuning, giving nice even bass response.
Cons: Doesnt dig as deep as some other more more expensive ported subs, so may leave some wanting more. But its for a seal sub definitely take care of most HT needs.
Tight bass yet room filling, for a large family room home theater. Superior effects and music capabilities. If you live in a condo or apartment your neighbors will not like this bad boy.
Pros: Sealed woofer for tighter bass, perfect for music A wall shaker for movies.
this is a great subwoofer very good power as well sound not booming out my house. I have a large parasound halo system and this fit the bill very NICE. very happy with my buy and no issues. thanks
Pros: very good power and feel went you set it right that is key to any subwoofer, love it.
Cons: little large, but no big deal
Dual setup created great tight low end that was missing.
Awesome awesome awesome!! Sweet tight perfect bass.
Pros: Tight accurate bass in a perfect size box!
Went with Dual SB2000 over a single SB13 Ultra and couldn't be happier. They each weigh 60lbs less than the ultra, which makes them very easy to position and rearrange. Having two subs provides incredibly even coverage. The 12" drivers really push the air, delivering bass you can feel. Piano gloss looks great. Extremely happy with my purchase.
Pros: Deep, powerful bass Lightweight Attractive finish
Cons: Doesn't bring me beer from fridge.
I upgraded from the SVS PB 2000 it was good for movies but far as listening to music it was okay it didn't seem to pack that punch I was looking for so I got the SVS SB 2000 and all I can say is wow works great with movies in my opinion and totally awesome with music when this thing hits you will know it's like getting hit with a bee sting, I only had the volume on the back of the sub halfway and never touched he settings on the receiver and had the volume on 45 and when this thing hit the low notes it literally shook my whole apartment, love it glad I got it also I like the wood grain better not a fan of the gloss
Pros: Hits hard, and does great with movies
Crisp bass that blends seamlessly with my home theater system, I keep it at 1/2 volume but if it gets turned up a bit it really bumps. Its in an open living room that is 15' x 15' with 13' ceiling. I would have given it 5 stars if the grille were not so ugly. It replaced a Polk DSW Pro 400 (8" ported) that burned out.
Pros: Price size sound quality
Cons: ugly grille
What a wonderfully powerful sub. Replacing a 20 year old Yamaha. Never knew what I was missing. Starting to watch my favorite movies again just for the bass. Thought I wanted the PB-2000 for home theater. But it was a little too big for my small room. (Glad I did a cut out before I bought it.) But this SB-2000 blows my mind. It never gives up. It's definitely no runner up. Goes plenty low for movies yet is very musical. Love it. Just watched Gravity last night. Great movie for bass. Lesson learned. Don't skimp on your next subwoofer. This was a little out of my budget, but I'm glad I listened to all the reviews!
Pros: Great bass. Very tight and musical.
Cons: Little expensive
I have read the great reviews for the svs subs for about 6 months now. I have a pb1000. I thought from reviews it was going to blow me away. No. Turns out my room is too large. So then I try the sb2000. I would rather the sb1000 than the sb2000..it was weak in my opinion. It did sound phenomenal. If you are like me and want loud and want a lot of bass and don't live in a closet don't go with the 1000 or the sb2000. I am giving the sb2000 a go and waiting on it to arrive today.. if it doesn't work out ill switch back to klipsch. I never had issues with klipsch subs they perform just fine (for me anyways) and are alot more affordable. I was just trying to upgrade and be able to tap in to the 17 18 hertz! I'll repost how it goes with the sb2000 and I'm not trying to knock svs. It's actually the nicest home audio sub I've ever heard. Built like a tank and best sound quality around. I guess my expectations were just in the wrong place. Hopefully the pb2 will make its mark.
I have been looking for a subwoofer to complete my modest home theater and I have had the opportunity to audition the SB-2000 twice. The first time was in a listening room in a high end store and I knew right away that it would work for me. The second time I drove a little further so I could compare it side by side with the SB-1000. This audition was in a larger room and was open to a huge area with televisions on display. This was a good thing because my house is an open floor plan with eleven foot ceilings in my living room. I would go so far as to say it is almost the worst possible design for a home theater. Both subs are excellent with tight, punchy bass that should please anyone. The 1000 is much smaller, like an Xbox One to an Xbox One S. It doesn't skimp on sound quality though. It has noticeably less output than the 2000 though. If you have a small room it might do the trick. The 2000 seems to be a little tighter and quite a bit louder. For my particular application that extra volume is the clincher. As far as the tightness, I think it probably stems from the extra wattage being able to control the voice coil better. Both of these subs are very capable and I can't say anything bad about either of them. The only reason I am going with the 2000 is that I could tell that the 1000 wouldn't play loud enough in my particular room.
Pros: Tight, punchy bass with good extension and excellent tonality.
Cons: More powerful than it's magnetic grill.
This sub rocks! I paired it with a couple of old 301's for a stereo music system to run my computer digital music collection through. The finish on the sub looks better than any of the photos too. You will enjoy this sub.
Pros: Tight sound. Nice wood.
I received the subwoofer one day earlier than expected. This is great service considering two other companies refused to ship it to Hawaii. The speaker was packed very well and unpacking instructions were well marked outside the box. Setup was very easy as I was able to use an extra low level output on my preamp and only had to reduce the volume slightly from the recommended starting point. The added fill from the subwoofer is great and as I become accustomed to the sound and level, I may make further adjustments.
Pros: The subwoofer has received good reviews and I will agree. Great sound for the price.
This sub completely outperforms it's price point. When you compare this Sub, it can be put up against subs in the 1000- 1500 price range. I am more than pleased with this purchase. Also, some people don't like the metal grill. If you have kids, you'll like it! And I actually think it makes the sub stand out in a crowded market of the "same ole look"
Pros: Best value in Crutchfield's sub offerings.
My main 3 way speakers that I have had since 1978 have 10" woofers and I never though I had the need for any more bass than what they delivered...which is good and clean. But, now that I finally broke down and upgraded to a full blown entertainment system with the big screen 3D TV and a new AVR, etc, something was missing. This is my first sub-woofer and I am truly amazed at the extra dimension it adds to music, movies and even plain ole TV shows! It took me a few days to get the settings right but now the low bass waves just flow under the rest of the sounds in their own plane. I am not a fan of boomy bass, and I guess this speaker can deliver that as well if you set the decibels high enough, but I really love the separation and clean tone it can achieve with the proper settings. It got here in two days, as promised and was a breeze to set up. I decided to go with the sealed box simply do to size constraints and for a possibly tighter sound. My main speakers are sealed cabinets as well. I am very please with this purchase.
Pros: Great clean, low bass.
Cons: Takes a while to get the settings right
Returned the PB-1000 for this SB-2000 (Couldn't fit the PB-2000 in this area). There was a magical difference for the better when listening to Music; and Movies are better too. At least to me anyway. The lows are phenomenal and its so Crispy clean, and punchy. No drone whatsoever! I have this paired up with a Klipsch R-110SW. The two actually work very together. They both are punchy and clean. Obviously this goes way lower in frequency than the 110SW. Was listening to a Pandora station and somehow Arianna Grande came up. I was about to hit the dislike button when all of a sudden it hit some super low frequency that made the hair on my neck stand straight up! This sub hits some lows I've never experienced before. Now I'm thinking I should have bought two..... SVS dun good with this one.
Pros: Low Frequency Range (goes way low!) Punchy and clean notes Size ...did I mention it goes way low?
Cons: Give it some time to break in.
Wow this really is the subwoofer
This is my first home theater subwoofer. I've tried different subwoofers in my pickup truck over the years, but this is my first in-home sub. I honestly didn't think I needed one. My 22 year old home theater receiver finally went bad, so I had to get a new one. The old receiver didn't have outputs for subs. Subs weren't yet part of the set up at that time, and for all those years I thought movies and music sounded just fine. Never even gave it a thought. My new receiver has outputs for subs. So, I thought I'd try one and see how it sounds. Like I said, I didn't think I needed one before, but, WOW, I couldn't believe the difference! I never knew what I was missing! I had no idea! As I am writing this, I am still watching the first movie with it, Top Gun. Scene after scene is coming to life like never before. The movie's soundtrack and flight scenes sound MUCH bolder. This sub adds an awesome presence. The manual said to put the volume at just below the halfway point for running the receiver's auto-calibration set up, but after that, I turned up the sub's volume to a little bit past the halfway mark. I think that's a little bit too much in some of the scenes, so I may turn it back down some. Nice to know that there is overwhelming power there if I want it though. This is a most excellent sub! I am VERY glad I got it. I am sitting here in amazement at it. I couldn't be happier with it!
Pros: Sounds incredible!
I like this sub. it'll definitely go as loud as you want and will start shaking all the walls in your house if that's something you are looking for. but that wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted this for music - I'm a dedicated 2 channel audio guy, and I'm also an audio / recording engineer in nashville. I installed some monitor audio ceiling and wall speakers, and honestly, wasn't very happy with them, so I got this sub to see if it would help. It's a fairly large room with two pairs of ceiling speakers installed. after playing a bit with the crossover and volume settings, I've got the room sounding amazing. a 2nd sub would be nice but honestly its very full and satisfying with just this simple, single addition. when my wife wants to crank up her dance music, we can shake the house. but for everything else (classical, vocal-driven folk and acoustic music, modern roots music, etc.) I've got it dialed in and the room is about as balanced and well-sounding as I can imagine. this sub really did the trick. beautiful, subtle low end. fast, musical, tight bass. couldn't be happier. for what its worth, I was deciding between this and the JL D110, which is also an excellent option. ultimately I chose the SB-2000 based mostly on price. very happy with my decision.
Pros: price. compact size. will blast some serious bass if thats what you want, but if you dial it in it will provide very fast, precise, well balanced bass. excellent for music.
Cons: as many have mentioned, ugly front grill. I just took it off. looks cool without it.
This subwoofer delivers clear and precise bass to supplement both my music and movies. I bought it mostly to provide the deep, full and clear bass sounds from my hi-res music collection. This speaker is used in a 9.2.4 configuration where the other subwoofer is a 12" ported speaker. I used Audyssey to balance them so that I don't experience booming effects from the ported subwoofer when I listen to music with lots of bass. It also provides the depth to my movies by balancing the bass frequencies within my home theater and eliminating the voids that are obvious when a single subwoofer is used. I highly recommend using this speaker to listen to quality music, if you want to feel and hear the bass as it was meant to be heard and felt.
Pros: Small and easy to fit into most decor. Great sounding speaker with lots of depth and precision. Adds dynamics to music and movies. Firmly built and attractive housing.
Cons: The front grill takes some getting used to, I'm not a big fan of how it is configured, even though I like its metallic construction.
Sounds good, looks good, operates as it should, overall good purchase
Pros: Nice build
Cons: Front grill could be more refined
The first SVS SB-2000 was dead on arrival. Sent it back to Crutchfield and they sent another. This cost 1 star. Quality control at SVS should be better. Now down to the nitty gritty! I hooked the sub up and this one worked. At first, I wasn,t all that impressed until I matched the level of the sub to the other speakers. This setting was between 1-2 o'clock. Next, I played Bryan Ferry"s Live at Lyon and I must say I have never heard bass this smooth and deep for music. Then, I played the Specialist with Sly Stallone and Sharon Stone to check out the bass with all the [explosions for movie's. The bass gets low and deep.If you require more get the flagship model. I have SVS isolation feet on my SB 2000 which is why I had to give it a little more power than its predecessor.
Pros: stunning bass in music. Can more than hold its own in movies.Very solid and well made
Cons: Quality control could be better at SVS
You may review my many emails to the Crutchfield tech people discussing the difficulties I have been experiencing. The sub woofer did not work when connected to the Yamaha SWK-W16, and the latest advice was for me to use a calibration microphone in order to calibrate my Yamaha soundbar, TV, sub-woofer, and wireless transmitter to communicate seamlessly. As of now, I am still waiting for the delivery of the Yamaha calibration mic and am hopeful that the calibration procedure will be successful. If not, I would now be the owner of an expensive coffee table. I have been grateful and very pleased with all the tech people who offered their advice and expertise. These are the people who make Crutchfield a consumer friendly company.
Great sounding sub. It's small for easy and unobtrusive placement, but don't let the size fool you. Its bass is big and deep! It's sealed: perfect for music and movies. Recommended for small to mid-sized rooms. Initially bought it to try it for a week. Decided to keep it after the first 10 minutes of watching Star Trek: Into Darkness (in Dolby Atmos). I highly recommend it!
Pros: Compact (12" sub), 500 watts with 1,000 peak dynamic power, sealed for punch, deep bass, light to facilitate placement, easy set up.
Cons: piano black gloss is more expensive
It sounds like music. I play drums and a drummer and bass player work together. Bass licks and kick drums sound real on my SVS SB-2000. It makes up for what my Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-160M can't quite reach down to. It never sounds like rumbling or thunder, it sounds like a musical instrument sounds. My sub does nothing about 80% to 90% of the time. But when the music is there this sub reproduces it faithfully. NAD C 356BEE integrated amp in the mix too. Get the low pass filter set up right with your speakers then adjust the volume. Check the SVS website and use the Merlin selection tool to get a very close starting point to set this sub up with your speakers. You'll know the SB-2000 is there when it's called for.
Pros: Exactly what I was looking for and it fit into my budget.
Cons: None for me.
Great sub, small package, good price. Needed big sound with a smaller size. Did some research, but my product advisor was great and he convinced me this speaker was right for my needs. Worried about a sealed box, but a ported box is much bigger with a 12" driver. Just didn't have room. Turns out the sound is tremendous. I have a large room, open to other rooms, wood floors, 12' ceilings. This speaker shakes the walls, you can really feel it! Just what you want from a sub. I have it placed in the corner on the same wall as the main speakers. Looks like it is constructed well, and the front cover is heavy steel. No damage if you accidentally hit it with something.
Pros: Small size, big driver, big amp. Does the job.
Very happy with the bass this sub provides.
Pros: Great Value
This is by far the best sub available in this price range, and the free shipping to Hawaii for something this heavy is hard/impossible to find anywhere else!
Great sound. Great price. Great service.
The SB 2000 replace my 5 year old Klipsch sub. The SB 2000 is much more well balanced while listening at low levels as well as higher levels. The bass is great. Love it.
Pros: The bass is great with movies and music. Great customer service at Crutchfield.
When the box arrived at my house, I was a little worried at how small it was and how it would keep up with my Klipsch Quartets and the rest of the loud sytem. Boy was I wrong! This thing explodes more than my M&K mx-125 and is less than half the footprint! I have a 1,300 cubic foot room and it is more than enough to shake the walls. I had to put some foam behind my hanging pictures as it was quite distracting at times. This sub is SO musical, yet still pounds for home theater use. Seriously, do not hesitate to pull the trigger if you are on the fence.
After reading the reviews on several subwoofers, I picked this one and couldn't be happier. The SVS SB-2000 provides, smooth, clean, clear and precise base notes that is a pleasure to listen to. It is also capable of providing all the punch you'll ever need.
Pros: Clean, clear and precise base notes that is a pleasure to listen to.
I am very pleased with this purchase. I first bought the PB-2000 and returned it. The sound was great but the unit was too big. I was concerned that I would not be happy with the smaller sub. No problems, very accurate and clean base for music and movies. I am using it with Mission 773's, Mission Center channel and 2 Paradigm rear speakers. If a space is a problem , the sb2000 is the way to go.
Pros: Clean accurate sound. Thumping bass when wanted. Great customer service. Crutchfield and SVS
I looked hard for a good audio sub woofer and the sales rep at Crutchfield recommended this one. I had not heard of SVS before, but after reading about it, and Crutchfield's return policy, I tried it. I was very glad i did. This speaker is awesome. It really adds the final touch to my audiophile high resolution music system. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a high end sub.
Pros: This has a higher wattage amp than other subs I looked at, a proper size speaker for most room sizes, regular rotor knobs (I don't care for digital push buttons), and a crossover that goes up to 160hz which gives better range than the typical 120hz if needed.
Cons: The speaker cover is not cosmetic. The speaker is exposed to view and the arched metal cover is just for protection of the speaker. The speaker is so good that the pros out weigh the single con for me.
A reviewer claiming this was his favorite out of '10 top subs' peaked my curiosity. Sealed subs did not add up in my mind, but pulled the trigger anyway. Wow. This is the most musical I have ever heard sub. Turns my Klipsch's into a wall of sound. Not boomy. Solid and Complete. I have been running subs since the seventies, and this is a brand new experience. Highly recommended
Pros: Sound reinforcement is Solid. No Booms, Smooth. The most Musical I have ever heard. Crystal clear, well built. SVS is just a friendly phone call away. ( enjoyed the chat ) Can run a second SB-2000 if necessary.
First of all, I only recently just started to purchase audio gear here at Crutchfield and I must say it's going to be my one stop shop for all things audio due to the free shipping to Hawaii on anything I purchase including my SVS SB2000 sub. I originally wanted to purchase this sub directly from the SVS website but after contacting them about shipping to Hawaii I was told that I'd be charged an additional $100.00 plus. Shipping to Hawaii is a chronic issue we face here when ordering stuff online and after that talk with an SVS representative I was devastated. So I went to the Crutchfield website and the very first thing I see is the BIG BOLD statement that says FREE 2 DAY SHIPPING TO HAWAII ON ALL ORDERS! At this time Crutchfield had only begun to sell SVS subs and was perfect timing for me as well being that I've begun looking for subs and here was the perfect place to make the order. So I pulled the trigger for an SVS SB2000 subwoofer and to my surprise that big bold statement I mentioned earlier was no joke! I literally received my sub the 2nd day! Thank you Crutchfield you have earned yourselves a loyal and repeat customer! Anyway, I finally completed my 2.1 system with the addition of the SB2000 and I must say I am loving it! I have a pair of Emotiva Stealth 8 speakers and it is a match made in heaven! Honestly, looks really can be deceiving, as this sub may have a small enclosure but it scares the heck out of me with it's sheer power and performance, it is a powerhouse
Pros: Clean, tight and deep bass response. Awesome for both music and movies. Extremely articulate and accurate, you can't miss the bass notes on every song.
Cons: At the current price I think it should have came with the Sub Isolation Path system.
After much research I decided on the SVS SB-2000 to replace my cheap Polk subwoofer. I could not be happier. The SVS blends perfectly for my floor standing speakers and fills the room from all listening locations. It sounds great in a 5.1 setup for movies and in a 2.1 setup for music which was exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend.
Pros: Sound Quality. Small footprint compared to output and performance.
Cons: Grill is not the most attractive, but it can be removed...

If this switch is set to "On", the amplifier will remain on continuously and will not enter "Standby" mode.
Power Status Light: The power status light is located on the front-panel of the powered subwoofer in the upper left corner. The light will illuminate blue when the amplifier is on. The light will illuminate red when the amplifier is in standby mode.
3V-12V Trigger Input: When in standby mode, the powered sub's trigger input (3.5mm) can be used to automatically turn on the powered subwoofer if a signal is sent to this input from another component in the system (like your AV receiver) that features a trigger output.

Reviews for SVS SB-2000 on Crutchfield and Sound & Vision consistently good, sealed enclosure appears to be clean and crisp for music and movies, above-average power/reserve, SVS apparent good quality backed by 5-year warranty, needed frequency range at least 120 Hz to match current system and HSU only went to 80 Hz, Crutchfield price was best seen and free shipping were factors, have ordered from Crutchfield before, good reputation and can trust customer service, web checkout very efficient. I went with dual SB-2000's instead of one SB13-ULTRA because the 2000's only weigh 35 lbs each; the ULTRA weighs 92 lbs. They also have a smaller individual footprint. I wanted to ensure even bass coverage of my listening area, and I don't need SPL above 85 db. My A/V receiver (Anthem MRX720) will be used for bass management (ARC), so i don't need the customizing features the SB13-ULTRA has. I am pairing these with B&W CM8 S2 fronts and a B&W Centre 2 S2 center channel for a medium size room. [ Terri Sep 04, 2017 ]
Thought the Sb2000 would be a good choice for a 5.1 system. The unit I recieved was defective and had to be returned. [ greyscale May 18, 2017 ]

The SVS SB-2000 requires a Mini 1/8 TS Male Mono connector for the input trigger. Most receivers have a 1/4 inch mono jack for the trigger out. I solved this by buying a 15 ft. mono cord with 1/4 inch male connectors at each end. I then bought a 1/4 Inch Female To Mini 1/8 TS Male Mono Adaptor to complete the connection from receiver to subwoofer. Hope this helps. [ Donald May 10, 2016 ]
Thanks for our question. Unfortunately no pictures. Items sold from the scratch and dent outlet normally have very minor cosmetic blemishes. Everything is tested to confirm full operation. Manufacturers warranty still applies, and we have a 60 day satisfaction guarantee on everything we sell. Hope that helps. [ Kenny Mar 04, 2016 ] Staff
