Add Dolby Atmos with these high-value speakers

Want to take your home theater's soundstage all the way to the ceiling? Add Dolby Atmos to your system with the ELAC Debut A4 speaker modules. These add-on speakers sit on top of your floor-standing or bookshelf speakers. Together with an Atmos compatible home theater receiver, these speakers add another level of realism and excitement to movies, concerts, and sporting events in your home theater.

The A4's drivers are angled toward the ceiling. That means they can bounce sound off of your ceiling, giving you huge sound. Atmos can even place sounds more accurately in your listening space, for outstanding realism and detail.

They're a perfect match for ELAC's Debut B5 or B6 bookshelf speakers — also designed by Jones.

Bought 2 pairs to go along with my vintage late 90's/ early 00's Polk surround setup and surprised as to how well they mesh together. Atmos and DTS X effects are very well stated and Dolby surround and DTS Neo X simulated effects are effective.

Great speakers!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These ELAC Debut A4 Dolby Atmos speakers go great with the rest of our ELAC Debut speakers. I can't knock any stars off for the size of the A4's, as they were designed to sit on the F5/B5 speakers. We are using them on the F6 and B4 speakers. The A4's are a little shorter and narrower than the F6's, and a little longer and wider than the B4's. The A4's come with clear, sticky rubber feet that get placed on the bottom of the A4's so they are both isolated from the speaker they are sitting on, as well as not damaging the surface finish of either speaker. Since the feet have a slight tackiness to them, the A4 does not move around once it is sitting in place. Connections are the same as the rest of the ELAC Debut line, with their binding posts with indentations on the knob to make screwing and unscrewing easier (if inserting bare wire into hole). We used banana plugs to connect the speaker wire to our A4's. Since our first experience with Dolby Atmos was installing these speakers in our living room (two pairs, one pair in front and one pair in rear), we do not have a reference as to what they should sound like. We did watch a Dolby Atmos demo video, as well as a couple 4K movies and shows with Dolby Atmos soundtracks, and the effect of vertical sound is very evident. Much more immersive as opposed to just surrounds in the horizontal plane.

Pros: Price Ease of install Appearance Sound

Cons: Size only matches ELAC Debut F5/B5 speakers

A bargain.

Thomas from Greer's Ferry Lake , AR on 12/5/2017

If you're thinking about buying an Atmos speaker... this is the one to buy! These A4's do what they're supposed to signal wise and they look and sound good doing it as well. I doubt there's any in this price range that can touch these. These are a great buy and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase them!

Pros: They do what they're supposed to while sounding great!

Cons: None that I know of.

Love it

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had finally decided to upgrade my speaker system mainly because I am switching up my living room into a 4K TV/gaming living room and with the upcoming Xbox One X, it promises to have Dolby Atmos in video games. I decided to go with a 5.1.2 system instead of 5.1.4 because I was unsure of how Dolby Atmos would actually sound in my living room, especially since I am unable to put actual speakers in the ceiling. Well, I probably should have gone with a 5.1.4 receiver/set up instead because these speakers actually work. My ceiling height is 9ft and has the perfect material for bouncing sound off of it. I purchased Dolby atmos movies John Wick 1&2, Terminator Genisys, and Batman vs Superman. Scenes with rain, helicopters, Superman flying off into the atmosphere, people yelling in stairwells above, gunfights and motorcycles falling unto the roof of school buses etc. really shine and will have you looking up at the ceiling in amazement. I bought these from Crutchfield outlet as scratch & dent and am extremely happy with my purchase.

Pros: Great sound, Dolby Atmos actually works

Cons: Just a little bit wider than my floor standing speakers, not a deal-breaker

Great Atmos effects speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a big elac fan since I purchased the debut B6 for my 2 channel stereo listening , I'm not totally sold on these just yet but that my be due to my onkyo tx-nr737 not picking up the atmos off DVD , yes I did firmware update. My wife said it sounded better 5.1 setup and I now have 5.0.2 and sound is more diffused , not bad and I don't use subwoofers cause my def tech towers more than enough bass . The vertict on the ceiling bounce effect , I'm not sold on , see audioholics reviews on atmos , These guys are spot on .

Pros: Great sound and stylish

Cons: Don't hear much of a difference , but not sure atmos being picked up off receiver as it isn't in display on front of receiver.

Does what it's supposed to do...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought 2 pairs for Atmos. You need to have good highs and mids which these do. Front ones are driven with 150W and the rears with 75W. There is a difference in sound quality, so drive them with as much power as possible(though they are small). Atmos source or not, these speakers have elevated the home theater experience to a different level. You will feel that 3D ambience. It's pretty convenient to place these on top of your existing speakers. Must have, affordable, good quality speakers!

Pros: Price. Size. Convenient placement.

Cons: A few minor blemishes on and around the grille.

GREAT ITEM

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Greatest speakers for their size and price. I can't afford to spend thousands on a home theater system so the ELAC speakers work fine for me. My first blu-Ray disc was Mad Max and the sound was awesome.

Pros: The sound they put out and the reasonable price.

Cons: I did not order them sooner from Crutchfield.

Features

Dolby Atmos Loudspeaker: The Elac Debut A4 has been specifically designed to be used as the "elevation" or "height" speaker in a Dolby Atmos system from 5.1.2 to 7.1.4. The A4's constructions & performance characteristics follow the strict guidelines set by Dolby in order to deliver a true Dolby Atmos experience. The Elac Debut A4 fires sound toward the ceiling which is then reflected to the main listening area to create the height information embedded into Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos takes surround sound to a completely new level, by adding the third dimension of height to the two dimensional front/back left/right 5.1 or 7.1 sound mix. In Dolby Atmos, the floor speakers create the sound "bed" and the Dolby Atmos enabled elevation speakers are fed a separate, discrete signal to move "sound objects" around the room with pinpoint accuracy. The effect is totally convincing, and really elevates the home cinema experience to new heights.

Note: A Dolby Atmos AV receiver or processor (sold separately) will be required for Dolby Atmos surround.

Two-Way Coaxial Driver Design: The Elac Debut A4 Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker features a two-way coaxial driver design with a 0.5" tweeter, 4" woofers, and a 2,000Hz crossover. The tweeter is positioned in the center of the woofer cone. Both the tweeter and woofer have been custom designed by Andrew Jones to deliver an exceptional audio experience that can't be delivered with typical off-the-shelf parts

  • Polymer Dome Tweeter: The Debut A4 features a coaxially mounted 0.5" polymer dome tweeter for crisp, clear highs.
  • Woven-Aramid Fiber Woofer: The Dolby Atmos enabled speaker features a single 4" woven aramid-fiber cone woofer with rubber surround, oversized magnet, and vented pole piece. Woven aramid fiber offers a superior stiffness-to-weight ratio and damping over common polypropylene or paper cones. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended frequency response.
  • Custom Crossover: A custom seven-element crossover (2,000Hz) with audio-grade components is implemented to ensure smooth transition between the tweeter and woofer.

Acoustic Suspension MDF Cabinet: The Elac Debut A4 Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker uses an acoustic suspension (sealed) cabinet for tight, accurate midbass performance. The cabinet is made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), helping minimize unwanted vibrations that can discolor music or movie content. The MDF outer walls of the cabinet are covered with a textured vinyl black finish. Detachable metal grilles are included.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Elac Debut series A4 is fitted with a set of 5-way binding-post terminals which will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Applications: The Elac Debut series A4 can be used in 5.1.2, 5.1.4, and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos configurations. Make sure to following mounting, placement, and room requirements for best performance.

  • Mounting Options: The A4 is designed to set on top of the Debut Elac B5/B6 bookshelf or F5/F6 floorstanding loudspeakers, matching perfectly. It can also be used with other brands of conventional bookshelf or floorstanding speakers that feature a flat top-panel on the speaker cabinet.
  • Placement: For optimal effect and to minimize direct radiating audio at listener level, place the Dolby Atmos enabled speakers at or slight above the height of your ears when seated. Avoid placing the Dolby Atmos enabled speakers higher than one-half the height of your wall. The Dolby Atmos enabled speakers should be placed no closer than 3' from the main listening position; ideally they should be positioned 5' or more away.
  • Room Height: For optimal performance, the ceiling should be flat, (not angled or vaulted), with a height of 14' or less, and made of an acoustically reflective material; such as drywall, plaster, or hardwood. The ideal ceiling height is between 7.5' and 12'. Sound-absorbing and sound-diffusing treatment for handling unwanted reflections from the walls and floor is recommend to improve sound quality and system performance.

Elac Debut Series: The Elac Debut series family of loudspeakers consists of two bookshelf speakers, two floorstanding speaker, a center-channel speaker, a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker, and two powered subs.

Have two on the Front Channels and wanted to add the Dolby Atmos Rear Channels which match the front. The price and quality of this item is very good. Have been very pleased with the sound quality of the two Elac speakers I have on the Front and would recommend them as an entry into the Dolby Atmos without breaking your budget. I was debating between this Elac Debut A4's and the Klipsch R-14SA's. Given that all of my current speakers are Polk, I was concerned that the Klipsch speakers would not blend well with the Polks. 1 question already asked

They are not intended to be mounted but placed on top of existing tower speakers or on any flat surface like a TV stand or shelf. They need to be pointing up toward the ceiling to redirect sound for ATMOS. [ James  Nov 16, 2017 ]
These speakers are not intended to be mounted on the ceiling. They are designed to sit on top of existing speakers (or some other horizontal surface) so that they can reflect sound off of the ceiling. [ Peter  Nov 14, 2017 ]
The A4's are designed to be used on top of floor standing or bookshelf speakers. They are angled to bounce the sound off the ceiling. There are no mounting holes in the cases. I don't believe they would work well on the ceiling. [ dkbks  Nov 14, 2017 ]
These speakers are meant to be placed on a shelve and angle toward your non faulted ceiling and reflect sound off ceiling down to your llisteninf position . If you insist on ceiling you could try double sided gorilla tape or epoxy glue which is best adhesive in my opinion . The first option is best and safer. [ Bubbainc  Nov 14, 2017 ]
These speakers do not have any mounting holes on the bottom or sides so I don't see how they can be ceiling mounted. I bought a pair of these speakers and placed them on separate speaker stands using double sided tape (tape on bottom of speaker, speaker aimed at ceiling). They site directly behind my left and right front speakers and are aimed at the ceiling (for Dolby Atmos). They work pretty well for Atmos encoded audio. [ Franklin  Nov 14, 2017 ]
