Our take on the ELAC Debut B6

ELAC's Debut B6 bookshelf speakers deliver dynamic sound with incredible detail and powerful bass. ELAC's Debut B6 bookshelf speakers deliver dynamic sound with incredible detail and powerful bass. Designed by renowned speaker engineer Andrew Jones, the B6s were created from the ground up to deliver high-end audio performance with a modest price tag. When I got the opportunity to listen to them here at Crutchfield headquarters, I was blown away. These remarkable speakers offer a wide soundstage, pristine imaging, and surprisingly deep bass for their size.

Tower-like sound from a bookshelf speaker

One of the most impressive qualities of the B6 speakers is their ability to accurately play low frequencies. Even in our cavernous training room, they belted out authoritative bass without strain. They are perfect for the front or surround sound channels in a home theater. Or use a pair for a killer 2-channel music system. For a living room, dorm, or office system the B6s will provide a true full-range listening experience without the need for a subwoofer taking up floor space.

Custom components deliver high-end performance

Many budget-level speakers use inexpensive, lightweight parts to keep the price down. Unfortunately, this often means a sacrifice in audio performance. The B6s stay true to their audio roots by using custom-designed, high-quality crossovers. This attention to detail lends to the overall magic that these speakers offer. Smooth high-frequencies from the 1" silk dome tweeter complement the powerful 6-1/2" woven aramid-fiber woofer. The result is full, natural sound that won't break your budget.

A legendary speaker designer strikes again

Andrew Jones made a name for himself designing phenomenal high-end speakers across the industry. Lately, he's turned his attention toward creating speakers that offer excellent performance at very affordable prices. The Debut B6 speakers are his latest triumph. They make a perfect match in a surround sound setup with the entire ELAC Debut line, all of which were designed by Jones.

Nice speakers for the price and well worth the dollars spent. Sounds good overall but the bass is a bit harsh at times. This could be caused by my old receiver as well but need to turn the bass all the way down at times to relieve that "bassy" sound. No regrets though....

Give These a Try!

Bryan from Oneonta, NY on 5/30/2018

This is the first day so subject to change but especially at the current price give these a try. The bad: finish is ok but seems like it will mark or nick easily. The good: I have never heard anything sound like this for the price. Even at the $300 they are easily worth it. I found that at ear height these have excellent imaging once you're between them. The bass that comes out is real and amazing for a 6.5in Woofer. I bet for most people they don't need a subwoofer. The speakers are naturally a bit bassy so it doesn't take much EQing to get adequate bass. They actually work great with my cheap 5.1 Pioneer receiver which is kinda anemic with most speakers. My only regret with these is now I want to hear the more expensive Elacs.

Pros: Amazing sound and bass for the size and price range

Cons: Finish is what it is(money goes to the sound with these)

Great for the money, especially at their closeout price

Fred from Cornelius, NC on 5/21/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm afraid to hear the B6.2 speakers, as they may be much better. But the initial hype was about these B6s, and at their now-discounted price, they are no brainers. Their bass is deeper than I expected, and overall they seem well balanced. Yes, there are much better speakers (I own some!), but those are almost guaranteed to be significantly more expensive. Pair these with a halfway decent receiver, and I think you'll be quite pleased.

Pros: Great for the money

Cons: Boring, sort-of ugly black vinyl sides. You can't have it all at this price!

I bought used one. It sounds great! Its bass goes down pretty deep. I don't feel I need a subwoofer. I took one star out, because one of the speaker's beauty ring isn't going in. It doesn't affect the sound, but a little bit annoying sometimes.

Great Speakers - If you can get em!

Peter from Woodside, NY on 5/13/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great, neutral sounding "full-range" bookshelf speakers, and I got a great deal from Crutchfield on two pairs of these. I'm using them as ATMOS and Auro 3D surround/height speakers and they are excellent for that. The case finish on these are attractive but have a brushed surface that seems to attract and easily show dust. In any case, these are excellent speakers - but they are no longer being made in favor of the newer version (B6.2) which has the bass port in the front and a slightly less low end reach, at least spec-wise - so get the B6 if you can and don't care where the bass port is.

Pros: Full-Range, neutral sounding compact speakers; great for surround speakers or less ambitious main speakers.

Cons: Case finish seems to attract dust and shows it very readily.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had these speakers for a couple of weeks and I like their sound. That being said I really am not hearing a huge improvement over my Energy Connoisseur speakers. The ELAC speakers seem a little dull sounding and their enclosures seem a bit cheap looking. They are big speakers and they do need to be on a sturdy stand. The speaker grills are a bit tough to remove. I'll give them a little while yet to break in and then see if the overall sound improves.

Pros: Price Size Bass

Cons: A little dull sounding Enclosures seem cheap

Never did I expect.....

Todd from Fishkill, NY on 4/16/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't want to like these things. I tried really, really hard to not fall for these speakers. I didn't need new speakers. I loved my vintage a/d/s L8e's that I bought new about a hundred years ago. They were (and still are) incredible sounding speakers. I received my new set of Elac Debut B6 speakers about 2 weeks ago. And I hooked them up briefly (just to make sure they worked), then went right back to enjoying the awesome sound from my a/d/s. I bought new 14 gauge wires and banana plugs from Crutchfield a couple weeks ago also, figuring I would want to swap back and forth between the old and the new....and as expected, when I hooked the a/d/s speakers back up with the new wiring, they were still incredible sounding......And there the Elac's sat, on the floor since then. So today I finally decided to give them a try. Well, now my a/d/s speakers are on the floor, and I am completely shocked at the sound coming out of the Elac's. Never in a million years did I expect to not reconnect my old speakers that have treated me so well all these years. Now I need to find somewhere safe to store the old a/d/s L8e's......

Pros: The clarity and detail is incredible. It's a bonus to have more space without compromising sound and presence.

Cons: I'm still coming to terms with how inexpensive they are compared to the quality of sound I'm hearing, but I guess I'll get over it!

Decent bookshelf speakers

Alex from Victorville, CA on 3/5/2018

Receiver: Pioneer VSX-516-K (crossover set at 80) Sub: Emotiva BASX S10 PlayStation 4 Pro (for games) Sony X800 4k Blu-ray player (for music and films) FILMS: Sicario, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Interstellar. MUSIC: Depeche Mode, "Exciter" CD, Depeche Mode, "Ultra" CD, Maurice Ravel's "Bolero", CD. GAMES: Batman: Arkham City (PS4). They are heavy, and I like that. After placing them on the stands and hooking them up, I fired up the Exciter CD. While most of the album sounded loud - and a bit forceful - it didn't sound as clear as I liked, as if the highs were taking a backseat to the lower frequencies. This basically continued with the film segments. I'd say it was probably a little less noticeable with the films though. I didn't have any problems with dialog (though maybe not as clear/clean as I'd like) and they handled the action scenes fine. One thing I did notice was in a couple of spots I noticed just a hint of "vibration," like some frequency was getting a bit fuzzy. This was apparent in watching Batman. I hope I'm explaining that correctly. The "fuzziness" also occurred a couple of times while listening to Exciter. Strangely enough, when listening to "Bolero" some of the highs were a bit loud and off-putting. The soundstage didn't sound as deep or wide as I would have like. Towards the end of the piece they have had a bit more low end which helped with the drums, but it sacrificed some clarity. I think

Wow. The sound coming out of these little guys belie their size. Just incredible really. I needed to remove my large Vandersteen 2Ce towers and replace with smaller speakers and I don't miss the Vandersteens! The bass just sounds great placed a foot from the back wall. The sound is well balanced and very detailed. Everything from soft piano, jazz to rock sounds fantastic. I highly recommend these speakers.

Pros: Sound, price.

Cons: None.

Really Nice Mid-Sized Bookshelf

Marc from Franklin, TN on 2/20/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I auditioned both the B5 and B6. Both speakers have great mids and highs, but being a bass player, I wanted a little extra lower end oomph that I felt the B5 did not quite provide. The B6 delivered. I think the B5 would be great in a small room or apartment, especially when paired with a subwoofer. The B6 will work well in larger rooms, and does not require a sub unless you are really into Home Theater. Truly an amazing speaker for the bucks.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In one word just Awesome for the money you spent. Powered the Elac B6 with NAD 705. Output was too good with Deep Tight bass and its imaging was good. Tested them with Tamil & English albums they are sounding good. I was worried about the speaker Sensitivity 87db whether the Amp can power it up. It sounded great and may be a powerful amp can bring some more insight in the Music, however a budget amp can also do better. Equipment's : NAD 705 Stereo Receiver Fiio D3 DAC Blue Jeans Cable LC1 White

Pros: Deep Tight Bass, High's were good, its hard to find a Bookshelf speaker in this price range which can compete with any book shelf under $700 Speaker.

Cons: Nothing

Amazing sound, horrible finish

James from Arlington, VA on 12/19/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound that comes from these speakers is absolutely fantastic. Shocked would be the word that first comes to mind when I heard the incredible soundstage these bookshelf speakers created. The bass is spectacular and almost seems impossible that it's coming from of 6.5 inch speaker. All of that being said, the finish on these speakers is garbage. The vinyl wrapped brushed finish scratches if you look at the wrong way and one of my speakers arrived with a noticeable dent on one of the edges. If for Elac could improve the cabinet finish on these it be 100% the best your money could buy for under a grand.

Cons:

Crisp clear detailed sound that impressed the ear

Doug from Okeechobee, FL on 12/19/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was mildly impressed at first listen after unboxing these. I have them sitting on top of matching nightstands in a bedroom setup. Roughly about 30 inches above the floor, not far from corners of the room. Like I said, mildly impressed at first. After listening to these daily for about 3 weeks or so, they just get better and better. Don't know if they are "breaking in" or my ears are more accustomed to the speakers, but they continue to impress every day and make my ears quite happy. Enough so that my next purchase will be the floor version of this series for my main system.

Pros: Yes!

Cons: None

Really good speakers

Daniel from Sacramento, CA on 12/13/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are really good speakers but not phenomenal as some have said. However, at the price, pretty amazing! I paired them with a 10" klipsch sub and the sound is super smooth and pretty full. They are in a very large (800 sq ft) living room and fill the space adequately. I replaced Polk rti 8s with these and prefer the elacs. They work well across all genres of music without needing adjustments to bass/treble/sub (unlike the 8s). These are very mellow speakers and easy on the ears. No sharp highs. They do not produce "concert hall" sound, and I find them only adequate for Classical music (possibly better in smaller spaces?). Overall, I do really like them and at the price, no question a Good Buy.

Pros: Cost, sound to size ratio, smooth sound

Cons: At the price, none!

These speakers are great. The B6's replaced and older set of Polk bookshelf speakers in my office and they blew me away. I liked the B6's so much I moved them to the living room and I will add the C5 center-channel and B4's shortly. I'm powering these with a Yamaha receiver set at 6-ohms and they sound amazing. The soundstage is impressive for what are considered budget speakers. The B6's offer outstanding performance for the price and prove that Andrew Jones knows that good speakers don't have to cost thousands of dollars a piece. They aren't KEF Muon's but they also don't cost $225K each. The B6's completely exceeded my expectations while remaining within my budget. Get them while you can... once the Debut line is discontinued, it will be difficult to find a comparable speaker at this price point.

Pros: Excellent soundstage Great value Attractive, modern styling

Cons: The vinyl wrap is very delicate and can scratch easily, handle them gently.

Really Are the Best in Their Price Range

Robert from Valparaiso, FL on 8/21/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to eventually be my rear surround pair. However, I am using them up front for now, and they sound awesome. These speakers feel solid and deliver clear highs and a full bottom end that makes me wonder if I really even need a subwoofer. When I crank up the power to these speakers they handle the volume just fine. No muddiness or booming. These speakers sound good listening to music as well as cinematic playback. I highly recommend these speakers either as a front pair for a small room or as a fully supporting rear surround pair. Cannot go wrong for the price.

Pros: Affordable price. Versatile. Clear, full sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm going to start by saying that I have never been an "Audiophile", but after this maybe I will. I have however been a musician who records and masters his own material. I have used some middle to high end stuff in the studio and have sought that perfect imaging and separation. I use these in my home theater/stereo. It is hard to describe sound with words so please forgive me. These speakers give a very "clean" sound with very little "coloring". "Crisp" but not "brittle". GREAT clarity! All in all they are almost perfect. I like the boxiness (if there is such a word) of them. The finish is understated and classy. These are big bookshelves BTW, so make sure that you have room for these. The one and only complaint I have is that they sound "compressed" or "limited" meaning that loud bursts of sound seem to lose a small amount of crescendo and dynamics. This could easily be because they haven't been broken in and the stiff surrounds are causing the effect. Other than this, I am very happy and would buy these again! If the system would allow me to, I would give these 4.6 stars out of five

Clean, but really lacking on the high end. Bass response is good, but not pounding. The best way I could describe these speakers is "Smooth". I was going to use these as my main speakers, but now I think I'll use them in the den or playroom maybe and get something that has accurate highs.

Brilliant clarity, incredible value

Tom from Ivy, VA on 4/9/2017

Stunning speakers, and frankly, unbelievably good for the money. The clarity is breathtaking, the soundstage wide open, midranges simply perfect, and the bass is crisp. Vocals are brilliantly reproduced, and the sound is never fatiguing at all. I got these to play in the bedroom with a vintage 90 watt Marantz integrated amp, and they match with the Marantz extremely well. To see how good the ELACs are, I have a pair of Magnepans powered by high end 400-watt monoblocks in the living room, which I use for listening to jazz and early choral music. I love my Maggies, but now find myself auditioining new jazz and classical CDs on these instead. Yes, for the music I listen to, these are that good.

the speakers sound good in the bass and midrange and they lack in the highs for my ears. I tried the speaker with different receivers A vintage JVC jr-s301 and a Kenwood eleven G along with an onkyo 700 and played them for over 30 hrs. to make sure they had time to break in I have had them for 7 weeks. I will end up using them in my home theater set up emotive XPA 5 200 watt amp as back speakers. they will do well there. after reading all the review I felt I was missing something so I held on to them to long and now I am stuck with them kept trying them and boxing them and pulling them out and trying again. I have some good gear here and they just didn't cut it for me. I got these for my computer room ended up use def tech sm55 much better like night and day but for the price there not bad I just had a lot of vintage and newer speakers to compare them to. I also think the speaker looks cheep to me.

It's amazing how great sound comes out of these wonderful speakers. Great natural highs and powerful deep bass not commonly seen in speakers of this size. They has a very spacious sound with very good stage along with a completely natural sound. You get the best performance if you place them two or three feet outside the walls that surround it and around thirty inches above the floor. I can listen to them for hours without any fatigue. Definitely Mr Jones knows what he is doing!

Easy to set up . I am also using them with my Samsung Smart TV. Sound is quite clear for both music and tv. That includes using Pandora and Spotify thru the TV. I would recommend these speakers as a addition to any 2.1 channel system as they seem to be getting better with time. I also appreciate the staff at Crutchfield for making this a most enjoyable buying and now listening experience.

Have these set up with a Yamaha A-S301 amp, Marantz TT42 turntable, and Yamaha CD-S300. They sound superb rendering all the diverse music that we listen to, both at high and low volume settings. Have them placed on 36" stands which is higher than the designer recommends, but they sound fine. Nice build quality, even if the "aluminum" trim piece around the speaker cones is actually plastic. Highly recommended. These are not great speakers "for the low price." Rather, these are great speakers. Period. And, as an added bonus, they don't carry the far higher price that is typical of other speakers with comparable performance characteristics.

Pros: Great sound. Sharp, high-quality appearance in refined, elegant, brushed black. Solid construction.

Cons: Not available in antique cherry, English walnut, Brazilian rosewood, cheetah fur, or neon zebra stripe finishes. Striking bright yellow or copper finish for speaker cones not available.

Crsip/clean treble and punchy bass. Sound excellent out of the box! Make sure you use a good amp to drive this speaker since it is 6 Ohms. This is a hidden germ. and a keeper. I will keep this one and probably get the one-step-up ELAC Uni-Fi UB5.

Pros: Excellent sound Very good binding posts

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just two of these and our 750 sf great room and kitchen area (9 ft ceilings) is transformed. We connected these to an old but regal Akai receiver/amplifier. This is a new house and we wanted easy-to-install yet quality sound. After pricing wireless options and the entirely new system that would have been required, these became a bargain. At volumes that two senior citizens are comfortable with, we feel enrobed in our music. There is no tinny or washed-out in the output. I dance daily.

Pros: Easy breezy setup Adds new dimensions to our old favorites

Cons: On the large size for bookshelf placement Optional wood grain housing was not available

So far, I'm really enjoying the ELAC Debut B6 speakers and think they're a great value for the money. If I was to make any complaint about them, it would be that the low end response is not as prominent as I'm used to when I compare them to the speakers I'm replacing. Having said that, that opinion is likely influenced by user error since I have them hooked up to a brand new receiver and I haven't spent much time playing around with placement and settings.

These speakers hold up to my vintage Polk Audio Monitor 7,which back in 1980 Retailed for about $500.00. The sound is phenomenal very good bass, the upper bass is not boomy very tight and flat. Phenomenal detail and clear midrange great highs too!

Pros: 40 years later, there the Polks today!!

Cons: Are you kidding me!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers on the advice from a very knowledgeable staff member. I'm so glad I took their advice to purchase the ElacDebut B6. They are great! A lot of "umph" for a small speaker. As mentioned in some reviews, the bass is tremendous and the tweeter is crisp. I've had them about 1mth and have no cons. Also, they are priced generously.....nice speakers for not a ton of money. I would recommend these to anyone that has an apt, or looking to fill a living room in a house with great sound. You won't be disappointed!!

Pros: Compact size, very affordable, and a lot of great sound.

Cons: None

These are in my office... and are doing a fine job. Great sound for a pair of speakers this price. Reviews from the likes of Stereophile sum up my feelings quite well. When walking into the room after listening to my main speakers - B+W 801s - I am really impressed with how well the Elacs sound (for a fraction of the price). These will eventually belong in the classic hi-fi vaults, along with the likes of NAD-3020 amps and Rega Planar turntables.

Pros: Detailed Smooth Not fatiguing A true bargain at under $300 per pair.

Cons: Nothing I can think of at this price point.

The sound from these speakers is outstanding! It is true, placement is everything in order to get the best sound out of them. The price is hard to beat as well and the bass is better than I had expected.

I had read many other reviews online and pretty much knew that choosing the Elac's would not end up being a bad deal. I've been listening to these for over a week now and can confirm that the sound is amazingly good just as others have said. Bass does not seem booming at all; just deep and full. Mid to high frequency is very detailed. Vocals are excellent. These are very dynamic bookshelf speakers.

Pros: Great value! Full range Dynamic and detailed

You don't even need a separate bass cube. I have heard a $1,000.00 speakers that don't sound this good. I would recommend them to anyone. SMARTEST BUY EVER.

Overall a good speaker ... but so much of a speaker rating is personal preference! i think these speakers lack in the 'presence' category .. a lot of the sound that is important to me - the clarity and articulation in the 'mid-to-highs' - is lacking. The overall sonic tone seems to be somewhat dead and lacking presence and 'life'.

Pros:

Cons:

Wow! what a great sounding speaker

Scott from Evergreen, CO on 10/31/2016

The ELAC Debut B6 is a fantastic speaker, and would be a steal for twice the money!, I have them powered by a good amp and pre-amp, though they are the most sensitive of the Debut line, they still require a pretty strong amplifier. They look great and have enough bottom end that you could get away without a sub-woofer, (depending on the room). I feel very lucky, nice that you can still find a great value today! I was aware that they were kind of the talk of the speaker world, now I hear why.

Pros: great imaging, a dynamic speaker

Cons: I feel it needs a fairly strong amp

Amazing value, fantastic speaker!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The ELAC Debut B6 has gotten great reviews from all over the planet, and now I can see why. I received mine and for the price,(or for twice the price), these are amazing speakers. I play them using a quality pre-amplifier and amplifier, and the results are simply incredible, my sub-woofer is barely working and I could disconnect it and still be happy. If anyone is dissatisfied, I recommend they get a good amp, then look at they're receipt, because for a bookshelf/stand speaker it doesn't get much better.

I bought these to replace my 30 year old Mission 707s. I didn't want to break the bank or add a subwoofer. The specifications and previous reviews suggested these speakers would do the trick. I matched them up with a Yamaha A-S301 Integrated Amplifier and could not be anymore pleased.

Pros: Wonderful sound, excellent quality, and great value

ELAC B6 Honest Review

Robert W from Jensen Beach, FL on 8/30/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Considering the high praise these speakers have been getting from all corners of the internet and hi-fi world, I had to see for myself if they truly were the holy grail of affordable bookshelf speakers. Without a doubt, they are a great pair of well made and well designed speakers. Here is the real scoop on how these speakers sound, and no previous reviews of the vast amount I've read adequately convey what I'm about to delve into on these. They sound character of these speakers is the relative sonic equivalent of cranking up the bass knob on your amp or receiver about 1/8-1/4 turn up, while cranking the treble knob about 1/8-1/4 turn down. It's really that simple. Calling the speakers warm would be too kind to describe their real character. A good comparison would be to describe them as the Beats Headphones of current bookshelf speakers. The Beats current headphones are really great and balanced sounding, except for the fact that their bass is way too accentuated. Same story with these ELACs, but even the highs couldn't be described as extended, open or revealing. Just rolled off. Then end result, for me, was less than satisfying and left me wondering why no one else in review-land is echoing this sentiment quite as strongly. If your speaker preferences lean toward warm, robust mid-bass and restrained highs, these may sound perfect for you. For me, just plain unbalanced.

Pros: Well made. Highly affordable. Good looking. Stellar reviews beyond what they deserve. Other than my reservations, a very natural and decent set of speakers.

Cons: Mid-bass is so robust that the tweeters can't compete, and their natural roll-off just makes the speakers too warm for impactful listening. I wanted to love these speakers per all previous reviews, but they just aren't balanced across the entire listenable range.

These speakers are exceptional for the price...

George from Humacao, PR on 7/17/2016

I'll be getting the ELAC's soon but I have a friend that has a pair and he came over and we hooked them up to my NAD 304 (35watts) integrated amp and were we surprised. These little gems took my NAD to new heights. The sound was brilliant, clear, bass filling, sounded like live music right in front of us was taking place and that was just magical. We had to play with the distance placement from the back wall and when set at about 3 feet was they shined. We placed them on 32 inch stands which I use with my old pair of 1980 Bose speakers. I also have a pair PSB Alpha's and the ELAC's out perform them as well. I can't think of any speaker in the $300 to $400 range that could out perform the ELAC's B6. They are that good. Of course the sound quality will depend what amp you use and their placement and the room size. I am getting my ELAC's in a few weeks and I'm glad my friend came over so I could experience how they perform. He's also glad for he's considering searching for a vintage NAD amp so we both benefited from the experiment. If you ask me, get the ELAC's, no doubt in my mind that they are excellent for your money.... enjoy...

Pros: For the price you won't find anything better unless you spend 2 to 3 times the $$$... Deep bass from a small box... clear sound and very good sound stage...

Cons: You might have to play with room placement and distance from back wall...

Exeptional speakers, especially for the price

JP from Boone, NC on 7/15/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I am very pleased with these speakers and would buy them again. For the price I would say they deserve 5 stars. Exceptional bass, however, they can sound boomy if they are placed too close to the wall. If placed well, the bass is very nice. Highs are good. 90% of the time the speakers sound great, much better than what you would expect for the price. Occasionally though they are missing substance in the mid-range and can sound a little hollow or imbalanced. I have always loved the sound of my 1980s vintage Mission speakers, they do a better job with the mids and highs, but the Elacs are much better with the bass frequencies.

Pros: I think you can't go wrong with these speakers for the price. They are exceptional 90% of the time. Bass is amazing for the size.

Cons: Watch placement, bass gets boomy if too close to wall. Sometimes mids seem hollow.

I first heard these as Pioneer Elite speakers, $800/pair. They were very good, but I liked my Martin Logan Motion 15's better for $850/pair. The designer left Pioneer and started Elac, price dropped to $280/pair. Wow, these are great speakers, The Best under $800/pair you can find, period. I put them on stands 30", 3 feet from the wall, and used a Martin Logan 500 subwoofer. Spectacular sound for $950. I have Audioquest Type 4 cables, $400/pair, but they make these speakers sound better than the majority of $1000 speakers. Next month I'll add a Sony 4K 700D, and my daughters will have a superb home theatre of their own. The most bang for your buck, period!

Pros: Tremendous Value, Accurate sound, amazing.

Steve M from PA on 7/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I want to preface by mentioning that I'm no expert or wanna be expert. I buy a pair of speakers once every 10 years or more. But these sounded flat as a board (*in MY room) with my favorite references of live music. I kept going back to a few things I love that have a lot of "room" in the mix (Dead 7/17/89 is an example) and there was just no "sparkle". I also did a few back to back comparisons with some other models a friend brought over and I decided these were going back. The bass output was also an issue. With the way my room is configured, I couldn't get them more than 2 feet away from the wall behind them, and 14 inches away from the walls on their sides.

Pros: Look very nice with the covers off. Lots of bass.

Cons: I didn't feel the "magic". They were quite dull in the space I wanted to use them in.

I was ready to buy B&W 685 S2 speakers plus stands for 850 dollars. When I found out that Cruthfield was carrying the little Elacs, I decided to drive up to hear them. The 685's had better highs, the B6's better bass, mids were a wash. I pretty much felt performance wise it was a draw. But, 279 vs 700 plus stands was a total kill by the Elacs. Using them with a Yamaha as801 and its a killer little system. Only drawback is that if you drive them with an inexpensive AVR, you will get what you paid for. The Elacs need a good amp to shine. My Yamaha is a good match and I 've heard the Rogue Sphinx and the Peachtree amps work will too. They need space too, hang them on a wall and they will boom. 24 inch stands and at least two feet from the rear wall, a solid amp, and you will get great sound.

Pros: Amazing bass for a small bookshelf Very good dynamics, they will play loudly without breaking up Extremely neutral for such an inexpensive product

Cons: Could have a little more air up top. Rear port makes them a little more placement sensitive than the average budget product Comparatively priced amps most likely will leave you underwhelmed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first time I had heard of these speakers was a review on cnet.com by Steve Guttenberg. I have always had confidence in his audio reviews. After viewing further reviews on other sites I purchased a pair for my granddaughter's first sound system. After installing them and hearing them I was dumbfounded. They are phenomenal. The purity and power is unmatched in any speaker I have heard under $1000. I was in love! I had to immediately find a spot in my house for a pair. I already had Infinity towers on my main system so I purchased a receiver for my office and ordered another pair for myself. It was just one of those things... I had to have a pair for myself. There is really nothing not to absolutely love about these little powerhouses. So clean and pure throughout the frequency range. They like a lot of power but sound just as good with minimal power. Bass is unbelievable and clean. You do not need a subwoofer with the B6 unless you like overly extended bass. I am sitting in my office listening to them with a smile on my face as I write this review. I guarantee you will love these babies! Best money at this price ever spent. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: -Reproduction is awesome at low volumes or at high volumes with no noticeable distortion or stress. -Excellent quality build. -Attractive appearance. -Clear, sharp, accurate reproduction. -Phenomenal price point. -Designed by Andrew Jones.

Robert from Austin, TX on 6/6/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Due to the setup of my living room, I do not have the ability to utilize a floor standing speaker, but I didn't want to be forever stuck with 4-5" drivers for my front speakers. I have a 5.1 setup with a nice sub for deep bass, but I wanted something to add a little more mid-range to my overall setup, and the B6s have done just that. Due to space availability, my sub is located behind me. This created a listening environment that seemed to have a lot of low bass behind me, and a lot of high treble in front of me. The B6 have helped blend the overall sound field together. They remain clear at low volumes as well as when played at higher volumes, although I have not turned them up to neighbor complaining levels... yet. Overall, I have been very pleased with my purchase.

Pros: Great sound. Great price.

Cons: The larger size and rear port may limit your placement options.

Features

Two-Way Driver Design: The Elac Debut B6 bookshelf loudspeaker features a two-way driver design with a 1" tweeter, one 6.5" woofer, and a 3,000Hz crossover. Both the tweeter and woofer have been custom designed by Andrew Jones to deliver an exceptional audio experience that can't be delivered with typical off-the-shelf parts

  • Cloth Dome Tweeter w/ Wave Guide: The Elac Debut B6 features a 1" cloth dome tweeter with a custom-designed waveguide with a deep spheroid profile. This waveguide design is utilized to improve directivity control and shield the tweeter from cabinet diffraction.
  • Woven-Aramid Fiber Woofer: The bookshelf speaker features a single 6.5" woven aramid-fiber cone woofer with rubber surround, oversized magnet, and vented pole piece. Woven aramid fiber offers a superior stiffness-to-weight ratio and damping over common polypropylene or paper cones. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended frequency response.
  • Custom Crossover: A custom seven-element crossover (3,000Hz) with audio-grade components is implemented to ensure smooth transition between the tweeter and woofer.

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The Elac Debut B6 bookshelf loudspeaker uses a bass reflex cabinet with a rear-firing flared port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The cabinet is made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) to strengthen and stiffen the cabinet, helping minimize unwanted vibrations that can discolor music or movie content. The MDF outer walls of the cabinet are covered with a textured vinyl black finish. A detachable cloth grille is included.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Elac Debut B6 bookshelf loudspeaker is fitted with a set of 5-way binding-post terminals which will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Applications: The Elac Debut B6 bookshelf loudspeaker can be used in a 2ch stereo application, or used as your front speakers and/or rear surround speakers in a multichannel home theater application.

  • 2Ch Stereo or Front Speaker Placement:  For optimum stereo imaging, place the speakers so that an equilateral triangle is created between the speakers your main listening position. You can also angle ("toe in") the speakers towards the listening position to gain a more focused central image.
  • Rear Surround Placement: In a 5.1channel surround setup, avoid placing the speakers forward of your listening position. The speakers should be spread apart wider than the front speakers. In addition, try to elevate the speakers to the same height or slightly higher as the front speakers for the most enveloping soundfield.
Note: In either application, the speakers should be placed 1' to 2' away from boundaries such as wall and corners. Close proximity to a side or rear wall will enhance bass performance, but being too close may result in bass that is unnatural.

Mounting Options: The Elac Debut B6 bookshelf loudspeaker can simply be placed on a flat surface; like a table-top, stand, or shelf. The bookshelf speaker does not offer any wall-mount options.

Elac Debut Series: The Elac Debut series family of loudspeakers consists of two bookshelf speakers, two floorstanding speaker, a center-channel speaker, a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker, and two powered subs.

Stereophile component of the year [ Matthew  Dec 02, 2016 ]
The price was a priority , but also the reviews semm to indicate that these are exceptional . I wanted small speakers for my living room and after shopping on line I found these. I have not shopped for speakers in over 25 yrs. , so I really didn't know what was out there. [ Tom  Nov 15, 2016 ]
The Wirecutter and Stereophile rave about these as audiophile speakers and at this price I think that is the best I can do to fill my work van with sound. Pairing with a Pioneer DEH-80PRS in a Transit Connect van. Amplifier to come later. [ Charles  Sep 29, 2016 ]
The wirecutter recommended it. [ Devin  Sep 09, 2016 ]

I am using the NAD D 3020 DAC AMP - only rated at 30 watts per channel but has plenty of power to drive the Elacs! The NAD amp has Bluetooth as well. [ John  Dec 31, 2016 ]
I believe these speakers are designed to be driven with a mid to high power amplifier. (i.e. 60 plus watts per channel) Also, keep in mind they are 6 ohms speakers. There may be other options suited for your application. I recommend talking with a Crutchfield rep. They're awesome! Good luck. [ Robert  Dec 26, 2016 ]
I'm running an Onkyo amp. I can't help you with the Bluetooth amp, [ Brian  Dec 18, 2016 ]
I'm playing mine through a denon act-1613 receiver , sounds great ,can't speak for Bluetooth use but amp should have ample power to drive then max watts end 140 [ Bubbainc  Dec 17, 2016 ]
