Audiophile sound made affordable and friendly

ELAC's EA101EQ-G integrated amplifier has everything you need to set up a budget-friendly audiophile sound system. An innovative control app lets you fine-tune the sound to near perfection. This amp makes a great choice for a stereo system devoted to music. Built-in Bluetooth with aptX® lets you stream any songs you listen to on your phone or tablet with near-CD sound quality.

Or hook it up to your TV for clear, spacious sound from your favorite movies and shows. Connect a good pair of speakers and a subwoofer, and you'll have a system that way outperforms most sound bars.

A clever control app

ELAC's app for iOS® and Android® has some unique features you won't find on other control apps. You can use it to rename each input to match your connected source. The revised name appears both in the app and on the EA101EQ-G's front-panel display. The app's remote learning function lets you teach the amp to respond to your favorite IR remote control. The app also has a powerful calibration feature to dial in the right sound for your speakers and space.

Room calibration done right

One of the biggest challenges of two-channel audio is the proper integration of the subwoofer with the main speakers. Typical room correction systems don't take into account the design limitations of connected subwoofers or speakers. ELAC's ABC (Auto Blend & Calibrate) technology lets you use the app to measure the near-field response of your main speakers and subwoofer, to pinpoint the best crossover frequency for the subwoofer. Room Calibration optimizes your system for your listening position and environment.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is very unique product with Astonishing life like vocals, superb imaging, great Bass management and Dolby digital 2.1 decode. Basically i took advantage of return policy of various online retailers and auditioned NAD 368, Outlaw RR 2160 and Elac Amp with Elac UB 5 bookshelf speakers and JBL AREANA 100p sub woofer. Placed in triangle shape with 9 to 10 feet apart. Used Monster XP speaker cable. My primary source was apple music and movies via apple tv with optical cable. Initially i grabbed UB5's (350) and Elac Amp (550 )on sale. This Elac combo sounds so good i started listening my entire music collection from 1995's . Astonishing life like vocals with wider sound stage, no ear fatigue, believe me in one stretch i listened full day from morning 9 am to 8 pm with very little breaks. For me movies also equally impotent as music. with dolby digital 2.1 decode capability it gives deep movie bass. i did not feel i missed center channel. With NAD 368, mids are very good with little more details over elac amp. But elac shines with Astonishing life like vocals, superb imaging however elac Amp has sweet spot it will sound so good between 50 to 65 volume levels. Below 50 it misses little details and above 65 vocals and highs edges are little harsh. With NAD it is impossible to do bass management. Over Outlaw rr2160 after while i got ear fatigue that's it. i did not take much time to decide to return outlaw rr 2160. it sounded more musical with thin vocals, less imaging

Pros: Finally, i choose Elac Amp over NAD 368 and Outlaw however Elac amp issues can be tolerable with its great life like vocals, wider imaging, Superb bass management with dolby digital 2.1 decoding. At the sale price no one can close to this.

Cons: 1) Gives huge sub woofer bang when i changed input source. After contacting elac costumer service (was Great) i understood, this is basically due to dolby digital contents being played in one of the optical input. if you are using only for Music, PCM audio for movies, you no need to bother about this. 2) Speaker noise when powering off the amp (even with auto power off) - There were other issues which I did not listed, but most of them resolved after firmware update with great Elac cus

Good Concept, Poor Execution

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Rarely do I give online reviews for products, but I felt compelled to do so here. Yes, the Element is a good product on paper; however, when spending a lot of dollars, one expects a certain level of build quality. In this respect, Elac completely failed. First order: The top of the unit was warped and caved in, suggesting something went awry at the factory. The rubber padding was also peeling off. This is due to the fact that they, of course, used PLASTIC in places where they should have used metal -- including the top of the unit and the front dial. Since this unit gets pretty hot under operation, I suspect this will happen to other units over the course of time. I sent it back for a replacement (which Crutchfield did flawlessly) and got a second unit. The second unit's volume knob behaved erratically, with large jumps in volume at random places on the dial. This makes it impossible to use the device with any semblance of accuracy. Not acceptable for what I paid. How was the sound? Very good. Features? Excellent. Too good to be true? Yes. Overall, this product left me disappointed. Poor build execution on an otherwise good concept.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hate when there is not enough reviews on a product you may be wanting to try but you have to take one for the team and try it ..I am building a hi quality 2.1 Setup for my listening pleasure and love of all music --well here it is I purchased on 3-19-17 a pair of ELAC UNI-FI UF5 speakers and and SVS sub SB-2000 .. I was really on the fence about a reciever or a integrated amp either way it was going to be Either a Marantz 5011 -Or Yamaha A s801 integrated amp and I decided to use my 2012 MacBook Pro Retina laptop with a 3.5 mm toslink cable as my streaming media player as the head phone port is also a optical out and any of the good amps or recievers have Good Dacs in them .so I bought the Elac Element praying it would have enough Juice for these hard to Drive 4ohm Elacs .. so everything arrives at my house yesterday but the Elac amp which is a Day Late shipping..So I'm so impatient I go to a local store and buy a Marantz 5011 .. I figured well if nothing more a good comparison and I would choose the better one ..so all Tuesday evening from 630pm to 1am I set up and dialed in Marantz 5011 ..I'm impressed wow ,,, so now today ups drops off ELAC ELEMENT integrated amp I set it up do the quick easy auto tune calibration and I Sit back and I'm like HOLY S**T Batman !!! I'm so shocked at the audiophile sound quality and Clean power of this Integrated Amp !! Words can't express how unbelievably good it sound and really shocked at the power it produces . 15x30 ITs A keeper !

Pros: Small good DAC ,Big Clean power pushes 4 ohm Elac uni-fi UF5 Towers with ease.sound quality Like NAD 368 and more power ,Bluetooth 2 optical in ,LFE out ,software is excellent and Easy and gives you all the controls you need , Great Prduct -Elac is a sleeping Giant that's now Awake !

Nice Integrated Amp

Scot from NC on 2/14/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Impressed with out-of-the-box performance. All I did was pair it to my iphone and started playing music. I haven't even run the DSP yet to calibrate it. I did it quickly by ear. I am much more impressed with this integrated amp over the Bluesound Powernode2. The BASH amp technology fares much better than just class D in my opinion. The listening material turned to mush at higher volumes on the Powernode2 but, that is not the case here. The music stays in tact when the volume goes up. The highs are not smashed together and thin like on the Powernode2. The highs also aren't as "hissy" either. This amp is closer to a true Class A or A/B amp. I'm also satisfied with the power output into 8ohm Dynaudio Excite X-14's and a Martin Logan sub. I would like to switch out Excites for a full tower speaker to compare the difference. This amp fares well and is ideal for a small music system. If you're coming from a high dollar tube amp or vintage high-end amp, there is going to be a "listening" curve. The Element lacks some warmth compared to tubes and lacks a little punch compared to straight Class A or A/B power but, is still a better choice over the Class D Powernode2. The sound stage and detail is much nicer than the Powernode2. Keep in mind this integrated amp does not have Ethernet or WiFi capability. Another complaint is the power cord - it's fairly short and is not a standard IEC cord which renders my high dollar power cord useless. Overall, I am happy with this purchase.

Pros: Easy set-up, Good power output for the money, Nice looking esthetics, Small footprint

Cons: Fairly short power cord,

Cons:

Excellent sound and easy hook up.

Michael from Maggie Valley, NC on 12/15/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received this amp yesterday. Great things really do come in small boxes. This amp was basically a plug and play. While there is an app to customize the amp to your room it sounds great as is . I hooked it up the my Polk LSI bookshelf speakers and the sub woofer input to one of my Polk LSI floor speakers. I love its same size and its builtin Dolby conversion. I would clarify with Crutchfield the warranty. The owner's manual say one year, Crutchfield says three years.

Pros: Small size, can use an app to customize the amp to your room and control all of its functions and builtin Dolby conversion.

Cons: Would recommend the use of banana plugs to connect the speaker wires to my amp. Any wire 16 gauge for greater is hard to feed through the hold in the speaker posts. Also, you will have to use single banana plugs, not the double size as the later will not fit

Features

BASH Digital Fidelity Tracking Amplifier: At the heart of the ELAC EA101EQ-G stereo integrated amplifier is a brand new BASH Tracking Amplifier capable of delivering 40W per channel into 8 speakers and 80W per channel into 4 speakers. This new amplifier uses a modulated switched mode power supply joined to a conventional class AB amplifier. Switching at more than 400,000x per second, the supply tracks the incoming audio signal to ensure that the Class AB amplifier gets only the voltage necessary (with a little headroom) to cope with today's dynamic movie and music content, thus maximizing the efficiency and potential of the amplifier.

  • Power Output Continuous:
    • 8Ω: 40 watts 2 channels @ 1kHz (0.3% THD)
    • 4Ω: 80 watts x 2 channels @ 1kHz (0.7% THD)
    • 2Ω: 70 watts x 2channels @ 1kHz
  • Power Output Burst:
    • 8Ω: 65 watts 2 channels @ 1kHz
    • 4Ω: 120 watts x 2 channels @ 1kHz
    • 2Ω: 170 watts x 2channels @ 1kHz

ABC Technology (Auto Blend & Calibrate): The companion iOS and Android app (see EA101EQ-G App section below for more details) measures the near-field response of main speakers and subwoofer, then pinpoints the subwoofer's optimal crossover frequency. Auto Blend results in the perfect integration of clean, articulate bass. Room Calibration precisely tailors your system for flattest frequency response across the audio spectrum, optimized for your listening position and environment.

Bluetooth 4.0 w/ aptX: The ELAC integrated amplifier features built-in Bluetooth 4.0 w/ aptX. You'll be able to stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth source device (such as an Apple iOS device Android OS smartphone/tablet, Windows PC or Mac laptop) to the ELAC integrated amp. You can pair up to two devices to the ELAC EA101EQ-G. However, only one can be used for music playback at a time.

  • SBC & aptX Codecs: In addition to the standard SBC codec, the EA101EQ-G amplifier supports aptX for wireless "CD-quality" music streaming from compatible Android OS 4.0+ devices and other Bluetooth source device (Apple iOS devices are not compatible with aptX).
  • Basic Control: You can control basic playback functions like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track from the included IR remote. Advanced music navigation and song/artist/album info display will still be done from your Bluetooth source device.
Note: The ELAC EA101EQ-G does not support Bluetooth hands-free phone calls.

Asynchronous USB-B Input: The EA101EQ-G features an asynchronous USB-B 2.0 input for connection to your Windows PC or Mac computer, so you can play your digital music library through the ELAC integrated amplifier. The integrated amp's asynchronous USB-B port offers support of 2ch PCM audio file up to 24-bit/192kHz. Your computer's inferior DAC and clock are bypassed for the EA101EQ-G's high-performance 24-bit/192kHz DAC and high-precision clock, eliminating timing errors and jitter while delivering a more natural, detailed, and accurate sound.

Note: There is also a rear-panel USB-A port that is used only for updating the integrated amplifier's firmware.

Dual Analog Inputs: The ELAC integrated amp is equipped with two stereo RCA inputs for connection of analog audio source devices. There is no Phono input (a phono-preamp or turntable with built-in phono preamp is required).

Three Digital Inputs: The ELAC EA101EQ-G is outfitted with two optical (toslink) digital inputs and one coaxial (RCA) digital input for connection of a digital audio source, like your TV, Blu-ray player, CD player, or network player. All three digital inputs are capable of supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz 2ch PCM audio, as well as Dolby Digital 2.1.

Note: Due to the differences in optical transmitters and optical cable quality/length, 192kHz is not guaranteed on the integrated amp's optical digital inputs.

Binding Post Speaker Terminals: The ELAC integrated amplifier is fitted with 5-way binding post speaker terminals to connect a pair of speakers. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 14AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Subwoofer Output: The ELAC EA101EQ-G offers a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connection of a powered sub.

Headphone Output: The EA101EQ-G features a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphones. The integrated amp's speaker outputs will mute automatically when headphones are connected. The amp's speaker outputs will resume when headphones are disconnected.

Remote Control: The included IR remote provides wireless operation of the ELAC EA101EQ-G amplifier. It offers Power, Source Selection, Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, & Previous/Next Track control. Using ELAC's free iOS or Android app you can  even teach the integrated amplifier to respond to other IR remote controls (see EA101EQ-G App below for more details).

EA101EQ-G App (for iOS & Android): The EA101EQ-G App is a setup application for Apple iOS (coming soon) and Android OS 4.4+ that connects to the amp via Bluetooth Low Energy. Using the app on your compatible Apple iOS or Android device, you can setup the ELAC amplifier from the palm of your hand with ease.  App setup features include - source select, master volume, offset (individual source) volume, source naming, bass/treble, sub volume, balance, Auto Blend, IR remote learning, and screen brightness. The app will open to the Master Volume screen when initially launched.

  • Master Volume: The Master Volume slider sets the amplifier output volume. It affects the output to the speakers and sub (if used), and headphones if connected.
  • Offset Volume: The Offset Volume slider sets the output of each connected source relative to the other sources. This allows adjusting the source levels so when switching from one source to another, one won't be very loud and another very soft.
  • Input Names: Each of the inputs can be renamed to indicate the actual connected source. The revised name will appear in the app and on the integrated amplifier's front-panel display.
  • Bass & Treble: You can adjust the integrated amp's Bass & Treble from -12 to +12 dB.
  • Speaker Balance: Speaker Balance adjusts the relative volume of the left and right speakers. Use this control to adjust the stereo sound from the speakers if they are unevenly placed relative to the listening position. Each control can be adjusted +/-100 with 0 being center.
  • Remote Learning:

Front-Panel Display: The ELAC EA101EQ-G integrated amp features a front-panel OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescence) display to indicate source selection and volume level. You can even create a custom name for each input that will display on the front-panel. The front-panel display does not indicate a music source's song/artist/album information. You can adjust the screen brightness level from 1 to 100 using the EA101EQ-G App for Apple iOS and Android OS.

Placement: You can locate the EA101EQ-G on a stable, flat surface such as a shelf or table top. Make sure to provide enough space around the amplifier for the free flow of air, and do no block any of the vents on the bottom, sides or top; particularly if the amp is going to be located in a cabinet or closet.

Protection Circuitry: If the integrated amplifier's speaker outputs sense a short, the amp will enter protect mode and "Protect" will appear in the front-panel display. In protect mode, the amplifier will be shut down. To reset the amp, power cycle the amplifier (unplug it from the wall AC outlet jack for 5 seconds and then plug it back in).

Firmware Updateable: To upgrade the EA101EQ-G with the latest firmware, simply download the firmware update from ELAC's website to your computer. Then, copy the firmware to the root directory of a thumbdrive and insert the thumbdrive into the unit's rear-panel USB-A port. Lastly, unplug the power, hold down the Reset button while plugging the power back in and the firmware update process begins.

Why did you buy this?

Superb quality of ELAC speakers, plus positive reviews at CNET and What HiFi. [ TOM  Mar 19, 2018 ]
Different reviews of excellence, fechers & internal DAC, ETC,ETC,& modest price !!! Benito del Cueto. [ Beni  Apr 06, 2017 ]
Room correction software and full sub woofer control. [ scott  Feb 09, 2017 ]
I purchased this because the feature set almost perfectly matched up with my needs. Built in bluetooth, 2 analog inputs, subwoofer output, moderate power, and compact size. Additionally, I am intrigued by the automatic crossover point selection and blending of the subwoofer via a smart phone application. On paper the only thing that would make it more perfect would be a preamp out. I had also been considering the PS Audio Sprout but was afraid it would be underpowered. [ Michael  Dec 23, 2016 ]
