Overview

Our take on the Marshall Woburn

Make no mistake. The Marshall Woburn is not a small guitar amp. Rather, it's a big powerful Bluetooth speaker with an impressively big sound. The confusion's understandable. The Woburn features Marshall's script logo on a woven speaker grille. The vinyl-covered cabinet has an inset brushed-brass control panel with three smooth-motion knobs and a toggle power switch. But really, the Woburn's for streaming music wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet and playing it loud.

This thing looks and sounds incredible. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was nervous about spending this much on a bt speaker, but this sounds amazing from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.

I purchased the Stanmore when Marshall first released this line a few years ago and loved it. Unfortunately there was a mechanical failure and I wound up buying the Polk Woodbourne at a great price. That speaker has since failed so I went back to scouring wireless speakers. Today I did some testing at my local Crutchfield store and compared the Woburn to the Zeppelin and the Deep Blue 2. Let me tell you, neither the Zeppelin nor the Deep Blue had the warmth. By warmth I am not talking about DSP manufactured sound. I mean true to the artist sound replication with real heart and soul. You have to hear it to believe it. Had my eye on the Woburn for years now and though I loved my Stanmore the Woburn is just another level. Wonderful!! I don't regret a note I hear. I have tested the Airplay vs Bluetooth playback and unlike the Stanmore or the Woodbourne the Woburn seems to show no significant sound degradation going from Airplay to Bluetooth. Using it with an Echo Dot (for Bluetooth) and man is it easy and so rewarding. @Stuart, there is a power standby switch on the back of the unit which might suit your needs. By the way going to Crutchfield and having freedom to test these with no sales pressure. I will continue to support Crutchfield when I can!

Pros: Full and true bass response. Range is wonderful, going from Dire Straits to Steppenwolf you get it all. Connection options are plentiful. Much easier going from sources like Airplay/Bluetooth is a button push not a software ordeal like on the Zeppelin. Meaningful treble and bass knobs! Clean, free sound at any volume level.

Cons: Airplay is not on board, you have to use the optical in with Apple TV. But hey, it HAS an optical in and honestly the Bluetooth representation is so close, Airplay may not even be a concern.

Pros: It looks like a Marshall, It sounds like a Marshall and It Is A Marshall!

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are awesome. I purchased one for myself last year on BF and my college aged kids loved it and wanted one for themselves so they each got one heck of a Christmas present his year. They have an amazing full, richness to them with crisp highs. The Bluetooth feature makes it convenient to change songs from your favorite listen chair too.

Pros: SOUND, SOUND, SOUND, OLD SCHOOL LOOKS

Cons: NONE

Worth every penny!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't know what to expect all I knew was that the $350 Bose was not cutting it. Before opening the box, I was stunned by the heavy weight. Opening the box to find a well packed beast. The cabinet is a masterpiece; solid construction & zero resonance when tapping on it. Exterior is clean, grill looks like it was made for the stage and control panel is resessed into the top boasting the thickness of the cabinet. Power on and just WOW! This IS a beast - HUGE room filling sound. Bass & treble controls are very smooth and sound is responsive to small adjustments. IT'S LOUD but more than just LOUD, the sound is super clean at any volume level. So it cost more; so what - impressive design and the audio engineers got this one right so I can overlook the price for the REAL value. Super sharp looks, ear ringing - chest thumping clear sound. WELL DONE MARSHALL!

Pros: An audio heavyweight! EXPLOSIVE volume with amazing dynamic range. Classic Marshall looks.

Cons: Although I would not consider this a portable, I'll be carrying it with me on vacation road trips. A top handle or "D" rings for a shoulder strap would be a plus.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this solely for the purpose of being able to crank it up loud to play electric guitar to and it serves it's purpose well. It's really pumps out the volume. I also purchased the Deep Blue at the same time for comparison and the Woburn ended up easily winning the volume contest hands down. Now as far as quality of sound, ranges, etc., I can't really comment on which one is better as frankly that wasn't what I was purchasing it for.

Pros:

Cons:

Crisp and powerful sound!

Shaolin1 from Rockville, MD on 7/31/2016

This speaker really blows away the competition with crisp sound that doesn't buckle when put to the test. Even at its loudest the bass stays rich and the treble crisp. nothing else at this price range comes even close!

Pros: Looks really good and really compact considering its sound quality

Cons: Wish it had an interna/chargeable power source. With the new compact lithium batteries, why not!?

Top Shelf and the Bottom Drawer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great highs and lows, looks good too, classic Marshal!

Pros: Tried many competitive products, this unit is powerful offering a full range of sound even 'those big bass notes'. Take it from a real bass player who can't help but listen to the bass line...you won't be disappointed!

Cons: None... Would be even better if you could add another cabinet to it!

There are also Source/Wake & Pair push-button controls, as well as an On/Off toggle switch.

AC Power: The Marshall Woburn Bluetooth speaker operates off of standard household current via its internal AC power supply and detachable 6' AC power cord.
