As far as 4 inch 2-way auto speakers go, these are definitely premium priced - but they are also clearly premium quality. I have an 'original owner' low mileage E36 M3 that is undergoing an extensive 'renewal' as it reaches its 20th birthday, and among the areas undergoing a bit of upgrade are the speakers - the OEM are not so hot. The options for the rear deck are not vast, unless you want to start hacking at the deck to accommodate speakers larger than the 4 inchers that are stock for the car. After looking hither and yon for 4 inch options, these rose to the top. I'm not sorry I sprang for them. The sound, even using the OEM head and trunk mounted 6 disc CD changer, is vastly improved. Of course there is no deep bass coming from these small deck speakers (but there are slightly larger drivers up front in the car) .Howeer, they handle the low end cleanly. The high end is vibrant and crisp. But be warned: I took these to my BMW dealer and asked them to install while I was having some extensive mechanical work done, and figured that installation would be a minor operation. They told me it took quite a bit of tinkering to get these to fit the original rear deck speaker enclosures. From what they said, if i had been charged the usual shop rate for the installation, it would have equaled or exceeded the cost of the speakers themselves - fortunately, I'm a bit of a regular there and they did this for a de minimis charge. These aren't simply a 'drop in' replacement.
Pros: Excellent build quality, crisp clean highs and good handling of the mid-bass for their small size.
Cons: Installation not necessarily as simple as Crutchfield describes, at least not in an E36 BMW rear deck. I might have docked the speakers a star for this, but my review addresses the product itself, not compatability issues.
