I love it when using technology is easy, and while I've been pleased with all the aftermarket backup camera options available, I haven't been so crazy about the installation necessary to integrate one into my car. Pearl's RearVision wireless rear-vision and alert system changes everything. Seriously. Installation is quick (really quick), just about anyone can do it, and there are no wires to mess with or holes to drill. And best of all, you don't need to add a monitor to your dash — the RearVision system streams video of what's behind you to your smartphone. This system's so great it was awarded "Best New Product" at the most recent SEMA show.
Affix the included universal camera bracket over your license plate. It supplies solar power to the dual built-in HD cameras and it's made of weatherproof aluminum for a long life in the elements. The RearVision system includes an all-essential car adapter that plugs into your vehicle's OBD port, which is under the dash in most vehicles. A magnetic phone mount is also included for perfect screen placement on your dash.
Download the free Pearl App to your Android™ or iPhone® for complete control of the RearVision system. As soon as you open the app, the adapter transmits the wireless video signal from the backup cameras to your phone. The app is not triggered by shifting your vehicle in reverse, so you'll need to be sure to open the Pearl App before backing up.
Pearl gives you everything you need for a quick and simple installation.
Pearl gives you everything you need for a quick and simple installation. The RearVision's two HD cameras stream crisp video to your smartphone. One camera is optimized for night vision and provides an excellent picture, even in the lowest light. Using the Pearl App on your phone, the RearVision uses a two-stage proximity alert system to warn you visually and audibly if you're getting too close to an obstacle.
When your phone is in portrait mode, you'll see two views of what's behind you: wide and super-wide. The Pearl App lets you use your touchscreen to pan your super-wide view for a targeted picture of the area behind your vehicle. When your phone is in landscape mode, you'll gain a fullscreen super-wide view. Once you've finished backing up and achieved 10 MPH driving forward, you can program the Pearl App to automatically launch the app of your choice like Google Maps™ or Spotify® to make your drive go more smoothly.
Note: Audi, Volvo, 2011-up Volkswagen Jetta, and 2007-up Jeep Wrangler vehicles will require a free adapter kit for mounting the RearVision license plate bracket. Make sure you identify your vehicle so we can include the adapter if needed.
Excellent video and is very cool it can look left, right, up and down. Also quality of build is very high. I would definitely recommend!

I have the Pearl rear Camera for about a year now. The unit will no longer link with my Iphone. I see it on Blue tooth. But the plate will not link. Can you help and is there a number for tech support? Thanks,
Cons:Crutchfield response on 5/29/2018 If you purchased this product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. If you purchased it elsewhere, you can contact Pearl Tech Support at 978-645-6451 for further information about the 3-year warranty on this rear-view camera.
The hardware of this product seemed to be top drawer. The problem I found was in the software. I could enter my truck and open my phone select pearl app and see the revision camera. Great! AT destination phone had gone to sleep and app had closed. So to use the revision camera I had to open phone relaunch app. Also, the app seemed to drain my phone battery and thing plugged into the truck data port did drain truck batteries. I contacted the parent company that had bought Pearl Vision company. After three calls the operator listened to my concerns and said a tech rep would call me the following day. No call ever came. Bottom line hardware is awesome but no follow through with software. Bummber.
Pros: Great hardware
Cons: Software not fully developed
Not working with Android smart phones. You need to have Iphone to work with OS 9 or newer.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 5/15/2018 Once we saw this review, Jason, from our Tech Support team, reached out to Melvin to help. We'll either help him get this camera connecting properly, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
The Pearl backup camera is super easy to install. Installing the software can be a little tricky, but this is an excellent aftermarket product. After trying to have two different wired products installed, only to learn theyxwould diable key features of my vehicle, I turned to the Pearl backup camera. The picture is very clear and no problem at night. It doesn't have the guide lines but it does have audible as well as visual warnings when you are getting too close to objects. I am pleased so far.
Great idea if it would work 1st couldn't get it to link with camera and module 2nd camera worked less than 8 hrs used twice and module quit linking However Crutchfield responded very quickly and hassle free would definitely do business with them again Thanks
Your company sold me a Product from the company that went bankrupt last year. I assumed it had a three-year warranty and was told that by the service advisor. Who is going to make good on the three-year warranty if the product page? I had asked that to the services basher several days ago and no one has responded. Does Crutchfield not normally answer difficult questions?
Cons:Crutchfield response on 3/13/2018 American Road Products bought the assets for Pearl, and will be honoring the full warranty for any Pearl products purchased from Crutchfield.
Excellent video and is very cool it can look left, right, up and down. Also quality of build is very high. I would definitely recommend!
Outstanding rear view camera. I installed this on my wife's 2010 BMW 328iX. Literally takes 15 minutes to install as there are no wires to run or hook up to power and ground and video output / input. Video quality is great. App is great. Best so far that I have ever come across. I may install one on my 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider. Tip: Charge the unit via included USB cable for about 5 hours before first use, especially now during winter time where sunshine is a rare occurrence. Dan
Pros: Great video quality, super easy installation, comes complete with everything you need for full installation.
So easy to set up. For some reason, trying to install a rear view camera in my truck was a big pain. I probably spent more money and time than buying this. Set up was a breeze, sort of. I kept getting errors when I first installed and it tried to upgrade the firmware. It says it wasn't connected, or the camera wasn't charged. Ended being there wasn't enough charge. I took it off and charged it inside for the afternoon and bam, it worked. Clear as can be. I love being able to move the camera angle. Driving on the highway with this on makes it easier to change lanes as you can go left, right or center.
Pros: Clear picture, able to move angle from phone
Cons: Price, wish it could record (can record using screen record on iphone)
The quality of the Pearl RearVision Camera is excellent from the way it is boxed to the ease of installation. Comes with everything needed to install on your vehicle. Replace your rear license plate frame, plug in the OBD connector and download the Pearl Vision App and you have a back up camera. Installation took less than 10 minutes, The camera may need to be charged on initial installation with the supplied USB cable. Took 8 hours to full charge the camera. The app works great and can be used in portrait or landscape mode. Noticed that the app has to be relaunched when switching modes. The portrait mode has 2 views, one directly in back and a wider view. The landscape mode has only a wide view. The camera quality is very good, comparable to a factory back up camera in another of my vehicles. Works equally well in darkness and daylight. Discovered that the app also works with an iPad. Like it a lot.
Pros: Excellent quality, easy to install
Cons: App has to be launched to use camera
high quality and easy to set up. pic quality very high. put on 2013 Corvette that didn't have rear camera on Nav and is nice touch. Would of gone five stars but it is expensive and is not activated by going into or out of reverse. hopefully future updates will add features. looks good on the car as well.
The installation process was very easy to follow and the Wi Fi/blue tooth connection was a swift process. Picture quality is good and the warning signals and signs that it gives while close to an object is surely a very useful feature. The only issue that I had that knocks down one star from being a perfect device was the great difficulty that I have encountered to screw the camera frame to the license plate holding frame. I kept trying different angles and felt if I use more force to thread it in then the screw threads will be grinded. There should be a better way to engineer this. Anyhow I was able to get the job done. Another issue is that the camera stays on and does not cut off after when driving, it would have been nice if it did. Also the image doesn't switch automatically when flipping the phone from vertical to horizontal and visa versa. I'm not sure if this is my iPhone issue or not.
Pros: Ease of use, good picture, useful alert features.
Simple 5 min install on the rear license plate holder for as 2006 Saab convertible. The app was easy to install and configure via bluetooth+wifi sync. Emailed the wifi config from my phone to self so I could update other phones. Good thing I did that since my original phone died a month later.
Pros: solar charge, clear picture, sideways scan, object detection
Cons: Takes over your OBD port. You cannot have another OBD dongle to monitor your engine performance.
I like the product. The only negative was the set up. After installing the Pearl had zero charge. Putting the car in direct sunlight did not help. I had to remove the camera and plug it in for about 5 hours until it was charged and then reinstall. The instructions should have one of those stop sign flyers that reads "stop, charge for 5 hours before you do anything". So far so good now that it is up and running.
Pros: Works as described.
Cons: None other than the set up issue described.
I did a lot of checking before i purchased this rearvision wireless camera. It was such a breeze to setup. Took me 10 minutes, and now with it installed on my wifes car-Happy Wife, Happy LIfe. Its good that now when she backs out of the mall, or supermarket, it makes it so much easier for her to see her surrounding areas.
Pros: Easey Setup- works perfectly
Cons: The price was a bit to swallow at first, but a lot easier than tearing up the car even with a professional installer.I know in my heart I made the right choice.
Purchased this to make my '08 Silverado a serviceable vehicle for my teenage driver to use. The unit installed in less than 10 minutes, but recognize that it will take several hours to charge in the sun if you do it straight out of the box. The dash mount is very solid with an iPhone 6. Once the app was downloaded and updated, I measured the camera height and we were ready to roll. The camera height measurement activates the parking assist feature which is quite nice (better than factory versions in my opinion). The app is easy to use, the picture is great and my newest driver really loves the camera for both day and nighttime use. It's stored outside so recharging via USB won't be necessary. We had one episode on a very warm day (Temp ~100 F) where the app said the proximity alerts would not function because of the excessive temperature. No other complaints whatsoever. It is expensive, but I think the ease of installation and use, coupled with the portability (should we decide to change vehicles), makes it worth the price tag.
Pros: Easy to install and set-up. Great picture Parking assist Portability if you but a different vehicle
True plug and play! Product works as advertised, I would recommend this to my friends and family don't give 5 stars so easily.
Pros: Great product, does everything right out of the box. Now if they would come out with a front facing camera.
Cons: The alert tone could be louder. Half the original price point would have been more reasonable.
Very easy to install, even though I am not particularly handy. Just swapped out the license plate holder, downloaded the app, plugged the power under my dash, and I was good to go. The camera charged very quickly and was ready to use. It's a good quality camera, too, and gives you two different views. I have an iPhone 5 and the screen size is good, but if you had a 6S or one of the big Samsung phones that would be even better!
Pros: It's all good.
What's not to like about this product? A premium product that offers more than what you expect. Their website has all the information categorized so you don't have to google for answers. Setup takes minutes and everything is simplified.
Pros: Easy setup/installation, HD video, solar powered or recharge using USB, easy uninstall; 2 screws for license frame and 1 anti-theft screw for camera frame, night vision, proximity sensor, parking guidelines, different settings/modes.
Cons: Is it worth the price and do you really need it? Yes, it is worth the price and cheaper than a factory built backup camera / sensors.
Though the implementation was clunky and took considerably longer than I expected, the product works as advertised.
Pros: Camera works great
Cons: Implementation/installation included repeated messages of "Waiting to enhance your RearVision experience..." I was expecting a smoother installation process, particularly from former Apple employees.
Excellent product, good quality camera image. Excellent tech support. Only wish product description noted that product does not work with all smart phones required me to purchase a new cell phone.
Love the ease of installation and that the product actually does, in HD what it says it will. I will recommend to others definitely.
Pros: Easy installation, crystal clear image.
Cons: Removal for the charging process or difficult on the older BMW as it's a super tight fit.
Amazing product for sure! It's pricey but you do get what you pay for. It's easy to setup and use. Brilliant ! Great for those of us who lose complete functionality of our OEM integrated backup camera via stock stereo with a large Nav screen when looking for an aftermarket stereo. I have grown heavily dependent on my backup camera in my Honda Ridgeline. Now the thought of an aftermarket stereo seems very realistic. Thank you.
Pros: Night vision and proximity warning
The best rearview system I had purchased. The image is crystal clear the one suggestion is to have an app enable for my tablet that I am using as my car stereo.
Pros: Best item
Cons: One improvement is to have an app for tablets.
Wow! This thing is great. Installation was super easy. The app works as advertised. Everything about this is classy and slick, sort of like an Apple device. This device was installed on my wife's car, a 2006 Lexus IS250. She parks outside at work so we haven't had to charge via USB. Excellent.
I ordered this because I didn't want to tear apart and risk any damage to my brand new car to install an OEM backup camera. Yes, it seems expensive for what it is, but it came out to be a few hundred cheaper than the cost of an OEM camera + labor + the time and hassle to get such a camera installed. Is it perfect? Not yet, but with future app updates, it could be great. 5+ stars for ease of installation, hardware and software design, and packaging. Functionally, it works well when connected via WiFi, but not so much when it switches to Bluetooth. My car is parked out just out of range of my home WiFi so it rarely switches to Bluetooth on me, but when it does, it just takes a few moments to manually switch it back to WiFi. It's not a dealbreaker for me, but I imagine it could annoy others. I'll look forward to seeing parking guide improvements in future app releases. So far, it's useful for judging how close you are to objects directly behind you, but I don't quite trust it for parallel parking because I can't use it judge how close I am to the curb, for example. My only real complaint is that the magnetic mount for the phone isn't strong enough to hold an iPhone 6s+ in landscape orientation and slides down and occasionally falls off when in portrait orientation. I had to sandwich the metal plate between the phone and phone case because the magnet is strong enough to pull the metal plate right off the phone.
Pros: Easy to install Great design
Cons: Parking guidelines could use some work Can't maintain a good enough connection with Bluetooth
I've mounted this on the front of my car, and not the rear. There are some limitations ( image is flipped-but i knew this prior to purchase). Very good resolution and works automatically 95% of the time with no manual intervention (unlocking phone). To be fair, I'm not sure that it is not my phones fault. Easy set up. I am happy that i won't be hitting any curbs. If I could flip the image I would have given it 5 stars but it's not the devices fault.
Pros: Ease of setup.
Cons: None, cost:)
Overall, I thought this was an amazing option that serves it purposes beautifully. I'm a stickler for cables hanging everywhere in my car, and I love that I was able to give my car a modern touch with minimal impact to my car's interior/exterior design. If I ever sell the car, I can easily take this with me, too! While the app doesn't always launch on its own, I have now developed the habit of launching it on my own if I know I am about to be parking or backing up in a few moments.
Pros: - Great sleek design. Has a beautiful finish to it that I think would look great on most color vehicles. - Installation and setup was easy. - Multiple view options in landscape, portrait, and fisheye or standard lense. - Great nighttime visibility. - Audible warnings when approaching objects
Cons: - Doesn't fire up automatically when going into reverse like built in systems. - With iPhone, doesn't always prompt to launch when approaching and starting the vehicle. - Sometimes has buffering when there's a bad connection.
Awesome product, works better than discribed! Extremely clear picture....
Pros: Would recommend
Easy installation, just worked. Excellent product.
Pros: Installation, shipping, and quality
Very easy to install, the app is kind of slow to download but fairly easy. Well made and if you have any medical Conditions that prevents you from looking over your shoulders don't look anywhere else. Great item.
Pros: Well made, easy installation and a superb warranty.
The unit is excellent for backing up in clear, sunny weather. However, during rain, the video is constantly having to recover as the camera does not work well. All in all, for my uses, the unit is easy to operate even though frequent "video recovering" screens do occur.
So far so good. Works as advertised and has been very helpful in my situation having no sensors or backup camera on my Porsche. Every once in a while it loses its connection but 95% it works well! Glad to have it! A little pricey but great technology.
Pros: Clear picture
Cons: Obd necessary
Dont buy this product. It was easy to set up. To keep it working, not so easy. Video refreshes as soon as car is moving. Then cant find the camera. If it comes back on line, video refreshes upon slightest movement. Spent an hour on phone with Crutchfield and several with Pearl. Pearl uploaded logs and gave to engineers. No help. Returning this and paying a little more for factory hard wired camera.
Pros: Like the phone concept
Cons: Many. Works only when car is mot moving. Upon slightest movement, video refreshes. Many times the App cant find the camera.
Thinking of returning this product: video stutters and sometimes blanks out to 'recover'. Neither a good quality in a back up camera.
Pros: When it works, it's pretty good.
Cons: Video stutters as the car is backing but also cuts out and tells you 'video is recovering'Crutchfield response on 1/24/2017 Whenever you encounter a problem with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, especially a situation like this, please contact our tech support team right away. As soon as I read about this product, I signed up on the Pearl website. The idea behind the product is ingenious and the overall quality is excellent. However, the reviews are from the West Coast, Hawaii or Texas. I am located in NYC and also spend time on my farm near Hudson NY - a more extreme climate. The camera works in normal conditions about 90% of instances, although delays or reboots can happen. The real problem is that it was developed for nice weather and for parking outdoors. If you park indoors for more than a few days, the solar battery depletes and recharging in the sun is slow or may not even work. The only recourse is to charge the unit on a computer or USB charger. This is now my routine. The problem becomes worse when the weather is bad and there is snow, ice and road salting. The cameras can be cleared of debris easily enough, however, the unit will loose its charge and requires unscrewing with a specially supplied key. The screw is easily frozen over and even if you are able to clear it, removal of the unit may be difficult because there may be ice between the license plate and the camera unit. I wonder if Pearl tested it sufficiently for more extreme climate conditions than California. I hope that revisions will circumvent the problems I report here. I remain a fan!
Pros: Lots of very nice details and good upgrades. Very easy to install and excellent instructions. Great visibility most of the time.
Cons: May loose charge if not parked in the sun regularly. Unlike other camera's it will require a charge from a USB charger. Does not work well when parked indoors as it will loose its charge. Charging outside in overcast weather or up north is clearly reduced. Ice may prevent easy removal from the license plate.
Works great. Excellent picture and chimes when something moving is within view of the cameras. Installation was easy and was easy to set up on my phone.
Pros: Completely wireless except when your phone needs charging. Two camera's on a very nice frame. Batteries are solar charged. No holes to drill. No wires to splice into. Great picture. Chimes when it detects something /someone in view. Easy to install and set up. No monitor to leave plugged into cigarette lighter.
Cons: Extremely expensive. Has to have sun to charge batteries. Uses your phone. Have to have one of the latest versions of android.
Got one of these for my wife for Christmas. It's pretty good! The frame around the license plate interferes with the trunk latch on her 2015 Mercedes C300 and as others have said, it covers the State name on my Colorado plate. Not show stoppers. The cameras works very and we have not had a problem with the wifi connection getting confused when in the garage at home. It was VERY easy to install, 10 minutes max.
Pros: Hi quality picture, easy install, works as expected
Cons: Frame is thick and may interfere with things close by
Technology today...gotta love it! Works as designed. Installed on a 2012 Silverado truck. Sure makes backing up a much more secure process. Tech support if needed gets two thumbs up. Very happy with purchase, saved me money, time, and the hassle of drilling holes and running wires. Seems to be well designed. Hopefully get many years of use. Only issue was because a truck has a recessed plate location you lose some of the side angle sensitivity do to bumper design and height. Called Pearl and they sent me an adapter plate free of charge that raised the camera's up about 1/2 " and that helped out a lot.
Pros: Crystal clear images, easy installation, works as designed, top notch tech support when needed, well designed.
I had gotten accustomed to rear view cameras on my older vehicles. Unfortunately when I bought a brand new 2015 Porsche Cayman S, the car did not come with any technological innovations. After installing this in under 5 minutes, I feel much more comfortable backing out of my driveway. Software took a while to get used to but it seems to be working most of the time. Picture quality is excellent even better than my factory 2017 Audi S5.
Pros: Easy hardware setup.
Cons: Software sometimes glitchy.
Be aware does not work on Volvo XC90. The license mounting covers the tailgate latch, preventing opening the gate. My Volvo is from 2008 thus does not have automatic tailgate opener.
Pros: Great. Since I reverse into my garage, this is just what I needed
Cons: As mentioned does not work on a Volvo XC90 (2008)Crutchfield response on 1/2/2017 Pearl Automation reached out with the following info: Hi John, Pearl Auto here! Thanks for joining the Pearl family! We wanted to check in and see if, when you first installed your RearVision, that you had the Volvo adapter for the Camera Frame? The license plate adapter (made specifically for Volvo's) is required in order to install RearVision on a Volvo. Great product. Only drawback is sporadic loss of connection when camera is needed most. I also don't understand why Bluetooth connects rather than the wifi connection sometimes. Another issue is that the camera stays on and does not cut off after when driving. The claim that when greater than 10 mph is reached the camera shuts off is false. It would also be nice if the sensors worked and chimed even if the app was not launched, and why not if the dongle supposedly has so much processing power????
Cons:Crutchfield response on 1/2/2017 Pearl Automation reached out with the following info: Hi Jimmy, Pearl Automation here. Thanks for joining the Pearl family! If you're on iOS (versus Android), when your iPhone's Wi-Fi connection is not available (for example, when you're still connected to your home network or when you have Wi-Fi turned off), RearVision will send video over Bluetooth. In this configuration, Bluetooth hands-free kits can interfere with the video streaming while on a call. To improve video performance, switch back to transmitting wirelessly by going into your iPhone's Settings > Wi-Fi, then connect to the Pearl network listed. Most vehicles made after 1996 are CAN-enabled which means our Car Adapter can receive information like your speed which then triggers our app to shut off once you reach 10 MPH. In the case of older cars or more recent models which are not CAN-enabled, you will have to manually shut the screen or app off. Thanks so much for offering your feedback on the sensors and obstacle alerts; we love hearing what our customers would like to see in our product. 100% fan or Pearl RearVision! Best gift I've received! Super easy to install and I feel so much more secure having it. I bought two for my boys for the holidays. Couldn't wait to give it to them so now they have theirs! Having piece of mind was well worth it. I highly recommend this for anyone with an older car/or a car without this technology. Thank you Pearl!
I love my Mini but have horrible visibility and blind spots behind the back of the car and around/below the bumper. I've tapped into things before and thought I would try this. Good return policy so if it didn't work I could send it back. I've already had a couple upgrades to the software and alerts which is nice. The clarity is unbelievable. I've taken it off and used it on another car when I hooked up my trailer because it's better than the other installed version. The phone mount is going to be a stocking stuffer this year for some family members.
Perfect upgrade for my Toyota Highlander - an older car that I love but doesn't have many options. Super happy to get alerts and great clarity with this easy-to-install system. Now I can keep my car forever. Seemed expensive at first but I couldn't drill into my car so was less than going to Best Buy. Can take off and use on another car if I want too.
Got this product for my 2005 Camry and my husbands 2006 GMC Extended Cab Truck. We are in our 60's and having the security of visibility and alerts behind us has been so wonderful. Being able to install ourselves in less than 10 minutes was great and while this product looked like it was more expensive than others - it wasn't because we didn't need to buy a separate display, power source and pay for installation. We've had two updates already and love the guidelines.
Pros: Clarity Guidelines Alerts and sensors Installation Phone Mount
Cons: I needed this 3 years ago before I backed into a fire hydrant (less than the cost of that)
Great option for my truck. It didn't come with a camera and visibility is horrible. The alerts alone are really helpful. If I get into a car without one now I feel lost I've become so dependent!! Thanks Pearl. Love that mount too.
Pros: Easy install Beautiful design Clear view Alerts
Cons: Guidelines - although their customer service told me it's coming soon
For the price, I expected this camera to have the same functionality of much less expensive cameras. Boy, was I wrong. 1. Many cameras have parking lines. Not this one. I was told by a local retailer that they're working on this, but didn't explain why they would release such an incomplete product. 2. A cheap backup camera will come on automatically when you put the car in reverse. Not this one. Let's say you need to use this camera to help you parallel park. You have to manipulate your phone while you're driving, which is illegal where I live, in order to show a reverse view. They evidently don't plan to fix this. Another way to is this would be to allow customers to show a constant view behind them. The local retailer says that they don't allow their paying customers to make this decision in order to avoid distractions. There are two holes in this theory: By this logic, I should remove my rearview mirror, and how is fiddling with my phone while I'm driving not a distraction. Easy installation is easy, and the phone mount is decent. All told, I paid way too much money for a camera that I can legally use approximately 1,000th of the time. If it cost half as much I would give it two stars. Get a better, cheaper, camera and pay someone to install it.
Pros: Ease of installation
Cons: lack of functionalityCrutchfield response on 11/14/2016 Pearl Automation reached out with the following info: Hi Alan, Pearl Automation here. Sorry to hear you were not happy with your RearVision experience. Just a few weeks ago (right before Thanksgiving), we pushed our third and latest Pearl App update which included our much-anticipated Smart Parking Guidelines. One of the many things we are most excited for and proud of in our product is its ability to improve over time thanks to the fact that we can push software updates directly to your phone. We appreciate your concerns around driver safety; for Android users, in our second update we released an Auto-launch feature and for iOS users, due to the closed system, we are hard at work on a similar Auto-launch feature that will utilize a push notification. While constantly streaming video from your backup camera would negate the need to launch the app before backing up, streaming video while at speed is extremely dangerous; this is why your video feed shuts off (since your vehicle is CAN-enabled) once you exceed 10 MPH. We have a wonderful Customer Support team available to answer questions and concerns about our product and we encourage you to reach out at 844.877.3275 or firstname.lastname@example.org M-F 8am-6pm and Sat-Sun 9am-6pm (PST).
Pearl RearVision has been such a great upgrade to my car. We had one care with and one car without and instead of buying a whole new vehicle, wanted to look at options to add. The dealership cost was pretty expensive and the other online options were invasive (i.e.: had to drill into my car - myself or pay more money for someone else to!) so I checked out RearVision and it seemed ridiculously simple. I am a very non-technical and it took me 8 minutes to install - including the frame, OBD and app!!! Everything is beautiful - from quality of the frame, the OBD, the awesome mount that's included, the UI all the way down to the packaging. I back out of a driveway onto a busy street near a school with lots of kids and pedestrians daily and this has really eased my driving experience. Being able to actually see below your bumper where there is so much uncertainty is so comforting. The alerts are great and I'm no longer afraid to parallel park. Compared it to the OEM camera and the Pearl is far superior when it comes to clarity, alerts and overall UI - and they say to expect software updates over time to make it even better! Super happy with my purchase and will be purchasing one for my parents this holiday season!! Upgrade your current car! Thanks Pearl!
Pros: Insanely easy install (less than 10 min) Beautiful UI Awesome alerts Pan-to-view

It consists of a Camera Frame, featuring dual HD cameras, that installs securely over your license plate and wirelessly pairs to the companion Car Adapter inside your vehicle that plugs into your car's OBD port. Together, they connect to the PEARL App for Apple iOS & Android, allowing you to see and control super-wide views of what's behind your car - right on your smartphone. Audible and visual alerts warn you of obstacles in your path and a thoughtfully-designed Phone Mount is included for hands-free viewing. There is no drilling, no wires, and no professional installation required.
- This rearview camera system feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera system when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.
- Laws and regulations applicable to the installation and use of the PEARL RearVision system vary by State. The PEARL RearVision has been designed, marketed, and sold for use by residents of the United States only; and should not be used outside of the United States
Vehicle Compatibility: The PEARL RearVision wireless backup camera system is designed to work on all standard passenger vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs, & minivans) made after 1996 for the US market - the year OBD-II ports became standard.
Wireless Communication: The PEARL RearVision backup camera system utilize 5GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 to send a wireless video signal from the system's dual HD cameras to your compatible smartphone's screen. The system uses a direct 5GHz WiFi wireless connection between the Camera Frame mounted on the rear exterior of the vehicle and the Car OBD Adapter inside the vehicle, plus a Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connection between the Car OBD Adapter and your compatible Apple iOS or Android device with the downloaded PEARL App.
- Cell service is not required to use the PEARL RearVision camera system. It works the same in a city as it would in a remote area. Connectivity, via cell or the Internet, is only required to download the PEARL App and to receive automatic software/firmware updates.
- As with any wireless video transmission, the video you see and the alerts you receive are time-delayed. Remain alert, especially if there are quickly moving objects.
Camera Frame: The RearVision's Camera Frame features a unibody aluminum frame that is splash- and water-resistant so it can function in harsh conditions. The Camera Frame mounts around your vehicle's license-plate using the included bracket, two existing screws from your license-plate and two proprietary screws supplied the with the Camera Frame (you will need to remove any other license-plate bracket you are currently using. .
- The Camera Frame can withstand a car wash. However, fully submerging the Camera Frame in water could cause damage or impair its functionality.
- The Camera Frame can be damaged and become inoperable if your vehicle is exposed to extreme heat (122°F or above) or cold (-22°F or below). In case of these extreme temperatures, you should remove the Camera Frame from your vehicle.
Dual HD Cameras: Dual HD cameras are housed in the camera frame. One camera is optimized for the day, while the other camera is IR-sensitive for nighttime. Each camera is equipped with a 1/3" CMOS sensor and a custom 7-element lens hydrophobic coating that repels water droplets in rain weather. Both cameras feature a f/2.0 aperture and provide a 175° field-of-view. Built-in image software is used to automatically manage exposure and geometry distortion.
- To better aid you in safely backing up, any audio from your smartphone (music, podcasts, etc.) is temporarily paused until the video from RearVision stops. Note that you can still receive calls as you would normally.
- Some video capabilities may not be available in extreme weather, in low or harsh lighting conditions (such as extremely bright sunlight beams that are directed or reflected onto one of the camera lenses), or when the HD cameras on the Camera Frame are obstructed/soiled/damaged.
Car Adapter: The included Car Adapter, plugs into your vehicle's OBD port and creates a secure wireless connection to the companion Camera Frame. Together, they connect wirelessly to the PEARL App, allowing you to see and control super-wide views of what's behind your car - right on your smartphone. The Car Adapter uses its sophisticated 3D vision algorithms to instantly process and understand the video streams sent from the Camera Frame, and relays that video and information to the PEARL App on your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. This process provides the real-time audible and visual alerts that warn you of obstacles in your path.
PEARL App: The PEARL RearVision requires the use of the PEARL App for Apple iOS and Android. The PEARL App is free and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or Google Play onto your Apple iPhone 5 or newer (iOS 9.0+) or Android smartphone (OS 5.0+). The PEARL App gives you a customizable, super-wide view of what's behind and around your car right on your smartphone in both portrait and landscape. In addition visual and audible alerts warn you of obstacles in your path. There is even a Night Vision feature which offers stunning clarity in low-light-to-dark driving conditions.
- The Pearl App must be physically activated from your device by pressing the Pearl App icon on its touchscreen (there is no automatic rearview switching).
- You can easily share your RearVision credentials with other drivers (such as your family or friends), so they can also use the PEARL App with their compatible Apple iOS or Android device when driving your vehicle.
Apple iOS & Android Device Compatibility: Many devices that meet the minimum requirements below can download the PEARL App and will support all aspects of PEARL RearVision. However, due to the number of different devices, models and operating system versions, full compatibility has only been validated for these preferred devices that have been tested internally.
Note: Click here for the latest compatibility list.
Audible Alerts: RearVision's obstacle alerts are powered by cutting-edge stereo-vision algorithms. The Car Adapter's eight-core processor runs billions of calculations per second to analyze images from both cameras while you're backing up. When an obstacle is detected, a tone sounds from the built-in speaker in the Car Adapter, and the object is highlighted in the PEARL App. The audible alerts come from the Car Adapter rather than the PEARL App because if your smartphone device was on silent, these important alerts would not be heard.
Note: Alerts are On by default, but can be turned within the PEARL App on your smartphone device.
Smartphone Mount: The include smartphone mount features a carbon steel gimbal that offers 140° of rotation, so you can mount your smartphone horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait); as well as angle it in any direction for the best view of the screen. Also included are two magnetic plates for your phone; one small plate for smaller smartphones (like the iPhone SE) and one large plate for bigger phones (like the iPhone 6S+). These magnetic plates attach to the back to the back of your smartphone device via self-adhesive tape. Once the plate is installed on your phone, it will magnetically attach to the smartphone cradle mount - your phone can be easily attached, detached, and reattached. The smartphone mount can be installed to your vehicle's dash or vent.
- Do not charge your smartphone wirelessly with the magnetic phone plate installed, as this can cause extreme overheating.
- State and local laws may restrict placement of the smartphone phone. Before installing the mount, please check your State and Local laws and regulations and be sure to comply.
Rechargeable Battery w/ Solar Charging: The PEARL RearVision's camera frame features a 2500mAh lithium-ion battery that is solar-charged, and with good exposure to daylight, should maintain a continuous charge, even on cloudy days. But if you're storing your car in a garage or out of the daylight for long periods of time, you may need to recharge the Camera Frame before using it again. A USB cable has been built into the Camera Frame should the battery require wired recharging (takes approximately 5 hours to fully charge). The PEARL App will give you a "low battery" warning if it is needing charge.
Theft Deterrents: The PEARL RearVision has a number of built-in theft deterrents to help prevent the camera system from being stolen.

Honestly, I can't say for certain, but my educated guess would be no. I'd recommend contacting the company directly with your question. I must say, we have been very happy with the system and I consider it to be worth the cost. My 16 yr old is using it on a full-size pickup without issue. [ Robert May 02, 2018 ]

I had the same question when I bought it, so I called the company. A representative said that not only was it difficult to steal, but that the company would send me a new one free of charge if it did get stolen. Now . . . it's my understanding that the company went out of business and another company took over the sales and service of the product, so i don't know if what I was told would still be true. [ RICHARD B Jan 31, 2018 ]
I don't think the frame is easy to steal however if someone wants It they will find a way to steal it. The special tool included will make the Pearl useless if you don't have said tool. [ Julius Jan 30, 2018 ]
No, it is not. You have to use a special tool to remove the frame with the camera. [ LAWRENCE L Jan 30, 2018 ]

Stan: Not easy unless you would have a screw driver which fit the proprietary screw. It is so inconspicuous I was not worried. Other issues which caused me to return the item. [ Alan Jan 30, 2018 ]
Yes it should work on any vehicle. On some vehicles an adapter mount may be required which you will discover during install. [ Mark Jan 17, 2018 ]
It probably wouldn't work, as you need to plug a small Bluetooth transmitter into an onboard computer port under the dash - I can't imagine a 1969 model vehicle is equipped with that. The camera operates via Bluetooth instead of being wired into the car's electrical system. [ bijan Jan 16, 2018 ]
No, this wireless rear-view camera uses an OBD2 port as the receiver which was a standard from 1996+. Also, I believe this camera's manufacturer no longer provides support as they have folded. Do yourself a favor and get something else. [ ELY Jan 15, 2018 ]
I haven't driven my vehicle with Pearl for a while but if I recall it has white lines only that turn red when the distance is so close you risk hitting the object or vehicle behind you. You also receive an audible tone. While it may not have the three color grid it is still easy to back up into spaces. Keep in mind that since this is not connected to your steering, the lines would not turn in the direction of the wheels anyway. [ Mark Dec 12, 2017 ]
I'm sorry but I bought it as a gift, and the car was sold about 10 months ago and I'm not sure if the three color feature existed. [ John Dec 12, 2017 ]
I think you will need to turn on Bluetooth on your new iPhone then go into your wireless settings on the iPhone. Look for Pearl as it should show up as a Wi-Fi connection. Touch it to connect to the Pearl network and that should pair your camera to your new phone I believe. [ Mark Oct 15, 2017 ]
Have you tried unplugging then replugging the OBDII receiver and try to reconnect? If that doesn't work then I would send an email to the Pearl engineers if you'd need to register again because of a new phone. I doubt it but it beats guessing. [ ELY Oct 15, 2017 ]
Hi Clyde W, Sarah with Pearl Auto here. RearVision does not require an adapter for vehicles with uncentered license plates so nothing to worry about there - it will work just fine off to the side. As for your use case, RearVision may work but there's a possibility that the distance between the Car Adapter (which plugs into the OBDII Port below your steering wheel) and the Camera Frame (which is installed around your license plate) is too far for a good connection to be made. We recommend you buy RearVision and give it a try, with the knowledge that our hassle-free, money-back guarantee enables you to try RearVision and return it if it doesn't suit your needs. Feel free to reach out with further questions - we're here and happy to help. Safe travels. [ Sarah M. Apr 18, 2017 ] Works for Pearl Auto
I know Pearl has adapter plates to ensure a proper fit where the factory plate is but not sure about being able to compensate for the plate being mounted away from center. The view is fairly panoramic however and you can touch the screen to pan from one side to the other. So the view should be pretty good. I think range will not be a problem as I have been able to view the rear of my car from outside of it somewhere around 20-25' away. Pearl is very helpful so I would call them to confirm. [ Mark Apr 14, 2017 ]
Hi Gary K, Sarah with Pearl Automation here, just reaching out to answer your questions. Yes, your Bluetooth receiver will still work via the same iPhone however, we do recommend that you turn off all other Bluetooth devices in or near your car during onboarding; you can turn them back on once you're fully onboarded. Our audible alerts actually come from the Car Adapter, not the phone because if your device was on silent, these important alerts would not be heard; this is why the sound isn't routing through your speakers like a Maps command or music does. And you're right, Eric, the volume is consistent, for that reason. I'm including some helpful articles on Bluetooth from our website, for your reference: - https://support.pearlauto.com/hc/en-us/articles/228027807-How-does-Bluetooth-video-work-with-RearVision- - https://support.pearlauto.com/hc/en-us/articles/236116727-Why-does-the-video-stream-flicker-in-the-Pearl-App- Please feel free to reach out at 844.US.PEARL or email@example.com with further questions - we're here and happy to help. [ Sarah M. Mar 24, 2017 ] Works for Pearl Auto
I have a similar set up where I have a Bluetooth connection both to the Pearl and my sound system. The alert seem to come only from the phone and not through the speakers. Unlike the in-phone apps, eg Maps, or text, where volume of the music dips for a second for the notification, it is not doing it for the pearl system. [ Eric Mar 01, 2017 ]
Hi Marvin L, I work for Pearl Automation and wanted to reach out with an answer to your question. With regular use, RearVision requires time in the sun in order to charge the battery. However, we understand that weather conditions and where you park your car the majority of the time can significantly impact the battery life of your RearVision Camera Frame. Luckily, we've attached a (hidden) USB charging cable to the backside of the Camera Frame. For more information on how to recharge your RearVision Camera Frame, check out this step-by-step article on our website: https://support.pearlauto.com/hc/en-us/articles/231779028-Recharging-your-RearVision-Camera-Frame . Please feel free to reach out with further questions - we're here and happy to help. [ Sarah M. Feb 06, 2017 ] Works for Pearl Auto
No. In fact, regardless of how much photovoltaic exposure this frame gets, you'll still need to charge it at least once a month. [ ELY Jan 28, 2017 ]
Sorry My car is outside. They do have a way to charge it but you probably have to take it off the car. [ HENRY Jan 28, 2017 ]
The only time we had an issue was when we were away 3 weeks at Christmas and car was in garage the whole time. It was really easy to take the license bracket off, bring in and recharge, however?? [ bijan Jan 28, 2017 ]
Going by our experience of about 1 month (wife's car mainly parked in our home garage during the winter) ... no. The garage windows do allow some sunlight in during the day and she does drive the car on shopping trips etc every day or so but that wasn't enough to prevent us having to remove the license plate frame and charge it via the USB cord that is part of the frame. This is very easy to do ... but in answer to your question ... no it wasn't enough in our case at least. [ Kevin Jan 28, 2017 ]
I drove mine like once a week on the weekends and it was fine [ Ferhan Jan 28, 2017 ]
Hi Scott B, Pearl Automation here. Absolutely, we want to make backing up easy and safe for every driver in your household, so each RearVision system may be shared by up to three different users. Each user will have to download the Pearl App on their phone and will connect to the shared RearVision using the WiFi password supplied by the user who set it up. Please note the RearVision system will only work with one driver's phone at a time. For more info on setup and how that process works, check out this article on our website: https://support.pearlauto.com/hc/en-us/articles/228091767-How-many-users-can-share-RearVision-. Please feel free to reach out with further questions - we're here and happy to help. [ Sarah M. Jan 26, 2017 ] Works for Pearl Auto
Yes you can use 2 different smart phones I had to return mine, could not get it to work was on the phone with the Pearl tech for over an hour too bad because it s gr8 concept [ Fredrick J Di Jan 25, 2017 ]
Look for the adapter plates that pearl offer. I believe they have a VW, Volvo, and Jeep option. I happen to have a Honda Ridgeline that have a step bumper (truck) and the mount is weird. I had to use the Jeep adapter to make it work. Comes free with purchase. [ Eric Mar 01, 2017 ]
Hi aghonim, Pearl Auto here! RearVision is designed and built for the US market and therefore US standard plates. The size is for American and Puerto Rico license plate includeding all 50 states of USA perfectly, but if you want an european car license plate (long and slim, like German ones) the plate will not fit. Otherwise the system is perfect and works super good!!! [ Melody Cruz Jan 06, 2017 ]
Hi Casey M, Pearl Auto here. Yes, RearVision does require the Car Adapter to be plugged into the OBDII port in order for everything work. If you're already using your OBD port with another product, there are 3rd party splitters available that will allow you to use the RearVision Car Adapter along with your other OBD-based device. Our initial testing has shown that these splitters work well. Feel free to check out this article on our website for more information: https://support.pearlauto.com/hc/en-us/articles/228201488-Can-I-use-RearVision-if-I-already-have-something-attached-to-my-OBD-port- [ Sarah M. Hi Todd L., Pearl Auto here. RearVision was designed around and for your mobile device as you have it with you on-the-go. Additionally, smartphones offer optimal video display and allow us to push software updates on an ongoing basis. Feel free to reach out with further questions. Thanks! I have non-Android mirroring infotainment system but so I couldn't even try this, however following that logic, maybe someone who has a smartphone mirroring infotainment system might actually work. [ ELY Oct 31, 2016 ]
Dozer12JK, you should look at replacing the radio in your vehicle. Most, if not all, receivers that have a backup camera input will let you select that as a source to display while moving forward. I know Pioneer has recently added "Backup camera" to the source list for easier selection of its video feed. You can call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personalized recommendation. HTH! Hi Dozer12JK, Thanks for your question. Once you launch the app, you can set how long the video streams for, so it runs for a set amount of time that you control and then turns off once you exceed 10 MPH for safety purposes. [ PearlAutomation Oct 26, 2016 ]
Thanks for the assist, Pearl Automation : ) If you would like to discuss the RearVision Wireless system further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Larry Oct 27, 2016 ] Staff
