Features

Portable Waterproof Design: The JBL Charge 4 Bluetooth speaker features a rugged rubberized housing and a durable fabric material grille which will hold up indoors and outdoors. The Charge 4 is waterproof (IPX7-rated) which means no more worrying about rain or spills; you can even submerge the Charge 4 in water up to 1 meter (3') for up to 30 minutes. Its compact design fits easily into a backpack so you can take it anywhere with you.

Notes:
  • The Charge 4 can only be submerged in water for a short period of time. If the speaker is playing and then submerged in water, it will sound muffled, as anything submerged in water would sound like. Submerging the speaker more than 1 meter and for more than 30 minutes will damage the speaker as the water will penetrate through the waterproof barriers due to pressure.
  • To ensure that the JBL Charge 4 is waterproof, please remove all cable connections and tightly close the cap; exposing the Charge 4 to liquids without doing so may result in permanent damage to the speaker. Do not expose the Charge 4 to water while charging, as doing so may result in permanent damage to the speaker or power source.

Full-Range JBL Sound: The JBL Charge 4 employs digital signal processing to generate room-filling audio from a compact speaker. Using a single 3.5" x 1.9375" driver, a 30-watt amplifier, and dual 2.25" passive radiators, the JBL Charge 4 delivers full-range JBL sound with punchy bass. The JBL Charge 4 stereo speaker can play from either a vertical or horizontal position, so you can place it in a variety of locations for great sound.

Bluetooth 4.2: The JBL Charge 4 portable speaker is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2 with support for wireless audio streaming (A2DP 1.3) and playback control (AVRCP 1.6). You'll be able to stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content on Bluetooth source device (such as your smartphone, tablet, computer, or laptop) to the Charge 4. You'll also be able to control basic playback functions such as Play, Pause, & Skip from the speaker. You will need to continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device for advanced music navigation and to view song/artist/album information.

Note: The JBL Charge 4 does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for making or answering phone calls.

JBL Portable App: Use the JBL Portable App (for Apple iOS 9.0+ or Android OS 5.0+) to wirelessly link multiple JBL Portable enabled speakers, like the JBL Charge 4, together for amplified sound. You are able to link two speakers together so each speaker acts as a left or right channel for stereo sound. You can also link up to 100 speakers together so each speaker plays back both left and right channels for playback of the same Bluetooth source from multiple speakers. Software updates for the speaker can also be done using the JBL Portable app.

Aux Input: In addition to built-in Bluetooth, the JBL Charge 4 is fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input for connection of almost any portable audio player with a headphone output.

USB Charging (5V/2A): The JBL Charge 4 is capable of recharging the battery of your Bluetooth-enabled device from the speaker's built-in USB-A (5V/2.0A) port. Now you don't need to carry an extra charger to keep your devices powered up. This USB port does not support audio playback.

Rechargeable Battery: The JBL Charge 4 stereo speaker has a built-in Lithium-ion polymer rechargeable battery (7500mAH) that provides up to 20 hours of playback time. The Charge 4 speaker includes a USB-C port and a 4' USB-C to USB-A cable to aid in charging the built-in battery. The battery can be recharged from a 3rd party USB/AC power adapter (sold separately) or a free USB port on your computer. A full battery charge takes approximately 4 hours.

LED Indicators: Clearly visible LED let you know when the built-in battery needs to be recharged, as well as when the JBL Charge 4 is in Bluetooth listening or pairing mode.

Q
I have a JBL Charge 4 that I'm very happy with. One problem though is with the charge. If I fully charge it, then don't use for several days, the charge will be gone or mostly gone. Shouldn't it hold the charge when not being used? I do shut it off using the power button and hear the decending tones. Is there a background process that drains the charge?
mark  May 10, 2021

A
I have x2 Charge 4. They can set for weeks and still hold charge.
thomas  May 11, 2021
A
I have 2 of the same unit for over a year and have not experienced this issue. Sounds like something isn't working correctly.
jamison  May 11, 2021
A
I've had a pair of these for a couple of years. I sometimes go fairly long periods of time without using them and neither one loses their charge during that time. After you turn them off, which you do, I know of no background activity. They're not like a "smart" speaker which must be alert at all times. I guess it's possible that you have a bad battery or that there is some other kind of electrical "leak".
richard  May 11, 2021
A
Yes it should hold a charge sound like ur battery is getting bad
lee  May 11, 2021
Q
i have a file on my apple computer that i want to access. Will this unit do that?
mike  Nov 13, 2020
1 answer
A
so far as I know this is just a dumb speaker. If your apple file is audio you should be able to connect the computer via bluetooth and play it via the computer over the jbl speaker

A
Never tried to it hooks up with a 4
mike  Dec 25, 2019
A
I do not have a charge 3. I have a charge 2 and they will both connect to my I pod at the same time but only one will play at a time. There may be a way to make them both play at the same time but I don't know how.
william  Dec 24, 2019
A
No idea, I only have the 4.

Q
Can I use a charge 4 on a motorcycle ?
john  Sep 23, 2019
3 answers
A
I suppose you could. I don't have a motorcycle. I am not sure how you would attach? It's fairly loud but if you have loud exhaust and with wind noise I can't imagine you will be able to hear it clearly. That being said I love it and the fact that I can use it to charge phones etc makes it a must have at the beach.
scott  Sep 24, 2019
A
Not likely unless you can figure out a way to attach it to your motorcycle. There are no built in attach points.
david  Sep 23, 2019
A
I would say yes , just fasten and go
michael  Sep 23, 2019
Q
Can I use the charge on a motorcycle?
john  Sep 23, 2019
2 answers
A
Go for it.I purchased two of these and they sound great
thomas  Sep 23, 2019
A
Personally I would not. Too many vibrations from the motorcycle. The speaker would have to be directly secured to the frame of the handlebars on some kind of insulated or padded bracket to minimize damaging vibrations. Not worth the effort I think.
herman  Sep 23, 2019

I purchased the Charge 4 for my boat. I would think this is too large for a motorcycle.

Q
Will this speaker work on a motorcycle?
john  Sep 23, 2019
6 answers
A
It is a Bluetooth speaker to connect to a phone etc, or you can plug in with a mini jack direct. Unless you have a windshield and some way to attach it you may not hear much. There are probably better routes for a bike but as far as small blue tooth portables this is the best.
scott  Sep 24, 2019
A
No, I don't think so.
linda  Sep 23, 2019
A
Not without a good mount to hold it on the bike.
juan  Sep 23, 2019
A
The speaker has great volume but it would depend on the exhaust volume of your motorcycle how effectively it performs
william  Sep 23, 2019
A
I would think so..unless your bike is very loud.
jeremy  Sep 23, 2019
A
Maybe if you strap it down hella good but then it'd be so strapped you might not hear it anymore.
richard  Sep 23, 2019
Q
Can you use a aftermarket wall charger to charge the battery? Any limitations on wattage?
carroll e.  Mar 29, 2019
3 answers
A
I haven't tried a aftermarket charger. As long as the connections match up I believe that it should charge.
matthew  Mar 31, 2019
A
I bought it for my son and he does use any charger he comes across lol and no trouble
jeremy  Mar 30, 2019
A
Yes you can use an aftermarket charger. As the 4 does not come with a charger just a USB-C cable. I bought the Charge 3 first and sent it back for the 4. It's worth the extra money to get the 4,the 3 doesn't even sound as good as the 2. I'm not aware of any limits but I use a 2 amp charger and it works fine. I recommend using a couple rubber bands to hold the charge door open so that it doesn't put pressure on the cable and break the connection on the charge port.
scott  Mar 29, 2019

Q
I have a JBL Charge 4 and look to purchase another. I understand the range on this unit is 30 feet. Does this mean that the 2nd unit would also need to be within 30 feet of the Bluetooth device or 30 feet from the 1st JBL unit. Description says can pair up to 100 units can they be spread out across the yard or need to be 30 foot from Bluetooth device?
bill  Jul 27, 2021
2 answers
A
I believe the answer is 30 feet from the bluetooth device.
seeley  Jul 30, 2021
A
Yes ! But the 30ft is not always the actual possible range from the Bluetooth source as the actuall range can be more depending on the orientation of the Bluetooth source as well as the level of the source material and finally it can be less than thirty if there are for example significant physical barriers that reduce the transmission of the Bluetooth signal..

Q
can I pair 2 JBL speaker using an old stereo and bluetooth adapter?
william  Jul 13, 2021
1 answer
A
Hello William, I have not attempted to try that combination. I only use the bluetooth adaptor to stream music to my older receiver. You may want to check the bluetooth adaptor capabilities to see if it can also be used on your stereo RCA outputs to stream to another device such as the JBL charge 4?

It doesn't come with a case. It's slightly larger then my JBL Charge 3. The sound is amazing though and I held it under water in a therapeutic pool running temp of 104 and it still works!
matthew  Feb 05, 2019
A
It does not come with a case but there are plenty inexpensive ones online. Also it comes with a charging cable but not the power adapter for it, any USB adapter should work.
scott  Jan 30, 2019

No it does not, nor does it come with a wall adaptor to charge from a wall outlet.

terry  Jan 30, 2019
A
No, the JBL Charge 4 does not come with a case, per se. However, the box in which it comes, is constructed in such a way that it can function very similarly to a case. I kept the box for that very purpose. I am very pleased with the unit.

I don't think so- a gift to my daughter- but I've listened to it. Sounds great for its size.
