About the Sound Ordnance™ B-10AS

Bob Bihlmayer

Make room for bass

As modern vehicles become smaller, Sound Ordnance has looked for more ways to put great bass into your space at a price that'll fit your budget. Their B-10AS truck-style powered sub gives you an all-in-one bass solution that's a little less than 7" deep. With 100 honest watts and an efficient 10" sub, you can count on the performance that has made Sound Ordnance's powered subs so popular.

Tough construction

The truck-style design allows this compact enclosure to fit behind seats in a regular cab, or in many other spaces too cramped for a standard sub. The carpet-covered enclosure and mesh grille look sharp and protect the sub from damage.

Fine tune your sound

The amplifier features a gain control which lets you match the sub's output to the rest of your system, as well as bass EQ and crossover controls. The variable phase control allows you to get bass response from your system, while the "Power On" and "Protect" LED indicators show amplifier status. An optional wired remote is available to control the bass from the front seat.

Features

Overview: The B-10AS amplified subwoofer features a 100-watt RMS (125-watts max) amp driving a 10" sub housed in a rugged, compact enclosure that's less than 7" deep.

Enclosure: The B-10AS features a durable, compact, truck-style enclosure that's designed to fit behind seats in regular cab trucks, or any other space that's too tight for a standard size subwoofer. The enclosure features attractive black felt covering along with a metal-mesh grill to help protect the subwoofer.

Wiring: Wiring for the subwoofer is done through an 8-pin Molex harness that includes connections for power, ground, and 2 female RCA jacks. Two Remote wires are included with bullet connectors on their ends. If connected together, the amp will power on automatically when it senses signal on the input wires. If connecting to an aftermarket radio, the Remote-In wire is connected to the remote output of the radio and the remaining wire is capped off. Two RCA to speaker wire adapters are also included for tying into factory systems without pre-amp outputs. The sub includes a 4-pin RJ-14 jack for use with an optional Remote Level control.

Wired Remote: An optional B8PT wired remote can be added to bring control of your subwoofer output level within easy reach.

Controls:

  • Gain: Rotary dial to set the amplifier gain control
  • Bass EQ: Bass boost; rotary knob; 0 to 12 dB @60Hz
  • Phase: Switches the phase; 0° to 180°
  • Crossover: Rotary dial adjusts the low pass crossover frequency; 60 to 200 Hz

Specifications:

  • Maximum Output Power: 125W
  • RMS Power: 100W
  • Frequency Response: 40Hz - 170Hz
  • Crossover Frequency: 60Hz - 200Hz
  • Bass EQ: 0 - 12dB @ 60Hz

Q
When was the Sound OrdnanceT B-10AS first released? Is it much newer than the B-8PTD?
cdefi  Feb 08, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings. The B10AS was first released August of 2018. The B8PTD is in its second generation, and released January of 2013.

Q
The amp it comes with is 100watts, whats the subwoofer's max wattage if I were to upgrade the amp?
kyle  Aug 06, 2023
1 answer
A
We had this powered subwoofer designed so that the built-in amp is giving the subwoofer all the power it can handle. It should not be powered by an amp that outputs more power.
jason  Aug 06, 2023 (Staff)
Q
I currently have a B-8PTD and want to upgrade to the B-10AS, are the connections same or will I need to rewire?
patrick  Oct 24, 2022
1 answer
A
The connections are the same. Technically the B-8PTD requires a thicker 10-gauge power wire whereas the B-10AS only requires a 12-gauge power wire. This shouldn't be an issue, though. I would recommend reaching out to our advisors via chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695 to explore other options we have for a subwoofer upgrade. The B-10AS and B-8PTD are actually quite close in terms of performance. We may want to look at a different solution for a noticeable upgrade.

Q
Am I able to purchase a seperate wiring harness? Please advise. Thank you
mark  Aug 20, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Mark, and thank you for your question. If the harness is the 8 pin power/input harness we do not sell those separately. The Sound Ordnance brand is a Crutchfield exclusive product line. We may be able to either order it, or get a replacement from another box. Please call tech support for assistance with this.

Q
Can you install this behind 2nd row of seats in a crew cab with the speaker facing to the back of the cab? If so, what's the sound impact? Seems like only way it will fit.
matthew  Feb 08, 2022
1 answer
A
I had to modify my install. I installed this behind the back seat in a ford fusion with the speaker facing the seat. Sound was bad. I had to turn it around so the sub faced the open part of the trunk to really get the bass working. It's great now. I do not see how this will work behind a seat pointed at the exterior. I would think the sound would be limited. Very limited because of the lack of air available. I hope this helps and Best of Luck.

Q
Can this unit be added to factory radio without preouts? ( Non_ Bose)
davek  Apr 10, 2021

A
Yes. I tapped off of the rear speaker in a Focus RS to send the audio signal to the Sub.
christopher  Apr 10, 2021
A
Yes. It taps into your speaker wires. The instructions are pretty good. It's 100 watts and doesn't demand lots of power. Fit it behind my back seat in a 2015 F150 crew cab, When set correctly it hits really good. No low pass filter or anything needed. Makes a huge difference in all types of music. Very happy with it.
abraham  Apr 10, 2021
A
Yes, I added it to my OEM system with wiretaps into the factory rear speakers.
mark  Apr 10, 2021
A
Yes. Just have to use high pass and tie into rear speakers
robbie  Apr 10, 2021
Q
The the control/input panel is on the back/bottom . Won't this make it difficult to mount under the seat? It will bend the wires and put stress on the connections. Poor design. Can I return?

Q
Can you run two of these in parallel? Will these wire into a factory 2015 Chevy Silverado headunit?
ryan clay  Jul 21, 2019
1 answer
A
I'm not sure about running them parallel but I can't see a reason you couldn't. It should be no problem to wire into the factory head unit. I just wired one into a Ford Mustang factory system. The Chevy system shouldn't be any different.
