Prestige Series on-ear headphones
Our take on the Grado SR80e by Crutchfield's David Brown
Grado sound for a song
Want warm, balanced, natural sound that can transport you straight to the heart of your music — without breaking the bank? Look no further. Grado's Prestige Series SR80e headphones are an affordable introduction to what high-end audio is all about. These headphones feature updates to Grado's previous SR80i headphones, including an improved driver design, better acoustic damping, and a new cable. You'll experience powerful dynamics, and the kind of focus and sonic detail you'd expect from much more expensive 'phones. They can be easily driven with a portable music player or laptop, and include a 1/4" adapter plug so you can enjoy 'em on your home system, too.
Born in Brooklyn and built to perform
Each pair of SR80e headphones is still made right in Brooklyn, New York where the Grado family has been building award-winning audio gear for more than 60 years. Like all Grado headphones, the SR80e uses a vented "open-air" earcup design with large, non-resonant air chambers for powerful, extended bass response and a more open, spacious sound. The diaphragms in each SR80e driver have been put through a special "de-stressing" process that allows them to deliver more music detail for an even larger soundstage. The drivers are also carefully matched to within 0.1 dB for enhanced stereo imaging. Plus, Grado gave these 'phones a stout four-conductor connecting cable for enhanced signal flow and bass control.
The standout point for me was the wearability — these headphones felt really comfortable for extended listening at work, and there was a minimum of ear fatigue at medium volume levels... if you want a day-in, day-out working headphone companion that faithfully reproduces your song collection... you should put a set of Grado SR80i headphones into the mix.

3 questions already asked
You are correct. The Grado phones are for stereo music and are excellent for that. Not sure what is suitable for TV. Maybe something from Beats? [ GREGORY Jan 30, 2018 ]
The Grado SR80e are excellent open headphones. In that budget I also have the Sennheiser HD518, who don't have such good sound definition, but may be are more comfortable to wear. [ German Velez Nov 24, 2014 ]
Absolutely, no regrets very comfortable and great sound from rock to classical music . Enjoy ! [ Ralph Nov 24, 2014 ]
For on-ear, open backed headphones, it was the best $100 I've spent. Although I'm somewhat biased, these were the first good quality headphones I ever purchased ;) I'd recommend them as a good first pair of headphones for someone who hasn't experienced the world of high quality audio before, as long as you don't mind the small amount of bi-directional sound leakage that occurs with open backed headphones. [ marianne Nov 22, 2014 ]
A good headset for the money. I have not physically compared the SR80e with others in its price range, but the sound is as good as my pricier Sennheiser eH350. Only downside is the supplied cable is a little stiff and requires an optional extension to comfortably move about. [ Tony Nov 22, 2014 ]
Maybe not the best ever, but definitely a solid option at this price point. [ BRENNEN K Nov 22, 2014 ]
I don't know about that, having only sampled a few. But it's the best of the one's I've tried. Great sound, and it's comfortable. [ Patrick Nov 22, 2014 ]
It'd be hard to beat them for 100, but you may prefer the 325s for a couple hundred more. [ Brian Nov 22, 2014 ]
copy pasted from details page. Cord Length83" [ MajorStewie Nov 21, 2014 ]
155 cm (~61 in.) from the plug to the point where the cord splits into two. Each of the two cords then extends 30 cm (~12 in.) from the split to the bottom of each ear piece. So total length 185 cm (73 in. ~ 6 ft.) [ marianne Sep 06, 2014 ]
About 70 inches to the bifurcation of the cord to each headphone. [ David Sep 01, 2014 ]
6 or 7 feet depending on if you measure to the junction or to the ear. [ Richard Aug 28, 2014 ]
Thomas, the SR80E comes with a 6 foot cord. [ Barry Aug 27, 2014 ]
The cable length is 7 feet. [ Cornel Aug 26, 2014 ]
Just over 6 feet from the base of the headphones. [ BRENNEN K Aug 25, 2014 ]
It's about 82" from the earphone itself. The two wires meet at ~11". [ Guest Aug 25, 2014 ]
The cord is aprox. 2 mts long. [ German Velez Aug 25, 2014 ]
The cord is 6 feet. Plenty long enough! [ Steven Aug 25, 2014 ]
It's right at 70" to the yoke, and from there, an additional foot to each ear cup. [ Brian Aug 25, 2014 ]
