Polk Audio RTi A1
Bookshelf speakers (Cherry)
Our take on the Polk Audio RTi A1 by Crutchfield's Loren Barstow
Potent bookshelf speakers
Treat yourself to detailed, accurate sound with Polk's compact RTi A1 bookshelf speakers. They feature Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers for smooth accurate response. Plus the woofers and tweeters undergo careful laser testing to help identify and eliminate unwanted resonances that can hinder a speaker's performance.
Thoughtful cabinet design
The RTi A1's newly designed asymmetric cabinets help them deliver rich, clear sound by combating vibration and increasing rigidity. You'll enjoy remarkably clean mids and highs for a well-defined soundstage, along with tight bass. Plus, the cabinet's curved edges give the speaker a polished look, enhanced by a real wood veneer finish.
Great for home theater or stereo music setups
The RTi A1s do a great job with stereo music on their own, or you can team them with a powered subwoofer for even better bass. Or use two pairs as your home theater's front and surround speakers for dynamic, detailed movie sound. For larger rooms, the RTi A1s work perfectly as surrounds in combination with RTi tower front speakers.

Great small speakers. They're not booming, which I wouldn't expect for the size and price, but the audio is very clean. I use it with a mid range turntable and extremely happy.

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.
Polymer Composite Woofers: Each speaker features a 5-1/4" polymer composite woofer for smooth wide-range response with low distortion. For high performance durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.
Silk/Polymer Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. Each tweeter features mylar bypass capacitors in the crossovers to extend high frequency response and improve detail and transparency. Each tweeter features low viscosity ferro-fluid cooling with a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.
Frequency Response: The overall frequency response is 50Hz-27kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 60-26kHz.
Damped Asymmetric Hex Laminate (DAHLI) Cabinet Design: All-MDF construction with massive asymmetric cabinet bracing ensures a resonance-free enclosure for accurate sound. The asymmetric design is made from a 6-layer laminate with 5 viscous layers to create the optimal shear damping (OSD) system. The elegant styling aside, curved cabinets not only result in a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but the curved walls also produce less audible coloration from panel resonances.
Power Port Venting System: Each speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports.
Acoustic Resonance Control (ARC): Internal cabinet resonance can impart a "thick" character to voices. Polk's patented Acoustic Resonance Control port system overcomes this problem. In addition to the Power Port venting system, each speaker has a front-firing port that is tuned to suppress the internal cabinet resonance, resulting in smooth, natural midrange reproduction.
Anti-Diffraction Grilles: The floating anti-diffraction grilles minimize grille diffraction for spacious, 3-dimensional imaging.
Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: Each speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.
Wall Mounting: The Power Port back plate on each speaker has a keyhole slot, allowing the speaker to be mounted on the wall using the supplied 2-1/2" wood screws.
Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

Why did you buy this?
awesome!!!! especially for the price!!! [ Robbie Sep 25, 2018 ]
Although I am not 100% sure how I feel about the grey accents, these are a gift and I have a feeling my nephew will think they add to their coolness factor. My first real speakers were Polk and I have respect for the brand. The price fit where I wanted. The option to bi-amp is nice, although I know there are conflicting schools of thought about the efficacy of it. Dimensions-wise I think they will be a perfect fit, and they should last for many years. [ JUSTIN Jul 14, 2018 ]

I have a number of products from Polk. The sound quality is very nice. Crisp clear vocals is the norm. The subs I've used bring a warm low end that immerses me in quality sound. [ Alton May 03, 2018 ]

Good reviews and attractive [ Peter Aug 25, 2018 ]
l have been looking for an affordable bookshelf replacement for my older tower speakers that just aren't what they used to be. After some research decided to try these Polk Audio bookshelf speakers. Polk's reputation for quality, the attractive design, specs, bi-amp option, keyhole slot for hanging won me over. [ Rodney Aug 12, 2018 ]
Excellent price, good experience with Polk Audio in the past, good experience with Crutchfield each time. [ James F. Apr 29, 2018 ]
I would've liked to listen to these before buying, but that's hard to do these days. One store with a good listening setup had Polk S15s that sounded acceptable, but of course these may be very different sounding. I was able to quickly rule out Klipsch, so that helped a little. I've always liked the sound of Polk speakers in general, and I have a pair in my car for 5 years which are great. The Cherry also look the nicest in the price range, which my wife likes a lot. [ THOMAS Mar 14, 2018 ]
I chose these speakers for Polk Audio's reputation for performance, quality, design, and a high level of excellence; they look great too. My experience with Crutchfield has always exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend doing business here. [ Lynn Mar 13, 2018 ]
Reviews, experience with Polk Audio, sale price, and lastly appearance. [ Devan Mar 11, 2018 ]
great price, good product. Because it will suffice for my needs, and it was almost 50% off - that was primary factor. Even at the 199 discount I was going to pass. I am in that small demographic that loves a bargain that is only cosmetically flawed. Keep selling us the scratch n dent suff! [ steven Mar 10, 2018 ]
Matched to my existing speakers...using as rear surround speakers [ Jeff Mar 04, 2018 ]
I chose these speakers to compliment the RTiA9's that I bought. [ Albert Feb 13, 2018 ]
I needed a high efficiency speaker with great performance to use with a vintage Marantz 2230 Stereo Receiver. I currently run a Marantz NR 1605 through a set of Polk TSi 100 and PSW 110, so based on the performance of my current speakers, I figured I can't go wrong with another set of Polk Audio speakers. Based on the specs of the RTiA1 I believe they will compliment my Marantz 2230. The design and Cherry finish has always been a favorite, seen the discounted price and I was happy! [ fred Feb 12, 2018 ]
Experience and size. I own larger Polk speakers on another 5.1 system. [ Augustus Feb 10, 2018 ]
I needed small-sized speakers with good sound (for a small room) for the receiver I just purchased. The specs appear to indicate that this will be just right. [ Franz Dec 09, 2017 ]

3 questions already asked
If the subwoofer has a line input (RCA or Mini) then you should be able to connect it to the receiver. Either directly using the subwoofer level output and line-in or with an adapter from the RCA level output of the receiver to the mini jack in on the subwoofer (again depending on the input). If the subwoofer does not have a line input then it will not work with the receiver. [ Jeff Mar 19, 2015 ] Staff
I feel it's very much an awesome value. I power these speakers (wall mounted) w onkyo tx-8050. My space is a 900 square foot bottle shop. We run internet radio and play vinyl daily. RTi A1 's sound awesome bass without a sub. For our purposes, perfect. Sometimes we have upwards of 40 ppl in that small space and they still deliver. hope this helps. PC [ PHILLIP Sep 09, 2014 ]
Is RMS or "root mean (average) square value. The rule is that Max or Peak values are are clearly stated in any equipment specs. There is One Peak value not a range of Peak Values. The RTi's are very efficient speakers so they can work well with a low power amp as low a 20 watt in the connected channel. They can work in a high power channel up to 125 watts as well. 125 is the maximum RMS watts recommended for the speakers. It seems these speakers were well tested at different power supplies for a certain time period. I am using then with a Denon AV-E400 185 Max output watts/channel (90 watts RMS/Channel). Sounds great. If 20 t0 125 were peak values, (there can only be ONE peak value) they could'nt hold 90 watts RMS. Hope this can help. [ ANIBAL Sep 05, 2014 ]
I have connected it to my Denon AV Receiver [ brian Dec 11, 2017 ]
I love these speakers. I use them in a music room that is 25x25. I added a powered sub for more off a low end punch. They are well built quality multi tome speakers. Crisp, clean. [ john Dec 11, 2017 ]
