Ready, aim, music!

The CDT-5800-C II's tweeter provides wide dispersion for consistent sound, and it swivels, so you can aim the sound precisely where you need it to go. You can even rotate the 8" woofer a full 360 degrees and tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. This flexibility gives you full, detailed sound no matter where you place the speaker. Plus, tweeter and mid-bass level switches let you adjust the sound to suit your personal taste and your room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn." This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Keeping a low profile

The CDT-5800-C II stays inconspicuous with its Slimtrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the CDT-5800-C II in new construction.

    Mounting Options

Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT): The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II in-ceiling speaker features a patent-pending gimbal mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT). The tweeter and woofer are independently adjustable, allowing both the high and low frequencies to be directed toward the listening area.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 95dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

Drivers: The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II uses a high-quality 1" titanium dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with an 8" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

    • Tweeter: There is a 1" titanium dome compression tweeter mated to a swiveling 100° Tractrix Horn. The swiveling horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The pivoting tweeter can be angled up to approximately 20° in any direction (relative to the woofer).
    • Woofer: The 8" copper-colored, machine-spun Cerametallic woofer can rotate a full 360°, and then shift 15° in any direction. The solid Aluminum diaphragm, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, has a new hi-tech look that also delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of gold-plated, spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, as well as pin connectors and single banana plugs.

Tweeter/Mid-bass Attenuation Switches: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The CDT-5800-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

    Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.8125". For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-C installation kit (714IK800C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

They sell a hanger kit which fit between the joists. No need to re-enforce at all. I did however double up on the speaker wire and soldered ends. system works great. Also put in wall speakers at same time. really nice system albeit expensive but great if you can do the work yourself [ TAM  Dec 04, 2017 ]
No. The tabs that hold it in place allow for varying thicknesses and the instructions mention using 3/4" MDF/plywood if using it in a dropped ceiling. [ Curt  Dec 04, 2017 ]
Yes. I did the same with a pair. No issue. Klipsch has a custom mounting box that I used with a second pair that I liked even more. [ Quintin  Dec 03, 2017 ]
They are not recommended for use in "all weather" outdoor installations. [ Ryan  Mar 23, 2017 ]  Staff
Sorry can't help. Put them in ceiling in house in California where temperature doesn't fluctuate much. [ THOMAS C  Mar 16, 2017 ]
Yes. I used them with 4 ceiling speakers and it was a completely secure match/fit with no issues. [ Quintin  Jan 16, 2017 ]
Yes. Did it in my new house. Easy installation. [ Douglas  Jan 16, 2017 ]
Yes it will work. We used it with the CDT 2800 and the CDT 5800 shows the same speaker depth. [ ERIC  Jan 16, 2017 ]
I wondered the same thing, and just painted the ceiling swiss coffee to match the speaker instead [ Richard  Aug 09, 2016 ]
The woofer and tweeter can be aimed towards the listeners [ LENARD  Jul 03, 2016 ]
The entire speaker rotates and the tweeter swivels in any direction. [ Douglas  Jun 28, 2016 ]
Just the tweeter. I am no expert, but I believe that is all you need given the sounds waves travel differently depending on the frequency. That is why you can place a sub woofer anywhere in the room. These speakers sound and look great - practically invisible. [ Richard  Jun 28, 2016 ]
Both the speaker and the tweeter are movable, but only a small amount. [ BEN  Jun 28, 2016 ]
Both the cone and the tweeter are amiable, independently of each other. [ James  Jun 28, 2016 ]
The woofer and tweeter can both be aimed. [ mark  Jun 28, 2016 ]
The woofer and tweeter both swivel independently. [ JON  Jun 28, 2016 ]
Just built 2 home theater systems that include Klipsh CD-5000CII, r-5650-SII, and 5650--WII. Also included subwoofers PSB CWS8, plus Polk Audtio 80F/X, 255c-RT, atrium outdoors, and finally to get Altos sound, I got ONkyo SK-H410. Everything is works and sounds great. All the speakers came from Crutchfield. I called before I ordered and discuss every speaker in detail with representative. Klipsh speakers are beautifully made. I also order two Denon Command HT receiver/amplifier. Tom [ THOMAS C  Nov 17, 2015 ]
Absolutely. A surround sound system with those Klipsch speakers would provide very good sound quality. [ Larry  Nov 20, 2015 ]  Staff
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Feb 25, 2015 ]  Staff
    I'm sorry, correction 50rms** [ Corey  Feb 25, 2015 ]
I understand front ceiling speakers should be above the front tower speakers. Rear ceiling speaker is just behind seating area. Rear surrounds about even with seating. This makes my configuration a 5.4.2. That's 2 subs [ Earl  Jun 24, 2017 ]
Emanuel, I was always taught that 10' is a good seperation between speakers. I used these speakers for my mid speakers between my front and rear speakers. I pointed the tweeters at my seating location, they work great. If you can't seperate the speakers that far try to place them just outside the seating area. I hope this helped. [ JEFFREY  Nov 04, 2014 ]
