Manage your game

A duffer hits the ball. A scratch player manages the course. To play your best, you should take into account yardage, obstacles, pin position, and the lay of the land before you address the ball. Garmin's Approach Z80 laser golf rangefinder helps you do all of that. It'll give you a wealth of information to help you make better decisions on the course.

Accurate ranging

The Approach Z80's laser rangefinder is the most accurate available, but the Z80 does a lot more. When you look in the display, you'll see a full-color view plus a 2-D view of the hole you're playing, complete with distances to the front and back of the green. Activate the rangefinder and you'll get an accuracy of within 10" to the pin. Now it's up to you to hit it stiff.

Easy to use

The Approach Z80 boasts image stabilization and a flag finder feature that makes it easy to find the range to the flag. The view shows the hole at up to 6X magnification in crisp detail.

Advanced help

The PlaysLike Distance feature takes the guesswork out of uphill and downhill shots, by providing adjusted yardages that take elevation changes into account. You'll never be stuck guessing which club to hit. When you're teeing off, the Laser Range Arc feature draws an arc on the course map that lets you know which hazards are in play. And don't worry about blind shots — the PinPointer feature shows you the direction of the green, no matter where you are.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Garmin Approach Z80 is a golf laser rangefinder with a built-in GPS and maps of your favorite golf courses. The hand-held rangefinder can help your golf game by providing accurate distance measurements up to 350 yards at the press of a button. Full color CourseView mapping is overlaid on the OLED viewfinder to give you accurate distances to the pin and hazards. The Approach Z80 comes with a carrying case and carabiner for attaching it to your bag or cart.

Design: The lightweight rangefinder weighs only 8 ounces, and is designed to fit comfortably in one hand. Three top-mounted control buttons let you power the unit on/off, open and scroll through the menu, select menu options, and range with the laser. The weather-resistant device has a water rating of IPX7, meaning it can withstand incidental exposure to water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. The USB charging port has a waterproof cover to prevent damage.

Golf Course Maps: The Approach Z80 features more than 41,000 preloaded maps of golf courses worldwide, including over 17,000 in the United States. These two-dimensional maps appear along the left edge of the viewfinder, and provide distances to the front, center, and back of the green, distances to hazards and layups, and par information for each hole. The unit uses signals from GPS satellites to calculate your location, and your position on the golf course as you play.

Optics: The rangefinder has a single rotating eyepiece with an adjustable diopter (+/-4) to focus the display for your eyesight. Images through the rangefinder are magnified 6 times to give you clear, crisp views. Image stabilization reduces shakiness, making it easier to find and range specific targets.

Laser Rangefinder: The laser rangefinder measures distances from 5.5 to 350 yards (5-320 meters), with an accuracy of +/- 10". External factors may affect ranging accuracy, including ambient light, weather conditions, target reflectivity, and target size.

Hole View: The Hole View shows the current hole you are playing. When you aim the rangefinder down the fairway, the 2D CourseView of the hole appears on the left edge of the viewfinder, showing distances to the front and back of the green, as well as accurate distances to hazards.

PlaysLike Distances: The Approach Z80 has a "plays like" feature that accounts for uphill or downhill shots to give you adjusted distances to hazards or the green. Arrows will appear next to the displayed distance to indicate the shot will play longer or shorter than expected due to a change in elevation.

PinPointer: When you are unable to see the green, the PinPointer feature displays an arrow that points to the green location to help you line up your shot. This is especially helpful if you are in the woods, playing a blind shot, or in a deep sand trap.

Driver Distance: During setup, you are asked for the average distance the ball travels on your drive. The Driver Distance appears as an arc on the hole view screen when you are standing on the tee box.

Laser Range Arc: The Laser Range Arc feature draws an arc on the CourseView map at the distance the laser ranged to see what's in play at that distance.

Flag Finder: The Flag Finder feature targets and locks onto the flag to measure the distance from your current position to the pin. This provides greater accuracy than targeting the pin.

Green View: When the laser is locked onto the flag, the Green View automatically displays the distance to the front and back of the green, as well as the shape of the green.

Tournament Mode: If playing in a sanctioned golf tournament, the Tournament Mode disables the PinPointer and PlaysLike distance features, which are not allowed.

Battery Information: The Approach Z80 is powered by a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. A fully charged battery lasts up to 15 hours with typical use. You can charge the battery via USB using an AC adapter or the USB port on your computer. The device has a selectable low power mode which turns off the display while charging the battery.
