The forest and the trees

Nikon packaged these two lenses together for a kit that lets you capture everything from sprawling vistas to detailed close-ups of the tiniest subjects. This kit also includes two free Nikon School Online courses: Exploring Dynamic Landscape Photography, and Discovering Macro Photography.

The 10-20mm ultra-wide-angle zoom lens gives you a huge field of view and versatile shooting options. Use this lens to capture sweeping, panoramic landscapes or architecture shots. It's also great for interior scenes and group photos.

The 40mm prime lens lets you get within seven inches of your subject for sharp close-ups. Its compact size and 60mm equivalent focal length make it perfect for portraits and everyday photography, too.

Overview: The Nikon Landscape & Macro 2 Lens kit includes two must-have wide-angle and macro lenses:

  • The AF-P DX Nikkor 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with Vibration Reduction technology. It is ideal for capturing wide landscapes and cityscapes, architecture, interiors, or large group photos, and works well for videos as well as still images. The lens is part of Nikon's new "P" series of lenses, and uses a pulse motor for fast autofocus.
  • The Nikon AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G lens is a fixed focal length lens with a natural wide angle view, and a f/2.8 aperture. It is ideal for general close-ups, delicate flowers, detailed collectibles, copy photography, portraits, and landscapes.

Both lenses come with front and rear lens caps, a lens hood, and soft lens case. The lenses are optimized for use on Nikon DX-format cameras with APS-C-sized image sensors. They will work on some FX-format (full frame) cameras in the DX-crop mode, and with limited functionality.

Nikon Technologies: The lenses are equipped with the following Nikon technologies:

  • Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR:
    • Pulse Motor (P): Nikon's new "P" series of lenses use a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) for smoother and quieter focusing, compared to previous drive systems. This type of drive system is very quiet, making it ideal for shooting video.
    • A-M: The lens features an Auto-Manual mode, which allows smooth focusing operation in Manual Focus mode. The focus ring has a similar amount of torque compared to conventional manual-focus lenses.
    • IF Lens: Internal Focusing lenses contain internal lens elements that shift during focusing. Because IF lenses do not change size during Auto Focusing, you can obtain closer focusing distances.
    • Vibration Reduction (VR): Nikon's Vibration Reduction helps reduce blur caused by camera shake, and allows shutter speeds up to 4.0 stops slower than without VR. Vibration Reduction applies lens shift correction using voice coil motors (VCMs).
    • Aspherical Lens Elements (AS): The lens contains Aspherical lens elements which contain non-spherical surfaces on either or both sides to eliminate certain types of lens aberration.
  • Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G:
    • Silent Wave Motor (SWM): The exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables fast, accurate, and quiet auto focus.
    • Focus Limit Switch: In addition to the Focus Mode Switch, the lens has a 2-way Focus Limit Switch, which determines the focus distance limits for autofocus. You can select "Full" for subjects that may be closer than 0.7' (8.4"), or Infinity-0.2m if the subject will always be at the distance of at least 0.7'.
  • Both Lenses:
    • Super Integrated Coating (SIC): The lenses feature a multi-layered coating of the optical elements to enhance light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced lens flare.
    • Focus Mode Switch: The Focus Mode switch on the barrel of both lenses let you easily switch between manual focus and auto focus. If you want to enable auto focusing, the camera must be set to Auto Focus, and the switch on the lens needs to be set to "M/A". With most Nikon D-SLRs, the lens gives you a manual override option, allowing you to rotate the separate focus ring while pressing the shutter release halfway.
