Product Research

Features

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum and magnesium dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Note: When flush mounted, the tweeters are pressure fit into the opening, with nothing holding them from behind, so the cutout diameter is very important.

Mounting Options: The tweeters include flush mount and angled surface mount housings:

  Flush Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.312" 2.105"
Mounting Depth 0.658" 0.875" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.957" N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.74" N/A
Width N/A 1.968"
Surface Depth N/A 3.114"

Crossovers: The included 19" tweeter wires have integrated crossovers. The tweeter ends of the wires have quick-slide terminals that easily connect to the wires soldered to the tweeters.

Q
Already owned for over a year, but continue to "pop" at high volume. Tuned and installed with bass blockers, is 15watt RMS too little for a two-way 60watt Amp? Bass known on Amp is off, set to hpf, and even had the "Pros" tune my entire new system. Why do they still "pop" at high volume?
anthony  Sep 10, 2023
1 answer
A
If you are running a 60-watt RMS amplifier to these Focal TWU 1.5 tweeters that is well over the 15-watt RMS range, Anthony. I would advise never overpowering any speaker or tweeter past the advised RMS range, this is most likely where your popping is coming from. They are popping it sounds like as even with the high-pass crossover set and the bass blocker in place they are still being overpowered. The Focal TWU 1.5's come with in-line crossovers that are designed to provide the best sound performance, and even our 5000Hz high-pass bass blocker in the link below is only capable of handling 50-watts RMS. I would certainly roll back a little bit on the gain on your amp channels to try and protect the tweeters a little, that popping means that they are being severely overpowered! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007BB5000/Crutchfield-Bass-Blockers.html

Q
Can you advise what needs to be done to install these in the "tombstone" tweeter enclosures on a '13 Jeep JK? It seems like they might be too large since the stock tweets are 1" and these are 1.5". Thank you.
doug  Jan 20, 2023

A
Your tweeters are located in pods on the top of the dash, Doug. We show the Focal TWU 1.5 Universal Integration 1.5" tweeter a fit with potential modifications needed. Pry the stock tweeter out of the pod. Provided the depth and cutout are sufficient, flush mount the aftermarket tweeters using the aftermarket hardware. If this is not possible, remove the tweeter from the grille, fabricate a mounting bracket, and re-use the factory grille. The backstraps in the link below can also help, make sure you grab a pair with your tweeter order! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120BKSTRAP/Universal-Back-Strap.html

Q
I'm looking to purchase these to replace the tweeters that are in my current component system, I see it says these have an inline crossover. How would that work when connecting them to the external crossover?
jeremiah d.  Dec 16, 2022
1 answer
A
That is an excellent question! There actually are a couple options whether you use the inline crossover and bypass an external crossover or cut off inline one. If you give us a call at 800.324.9695 to speak with one of our advisors, we can take a look at your set up to see which route would be the best for you.

Q
I plan to use these as super tweeters in my already 4-way system. What would be the recommended crossover frequency? Why does it have such low RMS power handling, would it be able to handling more power if crossed over at 7k or 10k?
gary  Dec 07, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Gary, and thank you for your questions. We have to go by the manufactures specifications. The TWU 1.5 tweeters are rated for 15 watts RMS. The frequency range is 4k to 21K. cross them over anywhere in that range and they will be fine.

Q
can i use these to replace tweeters for focal 165AS component speakers?
david michael  Oct 13, 2022
1 answer
A
Technically this would be possible, though it wouldn't be recommended as they are not the same tweeter as those included in the 165AS set and wouldn't sound quite the same. It may be necessary to contact Focal directly for help with replacing your tweeters with original model for that component set.

Q
I have a 2022 Nissan Frontier. I would like to install these as an upgrade in my factory non-fender audio system. Will these 4 ohm tweeters cause any sound or operational issues with my 2 ohm factory system? Does the factory head unit have enough power to drive this correctly? Will they seamlessly drop into the factory dash location or will I have to modify the in-dash speaker mount?
thomas  Sep 18, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Tom_B, and thank you for your question. Tweeters are almost never a direct fitting replacement. They are going to need an adapter plate, either fabricated, or we have those and in most cases include them with the tweeters. You would need a hole saw to make the cut out then drop the new tweeter in the hole. Part number for the adapter is 120827403. The factory tweeter in the non Fender system is actually 4 ohm. The factory radio will run an aftermarket tweeter as tweeters really do not need a ton of power. Its recommended to add an amplifier if you are swapping out all the speakers.

Q
What's the separate set of 19â?? wire included in the box for? The wires, according to the what's in the box list on this page says they are, "Two 19" Lengths of speaker wire with in-line crossovers." I'm replacing the stock tweeters in my 2019 GTI - do I need the extra work?
m  Jun 15, 2022
1 answer
A
Those wires included have the inline crossovers connected, so they are essential on install M U. The extra wire length is always super helpful on install as well giving you some extra wingspan for work, Focal "gets" it! These Focal TWU 1.5 tweeters will be a nice upgrade from factory, and what I remember from working on my MkIII Gti was that you certainly want to do it right the first time even if it is a little extra work! Totally worth it!

Q
Are these the same tweeters that come as satellites with the ISU-690s?
baggss  Mar 21, 2022

A
Yes they sure are
blaine  Mar 22, 2022
A
By the specs they would appear to be. I'm sure they are a perfect replacement for them. They are great tweeters. They sound fantastic ( with proper placement ) and handle whatever you need them to. The crossover from the Isu 690 set should work fine and if not make sure they are high passed at 3500hz or more. I high pass them at 3400hz and they are full and detailed. Good luck
mike  Mar 22, 2022
A
Exactly the same.

Q
what's the free air resonance in these tweeters?
alex  Jul 07, 2020
1 answer
A
From my understanding of free air resonance is you dont need to enclose these speakers to obtain optimum sound and performance. Where as your typical speaker requires an enclosure to try and get the fullness.of what that typical speaker has to offer. This is my opinion from personal experience.

Not sure what you mean. They sound good very dynamic with a forward presentation. Give them a little bit of power and you won't be disappointed.

Q
Are there matching woofers? The component sets from focal on this site don't seem to include horn tweeters
henry  Feb 16, 2020
2 answers
A
No woofers. These are tweeters only. Very happy with my purchase of these though. Plenty of clarity, nice low profile crossover and come with a couple different mounting options.
jered  Feb 17, 2020
A
The tweeters were the only size I could make fit in a sony woofer tweeter speaker system. I drilled out the old ones and glued these in. Not ideal but the car is a 1987 911 Targa and sound quality isn't that important since I can't hear much anyway. Seems to be working though.
john  Feb 17, 2020
Q
I'll be wiring these in parallel with a full-range coaxial. does the inline crossover filter out highs from the coaxial? or would I end up with highs coming from both the coaxial and the tweeter?
steven  Aug 30, 2018
2 answers
A
nice! sorry for all the reply questions. do you have them wired in parallel with your door speakers? is the built-in crossover part of the wire or is it inside the tweeter? did your hummer already have tweeters that you replaced with these or did you add them? are your door speakers stock or after market? Thanks!
steven  Aug 31, 2018
A
I have had one too many train whistles blown in my ears, so I am not a sound expert in any sort of way. These speakers don't seem to cancel out the tweeters in my door speakers and sound much better than the stock speakers that came standard in my Hummer.
thomas  Aug 31, 2018
