Product Research

Features

8-Port Desktop Gigabit PoE Switch: The Linksys 8-port Smart PoE+ Switch, LGS308P offers a quick and easy solution to extend an office network.  It is designed for customers, who need a low cost switch with basic management but high level feature list including a web-based setup page that provides easy configuration and management, Gigabit speed ports providing high bandwidth capabilities, and PoE+ support for networking devices to be located anywhere without the need for alternating current (AC) outlets. You can connect the following devices to the LGS308P switch -

  • Routers
  • Computers
  • Network Printers
  • IP phones
  • IP cameras
  • Other network devices

Standard Compliance: The Linksys LGS308P switch is compliant with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3ab, 802.3az, 802.3af, and 802.3at (PoE+).

Intelligent Filtering: The switch acts as a repeater which regenerates data signals as they pass through it.  This feature acts as a safeguard to deter data loss and ensure that transmissions arrive securely at their destinations.  Moreover, a switch is capable of intelligent filtering of data based on source and destination as compared to the repeater which can only regenerate the signal without checking its recipients.

QoS (Quality of Service) Traffic Prioritization: QoS (Quality of Service) prioritizes traffic to particular devices or activities & maintain mission-critical data throughput regardless of network congestion.

Auto-Sensing Gigabit Ports: It has built-in full-duplex 10/100/1000 switch to connect your wired Ethernet devices together at up to Gigabit speeds. Gigabit performance minimizes transfer times and streams high-bandwidth files to connected devices without interference. The Auto-Sensing ports automatically optimize speed for each connected device.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE): Integrated Power Over Ethernet (PoE) makes installation simple and inexpensive by eliminating the need for additional power cables and nearby power outlets. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology that enables an Ethernet network cable to deliver both data and power. You can plug a PoE device into the switch's 1-8 ports. The switch only supports IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at. Any PoE devices not supporting these standards will not be powered ON by the switch.

PoE Prioritization:  The Linksys LGS308P has 72W dedicated PoE power budget for the entire switch. The switch has a feature called PoE prioritization where power is provided based on port priority for PoE devices connected to the PoE ports. This is only applicable for those ports (1-4) that have a PoE device connected to it. This follows the criteria below -

  • Port ID1 has higher priority
  • The higher the Port ID, the lower the priority
  • Rebooting the switch reprioritizes PoE per port
Note: For example is if all three PoE devices have maxed out the power budget on the switch. When a fourth PoE device connects, since it exceeds the power budget, the connection is declined and Port 4 will not provide power to a PoE device. However unplugging Port 1 will then provide power to Port 4 for the PoE device connected to it. If the PoE device is reconnected back to Port 1, Port 1 remains OFF.  In order to restore power to Port 1 for the PoE device either unplug PoE device from Port 4 or reboot the switch.  Rebooting the switch prioritizes PoE for each port all over again.

Network Expansion: Build a mesh of switches easily with features like Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Storm Control. They help control planned or inadvertent cable loops so you can expand your network with confidence.

Advanced Network Security: Ensure data passes to authorized clients only with Port authentication and MAC-based port security. Advanced DHCP snooping and IP-MAC binding functions assure network integrity and help prevent attacks.

Power Requirements: The Linksys LGS308P comes with an external AC power supply (100-240V ~ 50/60Hz) and detachable 58" AC power cord that will need to be plugged into an AC wall outlet or surge protector.

Mounting Options: The Linksys LGS308P can be simply placed on a tabletop or desktop horizontally. It can also be wall-mounted vertically thanks to built-in keyhole slots.
