You really don't need a ton of equipment to get started listening to vinyl. The Audio-Technica AT-LP3 comes with a built-in phono preamp with pre-attached cables, so you have options. Plug directly into a pair of powered stereo speakers, or go through a receiver or outboard preamp — whichever is most convenient for you.
Handy control options
You can push the Start button to begin playing a record, and then hit the Stop button to lift and return the tonearm and shut off the turntable. A tonearm Lift button is also included to let you raise and lower the arm without stopping the platter.
And as someone who has listened to the stylus bumping around in the final groove of a record for several minutes while finishing a tricky task, I'm personally fond of the auto stop feature: it lifts and returns the tonearm automatically when a record has played all the way through. What a relief!

Fully Automatic Turntable: The Audio-Technica AT-LP3 belt-drive turntable offers fully automatic operation, so you can simply press the Start button to begin play and the Stop button to lift and return the tone arm and shut off the turntable (the stop function occurs automatically when a record has played all the way through). If you prefer manual control, a hydraulically damped lift control allows the stylus to be precisely and safely lowered and raised at any point on a record.
Balanced Tonearm w/ Dual Moving Magnet Phono Cartridge: The turntable's balanced straight tonearm comes with an uninstalled 1/2" mount universal headshell and AT91R Dual Moving Magnet phono cartridge with conical stylus, giving you excellent high-fidelity performance, plus the option to use other moving magnet or moving coil cartridges of your choosing.
2-Speed Operation: The Audio-Technica AT-LP3 fully automatic turntable is equipped to play both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records (adapter included).
Anti-Vibration Construction: The AT-LP3 is constructed of anti-vibration damping materials that limits low-frequency feedback. Resonance is further reduced by the turntable's die-cast aluminum platter and accompanying 4mm rubber damping mat.
Built-in Switchable Preamplifier: The built-in switchable stereo phono/line-level preamplifier permits use of the AT-LP3 turntable with stereo systems having either magnetic-phono inputs or line-level (Aux) inputs; also allows convenient use of the turntable with most powered speakers.
Attached Stereo RCA Cable: The AT-LP3 turntable features an attached 40" stereo RCA output cable that enables connection to a home stereo, powered speakers and other components whether they have a dedicated turntable input or not.
Detachable Power Cord: The turntable comes with a detachable 6' AC power cord (2-prong).
Hinged Dust Cover: The Audio-Technica AT-LP3 turntable comes with a hinged dust cover that is also removable.

Nice turntable for the money. If yor looking to get back into Vinyl without breaking the bank, then this is the best out there. A Little hard to initially set up but the instructions were very well done and got through it no problem No noise smooth turntable nice look great sound a real good deal.
