Our take on the Escort Direct Wire SmartCord by Crutchfield's Dominic DeVito
Planning on making a permanent home for your Escort radar detector in your car, but want to keep the 12-volt outlet free for charging your portable electronics? This handy Direct Wire SmartCord from Escort lets you hardwire your compatible detector to your vehicle's dash-based fuse box so you can keep your 12-volt port unoccupied. The straight cord runs easily along your windshield or dash to keep your car's interior tidy.
Escort's convenient SmartPlug module features a mute button for when you want to keep things quiet, plus LED indicators for alerts and power. You can mount the plug near the steering wheel for easy operation and quick viewing, even if your detector's in dark mode. The Direct Wire SmartCord works with most current Escort windshield detectors.

No u will have to add wire [ CHAD Apr 15, 2016 ]
Chad, The cord will not likely reach to the bed of your truck. BUT, consider getting the power off of a switched source. In doing so the unit will be off when you turn the truck off and when you return and turn the key on, the escort returns to the state it was in when you powered down. I think a much better way to use the unit. [ Gary Apr 15, 2016 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You do not have to have a Smart Cord to be able to mute the system. The Passport Max 2 has an Auto Mute feature so it will automatically reduce the volume after the initial audile aler. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Mar 29, 2015 ] Staff
