MartinLogan Motion 30 center channel speaker

MartinLogan's advanced Folded Motion tweeter produces clear, open highs.

Folded Motion tweeter for detailed sound

MartinLogan's innovative Folded Motion tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works like an accordion by "squeezing" air to create sound. It requires about 90% less excursion than a typical 1" dome tweeter, resulting in quicker response time and much lower distortion. The tweeter's controlled sound dispersion creates a focused soundstage with a real sense of presence. Voices, effects, and music all come through with lifelike clarity and texture, but without a trace of harshness.

Bass that keeps pace

The Motion 30 uses dual 5-1/2" aluminum cone woofers to supply fast, clean midrange and lower-mid frequencies that blend in seamlessly with the Folded Motion tweeter. A low-turbulence rear-firing port extends bass performance, but keeps it tight and tuneful.

Angled cabinet design

This center channel speaker is sized to fit inside most standard audio-video cabinets. The speaker's angled enclosure is a nice touch for versatility. No matter where you place it, you can direct the sound toward your ears. Place it beneath your TV firing up toward your listening position, or mount it high and flip the cabinet upside down to aim sound down into the room.

Very impressed with this speaker. I knew the importance of the center channel speaker, and wanted the best I could afford. Listened to several high-end brands al local stores. Concluding that this Motion 30 was the best. The voices sound crisp and true, not muffled like the others.

Features

Folded Motion Tweeter: MartinLogan's Folded Motion tweeter helps give the Motion 30 center channel loudspeaker its natural, realistic high frequency sound. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (8x that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, dynamic, and precise sound. The 1" x 1.4" Folded Motion tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lightning fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion (80°x80°) to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.

Dual Aluminum Cone Woofers w/ Rear-Firing Port: Two 5.5" aluminum cone woofers with a cast polymer basket housed in a non-resonant asymmetrical chamber flank the Motion 30 center channel speaker's Folded Motion tweeter. The aluminum cone woofers use a rigid structured dust cap and butyl rubber surround to reduce cone break-up and distortion. The two 5.5" woofers are paired with a rear-firing bass port to deliver higher output and audibly richer, deeper bass performance.

Precision Crossover: To seamlessly blend the audio output from the high frequency driver (tweeter) and the two midbass drivers (woofer), the Motion 30 loudspeaker features a precision crossover utilizing custom air core coil and low DCR steel laminate inductors, polyester film capacitors in series, and low DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel.

High-Gloss Cabinet: Complementing the Motion 30 loudspeaker's sonic accuracy is its elegant, yet understated styling. A high-gloss, piano black or black cherrywood finish, along with MartinLogan's signature perforated grille, give the Motion 30 speaker an elegant and timeless look that will blend into almost any decor. The speaker cabinet also features smooth, rounded edges.

Binding Posts: MartinLogan's proprietary tool-less binding posts simplify cable connection and management. The binding posts will accept bare wire (16- to 10-gauge), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single only).

Placement: The MartinLogan Motion 30 should be centered below or above your television on flat-surface; such as a table-top, stand, cabinet, or shelf. The center channel speaker comes with 4 rubber self-adhesive feet to help secure it in place, prevent slippage, and reduce vibration.

Break-in Period: Allow approximately 72 hours of break-in at 90 dB (moderate listening levels) before any critical listening.

Why did you buy this?

Good Stuff! [ kevin  Apr 21, 2016 ]
I needed a new center and this one fit my space and the reviews were very favorable. [ Greg  Feb 15, 2018 ]
I purchased one the motion 30 center speaker for my theater room, and it sounded so good that I had to buy a second for my living room - just to keep my ears happy. ;) Matches the Motion 40 floor standing speakers perfectly. Will see how well it matches the Motion 20's that I had to pick up for the living room as well. So a word of caution - once you hear the ML speakers you're going to want to replace all your other speakers. [ Devon  Jun 26, 2017 ]
Great reputation and it delivered! [ Richard  May 16, 2017 ]
Magazine review. [ Garnot  May 08, 2017 ]
Wanted a great match for my ML Motion 40's! [ chris  Jul 25, 2016 ]
For new living room center. [ SCOTT B  Jun 19, 2016 ]
Listen to them and they sounded great. Good reviews too... [ Keith  Dec 27, 2015 ]

1 question already asked

The wire connections nuts stick out about 1/2" in the back so it can't be pushed flush to the wall. I have mine in the same position and it sounds excellent! [ TRADD  Feb 27, 2018 ]
No it will not . Sound qualified is excellent .. [ JITENDRA R  Feb 27, 2018 ]
Too high, and against the wall, not good. possibly a stand, at ear level? [ REX M  Feb 27, 2018 ]
Probably only a tiny bit. Mine is against a wall with about 2-1/4" clearance (because of the connection terminals I use). Quite honestly, this is an amazing center channel speaker. The center channel speaker is obviously one of the more important speakers because all of the dialog comes out of it. This speaker more than meets the challenge. [ SuburbanSteve  Feb 27, 2018 ]
I have exactly this same scenario with a Motion 30 on mantle shelf just below TV. The speaker is 1.5 inches from the back wall and to me the sound is excellent. No loss in lows (albeit I use a sub too). The only thing I had to do was put taller rubber feet on the back to better tilt it down to listeners. This is one awesome center speaker (to go along with my LX 16 fronts and surrounds. [ Douglas  Feb 27, 2018 ]
Not unless it's closer than 3 inches from the wall [ Stephen  Feb 27, 2018 ]
