Import Xpression - Miami, Florida, November 30 - December 1, 2002

What's the story?
What happens when you mix an all out import car show with a rave-up DJ Battle break contest, spice it up with an open mic talent showcase for MCs, and top it all off with a model expo/bikini contest? Throw it all under the roof of the Miami Beach Convention Center, turn on the lasers and smoke machines, and call it the Import Xpression Import Showcase Grand Finale.

This was the last big car show of the year. Although it took place in Miami Beach over the Thanksgiving weekend, we sent Warren and Matt down to raise the Crutchfield tent and hopefully have a little fun at the same time. Judging by the smiles on their faces and the pictures they brought back, it looks like they had a pretty good time.

Who was in the booth?
This weekend we were fortunate to have Brian Slusarz's 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser with us at the Crutchfield booth. This "Touring Edition" cruiser sports a wealth of upgrades and mods, including a Stinger Fiberglass 1937 Hump Trunk, chrome engine jewelry, and a Ractive dual exhaust kit. Inside, two 500-watt RMS Visonik V107D4 10" subs crank off the juice of the 2-channel Visonik 1400-watt amp. Six monitors, an in-dash APEX DVD/MP3/CD player, a Sony Playstation, and a remote back-up camera with sensors round out the phat I.C.E. (in-car entertainment) system. We were looking and feeling good.

Visonik and Crutchfield joined forces to giveaway a dual 12" bandpass subwoofer with red neon lighting. We had many folks stop by to sign up, and awarded the box to a happy young man.

Show highlights
Simply put, the show car competition at this show represented some of the highest quality installations and modifications we've run across on the East Coast. Everything from gorgeous exterior paint schemes (see the sizzling Suzuki Hayabusa bike), to amazing custom leather work was on display. Some folks went a bit crazy on the engine jewelry (see the "In the Shadows" ride), while others let their imaginations run truly wild on the art side of things (see the "Size Does Matter" — kind of scary, huh?).

Some of southern Florida's car clubs made strong showings at the show. All Star, Uncivilized, The Firm, Power Toyz, and Lude Trends were all well-represented. The vendor scene was also hopping. Major sponsors like Pepsi Blue had a happening booth with tricked out cars and plenty of model firepower.

On the entertainment side of things, Import Xpressions spared no expense. Many of the industries most popular and beautiful models were on hand, including Joyce Lex, Francine Dee, Kim Duong, and Alyssah Lynh. The bikini contest was one of the most exciting we've witnessed yet.

After a great weekend full of super-clean cars and the party atmosphere of Miami's South Beach, it's safe to say that we'll look forward to showing up at the next Import Xpressions in our area. They've already got a full schedule planned for 2003 — check it out at our Event Calendar to see when a show will be in your area. You'll also be able to find out where our tent will be, so be sure to stop by and say hello.

Warren and Matt set up the goods for the giveaways; the PT Cruiser glows under the tent.

With six monitors, no one misses out on the DVD action in Brian Slusarz's PT Cruiser, least of all the show fans.

We think these twin 12"s would look nice and sound great in your ride. Stop by and sign up for a giveaway at the next show you see us at.

These were two of our favorite exterior paint jobs.

This car features a huge eyeball rising behind the New York City skyline. The rear fender reads: "Size Does Matter."
